I do like these drone videos, but Boston is one city best seen on foot, the disorienting way the streets make it fun to explore. I lived there for 4 years, back in the 80s, could still get lost while exploring. It's very unique and old world feeling.
i grew up here (2 minutes away from the aquarium right behind the Marriott) and boy did you nail it all you needed was a walkthrough of the north end and it wouldve been perfect :) amazing none the less
Wow this is truly awesome scenery of Boston! :) Well captured! Thumbs up from me and excellent video! :) Well done ! I love flying my Q500 for some aerial footage! Greetings from Ireland! :)
Drone Girl Thanks Drone Girl! I checked out your channel and you have some very awesome shots! What a beautiful country especially nice for aerial footage :)
I don't have any grading tutorial video yet (I will try and get one up) but what I did was apply a LUT (Osiris M31 R.709 LUT), used RGB curves to even out the color somewhat, and levels to control the contrast. My settings for filming are Gamma DR sharpness -8, contrast -4 , saturation -1 , and Master Black Pedestal Level +10. This isn't quite as flat as a LOG profile but it is very close. I used a Nikkor 50mm mostly around f2.8 and f5.6, iso 250, and shutter 1/50.
No problem Timothy! You should :) It is a great performer in both video and photo. If you want to see a lot of work others have done join the NX1 facebook pages. So many great shooters from around the world post awesome work they have shot with the NX1. Plus a lot of tech talk haha
David Hill Thanks David! That is very much appreciated! Your video's have also inspired me to move forward at starting my own freelance company (weddings, commercials, interviews, etc) and I have learned a lot about good compositions, editing, grading, etc through your videos!
Arthur Taylor I appreciate you watching my videos. I'm still learning and trying to get better. If you're looking to work together let me know. I have multiple wedding dates where I could use an extra person. Email me davidh977@gmail.com
David Hill That would be awesome and I definitely will! My work schedule is really opening up through the summer so I should have a good amount of time for shooting.
Jose Oviedo Thanks Jose! I believe this one should work but you must use manual EF glass with aperture control. www.amazon.com/Fotasy-NXEF-Samsung-Mirrorless-Adapter/dp/B00BTRO0RC
Great video, but a question... macroblocking in the sky at :18 ... I'm trying to figure out how avoid it with this camera.. is there anything to be done in the settings?
+Jeffrey Whitehead Thanks Jeffrey, I think the reason that happened was because I set my master black pedestal way too high (+14) at the time. The best way to avoid getting that problem is to not go past +5 in order to help the codec stay together (8 bit unfortunately always has minor issues with banding/macroblocking). This was early in my days of using the camera now I only go past +5 when shooting indoors or on a partly cloudy day.
markr041 I used a LUT that is more on the blue side. I was going to correct it using rgb curves but I kind of like the look it gives so I left it alone.
Don't ask me why but your video gives me chills ! It's a beautiful and poetic video, the music is great ! I'm gonna buy a NX1 in a few days. If one day your coming to Paris tell me, it would be great to make something together ! :)
+Sacha Luisada Thank you so much Sacha! I am glad my video gives you such awesome emotion! I know you will love shooting on the NX1 and I hope one day I can come to Paris and we can shoot together. :)
C4K or UHD @24fps? I don't know how you got the panning so smooth. Even with a fluid head on a heavy tripod my NX1 has a lot of stuttering through the panning motion. Because of this I have to shoot 30fps. Truly some of the best NX1 video in youtube. Excellent work.
hello friend, the Samsung NX1 continuous records how long? It supports continuous recording how many? In these continuous recordings, the chamber is heated and off? if it shuts down, cuato you need recovery time? did you use any codec, movie style, pretset for color video? thanks for the help
Thanks Flyfisher Film! The ND filter I got was on the cheaper side (around $45) and the thread size was 58mm (for nikon). They range from $40-$200+ depending on the brand and the filter thread size of your lens. You should definitely pick one up in the future they really help on sunny days.
