This was the one that established the Bond formula. The mini adventure in the pre-credits sequence, the outlandish villain, the gadget laden car, the Bond girl with a double entendre for a name, and a henchman with a gimmick. Though it's the Roger Moore films that were the most faithful to this formula.
You can't beat the Roger Moore era for double entrande and silly puns. Some of the funniest movies.
@@sleepyfox8983 that was the great thing about Roger Moore. He realised he wouldn't be able to match Sean Connery's suaveness so he took Bond in a more campy, fun direction
This also started the unpleasant trope of the Bond girl sacrificial lamb. In the first two films, it was Bond's allies who were the victims, and the bad girl in Dr No only got arrested. Goldfinger started the trope of the Bond girl victims and in future films, the writers deliberately write at least one Bond girl in with the intent to kill her off.
@@PungiFungi the sacrificial lamb wasn't new and it wasn't always female. It was Quarrel in the first film, Kerim Bey in the second, Campbell in OHMSS (though I don't think he was named in the film). Female sacrificial lambs in the next three. I don't think there was one in TSWLM. But it was another male (Ferrara) in FYEO. Vijay in Octopussy, Sir Godfrey in AVTAK. A male in TLD, a female in LTK. The only one I can think of in the Brosnan films is Paris. The Craig films started the trope up again. But I think there have been almost as many male lambs as female.

inarguably the QUINTESSENTIAL Bond movie.
I agree. I've never actually considered it the best, but it is the first Bond movie to nail down so many of the formulaic elements that we consider to be quintessential to Bond today.
Though Goldfinger is iconic, I have always considered From Russia With Love as the best Bond movie.

I agree. "From Russia With Love" isn't just a great Bond movie; it can
stand on its own as one of the best secret agent films of the Sixties.
The scene at the Hagia Sophia (with ominous bells) perfectly evokes
a feeling of foreign intrigue.
Also, it's a great ensemble film, with Connery surrounded by a brilliant
supporting cast. Plus, it contains many colorful elements (like Sylvia
Trench and SPECTRE Island) that were disappointingly dropped from
subsequent films.
Same here. GF never was my favourite Bond film. Moreover, I prefer all the Terence Young films (1st DN, 2nd FRWL, 4th TB) over GF (which was 3rd). However, I recognise the value of GF and its influence over Bond film franchise. Btw, my favourite of Connery's is Young's Thunderball, that came just right after Goldfinger, and has both original grittiness, spy thriller, unique style, dark stuff of first 2 films BUT it's already spiced up with Goldfinger and its new formula all over the place. And it's makes a perfect cocktail, a perfect film for me.
15:16 -- Goldfinger explains his plan to the gangsters for the simple joy of bragging about it to them. Later, Bond says he enjoyed Goldfinger's little talk, and Goldfinger beams "So did I." When he reveals how the atomic explosion in Fort Knox will increase the value of his own gold, he relishes teasing the information a bit at a time to an astonished Bond. Even Goldfinger's henchman Kisch, in a cutaway, can be seen enjoying it.
It's called "peer review". You run your plan past some top criminals to see if they can either find some flaws in it or perhaps make suggestions to improve it.
I love "Goldfinger." But when it comes to the Connery era, "From Russia with Love" will always be my favorite Bond (as it was Sir Sean's himself).
From Russia With Love is definitely my favorite of Connery's Bond movies, and probably my favorite overall.

The scene with the lazer. The only way that they could make it was by having a guy with a welding torch under the table. The look on connerys face was probably real 😂

This film was pretty spectacular when it came out. James Bond films were sort of the Star Wars of their day.
I'd actually argue that Terrence Young (Dr. No and FRWL) was a much better action director than Guy Hamilton. The fight scene on the train still holds up today and is filmed so much more creatively than the fight against Oddjob here.
Have to disagree there, personally I think Hamilton's direction is much better.

