Damn, that was a great, highly substantive interview. Thank goodness for independent media, we'd never see something this helpful for deciding our votes from corporate media.
I've very glad to hear Col. Wilkerson's perspective on the current political situation. Regarding the necessity of a large anti-war movement to offset the negative effects of either candidate's presidency, the largest anti-war movement PRIOR to an actual war occurred during Bush II against the impending Iraq invasion. That movement had essentially no effect. The U.S. government is not responsive to the population's wishes. That situation will not change under either Trump or Clinton. Does anyone believe that a large anti-war movement would prevent a President Trump from starting a war??? During the Obama regime, the anti-war movement was castrated because Obama is a Democrat and the first black president. A similar reticence to protest will occur under a first-female President Clinton II. Either way, we're screwed. A vote for either candidate is an insane action.
I disagree- the anti-war movement failed to stop the Iraq war after 9/11- when the American public was in a patriotic fervor and out for blood. But I believe that the anti-war movement stopped Bush and Cheney from starting another war, against Iran. After the truth began to come out about the false justifications for the war in Iraq, coupled with the lack of WMDs, the Abu Gharaib photos, and the utter failure in post war Iraqi security and reconstruction, it cast a very dark shadow on the Bush administration and the neoconservative ideologues behind them. This was a result of the work of anti war activists (and, of course, some partisan interests who supported similar policies under Obama).
Regarding Trumps position on intervention in Libya, it's important to mention that the intelligence that made him believe Gaddafi was murdering his own people came from Susan Rice and Hillary.
If our "leaders" truly believed in the Magna Carta 2.0 ( our constitution), justice and due process would be extended to all humans--no matter where they call home---as a moral duty. Neither Gaddhafi nor Bin Laden were given their day in court. In order to maintain the illusion of democracy, the U.S. extends these "rights" only to its citizens while simultaneously convincing them that only they should be extended those rights. If the U.S. did not do this, no one would fight for or support the many wars we have carried out.
Actually he was pierced with a blade in his anus, that is how he died....that is Ottoman/Islamist style of punishment, by the "freedom fighters" the US had been supporting.
Great discussion! How sad is it that this essentially Eisenhower Republican is to the left (on foreign policy) of not only both candidates from the major parties, but also every Democratic President of at least the last 60 years?
Eisenhower was candid about the cost to the country's everyday people given a slavish support of the military industrial complex. From his Chance for Peace speech, April 16, 1953. "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children." And Eisenhower had an income tax structure that forced the ultra rich to share the COST of their inordinate profits! There is no justice for everyday people to be found in either of the two duopoly parties. Vote 3rd party and support getting rid of first-past-the-post ballots from presidency on down!!!
Col Wilkerson got to the point about questioning the ideology of 'Israel first'/'US interests are Israel's interest' and it's perilous nature just as his phone rang in the background....made me jump a bit. :) lol. Great video in many ways.
as Clausewitz stated, once you begin a war, nobody is able to predict the outcome, because of the terrible forces that you unleash. This was proved definitively accurate in both world wars I&II, and Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, and the War on Drugs. None of those ventures were won by the initial perpetrators, and all back-fired. The problem the US faces, as opposed to most other nations in the world, is that we as a people on our own territory have not experienced a war for more than 150 years, so we regard the word itself with grave indifference. In addition to being unmindful of the potential harm we might unleash on ourselves, we are completely indifferent, as a people, to the consequences suffered by others, be they combatants, civilians in the cross fire, or refugees.
Well very depressing but was WHAT I had already pretty much thought myself. I Will Vote for Jill Stein. I hope this country can grow up and do something different!
One step at a time, my friend. Jill Stein will be open to YOUR disagreement/concerns, and will base policy on discussions such as the one you are bringing up. Imperatives: We must save our planet and our economy and our country first. Detail policy wonker-ism can surely wait? I do hear your concerns about how that might play out as divisive. However, Hill-Drumpf will systematically derail or decimate actual problem-solving on all three imperatives with their blind preoccupation with money and self-aggrandizement/fame. They're concern is only in polishing a personal legacy. Ours must be about providing our children with lives worth living.
why is participating in a corrupt system to vote for an honest candidate who CAN'T win because of the corruption of the system more morally responsible than refusing to participate in the corrupt system? i think it is an ego issue about how special MY personal vote is. If one sees thousands of other citizens votes getting THROWN IN THE TRASH how does this not effect the integrity of the vote and of the personal single vote? we DURRR past california and florida irregularities at our own peril.
