Nobody had or has that smooth sexy swagger that Dean Martin had.. plus his humor & livability all in one. He just makes you happy watching and or listening to him.. thank you for posting these. I loved watching his show every week. He also was great in the movies. LEGEND
I recommend a book by Lee Hale who was a very important behind the scenes on dean's show. It is tiled Behind the Dean Martin Show. Excellent book. Lots of insight.❤
Dean was my favorite show on Thursday night. He was so smooth Orson was great telling us about all the shows he was doing in the studio from floor to floor.
To know him is to love him- Dean Martin. He’ll always be remembered. Thank you to all’s who concerns, included UA-cam for makes this possible, bringing this show back to us/the public can forever enjoy. Good health in 2024.
OMG, That was hilarious when Dean jumped up on top of the Piano to slit on it, and it busted underneath him in many pieces!!!!! Absolutely hilarious, and I'm really loving it, laughing like hell. : )
Dean seeing the doctor he said he has'nt been feeling his self. No pain. Call wife (buzz). No chart on the wall . checking sight. Elephants suffering element. Only mice.
DEAN MARTIN, YOU ARE JUST ADORABLE! THAT ROUTINE YOU DID WITH JULIET PROUSE WAS JUST MARVELOUS! I ONLY WISH IT HAD BEEN ME SINGING AND DANCING WITH YOU WHEN I WAS TWENTY FIVE YEARS OLD!
This is it folks. Life is not a rehearsal. Who knew that Dean would be dead and gone by now? So enjoy today. Tomorrow may never come, or if it comes, you may not be in it. Such is life. It is One Life.
Miss you Dean, it's Christmas Eve, 2023. Watching your TV programs, seems like old times! I don't believe that I could ever grow tired of those shows. Your personality comes through the camera and boy were you ever sexy and handsome! Jeannie was one lucky woman! RIP forever!
I absolutely adore those old radio shows like Orson was describing. I love to listen to the Martin and Lewis Show and the Shadow and all those wonderful old radio shows any time. It is a real shame that there aren't more stations doing those now days.
Martin Lewis If you mean few stations are airing the original shows from radio's golden era, you can find them on several stations coast-to-coast, both terrestrial and Internet feeds. If you mean it's a shame nobody is producing new scripted radio shows, I agree, but it's a lost art. "The Adventures of Harry Nile" is the last one I know of, and it just didn't work. Same thing with the "Twilight Zone" audio dramas. Fun, but just a bit off, partially because they rehashed television scripts and the late, great Rod Serling was long gone. Elliott Lewis, Norman Corwin, and others correctly noted (I recommend listening to their interviews with John Dunning and/or Chuck Schaden online) that radio acting is a lost art, especially done well, much more nuanced than what is required for film or television. Himan Brown, though, pulled it off with good, if uneven, episodes of the "CBS Radio Mystery Theater" from 1974-82, as did Elliott Lewis for the "Sears/Mutual Radio Theater" during roughly that same period. But both came from a radio background and were helped for awhile by the '50s nostalgia boom in the 1970s. Advertisers eventually became skittish -- Sears even dropped its sponsorship of Lewis's ambitious program. And, sadly, attention spans have now dwindled to about eight minutes, maybe less, even among older adults. The BBC still produces a bunch of well-crafted scripted radio, though. Nothing beats the "theater of the mind," that's for sure!
Well put. That is exactly what I meant. I am glad to see that someone else understands and appreciates the art of radio drama. So many people now days do not, it;s true. One of the few things I have found that were like that at all in the last decade was the radio drama version of 'The Screw Tape Letters' which I thought was fairly well done. Thank you for the reply, its good to know that some one else understands where I am coming from.
and don't forget about "The Whistler" That was on West Coast Time, that was a Radio Show that was on the same style as "The Shadow" On East Coast Time.
You can still get those Classic Radio Shows on UA-cam. You just have to go to Classic Vintage Radio Shows, and put in the one you want. There are a huge assortment of those shows. The Whistler & The Shadow & The Private Eye Investigator Shows, like Philip Marlowe, Etcetera. I could go on & on. They are all Fantastic!
Dean and Jimmy Stewart on the piano. How did he get started in show business. Mortel Strom one of jim's movie. Jimmy and Dean and Orson getting their hair done. Popular Mechanics. Personality.
Dom Del Lowise and Dean doing his magic trick. He forgot the spoons they were out of control. Knife throwing contest. Dean turned the table on Dom Del Lowise. Cut cigerate in half.
