In this lesson we check out a simple way I approach Trap Style HiHat "Bursts". There are other triplet subdivisions used when you hear these bursts, but for any intermediate player I would say this is the first step... Singles & Doubles. 16ths vs 32nd notes. GET IT!

Drumeo should call you as soon as possible to make a class. You re awesome, man. Those concepts that you brings here can seem so basic to us, but you can really show us how their pratice can be deep and fundamental to our musical mind. Youre a terrific teacher, man. One of the bests. You and Austin Burcham deserve much more atention.
Agree 🍻
Haha what an epic comment man thank you so much!! I’ve actually met the Drumeo guys here in Cape Town last year! Very very cool people. And we did talk a bit. :) maybe in the future!!
They should!!
@@davie5012 I love you. I wish my talent, my beauty and my nose were magnificent as your talent, your beauty and your nose ♥️
@@LucasCosta180 he's not the real one tho..
The Intro??? Why does that sound and look familiar???🤣🤣
It’s a Christian song
Maybe yours bruh... the place you run to when you feeling ____.
I’ve heard that song in church during choir
@@Nicksperiments Lmao
Rosanna
Dude's so clean it hurts 🐐
Bro this is literally the exact thing that i was wondering how to get down. Thanks Brandon!
I second that statement
Same! Couldn't figure out the name of it haha
5:40 love that groove
me too
This is the first ever video about triplets that I could actually follow and understand
I'm not even a drummer but I mean... Fuck yeah what a good lesson!
Same bro, I'm not even into trap music TBH, more of a metal head. It's cool seeing someone do, what I thought was programmed drums, on an acoustic set.
@@ryanhass8716 yo!!! The same here even I listen to metal more compared to trap and I don't even play drums 😂.
YES now I can replicate the drum parts from the beats I make in FL studio, I've been trying to do R L R L never thought of it as R R L L so THANKS
Damn the quality is sick of this one. Love the Concept of the lesson as well
The discovering and having fun is the best part of drumming..
Absolutely.
BRANDON you just changed my life and I’ve been playing drums for like...ever. Thanks so much for this video really really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.
Dude that’s amazing. Thank you so much Miller!!! Glad I could help you out!
I’m 60 young man, rekindling my 🔥 for drums. Excellent instruction! New Sub
i never really have learned drums like traditional
when I drum I experiment until I come up with the beat to the song, and that always makes me push my boundaries
i dont even play drums i just watch stuff like this to appreciate them more in the music i listen to!
Guitar Player Here.
Just stumbled upon this video randomly.
Awesome. \m/
Groovy as hell.
Maaan you know what? I started drumming 16 years ago but only played 3 years in a row. I left it and since then I haven't had an approach to drums. I was just thinking of buying an e-drum kit and THIS VIDEO was the final divine push to do it. I AM going to explore and be curious about it. Thanks for that and awesome video.
I know you're very passionate about drums when you managed to do the "Change the kick pattern" and you make ME feel satisfaction, and I don't even play drums! Great content you got here Brandon, you got a new subscriber here
Damn I like your drum style, the way you edited the video and the and the positivity you spread!
I spent 3 hours working on this and got inspired to put 32nd note doubles basically EVERYWHERE in my playing 😂
Hard search to find what I was looking for. Thank you for this. Finally double stroke drills are going to pay off. Your the man!!! Digging your charisma.
38 year old returing drum set beginner and killing it thanks to youtube and private lessons. The groove is real!! Age is not.
Man, my favourite practice sessions feel like a journey where I can leave with an idea in mind then return with a new skill.
I have seen a lot of regiments that drummers use and I do some practice drills but I always find I learn more just trying and failing and trying again.
I have been playing with this style for a little while and has confirmed I am on a good track.
Just found your channel so Subscribed and looking forward to more content.
Thanks for the lesson.
When you got to the All Doubles section and played two snare hits, I would add that you can add variations by inverting the doubles to create a R sticking before the backbeat for a ghost beforehand
New sub! I have been playing for about a month!! I’m so happy I found your page! You are so awesome with the sticks!! I’ve tried so many lessons from you, I’m getting there! I’m 43 and a new drumhead!! Thank you for your time!!
Good stuff! Keep grinding. Singles ,doubles and paradiddles then go from there. Flams are a good rudiment as well. Practice slow- the speed will come. Good luck
Love this one. Good to see you back!
Best channel intro I have ever seen🤣🤣
Your style of practicing drums has transformed my drumming alot bro thanks 👊🏼
Total lightbulb thanks dood!
This inspired me to get drumming again
Same
The kick on the uh, 16th note pattern was pretty sick. Extending it into a two bar groove with other placements of the kick would make a great beat
thought the intro would sound like "duk duk-thak duk chiittt thak" if you khat what I mean
I’ve been trying to get into making beats but found it quite overwhelming but your channel makes the basics so much more digestible 🙏🏾
This channel is gold if you're starting out making beats man. Learning the fundamentals of groove and drumming down in the beginning of your production journey will really make things much much easier for you. Good luck, and most importantly have fun!