Thanks for the video post, very nice! I received my NX1 last week and was wondering where you purchased the h.265 conversion software? I read in one of your comments below that it was Rocky Mountain video converter but I can't seem to find their site.
Ricardo Moyano Thanks Ricardo! My settings were UHD 24fps, Gamma DR -1 saturation, -6 contrast, -7 sharpness, and master black pedestal +12. I was usually at f/5.6 to f/8 for most of the shots and 1/60 shutter, iso 100.
Arthur Taylor f 5.6-8 in evening? wow, that's is something... When you said you used Nikor 50mm f1.8, I thought you were actually at f2.8 or something like that, because naturally you open up your iris when its getting dark, now I see you shot at f stop which is typically used for landscaped and day shooting. Really impressed by overall image quality. It's so SHARP and DETAILED. Kudos.
Thanks Skirmantas! I shot the night shots at around f/5.6 to f/6 at about 1200 iso. The NX1 is no A7S in low light, but it can hold its own and in my opinion the internal 4k h.265 quality in good light can compete with the big boys :)
Anthony Frans Hi Anthony, I use Adobe After Effects to edit my videos and Adobe Media Encoder to render and export my videos. I always render to H.264, 180Mbps, 24p in Adobe Media Encoder. It is slower but for me usually better quality and no dropped frames.
Arthur, awesome video! I ordered the NX1 and Pilotfly H1 last week. Should be here this Thursday. Which Nikon adapter did you use? I've been looking for one.
Thanks man! That's awesome congrats on the new gear! I am currently saving up for the Pilotfly and the Tascam DR-70D. I use the Fotasy adapter but you will need a lens with an apertue ring because its just a dummy adapter but the price is nice. www.amazon.com/Fotasy-NXNK-Samsung-Mirrorless-Adapter/dp/B003JFMRQS
I shot with these camera settings - Gamma DR - Saturation -1, Contrast -4, Sharpness -8 and Master Black Pedestal at +10. I used the M31 LUT from the Osiris LUT pack and adjusted the rest with curves.
holy shit.... honestly, this looks like movie quality. I'm amazed, and impressed! What's the price of the nx1, how good is it picture-taking wise, and which lens did you use to achieve that?
The Dead Immortal Thanks The dead Immortal! Right now you can get it for $1,300 (body only) which is a good deal considering I paid $1,800 in November (yes I am very impatient lol). I used the Nikor 50mm f/1.8 and Fotasy Nikon to NX adapter ($15) for every shot.
This is just, quite simply, amazing. Due to budget reasons though, I'd have to go with the Sony a6000. That was the camera I planned to go with from the start, but after I accidentally clicked on a Samsung NX1 video showcase, and landed on this video, I just simply fell in love with this. I just checked out your channel out of curiosity, and I have to say, you're doing a fantastic work. Keep it up! They were a real treat to watch on my smart TV! :D
Van Pham No, unfortunately I was lugging around the big tripod all day because my lighter tripod is totally broken. I am saving up for the Pilotfly H1 so I can hopefully ditch the tripod for a bit and practice some movement in my shots again :)
I use a Fotasy NK to NX adapter but it won't work for your lens. You will need to buy an NK to NX adapter with an aperture ring/control on it. I don't know any off the top of my head but they have some good ones out there on amazon. Good luck!
+mircea teglas It is great for photos! 6.5k RAW files have a ton of room to push in post. In my opinion the NX1 is the best overall hybrid out there for the price.
Yes because the lens I used had an aperture ring on it. If you plan on using a lens without an aperture ring you will need to find an adapter that has aperture control.
Hey Arthur, I am getting lot of moire when doing pan shots of skylines. I do not see much in yours. Any tips here? Also, are u shooting UHD or full 4k? Some reviews suggest UHD is better. Pls lemme know. Thanks
I find what helps with that is shooting at a wider aperture like f/2.8-f/5.6. I noticed when shooting at f/8 or f/11 I saw moire a lot more than when I widened the aperture.
Good morning Arthur! This is Pedro de Lachiondo, Head of Visuals from luis vidal + architects. this is effing amazing man. Love it.