@@nikolaiquack8548 Just in general I think the scenes are better shot. And If I'm honest, I think the train fight in FRWL is pretty average )hot take I know). Both The Spy Who Love Me and especially Spectre have much better train fights imo. Terrance Young did a fantastic job, but his direction sometimes got a little stale at times for me and I'd be lying if I said there wasn't loads of strong character work or interesting plots in a lot of his films. So overall, I prefer Hamilton.
@@sonnykingcomposer I personally think Hamilton was really good at creating memorable characters/interactions, but less capable at directing action. His action sequences always just felt like „Let's do a lot of wides and some close ups, that should cover it.“ He certainly has his moments, but to me something like Diamonds are Forever is just very poorly done in a lot of ways.
I can see how Young's direction could be considered a bit stale, though.

You're too young to remember but Honor Blackman was the first woman in the TV series "The Avengers" complete with judo skills, punches and gunfights!!
Still, the best looking is Maxwell here.
Even I'm too young to remember, but I watched the show on reruns in the '80s. Honor Blackman was amazing, as was Diana Rigg. I wrote a book about that series in fact.
And Shirley Eaton was also stunning.
Wait until people find out Entwhistle from Last of The Summer Wine is in this as well.

I don’t envy you guys taking these movies on in the modern age. I rate these movie much higher (certainly than Sean) because I grew up on them; watching them from an early age - bank holidays wouldn’t be a proper bank holiday without a classic Bond movie. But though I don’t necessary agree with everything you say, I appreciate and respect your break down and ratings. These movies are difficult to take with hindsight (and after watching the Daniel Craig movies). But to me remain classics, with “From Russia with Love”, being possibly my favourite of all the movies.

Yea, I agree with you there. These films are certainly a product of another era. Sean is hard on them but I get all of his points, I especially thought on this one imparticular Sean's crit that Goldfinger as a villain is a bit meh and strange compared to Red Grant, I would agree with him there... also yes the score on this one is awesome, opening sequence is prob the best of the Conrey's... editing and directing is certainly on the top of the original runs...
Yeah, I agree but you can't shake the affection that was planted when you were a kid. I was just the right age when Diamonds are Forever came out and managed to see it 7 times which was no mean feat in the seventies. Because of when I saw it I still regard it as one of the finest films ever made even though most people would place it as one of the worst Bond films. But Seriously - Charles fkin Gray.

True film fans should have no trouble watching and appreciating great movies from earlier eras, no matter what year they were made, instead of constantly being put off when such films don't neatly conform to everything they expect from modern ones.
John Barry's score for this film is fabulous, and worth listening to outside of the film. The famous song is just one of several highlights. Others include the swinging Miami music straight after the opening credits, and the music that accompanies the laser scene is a masterclass in building tension comparable with the opening scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark when Indy is trying to replace the golden idol with a bag of sand without setting off the booby traps.
our hosts were babbling the whole time but i hope they noticed, but the opening credits over the gold-painted figure with shirley bassey booming on the soundtrack is a great moment in film imho. beautifully done, i've heard it called the first music video....
I think when you watch Goldfinger today, its really hard to put it in the context of its time. We are not only watching it and judging it against all the Bond movies that came after, but also more than half a century of other action adventure movies. The sexism and some of the special affects will seem really dated to us now, and some of characters and dialogue will seem cliched, just because we've also watched all the movies that this movie subsequently influenced over the next 50 years. In 1964, however, Goldfinger was the ultimate escapist action movie of its time, and its hard for us to imagine that. My dad describes queuing up for hours to see it, and then watching open mouthed because he'd never seen anything quite like it before, and when it was over he went straight out and queued up to see it again. Do modern day movies have that impact on us? I'm not so sure? Its generally regarded as one the best Bond movies because it introduced so many of the elements that became cornerstones of the Bond formula for years to come, and you could write a thesis on its influence on popular culture at the time. In my view, in terms of style, it set the standard, and will always be a classic. Having said all of that, is not the best film Sean Connery made that year. The Hill, directed by Sidney Lumet, is an extraordinary movie and a forgotten classic.

