  • I get a lot of inquiries from customers who are unsure of whether to buy the 15" round or the 17x13" elliptical. They are both good coils, but with some very slight differences, so I decided to do a video so you can see for yourself. On the two targets tested, the 5000 with 15" round in Fine Gold gave the best response, and a very close second was the 17x13" in Enhance on the 4500.

    have you tried coilteck? I'm fairly new at detecting and picked up the 18mono elite.it punches deep with my gpx4000 on small targets and large ,I haven't been able to get the gain over 9 though..

      I like the build quality and lightness of the Evolutions. Yes big coils are like a bigger antenna and will pick up more EMI, so you generally can't use high Gain settings. They are less reactive to hot rocks, and small hot spots but do see more ground. If the ground has any salt content, bigger coils will react more to it. A good reason to have a range of sizes on hand.

    Hi Nenad, Similar results but still I might go for the 15" round. I use the special extra timing for the Gpx 4500 where possible. Seems to work okay for the 12" mono NF. And always slow sweep speed setting

    Hi Nenad, good comparison well done. A question about the 4500 you used, is it the later version (ver 2) or the first version released?
    Cheers

      Thanks Tony. My 4500 is a very early original

      Nenad @ Phase Technical Hi Nenad, thanks for replying. If your early 4500 is standard, has it had any modifications done to it?
      Regards
      Tony

      No, standard original, no mods apart from external gear. I use fiberglass upper stem, SteelPhase enhancer and Recon-ST headphones and the new spiral wound coils.

    Do you think that the new 17x13 is better than the old 17x11 I saw so much gold found with that 17x11 I think that's what I'm going to get any thoughts

      When the 17x13" had just come out, I had a training session with a guy on his 5000. When we were going through coils I noticed he had a 17x11" in his kit. Later we compared the two, and the Evo won hands down. Much sharper response, better on porous type gold, and less susceptible to EMI. The only time where the 17x11" would be worth keeping in the kit is for very highly reactive soils, wet clays, thick ironstone etc. as the flat winds can be too sensitive at times. But 98% of the time simply reducing Rx Gain and/or a drop to a less powerful timing is all that is required.

    I thought the 15 inch round performed better overall. Interesting to see how the 15 inch round would have performed with the 4500.

      Yeah I agree. Nice talking to you today. Check this video to see that 15" coil on the 4500 ua-cam.com/video/nNpf0x__ceM/v-deo.htmlsi=Z-wc-yZo82oQlf9a

    Do you use the auto tune on the 5000? Awesome video👍

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  3 роки тому

      If I'm going to areas I go regularly, I kind of know what numbers will run quiet, so will just manually set them and tweak as required. But if going to a totally new spot, I will auto tune at the start of the session.

      @@diggingwithphasetech thanks for the advise I'll take notice at what number the auto tune tunes to at different areas and I'll have a go from there with manual tuning all new to this but getting the hang of my machine and loving it I'm yet to find my first piece but I'm finding small shotgun pallets easy enough and enjoying it 😂 👍

    Which coil is better on nugget finder. An ellipse or a round one. In depth and for small targets. Which one is more versatile

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  24 дні тому

      Round of equivalent size will always go deeper on larger targets. An elliptical has better sensitivity, and signal on deeper targets can be a little sharper, just maximum depth potential drops off a little quicker. I prefer the 17x13" for all-round use, and the 15" round when I'm going over a patch.

    Gooday Menard. (did I spell it right?).
    Thankyou for doing those comparisons for us. It helped me on a pending decision. Just an observation. Lots of videos are out showing various comparisons on detectors and up to date I've only watched one where the operator was swinging the detector as he would do on flat ground when looking for gold without particularly slowing the swing because of an imminent target.
    It's not pointless to wave it over just scratching the dirt and swinging ever so slowly BUT that's what most folk do AFTER they get pulled up from the initial search.
    Having said all that, I still appreciated your video VERY much. Just wanted to add my 2 bobs worth cause I reckon people would get a better understanding of the detectors capabilities when swinging it normally.
    Thanks again Menard. Cya! 🇭🇲🤗

      Bugga! I just saw how long ago you posted the video. Sorry mate, hope your still fit and well. I just re read what I wrote and it does sound like I'm telling you what to do. It wasn't my intention to do that. Sorry! Maybe, just maybe someone will post a comparison doing it your way AND the way I suggested. Who knows. Easy for me to do the talking while YOU have made the big effort of getting all the gear together and filming it and putting it up for us to see. Left up to me, I'd maybe get as far as putting my slippers on and making coffee.
      Thanks mate. Take care! 🇭🇲🤗

      All good. Actually I do sweep that slowly when in a known area, where only deep whisper targets remain, so the results are very relevant. Doing well, but I haven't been fit for many years haha. Last time I was kinda fit was when the 7000 was released. That was a fun 6 months! Thanks for stopping by. Check out some more recent vids if you have the time. Cheers, Nenad