Arthur Taylor grading tutorial and what picture profile for this camera?
I don't have any grading tutorial video yet (I will try and get one up) but what I did was apply a LUT (Osiris M31 R.709 LUT), used RGB curves to even out the color somewhat, and levels to control the contrast. thanks man, really considering buying this camera

nice view of the city
Rob Oliver Thanks Rob!
Thanks. Taylor. Great advice.
Jose Oviedo No problem!
Very nice footage!
Thanks Draganz!
Great job once again! I've been trying to get out and shoot more with mines and this is very inspiring.
David Hill Thanks David! That is very much appreciated! Your video's have also inspired me to move forward at starting my own freelance company (weddings, commercials, interviews, etc) and I have learned a lot about good compositions, editing, grading, etc through your videos!

Arthur Taylor Ok just send me and email
JUST WOW!
jorge camacho Thanks Jorge!
I love it my friend :D
Eivind Døhlen Thank you so much Eivind!
Taylor nice video, it possible use canon cinema lens, like 85mm EF mount. Thanks.
Jose Oviedo Thanks Jose! I believe this one should work but you must use manual EF glass with aperture control. www.amazon.com/Fotasy-NXEF-Samsung-Mirrorless-Adapter/dp/B00BTRO0RC

amazing! what tool did you do for the color grading??
Alex Lem Thanks Alex! I used VisionColor's Osiris LUTS and edited in After Effects.
Il ike the DR but I have been to Boston many times. I do not remember it was all tinted teal. What was the idea behind this color grading?
markr041 I used a LUT that is more on the blue side. I was going to correct it using rgb curves but I kind of like the look it gives so I left it alone.
markr041 just a cinematic grade is all. It looks good.
Don't ask me why but your video gives me chills ! It's a beautiful and poetic video, the music is great ! I'm gonna buy a NX1 in a few days. If one day your coming to Paris tell me, it would be great to make something together ! :)

Amazing! What is this lut?
Thanks Gokhan! I used Osiris LUTS from Vision Color :)
Arthur Taylor thank you so much:)
Gokhan Bartu Yüksel No problem Gokhan! :)

it's probably post production crop panning.

did you use any codec, movie style, pretset for color video?

nice man!
Andrew Linga Thanks Andrew!
Is that just a regular 50mm with a cheap NX adapter? That looks super good
ill Magnetic Yes sir! Thanks!
Nice video. I also have the NX1 and I love the camera. But I don´t have 9 stop ND filter.
Thanks Flyfisher Film! The ND filter I got was on the cheaper side (around $45) and the thread size was 58mm (for nikon). They range from $40-$200+ depending on the brand and the filter thread size of your lens. You should definitely pick one up in the future they really help on sunny days.
Arthur Taylor Thanks for the tips. I will pick up one ND filter very soon.
Great job. How did you convert the file from h265? What settings? Thanks.
John Jay Thanks John! I convert using Rocky Mountains Video Converter and my settings are Prores HQ, resolution same as source, speed ultrafast.
Arthur Taylor Thanks. I'm new to NX1, have been testing with Wondershare and RMmovieConverter. Amazing results, really impressed with this camera.
Thanks for the video post, very nice! I received my NX1 last week and was wondering where you purchased the h.265 conversion software? I read in one of your comments below that it was Rocky Mountain video converter but I can't seem to find their site.
Thanks Ron, I think this link should work www.mydiyworld.net/?p=1805
Are there any active adapters that will allow all functions, f-stop, autofocus, to be automatic?
No
the color grade reminds me of the movie kick ass
Color grading of this video is definitevely professional
+Fabio Palma Thank you Fabio!
Really great!! Gamma DR? Settings?
Ricardo Moyano Thanks Ricardo! My settings were UHD 24fps, Gamma DR -1 saturation, -6 contrast, -7 sharpness, and master black pedestal +12. I was usually at f/5.6 to f/8 for most of the shots and 1/60 shutter, iso 100.
Arthur Taylor Thanks for sharing Arthur! ...Black +12 wow! ...Bravo!
Ricardo Moyano No problem :)
Arthur Taylor f 5.6-8 in evening? wow, that's is something... How can i license this video? I am starting a small business and i would like to you use some of this footage for my small website.
Kacheko Go for it!
How come nothing is blurred? Did you not use a lens?
Hey Henry, I used a 50mm and 16mm but most everything was at f/5.6 or f/8 aperture which is why everything looks so in focus.
Recorded with old lens nikon 50 1.8 ?“
hi bro just want to know what you used to export the videos because i can't get them to work in adobe premiere,
Anthony Frans Hi Anthony, I use Adobe After Effects to edit my videos and Adobe Media Encoder to render and export my videos. I always render to H.264, 180Mbps, 24p in Adobe Media Encoder. It is slower but for me usually better quality and no dropped frames.
wow thanks alot bro your a life saver, was struggling to import the videos
Anthony Frans No problem man! I hope that helped.
hey sorry to bother bru,i keep trying to export, took the video in 4k too,but just volume coming through
Arthur, awesome video! I ordered the NX1 and Pilotfly H1 last week. Should be here this Thursday. Which Nikon adapter did you use? I've been looking for one.

