Agree, I was a landlord for 20 yrs. This one he is going through is nothing compared to what I have seen and smelled. The last one I had to buy some white hazmat suits and could barely get in the house walking over so much debris. We had to literally shovel dog crap out of the kitchen floor. Good tenants are few and far between.
One of the main reasons I will NEVER be a landlord/rent anything to anyone ever again. I've been through this and MUCH WORSE, with cops/courts involved, and no matter how you bend over backwards to please a tenant, many times they will do things like this. Worst one I ever had was a similar situation (Daddy in FL paid for everything, so ZERO f*&@s given for anything). Good luck with everything!
My husband and I were landlords twice and the last time we rented to a friend, broke us, we no longer wanted to rent and sold the house. It’s such a pain and I never wanted to do it again. It wasn’t worth it and some renters are the most ungrateful human beings you’ll ever find. They don’t care or understand the value of anything.
We now live in Texas and moved into a former rental we own. We always had pest treatment every three months. We have not been able to rehab as we want so far. But we are clean too. No mice, no rats, no cockroaches, no bugs, no pest treatment. Well we do spray around the foundation periodically. It's just clean. That's almost all the pest treatment it gets. Doesn't look great yet, but we'll get it there.
And this is why my 2nd home sits empty 😂. I couldnt imagine renting my beautiful home out and risk this happening. Props to those who can handle the stress of being a landlord. Seems like it would cost more money than you would make in the long run.
It’s a shame that renters can’t leave the place clean. This is a type of home I’ve rented in the past for over five years. The real estate agent said I left the home in better condition than when I first moved in. A month ago the agent called and was going to sell the home and interested in buying it… yes! Long story short, the house is mine.
"Economic outpatient care" is commonly referenced and warned against in Thomas J. Stanley's book "The Millionaire Next Door" which is a statistical book about the habits and choices of millionaires. The ones who gave their adult children "economic outpatient care" had a strong statistical tendency with continually needing to provide that "care" no matter how old their adult children got.
I was cleaning the house back in the 60s and 70s growing up. I hated a dirty house. When the adults would finally pass out, I would get up clean up their mess. The worst smell for me was when they put their cigarette butts in their beer cans. The house stunk. As you can expect, still today I don't drink alcohol nor do I smoke cigarettes or use drugs. Plus I ended up running away and to this day at 67 I never saw them again.
btw, i’ve always admired and loved the very low windows in this house from the moment you bought it until this moment when you must start all over again. Sitting in a soft comfortable chair or a rocking chair or even a bed where you don’t have to move an inch from the sitting in order to see a out the window at the sky just strikes me as my favorite indoor amenity
My husband has cleaned out trash outs where the house was foreclosed. A basement full of trash bags of clothes, animal poop everywhere, rotting meat in a large freezer and fridge, sink full of dirty dishes months old and flies. They have to scoop the whole house out with a barn shovel. This place just looks messy, very messy.
Years ago a foreclosure down my street had all the windows, walls and cabinets destroyed and they poured concrete into all the sinks and toilets. At least they didn’t do damage to that extent.
@@investfourmore I hope they did! It would be horrible to have a foreclosure, but it's because the payments aren't being made. I don't understand destroying a place when it's because you didn't make the payments.
Wow Mark that’s so crazy disgusting!! Unbelievable how people just trash properties that they don’t own!! You work so hard to get those places look awesome and then that wow!! 100 percent unacceptable!! That one little house is so cute I love it. I rent a little house like that and it’s immaculate cause I’m a clean freak lol. Hope the next tenant is cleaner for you with no issues. Thanks for sharing Mark love all your videos!!
As a landlord, I can say, and I would say that Mark would also say, that landlords do get and treasure tenants like you. Some tenants assume all landlords are rich. Not true. But if you make a good living from being a landlord, you work your guts out at your job and every penny is earned. Look at all the work Mark puts into his properties. If I was a tenant I'd love to have a landlord like Mark. If I was a tenant and broke a window like that, I'd fix it or pay my landlord to fix it. But Mark will fix it.
