I agree about the amazing communication! I love how they interact and are so valuing to each other in what they say and how they say it. And how much better is to be have help with the decluttering! 🙌🏼
Yes! They work well together! I love when they declutter together. Very much on the same page and respectful of the others wishes and things they personally want to keep it let go of.
The real point is deciding where to put things which are being kept and just getting on with it. I like that you showed sorting through and then actually hanging them so that they don't sit around any longer! It gets rid of the overwhelm of more decisions another day.
The easiest way we've found for our family to go through pictures, ornaments etc is to make a pile of every ornament or picture or whatever, then ask everyone to take their favorite piece/s out of the pile. Whatever is left no one really cares about and can all go. If we pick up each piece individually and look at it, we hum and hah over it and decisions aren't made because touching them triggers memories that we associate with that item even though we might not particularly like the item. Works great with clothes too. Make a pile of all your shirts, another of all your long pants, all your hats or whatever and so on. Also much easier for the autistic members of our family that usually struggle with decision overload within a short time.
@@3llenzinha Yea! She did it at her doggie daycare one day. They dipped her paw in paint so it's her paw prints as flowers and then they painted stems on them and painted her name on top. It's super cute and she must have been really cooperative as hers turned out way better than a lot of the others.
Don't throw out the picture of your husband as a baby. But it in a memory bin! I can't tell you how thrilled I was to find a picture of my grandfather as a young man! I have my father's high school graduation picture & one of him his uniform (WWII) with his mother (who I never knew). I would never part with any of them! I bet you some day Becca would feel the same way her Daddy's baby picture as I do my cherished ones ❤🙂
My heart smiled while watching this video, for a few reasons. Mostly, because of the ease of this process. You have come so far! But also, because you look great Erica! And I can tell you're feeling great too. Loved seeing that space cleared!!
I've been seeing this for a while now. She has come a long way with her attachment to stuff!! It goes to show how much better for our health it is to just let things go!!
Same here!! Such a beautiful family, great relationship between you and Andy, and you're looking great Erica!! I also especially loved Andy's coined phrase of declutter riffing off of each other... and most of all, the moment with Rebecca when she realized the wishes you have for her life 💗💗💗 10 out of 10 on this one!!! 👍👍
I went through this during lockdown. I took virtually every family photo (except 3) out of their frames. I put them all into albums, documented who is in the picture, etc. I had also gone through all of our photos and discarded all but the best. I donated the frames. How wonderful a feeling this was to have accomplished this!
And in a third dimension.... someone somewhere went to Goodwill and bought a ton of frames and put all her pictures in them and said what a wonderful feeling.
Erica, one of my biggest regrets is that I didn’t proudly display my diplomas to help inspire my own kids. Not that they had to go to college, but that it was an accomplishment that should be respected. I had a life where I met goals before I had children. Keep the framed diploma, hang it, and use it to inspire learning and accomplishment.
This one was very satisfying. That pile was driving me crazy. LOL. Someone once said that the floor is the biggest flat surface in your house, so seeing that pile always bugged me. Isn't it funny that things you keep before because they are "sentimental" or cute seem so easy to just dump later?
3M makes command strips that are velcro. One side sticks to the frame, and one to the wall. That would keep frames from moving, and no holes in the walls. If it's a little crooked, just pull the picture off the wall and adjust it. So proud of the amount of wall hangings you decluttered!
One of your best videos, to date, in my opinion. It really shows how much you and Andy respect each other's opinions. Love watching your channel and seeing the growth from the past 2 years.
Amazing progress! I’ve taken those big pictures (like of Andy as a baby) and scanned them or taken a picture of them, then thrown them away so the memory is preserved but the thing isn’t cluttering my house. Also, a little bit of painters tape on the back bottom corners of frames help keep them level. 😊
Oh my goodness how far you've come since your storage unit load was delivered!!! You have such direction now! Thank you for bringing us along on the process!!
Thank you, Erica! That was so fun and motivating! I love how the two of you communicate and make decisions together. Awesome. And also, you're daughter's response to the quote in her bedroom: "I have to do all that?!" I am inspired to go through my own framed photo and wall hanging bin.
Massively enjoyed this. You and Andy working together is such a great example. He is so proud of you for collecting those place signs, I could really sense that. I hope you can find something that matches in with the set you have for the remaining ones. Pictures really make a home x
Rebecca is so sweet, asking if she's really going to do all that! And go Andy! After using all his decisions I am impressed he was still a go to tackle getting those all hung up. Nice work!
The pic looks perfect over the rocking chair- the woods seems to match and adds an extra cozy vibe to the reading corner. Pics and books are hard for me, too. Great job- thanks for sharing
I’ve watched you from the beginning and I am amazed how fast you were able to make decisions on these wall hangings! Congrats on both of your hard work to get to this place. Very inspiring.
What a testimony to persistence in getting through the basement sections, and a couple who could come to an agreement of what stays! Made my heart sing to see the pictures go up on the walls and your yellow framed picture placed in just the right spot! Carry on!
Great teamwork! I found the amount of frames amazing. I don't think I have ever had more than 6 or 8 in my life, I just change the pictures out once or twice a year and put the old ones in the photo album.
I liked where you guys hung all the pictures that you kept. Your daughters reaction to what the saying said was so cute. Her pictures look super cute in her room. Great video as always. Thanks for sharing with us!
At 3:00 I was going full game show mentally yelling at the contestants! I was like NO NO NO Erica!!!! I was so relieved when you let go of that first frame!
You did so well Erica, no mucking around with your decisions, you made good choices. That mirror Andy chose to keep might look good behind a bar. I am glad you kept the Lucas picture, it was so cute!!!! the basement looks so much better with just one less pile.
I loved this video so much to watch. The honesty to one another is so pure and is for a Dutch person so nice to see. Being open and respectful for the other persons opinion and not forsing anything. Great, amazing everyting! Just love!
Kia Ora from NZ. I put lots of special, mainly family photos in a photo album/scrapbook so we would still have them and look at them when we want and donated the frames. I have really loved watching the Lucas Family journey.
Thanks Guys! I bet you are glad to get through this project.Just a suggestion for the signs of places where Andy was stationed. Use screw eyes to attach each sign top to bottom to the previous so you won't have to constantly level each one.
Thank you for your videos I love your videos they help me whenever I get stuck while I'm decluttering my small apartment. Your videos gives me hope to keep going.
This was so satisfying! Erica, I love how you go through each item with us so we see the process, instead of ‘fastfoward with music, job done’. When it comes to decluttering wall hangings you and Andy’s decluttering muscles’ have gotten huge!💪🏻 The two ‘riffing’ off each other was a class act, I’m impressed how much you both let go of! 😘
I've been waiting for this one! A great place to donate frames is a high school art department. They usually love getting them and students love having a frame to put their work in for shows etc.
This shows the power of putting like items together and then decluttering. I imagine knowing how much items there are of one category motivates what stays and what goes.
I just found your channel. I feel very down today, and I came across this video. I cried through the entire thing. You are both very kind to each other and communicate and worked so well together.
Whoohoo! The space invites a dance around in celebration. It very much reminded me of when you got to the point of curating your own wardrobe - you'd purged and had the space and time to focus on what you wanted the outcome of personal style to be - the same here only you and Andy are curating your whole house and coming up with a 'after' look and it's so cosy and gentle and calm and full of love.
Loved seeing how well you two communicate and how much you got rid of. I hang most of our things with command strips for frames (also renting). I hate floor piles. I strive to keep our home floor pile free aside from my bf’s things. I gently encourage him to deal with his 3-4 piles. 😂
“Preserve from what?” “The kids!” I laughed so hard 😂😂😂🥰. This was excellent. I find pictures EXCEPTIONALLY difficult to let go of. I love Andy. He seems like a great guy and it’s so nice you are doing this together. I think “Back in the Basement” should be the name of this playlist/series ❤️🇨🇦.

