No matter what the scores were, all of the corps performed their hearts out and isn't that what really matters? Drum Corps is not necessarily all about scores and placements. It's more about the teamwork, dedication, discipline, and spreading the word and importance of music education throughout the nation.
***** Absolutely. It's okay to be sad that your favorite didn't win, but don't let that make you discredit the hard work and determination of the others. Scores are one thing, but, in the end, all that really matters is the product itself and I don't think anyone can deny that all of these groups put out a fantastic production.
***** Bravo! Took the words right out of my mouth. There are some really disrespectful fans out there, even some degenerates who put down these hardworking kids. Seeing this comment restores my faith in the DCI fan-base. Thank you for spreading the positive spirit of drum corps!
You know, everyone's talking about whether or not Crown or BD deserved to win, but I don't see enough people talking about 3rd and below. Not enough appreciation for Bluecoats and their huge finals leap that even almost beat Crown. Or the Cadets who put on what may be the most difficult looking show I've ever seen and performed it like masters. Or SCV who I feel had one of the most creative shows of the season and it was a joy to watch every time, even in finals when the keyboard cut out in the beginning. Or the Blue Knights pulling off one of their best finishes ever. Or the Madison Scouts who, despite me not being a big fan of the show, outpaced the Cavaliers for the first time in 18 years. Let's get some better appreciation for the corps that weren't the top 2, please?
I loved every minute of Crown, The Bluecoats, and yes, the Blue Devils. Each of them brought a unique show and amazing talent all season, and the finals. While I fell in love with Crown's Inferno, the complexity and flawless execution of the Blue Devils is very impressive, and they deserve the title. I must admit I am tired of the same corps winning all the time, and it's the same in other sports. That being said, to the people who say the Blue Devils don't perform interesting shows, your criticism is unintelligent and you need to start evaluating them on more specific criteria. In other words, you're dumb. I mean, come on, did you hear the last four minutes of the Blue Devils show? It should move you to tears. That could also be said for Crown, who used classical music and Dante's immortal story of the Inferno to move the listeners. All in all, please appreciate all the literary and musical genius that these corps produce, and let's stop using simple and misguided criticism.
Dan Nemanic Thank you for this comment! Too many complain about the negatives of a show now a days, many criticize interpretation musical arts too much and end up being pessimistic about everything instead of simply enjoying the masterpiece of it all.
Honestly that sucks for BD and Crown, since it places a bad light on Crown because of the immature people of their fans and it devalues BD’s work and achievements
Willie is the best. I just talked to him at the Blue Way Camp and he's so nice and funny. Also, someone asked him if he thought Crown should've won lol
it's because the finals were rigged. The Bluecoats got an offer to get 1st place and win the Crowns. THEY ACCEPTED against some of the members (like willie). Crowns were supposed to win.
Wow.... First, I was a corps member starting in 1945 when it was all Sons of American Legion drum & Bugle Corps. I was in Wichita, Kansas and our Corps won several State Championships and then on to the Nationals. I've medals from Philadelphia, Miami, LA, (twice) and it was great fun. Now, the changes are astounding and great! Thanks for posting!
I'd hate to be a judge. Not because half the crowd is mad at them, but because how do you judge shows that are often so vastly different from one another?
Did anyone else notice that the top 3 were all within one point of each other? And that the Bluecoats were only 0.15 points away from beating Crown? Imagine if the Bluecoats got second after being 4th/3rd all season and Crown getting third after being 1st/2nd all season. THAT would be a story.
Hitting that 45:10 mark and seeing how fast 20,000 people clear out of Lucas Oil before encore. Oof. Props to the performers of all of the corps for putting on the shows that they were given very well. Judges might not have seen what was kind of obvious, and drill and music may have been written to be more easily performed from one corps to the next. Props to the cadets, coats, santa clara, and boston's staffs for going for it this year. For real great performers all around.
I dont think it was small minded or petty. A lot of people did not like the show and did not get it. I definitely would have left and i think its pretty obvious who was better
Kyle Buflod I don't know if that's typical but I know when we've attended we leave after the last corp has performed so we can get to our car and off to our hotel quickly before the crowds let out.
Kyle Buflod I was sitting next to you and followed you around for a while (guess who) and I do want to make the comment about how the judges who are sitting in a press box 200 feet in the air aren't going to see what we see sitting 50 feet away from the side two goal line... also anyone remember the reaction to Stars 1991 show getting first? (If you don't, the 1991 awards are in the same playlist this video is...)