We miss you brandon..Happy to see you and knowing that you're enjoying in vacation with your wife. The lessons is so helpful men. Thanks scott😎
I don’t know if anyone has already said this, but one I’ve been trying lately is the 32nd note triplet (played like an unaccented single stroke four, but starting on the beat) moved around the grid. It’s the closest thing to those glitchy hi hat trap bursts I’ve found so far. I dig this video a ton though for its own application! Thanks!
I definitely had that eureka moment! Great lesson man!
Solid advice about practicing drums @3:17
great teacher man, awesome lesson! i like how you still explore the idea with us
Why does the camera angles and colors always look so cool
I’ve been working hard on using proper camera settings as well as color grading a bit. Messing around with different lighting setups and editing. Trying to find what I like best! Glad it is being noticed! 😍
@@BrandonScottDrums I think that was time spent well like the video
GREAT LESSON! Simple, clear, complete, annotated, and low key. This was very helpful, and inspirational. Thank you!
Good to see youre back! I like it when you show us how you struggle learning these concecpts, it makes it feel more real somehow.
Nice! Was missing your uploads, welcome back and have a great 2021! Wishing you all the best.
Dude you're spot on...I ran right to the kit and felt a confident change....you rock!
Yessssss so good. Especially your point on calibrating your body! That's the ultimate joy of drumming.
Changes everything for me! Thanks Brandon!!
Love your approach! So curious and unafraid to explore. This helped me rethink some parts of a song I'm playing on. Cheers, dude!
Dude, great lesson once again. Your content along with Rob Brown's are really educative. My two favorite drum channels. Keep up the great work! Cheers
Glad to have you back Brandon.
Badass lesson. I love incorporating trap style hats on the kit!
bro...keep em coming!! more lessons! Loving it!
Amazing. I can see you are having fun. Loved it
marvelously explained !!!! astonishing video!!!! thanks for doing it
First vid I've come across. Quickly subscribed. Got some back catalogue to watch.
i love this channel. very simple explaining but super effective in my drumming. i also love ur tutorial about triplets
My new bride and I went to Hawaii. No zeh-bruhs though. Keep making the lessons and congratulations scoring a gem 👸🏻
loved this lesson!
congrats on 100 k !
This is a great lesson for any musician...rhythmic concepts like this are applicable all over the place. For me, this helped expand on applying subtlety in the right places when programming hats in a DAW for pop stuff. Wish I had a drum set, but this still should help me a lot with production. Good lookin' out, man.
Congrats on 100k!!
Excellent.. great ideas simplified! Thanks!
That was amazing! Thank you!
Just the reminder I needed!! Liked.🙏
I'm so intrested in learning trap, glad you uploaded this, it was really helpfull
Thank you Brandon! You were so right ... so simple once you explained what is going on ... it is much appreciated!
Awesome video, thank you for dropping the knowledge
The drum beat at 5:35 is a lot like the Supa Bwe song SURVIVAL at 43 seconds. The high-hat has like a gallop feel to it.
Haven’t watched your channel in a while. I just saw this newer intro......I see you’re a man of culture 🧐😂🤣
Amazing, great teaching, Thank you!
Sweet lesson! But I think the majority of trap music/beats (50% or more) play the trap hi-hat rolls with an underlying triplet modulation, rather than 16th note.
The drake song at the beginning is all 16th note based, but the following two have an underlying triplet for the rolls.
It’d be cool to hear you explore some ideas, modulating from a 16th note check pattern to triplet trap rolls!
I would say that’s the next step for YOU! Go and try it
Make a video bro we'll watch it
You’re completely right, I wanted this video to be a simple video for most people to be able to grasp. The moment you bring in the word “triplet” people freak out haha, but good idea. I will definitely make “trap hihat - PT2 - triplet version” 😂
@@BrandonScottDrums That sounds really cool! Switching in and out of triplets can bring a real 🅵🅾🅽🅺🅸🅽🅴🆂🆂 to a groove.
Great video! Love that vintage color grading!
It such a long time for me to figure out the hi hat pattern when playing.thank you very much for this lesson.
This was a great lesson with a solid approach. New sub.
Very awesome video. Thanks for the inspiration!
Simply the best👍💯
really well done.
Such good advice on how to practice

DIG!! nice stix work Mate
Great video man definitely going to use this next time I practice!
Cool Video Brandon!
I always want to now how trap hi hats were really play cuz it be easier to do them on a midi keyboard instead of actual drums thx for this LOVE IT
Great video 👌🏻 I love your videos, it's very cool that you talk about the "trap"
Regards Brandon
Just found your channel, have been practicing other types of syncopation beats today and this just fits right in ! Cheers man, will have to check out more of your content !