I’m so sorry that those NASTY, TRASHY people messed up your rental like this. You did a great job renovating it. It was really nice and I know you will have it back that way. Hopefully the next tenants will take better care of it.
Hi Mr Mark, im still a fan that thinks you are such a nice young man who loves to help people. I love to watch the way you handle the laundromats. I’m 78 years old and I watch you all the time. Be good and safe. Spend time with your family. They grow up quick and then y’all look at one another and say , where did the time go. God bless you
Iit makes me sad that you buy a "tired" property that has potential, make it nice, yet affordable, and some tenants do this to it. You seem like a really good and very reasonable landlord. I'm glad the vast majority of your tenants don't treat your properties like this.
Finally getting the keys back in your hands. Not surprising leaving it messy shows they didn’t care. Old tenants had managed to add an extra month rent. Good luck with thier new landlord with problem tenants of yours.
I would give anything to live in a place that's nice! I'm a senior and live in a total shit hole! I am a good tenant. I'm immaculate. It's sad how people live.
I never left a property unclean or a,mess. I always got my full deposit back. It just shocks me how filthy some people live and leave the messes behind. What is the mental malfunction that anyone would think this is acceptable to do?!
Wild guess here… The parents don’t want the tenant/their adult child living with them in their own home because there are issues (ADHD, depression, etc.) so they pay/support/enable their adult child to live semi-independently. My first house, one of my neighbors…his mom owned the unit he lived in.
I did a pretty good job cleaning one apartment (left zero debris just didn't bleach the toilet) and they still tried to bill me for $500 worth of random stuff. Replacing counter tops and carpet that were not damaged and billing me. Plus I was there 5 years. I took the credit hit and never paid them a cent. Wasn't planning on taking out any big loans any time soon.
Me too. I rented an apartment and they thought they were going to get me on not cleaning the ceiling fan. I made them get on the ladder to see that it was spotless. I had heard if they found one thing wrong, regardless of how small, they would keep your entire deposit. I made sure they took pictures of the entire unit and send me copies upon the move out inspection. I would have left it spotless anyway, but I could tell they were miffed I was protecting myself to get my deposit back!
Having just turned 41 and got laid off, I'm at a turning point. With 425K saved for early retirement at 40, 10K in an HSA, and a property that could sell for an extra 200K, what are my options for investing aggressively?
Not going back to work. I'm unsure whether to consolidate all my investment accounts into one. If I do, how should I handle it and what should I be aware of? I also plan to sell my property, which could bring in an extra 200K over time. Should I combine everything into one account or spread it out across different investments?
These are key questions for a financial planner. I connected with mine at a summit, and with her help, my wife and I reallocated our 1.7M portfolio between a traditional IRA and brokerage account. She’s been managing the investment with our approval and has helped us recover twice our losses. Currently hodl’ing steady and cautiously navigating the market
I have worked for 7 companies in my area that combined own around 2000 properties. I clean, paint, remodel and do electrical and plumbing etc. I have cleaned out 1200 heated square foot homes that were hoarder houses. One in particular, the tenants had been there 12 years and other than a narrow walkway from front door, through living room, to bedroom, bathroom and kitchen- stuff was piled to the ceiling throughout. I had to use only my fingers in a tiny crack that the doors would open and pull items through the crack one by one until I could open the doors little by little. This apartment is a breeze to clean and fix.
Put a door as break-in proof as possible on that basement. Maybe even put in the lease that you inspect the basement periodically and if it shows any use by the tenant, that there will be a $200 or something like that for breaking in and that it will be reported to the police as a burglary.
I am so sorry this happened to you! When you rent, you treat everything like gold! You as a tenant are very lucky to be trusted and have a roof over your head. The house was very nice in the beginning!