First place was announced, I was 7 rows up on the fifty, all I could hear was booing. My heart goes out to all the members of Carolina Crown, you had a flawless run, no one can deny you that, you were perfect, no matter what one panel of judges thinks, inferno, in my opinion, was performed better than Felliniesque on Saturday
Simba With nothing mean to say of Carolina whatsoever.. and all due respect to you Simba.. Dennis DeLucia has been an expert Hall of Fame figure of PERCUSSION in dci since forever...... If he says ( at 41:20 in this video ).. that he and Steve Rondinaro stood at FIELD LEVEL to hear Carolina and others.. and he heard : "relative deficiencies".... in Carolina's Percussion performance.. especially "in the snare voice".... you can bet believe that Mr. DeLucia's ears are/were accurate......
Simba Your heart goes out to Crown? What about Blue Devils members that were BOOED after they had won a championship. That's the problem with the immature people that are allowed to have an opinion, but in turn, BOO a corp for winning!? The kids in Concord worked JUST as hard as everyone. Do they deserve to be booed? That's whats sad.
Marcus L. I agree with that. As much as I wanted Crown to win, I was kind of disgusted at the booing. That being said, I wonder if the crowd was actually booing at the judges' decision rather than the corps itself. If you boo a corps, you're basically shaming the fact that they worked really hard, which is ridiculous. Of course they're going to try their best. That's why I think the crowd was actually frustrated with the judges, not BD. However, for a member of the crowd to boo for either of those reasons is totally disrespectful and unnecessary.
When the Patriots won the Super Bowl, how many football fans do you think were happy (unless you're a true Patriots fan)? DCI is the NFL of the marching arts and has a fan base that will be personally biased. It's a competitive based industry and fans have the right to cheer, boo, whatever. Maybe we should just take away placements so EVERY one is happy! Or how about like figure skating we just ALL throw roses and teddy bears on the field so EVERY one feels special. Yayyyyy =)
Isn't it sort of hilarious that in the BD show the first thing the young girl sees when she pops out of the book is a bunch of people swinging swords around? I know it's part of the show, but I still think it's funny.
2016 has got to be a little better! I can't wait to see Cadets, Crown, or Bluecoats defeat BD. Don't get me wrong, I like BD, but it just isn't fun when the same corps win all the time.
I can't stand Dennis Delucia, every time someone comments on crown it gets right back to BD, he is so biased and I just can't stand it. And trust me I totally love BD and all they do, but crown never gets talked about by them without being switched back to how "perfect BD" is across the board. Like we freaking get it. Damn.
texmexatx lol. Maybe the rule doesn't always apply.... Phantom Regiment went 'black' in 1995 - 1999.... However.. they were back in mostly white by 2000 - 2001...... :-)
I don't like how some say that it isn't "fun" when the same group wins. For me, it makes it that much more exciting to see who pulls out all the stops to be at the top and dethrone them. Just my opinion. I can understand the sentiment though.
i was said to see that crown didn't make first but i was so happy at the end because that means i get to have hunter bown drum major of carolina crown as my assistant band director :D
This outcome of this is similar to "I can't believe they didn't run the ball." Its been 7 months and I am still shocked as to how Crown got robbed by judges favoring park and bark.
Crown's drumline this season did a lot better than they have in the past because they have Tom Aungst, but for some reason they had a pretty poor run in finals. I think the drumline will be getting a lot better, especially from what I've seen of early clips of them for this year. But they did score like 5th in drums and BD won drums so thats one caption they definitely had them beat in.
Akmed Man I agree, let me add something, BD didn't deserve the Fred Sanford award since The Cadets clearly had the best drumline. Think about it, all the way throughout finals week it was neck and neck between Cadets percussion and SCV's. All of a sudden BD gets a penalty, their tenor player falls on his back, and they end up winning drums. Doesn't add up AT ALL.
can we all be super realistic for a moment. crown's show was good, it was great even in every aspect but blue devils deserved that win. ink was an outstanding show and everyone has their opinions, but no in my opinion blue devils deserved that win.
RebuffedAsh I'm a few months too late, but, also don't disregard that Bluecoats were top 3 in percussion that year. Cadets should've most definitely won the Sanford. And about the tenor player, they don't count that, it's just based on how well you recover from the mistake. I feel like it should've been Cadets for the Sanford, Coats for 2nd place and BD 3rd.