Imagine watching Goldfinger at a time when there were no other movies like it. It was a moment in popular culture history like Jaws and Star Wars.

The opening song is also the best James Bond song in any of the films. I remember seeing this as a kid with my parents at the drive-in and that song made a hell of an impression on me then. It's great.
At the time it held a world record for longest note held by a singer. Shirley Bassey had an amazing set of lungs
I think that Goldfinger told the criminals about Operation Grand Slam before killing them because he's a megalomaniac and just has to show people how brilliant he is.
One other thing I think worth mentioning is that the woman, Shirley Bassey, who sang the theme song did a spectacular job.
Bassey also song the themes for Diamonds are Forever & Moonraker.
She's the only singer to do more than 1.

Fun Fact: Gert Frobe, who played Goldfinger, couldn't speak English. All of his lines are dubbed. This was a big part of why this won for sound editing.
English? Man, Gert Fröbe is originally from eastern Germany, he can barely speak german.
@@PaulWinkle They had to speed up the scenes where he spoke to get the mapping right because he spoke his lines phonetically but too slowly. Honestly, the entire thing was remarkable.
1. The commitment to inclusion of an actor that presented the part well but had a language barrier.
2. The technical innovation to make the audio/dialogue work.
This is SUPER progressive for a film made in the 60's - a time when they used to cast hispanics and whites to represent other races (and often quite poorly or insensitively). It really should get talked about more.
This is a low-key remarkable decision on the filmmakers part and a really interesting bit of technical achievement.
@@Matthew-bx5yf It is indeed super interesting, as I had no real knowledge of the technical aspects that made it all work. I always did credit Fröbe for a great performance, because for someone speaking his lines phonetically (which I did know about at least), he had such an ease about him. But I now realize that speeding up the scenes must have really helped to sell that illusion. Credit to the voice-over actor as well. Honestly the whole thing is an impressive accomplishment.
When he's talking to the gangsters about operation grand slam and he shouts "EXCEPT CRIME!", that's his own voice and if you have the Blu-Ray watch the trailer, they didn't dub his voice in the trailer for the scene when Bond is on the laser table.
What remains of his performance is certainly very effective.

Harold Sakata who played Odd Job was from Hawaii and won a silver medal at the 1948 Olympics in weight lifting.

BTW, Harold Sakata genuinely injured himself when Oddjob tried to remove his hat with his hands being burnt. I think Sean also injured himself somehow during the same scene, as he was compensated with a percentage of the profits from the rest of his tenure in the role of Bond.
To the story's credit, in the original book Tilly (the second girl) was actually in the story for a lot longer. She was captured along with Bond and was brought to Fort Knox in the finale, which is where Oddjob killed her.
09:23 for an entire minute I thought "Rey Skywalker" was a clever Bond girl pun for a pilot.
I remember when this came out. Goldfinger was probably the most eagerly anticipated movie ever. And it delivered.
That sound effect when slaps the girl on the butt in the beginning is mixed so loud. 😂
Despite the condescending slap on the arse at the beginning, I really love the way this film takes a jab at sexism by having a strong woman as the co-lead: Honor Blackman, fresh off her wonderful time as an Avengers girl with Patrick Macnee, where she flung guys over her shoulder with expert judo moves. In the book, however, Pussy Galore was a lesbian, and this is only hinted at in the movie.
It’s a double-edged sword, tbh. Honor Blackman is iconic (and indeed a co-lead more than a Bond girl), but that scene where they’re rolling around in the hay is super uncomfortable too.
@@Clairembify To me, it's kind of uncomfortable because it's heavily implied that she's gay, but Bond is just such an incredible man that she "switches sides." But I give it a bit of a break because it was just a matter of sixties perceptions, and they were actually being pretty progressive for having such a character at all.
It should also be noted that in The Avengers, Blackman was particularly chaste when it came to Steed's flirtations. Ostensibly, she was a widow and just still holding a candle for her deceased husband, but there were a lot of implications there as well.