Thanks Paul Jay for the interview. It was going well until Wilkerson started talking about Obama in the Roosevelt Room, “He (Obama) sees the Primary instrument being the diplomatic instrument being influential on that but secondary to it”. Paul, where are you; Obama is just a puppet; the CFR tells Obama what he thinks. What came out of Wilkerson’s mouth after that had a distinct odor and tended to turn one’s stomach. 9.12 “As a great power; as an advocate of human rights and peace in the world”. I interpreted this as what Wilkerson believed and intended to convey; especially when he backs it up with an antiwar quote from the warmonger (Powell) that lied to the world using the platform of the UN in a successful attempt to justify an invasion of a sovereign state on behalf of the Neocons. It’s as if Wilkerson has no understanding of real Anglo-American Imperial history. With such ignorance, how does he hold down an academic position in an institute of advanced learning? Maybe the position is purely political and he pushes the party line. Paul Jay, you let this spewed garbage slide without question. Is this because you wish to retain a connection to the early Neocons from which you hope to extract current information? Can’t watch anymore.
Actually, the Sane Progressive was quoting the illustrious Ralph Nader about the dangers of Hillary Clinton's hawkishness. Yes, a telling and empirically truthful soundbite.
What a nightmare. And as both of these men suggest, it is a lose/lose situation. And that's without a discussion about the environment. I have a bug out bag packed but while one can hide from the insanity of extreme ideologues to an extent; hide from the corporate takeover and the police state mentality to a much lesser extent; one cannot hide from climate change. This is why between educating myself on survival and keeping a close watch to aid me in knowing WHEN to bug out, I drink heavily.
Seriously, I have given up alcohol for this very reason...because my impulse would be to sedate my fears, to welcome stupor and oblivion. So I don't even go there. James. why are we staying silently complicit? Why aren't we in the streets or at least hanging out our windows at the same time, yelling "Mad as hell and not going to take it anymore?" Is Vermont big enough for all of us to fit into? Or will we need to look to the whole of Canada? Maybe that wall Trump wants to build is to keep us IN?
Col. Wilkerson: weren't you advising Secretary of State colin Powell when he was at the U.N. manufacturing reasons we just had to invade Iraq.??????please explain ! !
i am just sorry that such things are not broad-casted on any TV-set... unless it is youtube compatible. thanks for your input. please make shure your interview-partners use reliable video-conference software and have fast internet.
btw. feel free to use my mumble server for the audio. dwaves.de/2016/02/07/mumble-plumble-how-to-make-audio-calls-and-conversations-private-secure-and-free-opensource/ it has pretty good audio quality. better than telefone or skype.
can't verify the nuclear weapon question but plays it anyway.... come on RealNews! Don't get drawn into the rhetoric/ propaganda trap. keep it balanced man... you've been doing great so far
I'm just the messenger and did not make the message. It has nothing to do with superstition or a wish of any kind. It's about what kind of world are we leaving to the future generations? That should be a very important question to ask.
No, it is not irrelevant and it has nothing to do with superstition. It is absolutely relevant. Again, I'm just the messenger and this is a part of the message.
the parties over lets all go green with Dr,Jill Stein lets show them we have other choices save us from ourselves were being brainwashed into beleiving we only have 2 choices dpn't buy it , go green the green new deal is far healthier for everyone check out Jill Stein before you choose our fate
Trump is certainly not a principled non interventionist, and I worry about how easy it might be for hawks to manipulate his ego into fighting unnecessary wars. On the other hand, his short list for the Supreme Court wasn't bad, he'll defend the 2nd amendment, he'll oppose all this climate change nonsense and he'll get the border patrol working again. Luckily, when it comes to foreign policy and the military, the left gets much more skeptical when it comes to a Republican President dropping bombs.
I always enjoy hearing Wilkerson speak on these issues

You're wrong it did have an effect. It made sure Iraq wasn't as bad as Vietnam.
it has been for the Iraqi's unfortunately...

That wasn't an overthrow of gadaphi but a lynching and it was obscene.

This is based upon the Roman model of government. Roman citizens had tremendous rights. Vassal states were often not extended those rights.
Same with the British model of 15 years ago.
Actually he was pierced with a blade in his anus, that is how he died....that is Ottoman/Islamist style of punishment, by the "freedom fighters" the US had been supporting.
Pierrebrd so did Count Dracula, or Vlad the Impaler.

I wish Colonel Wilkerson was running for President. Property deep in the Southern Hemisphere looks good right about now.

Watching this video on 1/1/2019. Very interesting comparison.

Both of them scare me.

We should do anything possible to us to make people aware of this opportunity!
She's an idiot.
