    SNOWIES meets RED TRUCK
Back in 2008 I took my old stock HJ40 tray back down to the Snowy Mountains to have a look around. Tried my luck at trout fishing - never was good at that. But there's heaps of professional tips on trout fishing the Snowies from local blokes who really know it as well as a great look around a wonderful part of the country. Hard to believe this old Toyota actually made it - slowest trip of my life...

So, so lucky you caught those loose and missing bolts from your canopy before everywhere went haywire. It would have been one heckava blooper reel if it had fallen off. Loved these episodes. At era when everything was about enjoying the journey, admiring the scenery and looking to chill at the destination. These days, most you see is who can tackle the steepest rock climb, or drive the boggiest mud tracks with rigs that are kitted out to the wazoo.

Great vid Roothy, love how the focus is on the country and the experience and not just having the latest and greatest gear! My first car (1971 Land Rover Series IIA SWB) is still what I use to get away and explore WA in (bought when I was 17 and 22 now). Yes it's slow and loud, but there's something about it

Back then we still had the WAP (sadly) so all emigrants where from Europe.
I was born and raised on the Southern Highlands, (we had a 26,000 acre sheep/cattle station) and the best time to catch trout is early morning and late afternoon.

I know the feeling when the exhaust snapped at the extractors on my 75 landcruiser. I was driving through middle of Brisbane city and noticed it the cruiser was getting louder and sounding horrendous 😂🤣 got back home and noticed the extractors clean snapped off. I thought bugger to expensive to buy another one so luckily my dad welded it back together and I’ve never had a problem since.👌🤙

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I have been to parts of what you covered. Goes to show you don't need a rolling mortgage to enjoy 4WDing on off-the-beaten tracks. Though I disagree with one point of your intro comments. IMO it was the Willy's Jeep that showed the world what a good 4WD can do in really bad conditions. That's the reason both Toyota & Land Rover copied the formula and created their own versions.👍

My family owned an old khaki HJ40 ute from the early eighties through to 2000. It was an ex-Snowy Hydro truck. Maybe there were some good ones out there but this wasn't one of them, it was slower than a wet week with a very tired, poorly maintained 2H (as was the entire truck). I'm sure some people would be thrilled to own it but my old man still reckons the day he sold it was one of the best of his life 😂

Love these videos. Every modern show tells everyone you need all this bs gear. I get it you gotta get paid, but like everything else, this world is getting too commercialized. I started out wheeling in my old first gen swb montero with a 3 ton come a long and a few old rigging straps to get me and my friends out of bogs. Later I had 2, 3/4 ton chain come a longs with the same straps. Pulled myself out of quite a few high centered in a second gen montero. I will say, the upgrade to the ol winch was definitely worth it. I would take more chances :)

1 thing i learnt as a kid using mountain bikes put a slick tire inside a mountain bike tire..
you might want to try sticking radial road tire in a off road tire..

    • @JOHNROOTHROOTHY

Haha - never thought of that, and it might work too. Not so good on road tho... thanks mate!

    • @jasonhowe1697
      @jasonhowe1697 Рік тому

@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY understand this John that is not the whole tire than is in the other tire..
the tire that goes in the other has no side wall..
I saw no affect in adding it to my tire..
the concept is a inner liner for your outer tire..
I don't know whether anyone has thought to try and do this on motor vehicle tire I have no clue
however from my experience in running a road tire inside a mountain bike tire the concept should work..
though the tire you use is a tarmac only tire..
it stopped gg's for me it may help make your tires last a little longer no harm in trying it