I was interested to see that you noticed that Bond was a passive character for much of the film. How much of the plot resolution was down to plain luck and the actions of other characters rather than of Bond?
His actions have impact though and he manages to survive and outwit the villain several times. I think that's the essence of a spy, deliver imofrmation and survive and ... don't get catched. Well, Bond is not very good at that, but i like that in the early movies he is not a superhero, but a human.
@@gerhardadler3418 Yeah tbh we're so used to Bond almost singlehandedly saving the day, forgetting that he's really just meant to be a spy, and here that's basically all he is.
This was first movie I remeber having action figures, I remember my cousin having OddJob and a neighbor having the car, dam I am old.
I feel like you guys would really enjoy “License to Kill” once you get to it. It’s villain is a lot more grounded into reality.
Unfortunately, nobody else liked it, because it was ugly, nasty, depressing, hostile and icky.
We didn't even like Quantum of Solace because it had the same PLOT as License to Kill.
License to Kill is awesome. It was just way too edgy way too soon after the camp Roger Moore take on Bond. It was really for the Daniel Craig era IMO.
@@tioknight2496 Actually, it came right after Timothy Dalton in “The Living Daylights”, which we liked because he WASN’T a hostile, snarky, unsympathetically loose-cannon crab in that one.

@@ericjanssen394 License to Kill and the Dalton era Bond films seemed joyless. Yeah, the Roger Moore Bonds became too campy. But for me Dalton was too dour. It wasn't until Casino Royale that the producers seem to find the right mix of grittiness and fantasy. BTW, I liked Pierce Brosnan, but he was a good but middle weight Bond. He always seemed to have to huff and puff during the action scenes.
As the series progresses, you'll find that Q is actually clairvoyant/psychic as all the gadgets he gives Bond are used/needed. Eddie Izzard does a great skit on this.
Great reaction guys you summed this film up perfectly I been a Bond fan since the 80s I brought them twice on vhs then on DVD & now blu ray (i wished released cinematic artwork for covers), my favourite of the Sean Connery films is You Only Live Twice.
You can argue about whether it's the best,but I find it the most fun of the early Bonds.
Only James Bond could get two sisters killed within 20 minutes of one another without actually killing them himself.
'The Spy Who Loved Me' has got to be the best for those who don't take Bond that seriously. I'm not a massive Bond fan but that one was the most entertaining I thought. The puns and the stupidness is what it's all about!
The Spy Who Loved Me is one of the best. Because it's the Moore movie that is actually not stupid.

The first Bond I saw in a cinema, and for the nostalgia alone the one I revisit most often. Moore's best take on Bond, I still want a Lotus Esprit, and Jaws when he was lethal. Great summer escapist entertainment.

This movie has probably the best voiceover work in movies.
If you didn't know, the actor playing Goldfinger had his lines voiced over by someone else. The actor apparently had a significant accent and they felt it didn't work, so another actor was hired to voiceover ALL his lines. And it's done so well, you barely notice unless you're looking for it.
How did you guys not talk about the terry cloth hot pants onesie he wore at the pool?!?!? HOW did you fail to comment on that madness?!?!?!?!?
One of, if not thee, greatest Bond movies, with a cracking theme song sung by Dame Shirley Bassey. Great movie, great reaction and great analysis as always boys. Have to say that Honor Blackman (who just died last year) was the greatest (IMHO) 'Bond Girl' of all time - strong, sexy and more than capable - with that name too!