What a cute little home. So sad that people do this kind of thing. I can't imagine people living this way but so many do. That's why I don't want to be a landlord again, too much hassle. I just use the extra home I have an an AirBnb Rental. It is right next to my home so I can keep an eye on it. It would drive me mentally crazy if I saw people living like this in my property. I would be harassing them, Clean this Shit UP!!!! Hence the reason why I don't want permanent tenants.
neighbour of ours rented out his small renovated house with new flooring and all he bought as a investment The very first tenants he had moved out without notice they left behind in the living room was a old intact car engine that was leaking oily fluids all over the living room hardwood flooring and running down the wall the engine was leaning against . To get the engine into the house they removed the back door frame and all they had dragged the old engine threw the kitchen and into the living room leaving deep gouges on the flooring etc.
This is why rent is so much folks. B/c a responsible landlord doing the right thing, fully renovating a place for a tenant, only for that tenant to stop paying rent and trash it. Now the landlord has even more costs to restore the property, which gets passed onto the new tenant.
They are the same type of tenants that will try and sue you after you throw all that crap out!! Probably say all the shit was worth thousands of dollars when it was just junk!! Good thing you filmed how it looked after they left the apartment!! What a bunch of slobs, that's why they had mice!!
I'm taking some seriously beautiful window treatment hints from them. And bread stored in the warmest part of the kitchen?? Brilliant! And how smart is it to use one of the 3 drawer plastic walmart containers as a side table? They've missed their calling...
I’m actually surprised that fridge isn’t that dirty inside I would clean that fridge really well and keep it in the house it’s definitely worth saving that fridge
My brothers first wife thought if you rent a place it’s not yours so you don’t have to clean it. He cleaned and did everything and worked. He was divorced before a year was up. If you rent it is your home if you are paying money to live there. You should keep it clean. 🙄 I don’t know how people can think any different than that. It’s your responsibility!!
Why would people leave such a mess? We were a military family. When we moved put of housing, I cleaned and then had a professional cleaner go over it for things I may have missed. What a bunch of creeps!
I had a neighbor in Austin for 12 years, who lived like that. When he left, his home was absolutely full of stuff. He allowed his kids to spray grafiti all over inside the pool. The buyer demolished the house and built a new one. When I sold my home a year later, I left it almost clean. I offered to vacuum the floors and fill the little holes in the walls. The buyer told me not to. He also demolished the house and built a new one. By the way, my own brother lives like my former neighbor, and so does my former car mechanic (retired now). Go figure.
That's crazy. We rent a garage apartment and though I would like to use the garage, it's not part of our lease. Neither it the basement, as that is where a lot of the thing are located that are not for me to mess with, like hot water tank and the heating system. We have a property management team that includes a team of maintenance guys and anytime something needs dealt with they come right over, but I woudl NEVER think to use the garage or the basement because they are both locked/secured and I knwo ti is not something I am paying to use. I am working through a few boxes I still have on my porch area, but it's not something I will have out much longer. One thing these people never think about is how things might bother other people. My home is behind another house. My front door and both porch/patio areas look over at the house. I would be upset if they left it junky because it reflects poorly on me when I have a visitor. It makes my property management team look trashy and encourages other people to nto take care of their property. We live in an area that used to be very affluent, but now is more middle class. However, the homes are still beautiful and you can tell when head to the trashier areas becasue they all treat the property like this family treated this home in the video. Hopefully you can get your money back and they get more than a slap on the wrist. Maybe if momma has to go to court or deal with a judgment on her credit (even if it gets paid off, it still could come up as a judgment on credit report). And soem of these landlords now ask questions like, have you ever had to pay more than $500 for property damages? This mom is not doing them any favors and will ruin her own credit covering for these birds that need kicked out of the nest.
