Kwagga Smith at 8 was tried and tested and failed and was abandoned years ago. He simply cannot field restarts and give the Boks that go forward with grit, he's a high IQ rugby player, not so much a basher/bruiser. That's a terrible selection to start him at 8. Kwagga is the world's best impact sub, the game is not decided till he steps foot on the field.
Kwagga = bomb squad impact. Siya = keeps his best performances for the Boks. He hasn't let us down yet, so we should start with him Marco Van Staden = more experience than Elrigh Louw

Kwagga is the best impact player in the world why mess with that? Also I would like to see Wilco or Thomas on the bench as they both have bring a lot when it comes to the scrums and the way Wilco dominated an all Ireland front row last week. Siya still brings a lot in terms of leadership and in big tests he does do well however I have never seen him as an impact player.
I'm pretty sure it was the Racing owner that made comments. After all any Coach that makes comments like that about a player they pick, is no Coach. Loosie sub, must be either Roos or Louw, due to their versatility across the back 3.
It depends on whether a player "fits" the game plan, not necessarily the most talented player - in fact a Du Pont style main character ruins team identity and it is this mental agility which is exactly what the Boks rely on to win cups. They personify "teamwork" and Rassie has the cups to prove it.
Kwagga is better coming off the bench when there’s more space. He’s not a tank, he can’t force his way through when there’s no space. Siya is the captain, you start him until he doesn’t play well for the Boks. He’s not done that yet.
The articles about Siya are emotional from a bitter Frenchman but they could not have been better timed. Siya will have a point to prove. Rassie has hinted that he will pick based on the training sessions next week. Siya Kolisi in a Bok top and under pressure, is a different beast. Remember the 2nd test against the B&I Lions? Elrich and Cameron on the bench.
Well said and spot on. Rassie will NOT drop Siya. This one is pushing his agenda and trying his luck. My back I'll go for 6. Siya, 7. PST and 8 Evan. Kwagga is very lethal as an impact player coming from the bench
You gotta start Siya if you going to start Pollard because they both have not had a great season but they have invaluable experience. Both of them are "different players" in a bok jersey, like you said for Pollard.
Cammy is really good but dont think its best to start him against Ireland on his debut. If game goes bad or he doesnt have a good game it could knock his confidence, or on the other hand if he has a good game boost his confidence. But I would rather work him in slowly in my opinion . But anything can happen with team selections as we all know by now
@@zackcarters4941 completely fair points. I think he has it in him though. Would certainly be bold but the doc isn’t one to shy away from bold decisions.
My disagreements with your team is as follows: 6 I think Marco van Staden will start. He was Siya’s understudy at the World Cup so makes sense from a continuity perspective. 8 If Evan Roos performs decently versus Wales, I think he will start. Kwagga will come off the bench for the same reason Marx will come off the bench: IMPACT. Kwagga also covers all three back row positions. 17 Can’t Trevor also play loosie? If so, I think he might be on the bench OR the Bulls prop. I don’t think Mchunu has convinced the Bok coaches enough. If it is a 6-2 bench split I think there will be two locks purely because it’s about having a fresh tight 5 (not just covering positions) to scrum and maul the Irish to pieces. Franco Mostert can also shift to the back row if need be. Not sure who the other lock will be though or who the flank will be. I am doubtful of Siya even being on the bench. I think with Willie, Cheslin and Kurt-Lee all coming back from injury, there might be a 5-3 bench split though. Would be interesting to see who the third back might be. Otherwise, I think you are close to the team that will play. Thank you for the great, local content. 🇿🇦