Auric Goldfinger is, in my humble opinion, the best Bond villain. First off, his unusual visage makes him the most physically distinctive villain. The casting director absolutely got it right with Gert Frobe. Second, and most importantly, you feel the contempt he as for 007. The others merely wanted to exterminate Bond because he frustrated their plans. Goldfinger hated Bond because he resented the fact that he could score any chick and Auric had to pay for a woman's company. Goldfinger's attempted castration of Bond via laser was a petty, personal act. He was less concerned about killing James and more concerned about depriving him of his potency. The only other villain that has come close to such pettiness was Largo from Never Say Never Again.

I think Francisco Scaramanga makes a better villain. He's essentially, the anti-Bond. Just as resourceful, just as stylish, just as deadly, had just as great a gadget as any Bond had for the film. Plus, Christopher Lee really sold the character as only he could.

By this point in the series the Bond films were already parodying themselves. It makes for a fun, entertaining ride but takes away from the thriller aspect. Other films of the time, such as The Ipcress File, were a bit smarter and sharper although consequently slower and grittier.
The Bond series has established its mainstream audience and played up to that, becoming a fantasy cinema event rather than even attempting to be remotely realistic. Goldfinger is an excellent example of the early Bond franchise which has constantly adjusted to reflect the state of cinema in general and the wider world, too.

There are more fantastical elements in this one - but, compared to the book (which closely follows the overall plot - including constructing cars out of gold to get them past customs, and melting them down at the other end...) it's not that far off.
Auric Goldfinger is suitably disgusting in the book, as he is in the movie.
And then - more than 20 movies later ... still drawing the crowds (I agree with their decision to wait until the pandemic finished, rather than release the latest one on Netflix last year - because a Bond movie MUST be watched in the cinema!)
@@jazzx251 By 1967 there was a big budget, all-star Bond spoof - the comedy version of Casino Royale starring David Niven, Woody Allen, Peter Sellers and Ursula Andress and many, many more. Bond is such an easy subject to take the mickey out of, as Austin Powers demonstrated. So yes, the official series made jokes about it too, almost from the beginning, and of course the books weren’t exactly serious all the time. The jokes help to both soften and amplify the violence and the more dramatic moments, I think, but it’s difficult to get just right.
Sometimes the jokes went a bit too far - especially during the Roger Moore era - and got cringey, but I’d rather a bit of humour than the too serious tone of some of the recent Bond films.
I agree with your rating so far; the next one, "Thunderball" is my fave. Also: they always kill off at least one of the Bond girls every movie, so that's something to get used to! 2.) Exposition dumps = go to get more popcorn! 3.) 1964, The Beatles conquered the world, and James Bond, too. England was kicking ass!
One of the best Bond films, no question, but the Pussy Galore scene is pretty grim, and only gets worse over the years.
The laser scene - typical Bond villain - he is my sworn enemy - I have him now....but I can't bare to watch. Austin Powers movie parody's this kind of thing
Legend goes that Ian Fleming based Goldfinger on the famous architect Ernő Goldfinger, a key member of the Modernist architectural movement and most prominently remembered for designing residential tower blocks. Fleming had been among the objectors to the pre-war demolition of the cottages in Hampstead that were removed to make way for Goldfinger's house at 2 Willow Road. Goldfinger consulted his lawyers when Goldfinger was published in 1959, which prompted Fleming to threaten to rename the character 'Goldprick', but eventually decided not to sue. Fleming's publishers agreed to pay his costs and gave him six free copies of the book

I first saw this on ABC & recorded it back in the early 80's. Watched it dozens of times.That opening sequence was cut. The broadcast began with the Titles. I never knew about it until I bought the movie in 88 or 89.
Yeah,ABC was notorious for hacking movies to bits,especially the Bonds.

