- I was sent this Bachmann WD Austerity by Stephen who told me it had suffered a drop and was now in a state of disrepair. I've decided to serialise this repair and edit it less so this will be Episode 1 of me trying to get it back together and running again.

This is good Bill,I like the format…checking for parts etc, plus it gives us a full breakdown of the loco…can’t wait to see the results.
What a great idea Bill. To actually see all of what you do in repairing a loco with all the waffle will be really interesting. Not only repairing but showing how to purchase parts, where to find them etc. Hope you keep all the bloopers and mistakes in as well to show we are all human. Looking forward to the next episode! 👍
My lucky day. I recently bought a Bachmann WD 2-8-0 online together with a Bachmann LMS Royal Scot. The Royal Scot seems to have a bit of an issue with its wheels but the only thing wrong with the 2-8-0 is it's a bit light on its wheels.
Thanks for these videos! I should be able to disassemble it to make it a bit heavier and lubricate it properly.
Another cliff hanger , tension , adds to the interest . Enjoying this one
I like this format Bill, not every time of course. But it explains your thinking and the best thing is how you go about getting spare parts. It’s like being sat on the other side of your work bench.
Dear Sir,
As always, a great video! I like the new format!
Cheers from 'a few Hornby repairs with thanks to you' Brazil!
WDs have a reputation for being run down and clanky, mainly due to neglect. The KWVR one steams really well if fired correctly, it always liked a nice front to the fire, the key as a fireman being able to get the coal right to the front. It was always satisfying to hear the coal hitting the tubeplate. It would then need the injector on to prevent blowing off while climbing out of Keighley.
Great idea, more videos, less editing, don’t mind waiting, all part of the fun 😁
Can’t beat a bit of waffle 😂. Nice format though and easy to watch.
the best of luck fixing her up
I have 2 of these…. Both failed miserably due to the Bachman grease turning to concrete on the final driver one suffered a burnt out motor and the other luckily because I came across the concrete grease managed to strip and clean it and save the motor
I think that this was of doing some of the videos is a good idea. You could always use the dramatic “Coming next time……” ending 😄😄
Great start, looking forward to part two.
This seems like my repair bench, except you are much quicker and organized.
Very interesting format of video repair
Given that this model represents one of the WDs used on the continent, I suspect that the damage on the right-hand side of the smokebox occurred when a Westinghouse air brake pump was knocked off. If it is not present in the kit of parts, you might want to see if a replacement is available from Bachmann. Very interested to see how the new format works out.
Bill found the part in the bag with the front bogie. It will be the Westinghouse pump, I agree.
Enjoying this roll on part 2 !!😁
Yes this website bachmann spares that's where I need new parts for my class 08 shunter
Great video but Your Bachmann site and what we have in the States is entirely different. Very little parts are available here, so we need to rely on Ebay and other sources. It was a shock to see you navigate that, clearly well built, Bachmann site. I have repair envy, lol.
Can't wait for the next episodes :)
I have one of these that unexpectedly stopped and proved very reluctant to go. I could hear an occasional spark. What had actually happened was that the pick-up strip had lifted slightly and was shorting out on the metal chassis above it. One wonders why it does not have a separating strip.
Good idea bill 👍
So it begins....
Bill, the cab handrails should be attached to the cab doors first and then when the body is refitted the bottom re inserted into the chassis. Trying to fit them into the cab doors when refitting them attached to the chassis will be a nightmare. If you check the parts diagram you will notice the handrails are attached to the loco body not the chassis. Hope this helps on re-assembly
👍👍
Test the motor first?
It looks like more of a request to assemble the kit than to repair it.
I like your waffle.
Not liking this new format much. Pretty boring video.
Dont watch then
@@tellitlikeitis-rg4ny I didn't. Clicked off after a few minutes.
These type of repair are always a very slow start while examining and deciding what needs replacing. I find there is often a bit missing at the end and have to pay an extra £5 for a part that costs £0.50p !