Also, I believe that some year, crown will have another great show and they will take first place. I wonder what it would be about...reply your ideas and let's see what happens.
I'm really happy this comment section isn't full of "DUR CROWN GOT ROBBED BD SUCKS" and that it's pretty much the complete opposite. Also, I love Dennis's comment on the Cadets "Like a human track team". What other kinds of track teams are there and why don't I know about them? lol
My problem isn't that BD won as it was deserved; it's their reaction to winning. Go crazy when you're announced first. Have some respect for your competitors to whom you almost lost.
Dan Miller Uh Crown did it in 2013, maybe not to the extent that BD did it, but they also embraced one another and cried. Their emotions are probably really high right now, seeing as how they just came out on top in what looked like to them a second place finish to Crown. Get off the bandwagon and stop being hypocritical, thanks.
Dan Miller I feel like you're sorta new to DCI, celebrating a win isn't disrespectful, even the way BD does it. I'm sure if you were in BlueDevils this season you would've celebrated the same way too.
I love BD. The only time I was ever disappointed that they won was 1980 when my all time favorite corp... the 27th Lancers took 2nd place. The 27th Lancers color gaurds of 1979 and 1980 are legendary and nobody played Danny Boy better. I'm sure the BD's had the better scores that night but that 27th Lancers show was just so damn fantastic, it hurt to see the East fall yet again. And the 27th Lancers are just a memory... but it would have been nice if only... 1980 :-(
What happened to the Green Machine????? they were always in the top 3...ever since I was a little girl in the 1950s, 1960s,.....yeah...I know...I am in my early 60s....but...I have watching these guys since I was 8 years old....I used to sneak in to watch the DCI show when I lived in Woodstock, Illinois...up at the Woodstock High School football field.......back then...anything ANYTHING new was fabulous....but...my green machine has slipped...and it makes me sadd....especially watching the Madison Scouts, the Racine Kilties, the Phantom Regiment (who did a FABULOUS AND AMAZING SHOW WHEN THEY PLAYED THE MUSIC from Phantom of the Opera and made the whole band disappear from the field...THAT MADE ME shake my head and wish I still lived in the Mid-west....
Congratulations, to the The blue Devils, this show was the best off all. I'm speaking with the bottom of my heart. I love this show And blue devils did what they had to. they deserve the fist pace. Good Team work. CONGRATULATIONS .
i stopped going to dci events once i realized that, the top 3 placings are the same corps almost everytime..... o personally like the cavaliers the most.
Couldn't agree with you more. From an audience standpoint it was pure slop, however their technicality was superior and that's what they used to propel themselves to a championship. Then again, it's a really selfish way to win, especially when crown won GE and had the audience on their feet through the whole show
Blue devils might have had a more clean show, but if I’m gonna be honest with you, the show just wasn’t very appeasing. Crown and the bluecoats were fun to watch and listen to. Am I saying they the blue devils were bad, no, but I think crown should’ve won
Even the announcers know that Crown got robbed. And people keep giving the excuse of "well think of the bd kids who are all so happy". Yeah well think of the kids in Crown who won prelims and semis and were favored to win that night. How do you think they feel about playing the pants off that stadium and still getting 1st taken from them? Doesn't exactly help that they're down there on the field while BD is losing their minds right next to them.
***** You mean because their emotions were running high assuming they thought they wouldn't come out of finals with nothing less than a 2nd place finish? Crown also did it in 2013, stop being a hypocrite. The announcers didn't know Crown got robbed, stop trying to fan the flames for the "fans" of DCI being small minded and petty.
I don't know if you happened to be at the show or not, but I was on row 2 on the 50. Perfect spot. And I like Crown, but I could feel they were not on fire as during previous shows. I love the Blue Devils, and expected Crown to win. But when they performed in that last spot, I just felt that some intensity was missing. And given they won GE, the individual mistakes caused by the performers allowed BD to slide ahead on the finals night. Blue Devils are not a corps that chokes in any way. That is actually what the announcers feel.
They didn't play the pants off of the stadium, their finals run was at best "meh". You can't rely on some banners and chanting to win world championships.
@@TheComedyHistorian It's what happens when you do essentially the same show formula over and over and have the simplest drill of any corps. Real easy to be clean when you don't have to do as much.
+Little Jon back in old school marching you would pop your left leg before the step off on count 4. BK was the last corps to do it and held onto the tradition in some way.