James Bond approves of this edit
When I was young, my favorite Bond movies were ''Goldfinger'', ''The Spy Who Loved Me'' (which is still one of my favorites) and ''Moonraker'', the latter I consider now as the worst, but has the best (talkin' 'bout) opening sequence. But nowadays my favorites are ''On Her Majesty's Secret Service'' (imo the best Bond movie, although not the best Bond performance, but still, George Lazenby is quite underrated), ''For Your Eyes Only'', ''Licence to Kill'' and as I mentioned before ''The Spy Who Loved Me'', and I love ''Skyfall'' too.
Moonraker is at least fun and structured well. The worst is hands down The Man With the Golden Gun
I thought Moonraker was good until they got into space.
@@ThreadBomb the thing about Moonraker is, most of it is competently put together... but that is also because both it and The Spy Who Loved Me are both based on the same book. They never intended to make Moonraker,... until a little thing called "Star Wars" happened.
It even said "James Bond will return in For Your Eyes Only" at the end of The Spy Who Loved Me. Though I am not sure if Eyes Only would have worked as well being made in 1978 instead of 1980
16:54 fun fact that’s the filmmaker‘s way of making fun of Goldfinger‘s plan in the book because in the book his plan was to just rob Fort Knox but the filmmakers I thought that be impossible so they came up with a new motivation for breaking into Fort Knox.
Goldfinger is a 10, for me. Best intro, song, (by best singer), best outrageous name for Bond girl, best car, best henchman-odd job- best death for archvillan, best locale, most imaginative nefarious scheme, best production design ( that elaborate set of Goldfinger's). Adds up to best bond movie all time, I say.
This is not the best. None of the Connery Bond. He isnt believable enough for an agent. He is too small and thin.
Best story, best Bond, best villain and best intro theme ever, all of this are united in the same movie, called:

Hope you guys are feeling better! This is a classic and was my favourite when I was a kid but now it’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. It’s a cracking film though and I think in hindsight it’s nice to take a break from the SPECTRE plots and have a standalone adventure like this. The films only get bigger from here so it’ll be interesting to see what you make of the rest!

The bit where Pussy says “You can take off the charm, I’m immune” has a whole new meaning when you learn that in the Goldfinger book, she’s a lesbian, and Bond pretty much forces himself on her.
And audiences were perfectly ok with that I guess back in the 60s.
Being gay was illegal in those days, so I suppose they thought he was doing her a favour.

@@SpaceCattttt One of the inspirations for Pussy Galore was Jamaican heiress Blanche Blackwell, a friend and possible mistress to Fleming. She lived to be 104 and passed away in 2017.
She was a leader of a gang in the book called the cement mixers. When I read the book, I picture a young Ida Lupino.
I went to the vicinity of the filming location of this film, the Furka Pass in Switzerland, in 2018. It is hard to believe that the hotel is still there even after all these years. Switzerland is truly a time capsule.
Goldfinger has the best pace. "From Russia with Love" has aged fatally and now it makes me weighed heavily. I'm afraid to see "Never Say Never Again", which was also one of my favorites, I don't think how I'll have aged!, it was Connery's return.
It's also unofficial and so not canon. FRWL still holds up for me and I feel like it's the best one (but not my fav)
I think Never Say Never Again gets a bad rap, and is actually one of the better Connery Bonds! You just have to get past the off-brand opening and badly recorded theme song.
Never Say Never Again, with a bit of tweaking, would be perfect for today's videogame age ...

Since you are claiming to do all of the James Bond films please remember to watch/review Casino Royal (1967). It was the first of the James Bond books to be written. David Niven, Peter Sellers, Woody Allen, Orson Wells, Ursula Andress and Joanna Pettit along with a host of cameos really do make this over long, bloated to the point of exploding 1960's over the top piece of comedic filmmaking in fact worth your time.
I will continue to take flack for promoting this film but it is in fact a James Bond film.