Oh My Goodness! Those tenants seem like the exact same people that occupied a rental next door to us. Had a mommy money bank too. She preferred to pay for them to NOT live with her. Kept complaining to the property manager about them with, dogs, kids, drugs yada yada yada and they did absolutely NOTHING. When they finally moved out (they never stay long) the house was completely trashed! The entire neighborhood was glad they were gone.
I’m sorry for all the aggravation they caused you. At one time I had 35 rentals and managed all of them myself. I could write a book about people and the ways they live. My stress level was thru the roof but now at age 74, I’m done as they have been sold and it is the best life ever. Thank Jesus for my life and sanity.
This is such a beautiful home. I'm really sorry this is the way they treated it. A space like that in New England where I am would be over 2K. I would have respected the hell out of it.
It's like a dolls house. So cute. Such a shame. I'd love to live in a house like that. I live in a 1970s state house in New Zealand that's been renovated but they kept all the old fixtures. I love it !!!
How do they get a reference to get another place? We had a duplex with an apartment upstairs and down. We rented the upstairs unit to a woman who decided to put in a water bed. She hooked up the hose to the kitchen sink and left to go shopping. I got a call from the downstairs tenant screaming that water was pouring out of the ceiling fixtures. We sold the place and that was the end of being landlords.
Parents do a disservice to their children, and the world at large, when they pay for everything. My brother did this, and you'd have thought an adult child would be truly grateful. Nope. My sis in law, had a heart of gold, but she had one flaw, which made her see her adult children, who had children of their own, as helpless as they were at age 5. She not only bought their food, she shopped for it. My brother, a physician, and professor not only gave two of their children (1, got the heck out of there, at age 15, by getting pregnant, on purpose, got married, and never looked back) about 1 1/2 acres of land, and a 3 bed/2 bath home. The result was neither had toil in their lives. My nephew, whom I adored could have been a musician. He could master any instrument, and my niece could've worked with horses. Both chose to do nothing. Too many want to be wealthy, today, on their parents money. You hear neighborhood "Karen's" insisting on "my property" lines being here, finding that she is actually living in Mom's home, and instead of her at least keeping the place clean, allows her child to write on the walls, instead of cooking, is always tired, so Mom finds herself being a mom to an old teenager, and a toddler. People need to toil, but also deserve what they toil for. If I have more, it's not because of some invisible inequality. It's because I began getting up early when I was in 2nd grade, and doing work assigned to me. If I am paid more, it's not because of my skin, it's because I go above and beyond, the assignment. Parents who cosign, usually learn a valuable lesson, if they aren't let off the hook, too. I hope your tenant's mother ends up paying for the filth her family left you to deal with. The property could be a bed and breakfast, and I love the color. Better luck, next time, and hopefully you learned not to rent to people who need a cosigner for anything.
I have pets but i take care that they aren't able to damage where i live and if they do damage i repair it or get someone to repair it to how it was it better. I want to rent one of your super cute properties. You sound like a very cool landlord.
I just don't understand how some people have no pride or respect for a place they live in, whether they rent or buy. I have to agree with you that Mom probably pays for everything and always has but never taught responsibility. I'm a long time renter and I've lived in many cities in the past as I traveled with the ex husband while he was in the military. We always got our deposit back and there was one time we got it back without an inspection. The landlord came over the day we were leaving. She had been over many times before and she also had my permission to enter the place whenever she wanted. I know about the 24 hour notice thing unless it's an emergency. But I wanted her to know we had nothing to hide. She handed me the cash deposit and never checked the place out. That was so cool really. It's really so sad how some renters just destroy the home of another. Just as a note of interest, since there is access to the underside of the house in the cellar, I would put bubble foil up under the flooring. It keeps the upstairs warmer and mice don't like it. Also, I live in a very old A Frame cottage near the woods so mice is a definite problem. That was until I got some plug ins that emit a signal not heard by the human ear but definitely keeps the mice and other critters out.
My bedroom might get really dirty sometimes with food garbage but not the whole house nor to the point I never cleaned it. Just maybe didn’t clean my room much more than once or twice a month
Do you send the late rental payment history to the credit bureau? Seems like that could be an added step to help keep other landlords aware of these specific tenant's abuse.
