Erica, you inspired me to write a poem: These Clothes I Do Not Wear I do not wear them in the winter I do not wear them in the fall I do not wear them spring or summer I do not wear these clothes at all The season's come to let them go now The season's right to set them free The reason's simple: I am changing And now these clothes do not suit me (You can substitute specific items..."these skirts", "this blouse"...in place of "these clothes" if it helps.)
I find avoiding processed food almost completely, only eating at meal times, and increasing vegetables rather than thinking about cutting things out really helps with maintaining a healthy weight and feeling healthy. But you are totally right ... accept yourself how you are right now at whatever size you are at, no sense in wasting time beating yourself up! View every healthy choice and walk as a mini victory, and don’t beat yourself up about the times when it didn’t quite go as planned! You are such a strong person I know you will achieve your goals!
About losing weight: - Stop taking the antibaby pill and you lose weight immediately. The apetite is just not that big anymore. - Skip processed food because they contain a lot of hidden sugar (even stuff like canned tomatoes). Eat much vegetables and rice instead. Skip meat and wheat products. - Get yourself tested on food intolerances.
We enjoy your "ramblings" very much! It's actually helpful to hear you talk it out during the decluttering process because you make some excellent points along the way.
When I was a larger size I hated myself and dreamed of being smaller and now that I am the size I always wanted to be I would do anything to go back beacuse I lost all the weight because I got very ill and will never be healthy again and no I did not get ill beacuse off excess weight, so as long as you are healthy be happy with your size
I've seen people say before "clothes are meant to fit us, we're not meant to fit the clothes" - i think that's so important. if the clothes are the wrong size, that's their problem, not yours hehe
You are talking to me not yourself alone... I have been all over the number scale and I love being reminded to love and appreciate the season I am in! Thank You and please keep letting us hear from you!
It's amazing how we are different ages, sizes, from different continents, with different cultures and raised differently, but still face the same self image struggles as women. Hope you know you are not alone, we all feel the same about our fluctuating weight 💕
We need to be kinder to ourselves. Our bodies bear and care for families. You inspired me to part with my non stretch shorts that don’t fit and bring judgement thoughts to a few knit pairs and more sundresses that can handle season of life weight changes. Thank you for your body positivity. Much appreciated.
As I gained weight getting older, I realised that I'm built for comfort. I refuse to wear anything that digs in or clings. I donated all my smaller sized clothes. It does feel great to know everything I own actually fits. You have done an amazing job decluttering.
I have a few body shaper/spanx type things. As I have gotten older and hurt more,I also refuse to wear anything that digs in or clings, and since I haven’t even bothered to wear them with the last few “dressy” outfits (weddings, parties, etc.) out they go,who cares!😞🙌🏻😅😂👏🤣
My only strategy for weight loss that has worked for me is light occassional exercise with gentle intermittent fasting (16/8). That way I only have to resist eating for a couple of hours in the morning and in the evening when my worst snacking used to happen. I also try to get a green and orange veg in each day. Dieting where I'm hungry all the time just doesn't stick. And I'm working on the exercise bit. If I exercise more than 3 times per week, I always end up getting sick!
Please keep making videos about accepting our bodies..... all bodies! This was the most uplifting video for me as a real mom and wife. Body positivity!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
If I really like the clothes that are a size or 2 smaller I kept in a tote in storage. When I lose some weight I can go “shop” the bin before having to go buy something. I only keep clothes I really really like, not everything.
My inner voice can be such a big B-word! Lol She’s negative, illogical, emotional and doesn’t listen to reason! I’m working on my relationship with her! Thank you for the motivation I’m heading to my closet right now! 😀👍🏻
Leave it to Erica, to film a declutter video and self love video all in one. If some article of clothing brings us down OUT it goes.... we can always as you said treat ourselves to something new down the road.... xo
I just like that your husband is comfortable being in your videos (or at least presents as such). It's nice to see couples doing decluttering on UA-cam because other than some of the 'big name' guys you see, most of the folks you see in decluttering vids are women. This isn't bad thing at ALL, but seeing men and/or couples working together to declutter makes for a refreshing change. So thank you. And yes, he does look good in that loungewear. My compliments!
Life is too short to allow clothing sizes to bring you down. I am 47 years young & have allowed my size to control so many aspects of my life. Started 2021 & I no longer keep any clothes that don’t make me feel great. I have found getting dressed is so much easier. This change has brought on better habits too! I no longer body shame myself. Loving myself & setting small changes has allowed me to lose a few pounds which led to a few more small changes. I feel better & it shows. Congratulations on making the decision to do 100 walks. Remember small steps to change = great success. Keep up the awesomeness!