Great work guys! Someone who’s looking for blue frames is about to score Big! Lol For the wooden signs you can use I-hooks and small chain to attach them together!
Loved this video! FOR THE PLACE NAME SIGNS, consider asking the Etsy shop that has similar ones if they can do custom work to make it look like what you have. I've done that before and had success.
I always enjoy your videos! Love seeing Andy and you Erica making decisions together. So Happy You Kept the Lucas frame. And absolutely loved how fast you knew where to place it. Perfect spot! You've both inspired me to tackle my dreaded photos bins. Thank you.
I have to say I’m not surprised to see that total number of wallhangings 😉 Yay! I loved this process!! It was well planned, and you both knew the plan. It seemed to go smoothly, or at least less painfully than my own attempts! I'm learning so much from watching your real life declutters. Communication is even more important than I thought, even when it comes to decluttering. Great job!!!
Hi I recently had to down size and I took most of my family pictures out of the frames and just put them in 1 scrap book I had no walls for the items but I could not bare to get rid of photos it worked very well now I will add my other Pictures choosing the best and offering family members if they want to go through and take some. The pictures I keep are mostly for me and my memories it will work.
OR save it for an upcoming big anniversary; like their 50th or something! Especially if his parents may not remember that he had the mask and then they regifted it back to them as an anniversary gift! 🤣 something like that my parents would think was hilarious. 🥰
I didn't see this as much a decluttering video but as a testament of a married couple with great communication skills...have a great week..
I agree about the amazing communication! I love how they interact and are so valuing to each other in what they say and how they say it.

Take some pictures of Ranger and frame it. I guess he was thinking "hey mom and dad, I want my pictures on the wall too"
Agreed. I have a wall with some of my favorite pictures of my dog (and one she painted) and it's one of my favorite things.

Eh, I don't think I'd hang mine. Personal choice I guess

yes, minimalism is about whats comfortable for you, and your comfort of breathing space.

I have been on this journey with you since the beginning and I have to say congratulations to you! Fantastic job!!!
Try command strips to hold things without having them move. They’re a game changer.
Love those Robert Jordan books in the background lol the things that caught my eye
I love that you had a blue period, like Picasso!

I truly enjoy watching your progress😀
An idea for the Lat./Long. hangings... 3m makes velcro hangers.... great for pics, like a series... they stay where you put them.
Great work guys! Someone who’s looking for blue frames is about to score Big! Lol
For the wooden signs you can use
I-hooks and small chain to attach them together!
Loved this video! FOR THE PLACE NAME SIGNS, consider asking the Etsy shop that has similar ones if they can do custom work to make it look like what you have. I've done that before and had success.
Very satisfying video! Great job! You should be proud of all of your accomplishments!
Rebeca's reaction when reading the picture....so lovely😍
There is always a lot of frames when I go to the thrift store. Use command strips to hang those pictures to keep straight.
Love watching ur purging videos… u have come a long way girl!!
I love how you do it together to talk through it!

Love Andy's shirt! My brother-in-law brews. And you are looking extra healthy Mrs. Lucas! Thank you for being YOU!😍

You can put sticky tack on the corners of frames to help them stay aligned better.
If you put museum putty on the backs of the frames it will stick them to the walls and keep them level.