I think I'm one of the few people that felt a dip in energy in Crowns show from Prelims to Finals. Their finals run just wasn't as good as their prelims run.
I was at finals and was pulling hard for Crown because the show was very entertaining, but I too got a sinking feeling partway through the finals performance that it wasn't gonna cut it. Simply put, Crown is fantastic at what Crown is great at (brass, ge, being a crowd-pleaser), and not good at all at the things they aren't. Percussion often sinks them pretty hard. That's just the way things are. I did feel like BD won, but I didn't feel like it was a win by 0.50. That surprised me.
Slotting and BD got hit with a major pre-show penalty out in the lot which showed them worse that they actually did on Quarterfinals night. They hacked away in the slotting scores the next night and had the cleanest show Finals night. While Crown had a great show, their worst performance in music and visual and finals night, while BD had their best show of the week. BD won by 0.6 I believe, which may seem close, but it really isn't.
@@Ac_Amora Metronome being too loud in warm-ups. BD got wrapped up in a penalty that, if I remember right, had been an issue with 2 other corps messing with each other at the prior regional. It hadn't been an issue with BD, but BD got hit with the penalty of 0.500. Without that penalty at Prelims, BD would have been 2nd place behind Crown with Crown being 96.475 and BD at 95.850.
Crown’s color guard deserved better I think. If you watch their show over and solely focused on the color guard you can appreciate and realize how hard it is to perform what they performed at a extraordinary level. JUST LOOK AT THOSE FLAGS AT THE END OF THE SHOW 😂😂
Seabass McBigFat OMG someone was robbed? Do we know who? Are they ok? What was taken? Were they robbed at gunpoint? Darn shame a robbery had to happen at Lucas Oil the same night BD beat Crown fair and square on the field.
Russell Chessor OMG someone was robbed? Do we know who? Are they ok? What was taken? Were they robbed at gunpoint? Darn shame a robbery had to happen at Lucas Oil the same night BD beat Crown fair and square on the field.
I saw crown's show live this year and I had goosebumps the whole time
+Andy Mayeux Same... I loved it..
I would've laughed if the Cadets actually got 10th place
smoshman6000 Bad of course, but I thought it would be a funny coincidence.
+PresentGenGamer I get it lol
Cadets won brass this year, the first time since 2005. That's a 10 year span. #powerof10

CyberShwartz I'm sorry you felt that way. I enjoyed it.

Saw it in person. It was amazing to watch. Especially the closer.

RebuffedAsh
I'm a few months too late, but, also don't disregard that Bluecoats were top 3 in percussion that year. Cadets should've most definitely won the Sanford. And about the tenor player, they don't count that, it's just based on how well you recover from the mistake. I feel like it should've been Cadets for the Sanford, Coats for 2nd place and BD 3rd.
Thanks for the fix
Go Blue Devils!!!!!!
Can someone please tell me what the music is during the recap? At 25:26?
Run boy run - woodkid
Also, I believe that some year, crown will have another great show and they will take first place. I wonder what it would be about...reply your ideas and let's see what happens.
kinetic noise deserved first
I'm really happy this comment section isn't full of "DUR CROWN GOT ROBBED BD SUCKS" and that it's pretty much the complete opposite. Also, I love Dennis's comment on the Cadets "Like a human track team". What other kinds of track teams are there and why don't I know about them? lol
Cadets show was absolutely insane. I am stunned that they got it as clean as they did with the time they had
Blue coats were my fav
they say that the blue knights are the darlings of the finals every year lol
lol they used Run Boy Run for the recap of the season and showed the Cavaliers for a whole 3 seconds.
SoundShapeColor And then BD went over to them and shook their hands and congratulated them on the good season.
Dan Miller Id also lime to point out they've done it every championship they've won
Where is Gita Surosowan Banten from Indonesia?
"Receiving the silver medal...Carolina Crown" Then BD flips out in the background
Usually what happens when you find out you win something you weren't expecting.
The guy at 28:49 with the red shirt and tie works with my high school marching band! Shoutout to Steeeeeeve!
Congratulations to The Cadets on the Jim Ott! Very well deserved!
After Bluecoats were announced you could have heard a pin drop in that stadium... #crownshould'vewon
14:50. is that...Neil Patrick Harrison??
BD performed like machines this year, loved it!!
It has been two years and I am still salty...CROWN SHOULD HAVE WON!!!! 😡😤
Gabe Trotter cadets*
2020 and still...