Even if you dont own the place idk how anybody could live like that? I pride myself on leaving rentals better than given to me. Twice my apt in two different complexes has been used to show potential buyers of the building cause of how nice we had it.
I hope you sue them for damages they caused. It is sad to see how people treat property that they rent. I have been looking for 3 years for a place to rent and if I ever am lucky enough to find a place I would never treat it like these people did.
Actually, this home doesn't look that bad compared to the homes I've seen on youtube. Where the homes I've seen need to have a tent ⛺️ around the whole home and be fumigated ! Those homes were literal pig stys !! Your home is fixable and not that bad. I hope you're able to collect all of your home back.
I am amazed that with all your years of real estate experience that you approved a tenant who needed their mother to co-sign. Why would you set yourself up for this kind of failure?
That place looks perfect, immaculate compared to what the renters across the street from me did to that house. I don't have to tell you how horrific renters are.

That place is absolutely disgusting! Unbelievable how they would leave that place.
for sure
It’s a shame that renters can’t leave the place clean.
This is a type of home I’ve rented in the past for over five years. The real estate agent said I left the home in better condition than when I first moved in. A month ago the agent called and was going to sell the home and interested in buying it… yes! Long story short, the house is mine.
Looks intentional to me. That right before they left, they dumped the garbage in the livingroom. Btw, that's a nice refrigerator.

@@investfourmore wonder what happened to the black refrigerator that you had in.
@@High12083 i asked nikki and she wanted a bigger one. So we went and got the fridge and she accused my guys of hitting on her.
@@investfourmore that crazy, some woman can be nuts
@@investfourmore😂 I'm sure they found her housekeeping intensely attractive.
wow that one is nasty. Those kids are going to have an uphill battle in life with a parent like that.
"Economic outpatient care" is commonly referenced and warned against in Thomas J. Stanley's book "The Millionaire Next Door" which is a statistical book about the habits and choices of millionaires. The ones who gave their adult children "economic outpatient care" had a strong statistical tendency with continually needing to provide that "care" no matter how old their adult children got.
yup
Such a cute home. Sad...😢
It will be cute again!
@@investfourmore 🥰👍🏽
Was a cute home....
True but that is criminal damage as well. You could have them arrested for destruction or property vandalism.
Thank you !
I’m so sorry that those NASTY, TRASHY people messed up your rental like this. You did a great job renovating it. It was really nice and I know you will have it back that way. Hopefully the next tenants will take better care of it.
Thank you so much!
God bless you
Thanks!
Omg it WAS beautiful...so sorry about the trashy people 😢😢
Oh My Goodness, that is the cutest house. How d people do that
Iit makes me sad that you buy a "tired" property that has potential, make it nice, yet affordable, and some tenants do this to it. You seem like a really good and very reasonable landlord. I'm glad the vast majority of your tenants don't treat your properties like this.
Thanks!
It is a dump new flooring seems to be the only upgrade it's a dump
@kimsummers1633 lol. New windows, kitchen. Bath, paint, hvac, plumbing, roof, doors, etc. Yes only flooring lol.
Wild guess here…
The parents don’t want the tenant/their adult child living with them in their own home because there are issues (ADHD, depression, etc.) so they pay/support/enable their adult child to live semi-independently.
After trashing the place this kind of person then tells everyone you were a slum lord.
For sure!
Having just turned 41 and got laid off, I'm at a turning point. With 425K saved for early retirement at 40, 10K in an HSA, and a property that could sell for an extra 200K, what are my options for investing aggressively?
It makes sense to consider a financial advisor at this stage, but delaying retirement might be a smarter choice
That’s impressive! My portfolio has been struggling. Who is your advisor?
Lois Jean Frueh. Look her up online, she's well-known.
