Explore Ribeira Brava, one of the most laid back and best places to visit on the island. It makes an ideal day trip from Funchal, but is a great base for seeing more of the island. Are you planning to go to Madeira this year? Drop by and let us know...
Thanks Yvonne & Mike ☺ I've only ever set foot once in Ribeira Brava on a coach tour with Windsor Travel back in September 2017 on my first ever visit to Madeira, while we were doing a west side day tour of the island, which included lunch at Porto Moniz. We didn't stop for long & I didn't realise there was so much to see in the town which is why I haven't been back, so thank you for opening my eyes! When did you film it by the way as it's been weeks since I gazed upon such a lovely blue sky?! By the way my new vlog out tomorrow (Sunday) at 9pm will be heavily influenced by your ongoing theme, with the second half almost heart attack inducing lol! 🤣🏔 Much as I am tempted to visit Madeira in early January for €30, the problem is the return journey which is a week later as flights are weekly rather than twice weekly to Dublin, so it'd be too much time off, but never say never! I hope your weekend is going well & at least the temperature is more favourable today in Ol' Blighty & Ireland! 🤗
Hi Rue, we filmed it in September this year. It's surprisingly not far from Lagoa do Lugar de Baixo and Ponta do Sol, so it can be nice to combine them all in a day's drive. We watched your video - you did well on that hike - good to see you're really getting to your former self (speaking of which, Yvonne said to tell you she watched one of your very first vlogs - the TV interview you did. She wants to know how is your Bangla coming on now? )
@LivingWalks Thanks for watching my last video, the one which directly follows on from it is out at 9pm this evening (Sunday) 😊 It's hard to believe I was on ATN Bangla for that interview back in February 2010! They wouldn't allow me to speak the Sylheti variant of Bengali which I'm fluent in since my heritage is from the Sylhet region of Bangladesh, but it sure came in useful while in Lisbon, Porto & even the odd part of Funchal! They said the majority of viewers wouldn't understand it, yet I thought that was quite patronising as every Bangladeshi I've met understands Sylheti for the most part as it's mutually intelligible with mainstream Bengali, so in the end they requested that I speak English which I thought was peculiar! Moreover the presenter's native tongue was Sylheti! Even though mainstream Bengali can be a struggle for me at times I can still speak it, but it doesn't flow as well as Sylheti. By the way you'll find most of the curry house in the UK Bangladeshi owned & run & most of those will be from the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. Thanks again my lovely friends 🤗
Good question MA, well being the capital, Funchal is a good base because it's so well-connected by bus, especially if you're staying in Zona Velha (the old town), which is close to the bus station. Ribeira Brava is s good base for hiking the Levada do Norte, one of Madeira's largest levadas and some others, but if it were me I'd go for Funchal!

Thanks for sharing. Had to push out trip this year.
Hoping for 2025.
If it happens, I may never leave.
Ha ha, It's a hard place to leave for sure. Hope that trip happens for you Johnny!
At the end of this video, I wished there was more! But I guess I have to wait to be on the next trip with you! Thanks so much! : )
Hey how are you? There's more to the town, definitely. We're back there shortly so I'm sure we'll be filming...
Thanks Yvonne & Mike ☺