CONGRATULATIONS
.
Is it just me, or do the Aussie style hat make the marchers seem like they're going so much faster? Or am I just crazy?
15:00 made almost the exact same statement about BK as the 2014 retreat lol
Why do people get so wrapped up in the scores? Like just enjoy the performances shit man
Hell yeah
i stopped going to dci events once i realized that, the top 3 placings are the same corps almost everytime..... o personally like the cavaliers the most.
Cavaliers unfortunately had a very rough season in 2015. I remember how sad it was when they couldn't perform at Atlanta due to sickness.
except bluecoats have only ever been in the top three, three times??....
bluecoats are the shit too lol
+Larry Leech have you seen them lately, cavaliers are third this time
no they aren't
Who really truly enjoyed BD's show over Crown's? Thats what should matter the most. They both executed at the highest level.
Absolutely not. Execution over everything and Crown's semifinals run was better than their finals run.
40:16 "Really finding that fire within us..."
-Blue Devils' drum major...
FIRE within you, huh? Hmmmm. Interesting choice of words...
2015年DCI(ドラム コー インターナショナル)チャンピオンシップ
DCI WILL LAST FOREVER
im sorry but i thought crown was ten time better,. im shocked
Couldn't agree with you more. From an audience standpoint it was pure slop, however their technicality was superior and that's what they used to propel themselves to a championship. Then again, it's a really selfish way to win, especially when crown won GE and had the audience on their feet through the whole show
and this is exactly why they still have not won another title. They thibk they DESERVE it instead of WORKING for it. Clown should have gotten 4th
27:34 she double-handed that catch...
better show, worse run, is all that can describe Carolina Crown on this night
Blue devils might have had a more clean show, but if I’m gonna be honest with you, the show just wasn’t very appeasing. Crown and the bluecoats were fun to watch and listen to. Am I saying they the blue devils were bad, no, but I think crown should’ve won
I WISH TO SEE A REAL DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS.
Congrats to the Blue Devils marching band.
Young Memer in the making.
wow my band bought the balls from the blue coats
39:13 you're welcome
Shall we never forget Carolina crown blew a 3 place lead
37:50 is pure sadness for crown lol
As amazing as the Blue Devils are, it gets tiring seeing the same corps win almost every year 🙁.
Yup
fr like its not fun when the same people win every single year
That’s what happens when you’re consistently the cleanest
@@TheComedyHistorian It's what happens when you do essentially the same show formula over and over and have the simplest drill of any corps. Real easy to be clean when you don't have to do as much.
@@TheComedyHistorian if your corp is known for just being clean and nothing else then that’s just not a first place almost every year corp
Where's Surosowan
Indonesia
Can someone PLEASE explain the BK leg pop? XD
+Little Jon back in old school marching you would pop your left leg before the step off on count 4. BK was the last corps to do it and held onto the tradition in some way.
+Brian Nguyen you're so smart Brian. What are you? A blue devil?
Bluecoats should have won this show.
I do think it's interesting just how somber the commentators seem in their remarks. In particular the usually upbeat and excitable Steve Rondinaro....
I agree with you, I went all 3 nights. Semifinals, crown was on fire, no pun intended. Then after their finals run, I knew something was off.
@@cjags1232I almost felt like they treated their finals run almost like a victory run.
How the hell does crown win the first two nights then Blue Devils take it in finals.. dang I'm sure their heart sank when they heard second place
@@Corrections101 wait what was the penalty for?
JUST LOOK AT THOSE FLAGS AT THE END OF THE SHOW 😂😂
Everyone talking about Blue Devils and Crown, am I the only one wondering why Cadets didn't win?! I love their show
Their show was exemplary.
crown should have won.
Oh, man! This video is borderline ESPN material...
Great time to revisit the robbery.
Seabass McBigFat OMG someone was robbed? Do we know who? Are they ok? What was taken? Were they robbed at gunpoint?
Darn shame a robbery had to happen at Lucas Oil the same night BD beat Crown fair and square on the field.
Back to the pimps!!
One of the biggest robberies DCI judges have made. No way Carolina Crown walked away without a medal that night.
Russell Chessor OMG someone was robbed? Do we know who? Are they ok? What was taken? Were they robbed at gunpoint?
Darn shame a robbery had to happen at Lucas Oil the same night BD beat Crown fair and square on the field.
They did walk away with a medal… just not gold.