please share how is this grade and what was your camera setting color profile?
I shot with these camera settings - Gamma DR - Saturation -1, Contrast -4, Sharpness -8 and Master Black Pedestal at +10. I used the M31 LUT from the Osiris LUT pack and adjusted the rest with curves.
holy shit....
honestly, this looks like movie quality. I'm amazed, and impressed!

The Dead Immortal Thanks I really appreciate that! You still made a wise choice the A6000 is very nice hybrid as well for a good price.
+Arthur Taylor Any camera in your hands will produce magical images, Good work. This video/grading/panning etc the and music make it surreal
Thank you very much for the kind words Krishna! I feel if given the right camera and location we can all make excellent films! :)
did you use a travel tripod for this? i can't imagine myself lugging one around on trips
Van Pham No, unfortunately I was lugging around the big tripod all day because my lighter tripod is totally broken. I am saving up for the Pilotfly H1 so I can hopefully ditch the tripod for a bit and practice some movement in my shots again :)
hi! can you tell me what adaptor did you use for the nikon lens? this will work with a 24-70 f2.8 from nikon to? thank you
I use a Fotasy NK to NX adapter but it won't work for your lens. You will need to buy an NK to NX adapter with an aperture ring/control on it. I don't know any off the top of my head but they have some good ones out there on amazon. Good luck!

+mircea teglas It is great for photos! 6.5k RAW files have a ton of room to push in post. In my opinion the NX1 is the best overall hybrid out there for the price.
what is the song...it sounds familiar? Also, what program did you use to make this whole video? Nice vid btw
Were you able to adjust aperture or anything using the nx adapter?
Yes because the lens I used had an aperture ring on it. If you plan on using a lens without an aperture ring you will need to find an adapter that has aperture control.
Did you shoot in raw ?
No, this video was shot in 4k 24p H.265. Unfortunately, the NX1 can't shoot video in RAW.
Hey Arthur,
I am getting lot of moire when doing pan shots of skylines. I do not see much in yours. Any tips here?

ok will try - thanks
+Sarthak Mishra No problem! I was shooting in UHD btw (4k is more cinematic but a tad softer).
Did you use an adapter for the lens?
Yes I used the Fotasy Nikon to NX adapter and it only cost 15 dollars.
It's indeed an high quality video and i hope you will work together with Yuri
+Fabio Palma Thank you Fabio! I hope one day that would be possible!
can i buy this camera from you ?
Also, just out of curiousity- why did you shoot at 1/60 if you were at 24fps?
I shot at 1/60 to reduce motion blur a bit and also the sun/clouds were crazy that day so I was kind of all over the place with the shutter speed.
What type of adapter did you use
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003JFMRQS/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1450636749&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX118_SY170_QL70&keywords=nikon+to+nx+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=41Ye2ImpYrL&ref=plSrch
Fotasy Nikon to NX adapter ($15 amazon)
+Galeano Productions Yes the Nikkor 50mm has an aperture ring so I just use that.
Is it an active or passive adapter?
Passive
