What is this, a movie where your clones is not selfish and actually helping each other, and a robot companion that actually care about the main character? That is genuinely surprising.
I mean to be fair there's no reason for the clones to betray each other, besides, the old clone was going to die horribly like a tiny bit after reaching earth, the other one needed time to meet his family and get the truth.

Man I love this movie. I highly respect actors that can carry a whole film all by themselves. Sam Rockwell is a top tier actor. Kevin Spacey as Gerty was a nice touch.

automaton robot would probably less costly and demanding than a clone. No need for food supply or feel lonely over spending long period of time on the moon, heck he can go to sleep mode and only turn on during work time.

I am gonna go out on a limb and suggest that because there has been absolutely no organic life on the moon, it would contain no oil. The whole fossil fuel thing comes into play.

These summaries are nice because it lets you see if the movie is worth watching. There are so many small details and nuances that these recaps don't touch and only watching can fill them in.

If I remember right, another movie takes place in this universe with a mention of two sams and the original suing the company
That's an interesting premise. I thought somehow they both probably weren't the original and actualy expected this whole operation to be taking place for a 100 years or so. I was roughly 85 years of, but the story feels like a part 2 would be an option where clone Sam confronts original Sam.

If you have to transport cargo to and from the moon anyway. Then was it really cheaper to use clones than to just send an actual person up.

They mined helium-3 deposited on the lunar regolith which is an isotope used for future fusion reactors back on earth. Lunar helium-3 mining is a real idea but fusion energy is still far.

How is it this channel finds so many sci-fi movies i've never even heard of. Never saw advertised or anything.
Oblivion is kinda meh to be honest, but it has a similar plot.
There is a man and a woman living together in what is basically a luxury apartment in the sky and they are supposed to be the only people on earth. The dude spends every day repairing automated equipment to keep their resource extraction operation going.
Eventually he finds out, whoops, the whole planet is actually covered in clones of him and this chick. Every one of them live in the same little luxury apartment in the sky and have the same equipment and do the same job, just in different areas. The whole operation is driven by an alien AI and it wiped out nearly all of humanity.
What made the difference with this one particular clone was he stumbled upon this woman that turned out to be his wife. When he started seeing her and interacting with her, some of his real memories started to come back. The woman he and his clones live with were a different woman. But after talking to his real wife, he begins to question things, begins to investigate and look around, discovers the truth, etc.
