Stop with the PG nonsense. Too Cool were the PG act in the Attitude Era, so that's not it. I liked Too Cool at the time, but it was so childish that it would have fit right in now. So, it's not that. It's that most of the Attitude Era fans left and no one else knew who he was.

Yes, but they should also have tweaked his character to make him less of a Kurt Angle rip off. There is no way for any wrestler to live up to a comparison with a legend like Kurt Angle, so that comparison was always bad for him.
I remember watching Monday Night Raw, live as it happened, when Brian Christopher made his return entrance. The entire arena was so silent, it was cringe worthy and downright disrespectful.
The same fans who watched Brian Christopher in the late 90s/early 00s were long gone by then. I am pretty sure at least 85% of Attitude Era/ECW fans stopped watching a long time ago and now mainly watch The UFC/MMA. These days even a random UFC PPV is significantly more exciting than a major WWE PPV.
Too Cool was a great stable of the Attitude Era. I remember when I watched Royal Rumble 2000 and the reaction they got back then was huge. I expected people to remember who Brian Christopher was at this point. In the end, the Attitude Era wasn't too far away in time back then. Maybe the crowd didn't know him by that name. Or maybe the crowd didn't remember Too Cool at all, which is a pity.
Yep. The problem was the core of it fell apart too fast, between hulk turning back to face, hall's personal prpblems affecting his work... and the lack of shock value. When the nwo showed up in wcw, they were the shot needed... edgy, antiauthority, powerful. But, imo, they did get stale after a while, especially when they got too big in numbers. To me, the point where they turned was when they added bagwell, of whom i was never a fan anyways. Hogan, hall, nash, the giant, and syxx are truly the core, real nwo. Associating others like nick patrick and bischoff was ok, but fake sting was a bit of a cartoony introduction... or rather, having a guy play him who has had an otherwise entirely unmemorable career, considering all the others to that point were known to crowds in one incarnation or another. My favorite part of it, really, is that behind the curtain, the kliq was pulling a lot of strings, in both of the major promotions.
The NWO in the wwe didnt make sense. In WCW they were viewed as former WWF guys trying to take over and destroy wcw. Coming back to WWE was just like a homecoming after a job well done
It says something when I actually watched every single episode of Smackdown and raw when Carlito and Primo were a tag team and I don't even remember them bringing back Carlito ever.
i’m glad swagger had a better run the year or so after with his “we the people” gimmick. that definitely made me like him and that rusev rivalry is one of the better remembered ones for me.

But even I was dead silent when Brian Christopher was brought back. I mean..... seriously???? Brought back just for a feud? That segment didn't even go good In my eyes
I was such a Wrestling nerd as a kid, it became not so fun when it started being mostly drama. I miss the days of locker room smack talks. Some of these made me legit sad 😅
That Maria and Mike Kanellis stuff was a guilty pleasure of mine I have to admit. Mike Kanellis' gimmick was being the ultimate whipped simp - that's just too funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I never saw their initial return but I was really into 205 in 2018 and when she and Mike made the jump I was surprised at just how great she had become on the mic.
Oh jeez, did not know he was the son of the legendary king Lawler! They never interacted during the attitude Era. Honestly I don't know his real name, but I think if they mentioned his ring name, grand Master 2 sexay then I'm sure the crowd would've been a bit more lively. Surprised they didn't do a tribute to him on wwe, his passing just swept by, he was one of my favorite wrestlers during attitude Era too, along with Scotty and Rikishi. Rip
The saddest return of all is the current return of Eve Marie. Before she officially returned, everybody knew she would NEVER ACTUALLY WRESTLE, just like the last time she was in WWE. Seeing her return is like warming up yesterday's left overs when yesterday's meal was the worst you ever ate.
Seriously. I was at home and I looooost it. I had been following Jakes rehab for over a year at thag point and it had been a few months since an update from him or DDP on his condition. And this was around one of the times Scott Hall fell back into relapse so for a while I was afraid that happened to Jake too. Then he came out on that Monday and he looked in phenomenal shape and I lost it