The abandonment of the Squishmallow hurts my soul.
It’s probably bug infested.
Sure we have had worse too
The grounds around the property are dreadful, no green grass..
Put a door as break-in proof as possible on that basement. Maybe even put in the lease that you inspect the basement periodically and if it shows any use by the tenant, that there will be a $200 or something like that for breaking in and that it will be reported to the police as a burglary.
Padlock the cellar door.
yes I think we may have had one
Wow, they literally destroyed that adorable little cottage!
My x owns a hauling business. He’s seen a lot worse regularly. I’m surprised they returned the keys. It’s really cute. Hope you do better next time.
That's such a cute house. I could see flowers on the front lawn.
neighbour of ours rented out his small renovated house with new flooring and all he bought as a investment
The very first tenants he had moved out without notice
they left behind in the living room was a old intact car engine that was leaking oily fluids all over the living room hardwood flooring
and running down the wall the engine was leaning against . To get the engine into the house they removed the back door frame and all
they had dragged the old engine threw the kitchen and into the living room leaving deep gouges on the flooring etc.
jezuss h christ some people are just useless eaters.
The dirt and the garbage is bad enough but what are people doing that they do so much damage to the walls, windows etc.
Where is your property located, rent amount, when it will be available?
I'm taking some seriously beautiful window treatment hints from them. And bread stored in the warmest part of the kitchen?? Brilliant! And how smart is it to use one of the 3 drawer plastic walmart containers as a side table? They've missed their calling...
You have to be a landlord to know how this feels. I have been through this over and over.
I rented a house for 13 years. Treated it like my own home. My landlords were elderly and lived two hours away. Didn’t bother them for anything
I don’t know how people can think any different than that. It’s your responsibility!!
crazy, i would want to take care of other peoples things
Why would people leave such a mess? We were a military family. When we moved put of housing, I cleaned and then had a professional cleaner go over it for things I may have missed. What a bunch of creeps!
Once all the junk out, it is mostly cleaning and cosmetic repairs, some painting. The yard needs a lot of tlc.
What a shame! It was such a cute little house! If someone needs a co- signer it’s a red flag!
Oh nooooooo why?
yup
Could you require a high deposit?
How many bedrooms does this house have ? What state is this house located ? Looks like a nice community

Agreed
That's a cute little house!! 🤗
I have seen (and cleaned) places much worse than this!
Yes thats forsure!
Do you send the late rental payment history to the credit bureau? Seems like that could be an added step to help keep other landlords aware of these specific tenant's abuse.
The only payment they were late on was the last one. The collection will show up on her credit as coming from a rental.
What a cute little house - on the outside.
that’s an adorable little home 🏠
the whole video I was thinking please please PLEASE don’t kick the toilet open 😳 whew ! thank you 😂
Im so sorry you had to deal with this ......
Even if you dont own the place idk how anybody could live like that? I pride myself on leaving rentals better than given to me. Twice my apt in two different complexes has been used to show potential buyers of the building cause of how nice we had it.
People needs to show property and the house with respect not to trash it 😡
agreed
Nice property.
I hope you sue them for damages they caused. It is sad to see how people treat property that they rent. I have been looking for 3 years for a place to rent and if I ever am lucky enough to find a place I would never treat it like these people did.
@@grandmapamm you're competing with illegals now that's why rents are so high & your application is put at the back of the list.
Do you charge them pro-rata for the time it takes to clean the property?
How long did they live there?
If you remove the mold with H2O2 and paint with oil based Kilz, the mold shouldn’t return.
Can I call you guys to see where this is located at i'm interested
This is making my eye twitch! I like my place neat and orderly.

I am amazed that with all your years of real estate experience that you approved a tenant who needed their mother to co-sign. Why would you set yourself up for this kind of failure?
That place looks perfect, immaculate compared to what the renters across the street from me did to that house. I don't have to tell you how horrific renters are.
Do you do a credit check on tenants?😊