@@ThreadBomb Yes, it absolutely is, which is part of what makes it necessary to watch. It comes oh so close to "so bad it's good" and yet it still misses the mark. But it is a perfect example of the whole over-the-top 1960's filmmaking. Edit out 35+/- minutes and you could almost have a decent film. Probably a rather short film. With some rewrites.
And yet I still love it. I saw it on original release and I thought it was grand.
That is a parody movie! It doesn't count because it had no intention of being a 'Bond' film, it had the intention of making fun of Bond. What next, are you going to suggest "Operation Kid Brother" starring Neil Connery as James Bond's younger brother?

Agreed with Goldfingers unneccesary plot reveal to the gangsters. Only there to tell the audience what he's doing. Still, an absolute classic Bond film, one of the best. 4.5 stars

Roger Moore is probably my favorite Bond, primarily because he is the one I grew up with. And yet...I also think the first two Moore films were absolutely dreadful, and were by far the worst in the entire series. And it pains me to say this as someone who has had a lifelong crush on Jane Seymour, although she was probably the best thing about Live and Let Die (apart from the song). Golden Gun has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

@@Johnny_Socko It's odd that Moore had more of a cynical edge as The Saint. His Bond is more frivolous, more camp. But he was a good Bond and I understand why he is the favorite for many people.
I'm more looking forward to George Lazenby. Not so much for him as Bond, but his film specifically

Goldfinger is one of my favorite Bond films along with Live and Let Die with Rodger Moore. Great film too.
props to you both for sticking with these... totally different time and it shows even though I grew up on these and love Sean Connery. Diamonds are forever and Never say Never Again are the biggest piss takes but still good fun
I think NSNA gets a bad rap. People hate it without even watching it.
Diamonds did some groundbraking work (for the whole movie industrie) It gave us Mr Wint and Mr Kidd. Two killers, happen to be gay. Its written with such a "normal" tone, great job for the 1970s and well played by both of the actors. Bruce Glover aka Mr Wint is perfect. The way he glared at Kidd in the plane, pure gold.

In case anyone doubts the stake of the golf game, £5000 in 1964 is worth over £103k today. Goldfinger just bought a house plus change for Bond.

I agree that Goldfinger is the best bond film since it started the opening scene then the theme song and all that but my personal favorite bond film is Goldeneye. Pierce Brosnan’s first and best James Bond movie.

Alfred Hitchcock North by Northwest it is considered the first James Bond film, but without James Bond, much of the look and style of the Connery ones came right from this movie.
Also you should check out the,OSS117 films there are 2 and they are the,French James Bond, the actor looks just like a young Sean Connery. They do lots of Bond references.
My favorite Bond intro. The movie has a bunch of odd technical errors and editing mistakes, especially the last couple of minutes.

Two things about Goldfinger. Ian Fleming named the villain after an architect that he really disliked. (Erno Goldfinger , apparently a horrible person). They filmed the scene with James Bond being lasered by having a man under the table with an acetylene torch burning through it. He couldn’t see were Sean Connery was. I don’t think Sean Connery needed much acting skills to seem nervous
Dr No and Russia feels very dated and ordinary although they do have some classic bond momemts/tropes. Dr No's lair and train rides (and S.P.E.C.T.E.R.)

Also no one ever points out the millions in research to adapt the Aston Martin and it achieved precisely squat. He used every gadget and was just as caught as if he gave up without the car chase.
Much of James Bond hasn't aged well - the heart of the movies is that women want him, and men want to be him. The closest thing to a spy/gadget/adventure/fun/borderline silly James Bond movie now (and I'm old enough I feel I'm entitled to an opinion), is The Kingsman - The Secret Service with Taron Egerton. The spirit of James Bond is alive and well there.
You are so wrong - their are evil billionaires going into space (well - not really) and building super-yachts - unopposed by any government that they fund.
The Bond series is more relevant than ever.

Like you said You’re entitled to your opinion but If you’ve read the books you’ll know that he’s not and will never be pc and he shouldn’t be Ian Fleming sort of described him as a hitman thug which Sean Connery played to a T and it’s funny because Fleming wasn’t really sold on Sean Connery in dr no but FRWL won him over