the WWE misuses people on the regular. HHH has said that they do not want big stars anymore. Rumor has it they are afraid that A. They will leave for Hollywood etc. or B. They become bigger than the WWE brand. Both things seems likely to be true and Ryback actually is the one who said the WWE is purposely keeping stars down and that he heard that from HHH who has been a shotty executive imo.
What’s sad is Vader -2 and Brian -1 are both no longer with us too. A lot of this list also have battled many demons (Carlito/Brain/Jake/Sunny) all leading to lackluster returns too. RIP the greats and please let the others who have struggled beat their demons.
To be fair, anyone who knew anything about Bryan and Jerry knew there was legitimate heat there, plus the whole Cole vs Lawler feud at that point reached uncomfortable levels of feeling like this wasnt a work and dirty laundry was being aired. The dude was most known as a face, so bringing him back as a heel, AND the crowd knowing what was about to happen was dangerously close to a shoot made it the disaster it was.
@@Jfraire99 exactly like imagine being so memorable when it was attitude era or ruthless aggression then years after taking a hiatus come back to thousands and thousands of people looking at you like who is this guy? Honestly a lot of us GE/Attitude Era folks left before Ruthless Aggression Era was even in its prime. I can see why sadly that some of these guys got no pops upon their return.
Just posted this on someone else's comment as well. WWE really botched their entire run. Maria especially is huge in ROH. But by the time they showed up, the PG era wouldn't ever let them work with the type of heat they are used to creating. They're both excellent heels when in a company that isn't so sensitive.
I think the fans today are too young to remember these people. I've seen Stone Cold come out to a mediocre response lately. Even Hogan. They market WWE to preteens and then expect Jake the Snake to get a huge pop. These guys haven't sniffed a ring in 20 years.
This was VERY sad! Sometimes, fans can be such idiots! Just totally & COMPLETELY disrespectful! SMMFH! Everyone on this list deserved better! Especially Jake & Brian!
WWE fans have terrible memories. I remember Regal's return like 1 year later, and half the people I was watching the show with didn't know who he was. Stasiak's return was even worse, as I feel like no one else I knew had even heard of him before, despite him being in WWE just a couple years earlier. Even when I reminded them that he was "Meat" the reaction was more or less "Who's Meat?" Of course, William Regal went by Stephen Regal, Stasiak went by Meat, and Brian Christopher was known as Grandmaster Sexay, so perhaps people are better with names/gimmicks than their faces?
This is what happens if you don't leave like The Rock did once he accomplished his success in WWF/WWE. Once you gain that stardom, You need to push it as far as it can go and then move on to something bigger. Movies, music, etc. Times change. People always find another "Hero" or "Bad Guy" to feed their adrenaline rush of excitement.
Since PG era started a lot of hardcore wrestling fans of the 90s and early 2000s moved on from WWE, the new audience that replaced them is simply clueless.
I really liked Carlito in all of his appearances. It's a shame that his father is such a shady character. It also doesn't help that he's got the locker room reputation of being incredibly lazy.
The part with Carlito was really disappointing because this happened to him again when he made his return to WWE in the men’s Royal rumble match, and it got worse from there with the tag team match he had with Jeff Handy. He then left WWE for good because management did not know how to utilize him.
Brian Christopher's return was sad just as everyone else has said. I would like to add that this event probably fueled his depression further more and lead to his suicide in jail. Imagine if he had gotten a huge pop and hit, his life may have turned around we will never know, but coming out to a dead crowd and doing that dance was silly. He must have been broken when he left.

Brian Christopher a.k.a. Grandmaster Sexay passed away due to being Brain Dead.
Leaving only Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty.

With respect to his passing, he was the least over member of Too Cool...Rikishi was who got them over and Scotty and the worm were its own thing...he was just happy to be there
I was absolutely INFURIATED when Brian Christopher got NO reaction. He was one of the most popular wrestlers in the most popular era then 10 years later, no one even knew who he was. It's probably because WWE was so PG at that point and distanced themselves from the attitude era so much that no one recognized him
But if you know the person. You still will react to him coming out. No matter how PG WWE has got
It was more Attitude era fans being long gone from WWE they went to the indepents to watch or stopped watching wrestling
Stop with the PG nonsense. Too Cool were the PG act in the Attitude Era, so that's not it. I liked Too Cool at the time, but it was so childish that it would have fit right in now. So, it's not that. It's that most of the Attitude Era fans left and no one else knew who he was.
@@LadyAstarionAncuninwell the PG bullshit is nonsense and ruined wrestling.
I think Sid Viscous in 2012 against Heath Slater was a sad reaction too for a guy that was getting cheered over Hogan in the early 90s

Announcing him before the music killed it.
They also used the wrong version of Too Cool theme, the one from 2001'ish, instead of the original theme.
Jack Swagger has always felt a bit boring as a character even when he was World Champion he didn't do much with what he was given

The Jack Swagger title run was the lamest in WWE history..
There’s been a few of those. Not as many as there have been great title runs. But many former heavyweight world champs didn’t truly have the star power to hold said belt. And then there’s some that did and never got to hold it.

Jake The Snake was more over than Hogan at one point. There was a time when his music hit the place would fall down from the noise.
To be honest I think most of the crowd had no idea who he was and thats a shame.
I can tell you right now if Michael had introduced him as grandmaster sexayy he would have got a better reaction
Or if it had been anyone other than Michael Cole introducing him.

@@nocapper5002 I think Swagger had Main Event potential great in ring abilities and decent on the mic. But when he became World Champion and dropped it to Rey Mysterio a month later in kind of ended his creditability

@@mysteryjunkie9808 he did have potential. Just WWE punished him for the rest of his contract because he got caught smoking weed.

Yeah I actually changed the channel because I felt so bad for him
The crowd were losers!!
It’s wwe fault for announcing him by Brian Christopher ppl of this generation just know him as grandmaster sexy
It was quieter than the pandemic era thunder dome shows.

The NWO had a sad return and run in WWE!
Coming back to WWE was just like a homecoming after a job well done

the WWE misuses people on the regular. HHH has said that they do not want big stars anymore. Rumor has it they are afraid that A. They will leave for Hollywood etc. or B. Both things seems likely to be true and Ryback actually is the one who said the WWE is purposely keeping stars down and that he heard that from HHH who has been a shotty executive imo.

Cole and Jerry had a feud in real life too? I stopped watching a few years prior to this segment of Brian Christopher

Stasiak's return was even worse, as I feel like no one else I knew had even heard of him before, despite him being in WWE just a couple years earlier. Even when I reminded them that he was "Meat" the reaction was more or less "Who's Meat?"
Of course, William Regal went by Stephen Regal, Stasiak went by Meat, and Brian Christopher was known as Grandmaster Sexay, so perhaps people are better with names/gimmicks than their faces?