Orson telling of the parts he played on the radio. He played the Shadow Knows. He showed use the play that he was doing. Dean was doing his part. Dom Del Lowise was his guess. The mister voice. It was Frank Sinatra. Don't have any broken bones. buzz on the phone. No chart on the wall. Elephant Dean is sick with this. Peggy Lee singing Little Boy Blue. Dean and Peggy sing Just You. For You. Thought of You. You You're Driving Me Crazy. Do What you do.
Dean and Jimmy Stewart on the piano. Asked a few questions. Jimmy used A Double in his movie. Dean and Jimmy singing Ragtime Cowboy Joe. Hair Stylist. Dean and Orson and Jimmy under the drying their hair. Look For The Silverling.
Dean always said when he was with Jerry he was performing to Jerry not for the audience. That how he started out and he carry it thur to Peggy Lee here. It worked out for dean to work this way.
And he read from the cue papers scattered around the study with lines written by the authors of the program. He also read the lyrics of the songs he didn't know by heart.
Interesting to see him calling Dean 'Dino' ... he would protest at times when people did that ... the two of them are great ... together & independently of course ... good film of them on Carson ... one can see it on youtube ...
Wonderful entertainer. I have to say that Juliet Prowse seemed to be all over him though, to the point of just about being inappropriate, in some shows, especially the one with Bob Hope. Dean had his arms crossed, typical defensive posture. Have seen that tendency with several female entertainers, he is just so attractive and fun to be around, plus gorgeous. I get it, you just can't do it on stage. I think that Dean's "philandering" image may have been driven more by women going after him than the other way around. He is what you'd call 'cuddly', warm and affectionate. A human capybara.
videoclipits My guess is these are taken from a collection that I also once owned. Each volume features clips from various shows for the hour. None of the air dates are listed on the boxes. I'm just appreciative for the upload.
There is not even a single credit here for music director/ conductor, arrangers, or musicians. Those guys are not an option in this show, but a requirement.
Eh, that was just the way of it back in the day. Credits used to be way shorter, due to a combination of fewer people being involved in productions and it not being a rule that everyone who worked on a thing got credited. Go back and watch a black and white movie and there'll be maybe 10 people credited at the end. I remember the first time I took my grandfather to see a Marvel movie, and told him we had to stay for the credits because they always put an extra scene afterwards. He spent the next 20 minutes being increasingly flabbergasted and exclaiming things like "Did everyone in the world work on this picture?"
Sylvester Stallone wouldn't even be in the audience, let alone Frank Stallone, as neither one was even known in 1970, in a show that pre-dated Rocky I by 6 years!
I like the show, even tough I’ve personally never been cared that much for Dean’s personae. Was any of the show actually performed in front of a live audience, is it only canned laughter or, like many shows a mix of the two, i.e., they will either fill-in laughs in dead spots or layer laughter on top or mix in pre-recorded segments with a laugh track with live studio audience laughter? (By the way, I’m not asking for speculation, so please answer only if you actually know the answer.)
Just watched my nightly night -cap. Better than any pill. Will sleep well tonight. Look forward to tomorrow.
Same here whenever my choric pain is up all I have to do is turn on Dean, my pain seems to melt away.
Tony Wilson
What does choric mean?
It's a greek word, I know that but never heard it before.
💖
@@georgcorfuA typo. The intent was "chronic". Next time just try a little common sense and deductive reasoning and avoid embarrassing yourself. 😊

I wish I grew up watching Dean. I'm 26 and I spend more time watching Dean than I do watching today's television series.
@@ThisGuyJason1 31 and same here. It means you're not part of the common postmodern rifraf peasantry and long for quality and meaning.

Just great
Dean always said when he was with Jerry he was performing to Jerry not for the audience. That how he started out and he carry it thur to Peggy Lee here. It worked out for dean to work this way.
And thanks that it worked. The idea was from Jerry. Dean Martin just redid what he did with Jerry. Dean didn't invent ANYTHING.

27 piano Tops nobidy guess who the voice. It is (Frank Sinatra).
The mystery voice is frank Stallone
Surely you jest!
You missed that one. It's the voice of Frank Sinatra. "Strangers in the NIght". Google it. Both Dean and Frank were charter members of the "Rat Pack".
He was actually needling Frank by implying no one knew who Frank Sinatra was when Frank was singing one of his biggest hits.
Sylvester Stallone wouldn't even be in the audience, let alone Frank Stallone, as neither one was even known in 1970, in a show that pre-dated Rocky I by 6 years!
