I came to UA-cam looking for this and it was the first video I found. I realized I could release my old wheels by hacksawing only the outboard side of the rivet, and now they’re off. Rest of the suitcase is in great condition, glad this can be fixed.

My suitcase is different, but I still love this video. I love this video anyway-I hate “throw it away and buy new” thinking, and this is filmed perfectly! 👏
@@XDIY Haven't actually done it, I think I have to cut the bolt as well. My wheels are smaller ones that jut out and swivel 360 degrees so I may check on other tutorials to confirm my next steps
Would have been easier to get the axle out had you cut through it on the outer side of the wheel. Great video. No heads or shoulders in the way, perfect close ups, perfect lighting, no shots of banana fingers fumbling in darkness. just clarity all around. No lengthy descriptions of what a wheel is or demonstrations of how a wheel turns around. No side track to show how the bend in and allen key is very useful. Just an all out, very very helpful video. Can't wait to get my hacksaw out. Thank you so much.
Thank you Martin for the detailed comment! I'm happy you find it useful and that you liked the way I made the video. I'm learning from the viewers comments all the time. :)
Bravo! You did a great job with this video. Thank you. I’m not sure I have time to do this before I leave on my trip but really appreciated your video, great close-ups, adorable and dramatic slow motion tossing of the broken parts! Made me laugh.
Very simple and easy to follow video. Wish I had followed it as I figured it would be easier to remove the wheel assemblies from the suitcase first and use a jigsaw, and then a drill, and ended up destroying one wheel assembly.
I guess that it's possible somehow but I don't think it will be so simple.. the wheels type is different (rotatable), and you also need a good base to attach all wheels...
Another pro tip to refresh a bag after fixing the wheels: Gently sponge off your entire bag. Any frayed edges from overuse can be burned away by holding a lighter in your hand and gently running the flame across the frays.
Thanks for sharing. Seems it can be done easier with some of the suitcases which only require unscrewing instead of sawing off the broken wheel. Saying that, its not $10 replacement - its $10 (or more, depending on type) plus about 2 hours or more of time searching for right wheels, measuring, getting right tools, put it all in place, etc. Which for most people would be worth more than $100 it would cost to just buy a new suitcase (and it will be new). So... unless you simply find it entertaining and enjoyable sawing off wheels or earn less than $20/hr...
Thanks for the comment :) I understand what you mean but this is a DIY channel... you can say the same about each project or fix that I share. For each DIY project that I do (if it's fixing a leak or building a storage room), I start with research for the best solution, I need to buy materials, to work few hours or days. Of course that not always it's pays off in time, but there is great satisfaction in doing that. BTW, Initially I didn't plan to to record this luggage fix, and later I thought if I should publish it on my channel... I thought that it's not related to the other things I share / too easy... Eventually, it became the second most viewed video with views approaching 300K which I never expected, so it turns out that people search for it and that's what matters, that it helps some viewers :)
Buying a new suitcase doesn't protect you from another set of super cheap roles that are falling apart after some months (or directly after the refund date). I'd put these roles on a new suitcase as it's so much more comfortable, quieter. And why not do sth for the environment by repairing your old stuff instead of ditching the complete suitcase?
It is a beautiful video for what it is. I don’t own most of those tools. And I need to either watch it over, or need someone to walk me through. We don’t all have the same skills. I’m sure for people who fo repairs and have a workshop or do other repairs, this must be a great video to watch and do. It’s ok; you are providing awesome video approach for an audience that is not a beginner level. (I can cook the way you can repair. Haha.)
I don't remember exactly, but it was couple of minutes, maybe 2 minutes. It depends on your blade quality, and how fast you work... anyway, the metal isn't that hard.
This is so weird, I was thinking if I should even bother looking at UA-cam for replacing my suitcase wheels because it I don't ever see anyone with my suitcase and here the second video is Itzik fixing my exact Israeli suitcase..

There are several ways to do it, depending on the wheels type. There is not much danger in using the saw here... but you're welcome to tell your way to it. I would love to learn 😊
I know, but I think that the way I did it is easier... For removing the whole wheel assy I need to drill out the 'headless screws' of it and anyway later I need to cut or drill out the wheel screw...
I always wonder if I should add music or not. In this case I thought that it's too boring without it.... but I learn from the viewes comments... Thanks 🙂
The music is fitting. Some slow licks on a guitar, perfect fit for the kind of sustained attention you’ll need to give to this project. And if someone doesn’t like the music, they can turn the volume down since it’s clearly you’re doing a video without a voiceover.
I didn't find this helpful at all. Some verbal explanation of what's being done and why, and not showing things at 10x normal speed that we need to look at carefully and understand would have made this much better. As it is, it didn't help me at all.
I'm sorry that you didn't find it helpful... I think that the process in the video is pretty simple. Does it matter if I'm cutting with the saw in regular speed or X10? Some parts are shown much more slower, where I show some important steps. Anyway, I respect every comment and try to learn for the next videos. Thank you.