Probably one of my favorites out of all your videos....truly a being honest about your belongings, and how to talk through what to keep, and what to let go of. I need to tackle my closet again, and I believe I'll talk through my decisions!
I own a fairly limited number of clothing items and tend to wear them for a long time. I always keep the pants that are one size above and below my current size in a separate drawer. They come in handy periodically, as my weight fluctuates.
Well done on the decluttering and a I like when you talk it out. Thanks for reminding us to push that critic to the side and to love and mind yourself.
Enjoyed your video today! (As usual) lol. It's so awesome that you are sharing your life with us! I became disabled 2 yrs ago and am menopausal. I had to go through my clothes so many times smh. So very glad I did! Fantasy self went first! Good riddance! Then too big, too small, bad feelings. Nobody has time for those! I also had to accept my new reality. I want to be able to get in and out of my clothes by myself I want to enjoy the independence that brings. It's a point of view and realizing that people remember who we are and how we treat them. Everyone will describe our looks differently. We are always our own worst critics.
I love your honesty! Most of us are in the same boat with you. I love your idea of 100 walks! I am a healthcare provider and I tell all of my patients, especially my diabetic patients, to try to walk 10 minutes after each meal to help utilize glucose. Keep that in mind - it doesn’t always have to be 45 minutes!
This was so real; I have all the struggles, too. My inner voice channels meanness from growing up in a critical family and culture, too. Picking a line and overriding that voice does not come naturally and the work never ends. Thanks for sharing.
What has worked for me long term is to just count the number of servings of vegetables and fruits and aiming for 10 a day -- potatoes don't count. Haven't lost a ton of weight fast but over last 5 years have permanently lost 25 pounds.
I looove your "rambling", it lets us see how you are thinking and how you reason with yourself. I have all those feelings too, and your journey make me feel that I'm not alone! Neither are you. How about we (all who wants to join in) make this 'the summer of a 100 walks' together? I'm starting now! 💪🏽
I saw that too --- too large? It can get taken in. Too small? It can get downsized for a kiddo. Or, repurposed as trim on another item or made into decor. Those Kohl's pants maybe could have gone back to the store. Or, sold on fb. All You Declutter is Not a Loss...
Regarding the guilty/discouraged feelings over weight issues, I find that what works best for me when I find my weight going up again (I've been going up and down by a few pounds for many months now) is to contemplate what I was doing and how I felt at a time when I /was/ maintaining my preferred weight. That's one way to narrow down the routines or habits or mental stresses that might need to be adjusted, things that have crept up such as snacking in the evening, for example, and then feeling guilty for lack of self-control, then feeling a bit depressed over all of that, along with other stressful matters. Suddenly you've gained five pounds and it feels so discouraging. This can be approached in an 'onion layer' sort of way, beginning with something as little as eating more lettuce and adding five minutes to a walk, or having a sandwich with one slice of bread rather than two, that sort of thing. For me, it's anxiety that is my worst enemy. I find that if I can face my anxiety in a calm way, then I can avoid the need to eat for comfort and I am less depressed and thus more physically motivated and in better shape to handle stressful issues. This almost always results in excess weight dropping off to what I consider my 'ideal' weight. Perhaps a variation of this sort of strategy can help to bring you out of the 'yo-yo' pattern.
Thank you Erica for another authentic and inspiring video. My inner voice is mean too, let's shut those voices up once and for all. We are more than our bodies. You are beautiful as is, I love and appreciate you!!💞
What a fantastic transformation of your wardrobe! You are indeed a brighter, more confident person than when you began as a "minimalish". Congratulations! A wee tip to help you lose weight : fill half your plate with salad or green vegetables. As Kate West wrote: try avoiding processed foods and cut back on dairy. It's a new lifestyle, not a diet. I lost 40lbs, 5-6 years ago, with no exercise until later and they have stayed off (with the odd "7lb-wobble" if I eat too much bread or chips (we call them crisps). Now I'm lighter, I love to walk. Erica, you can do whatever you set your mind to; you've shown us that already. Enjoy your summer! Thanks for your honest, funny posts.
Erica, before you started saying the parts about the shorts being too small and how it is doscouraging, I was thinking to myself "She has lost more weight! Look at her go! I wonder what she's doing so maybe I can try it!" Feel good about what you've already accomplished and be motivated to do it until you feel comfortable and healthy. You look great!
I do really hate setting high expactations for myself and end up not doing it because it feels so unachievable. And you are right: even a 5 Minutes walk is better than nothing. Sometimes we are in phases in our lifes where we just can't do things because we don't have the mental capacity. And that's ok. We can't bloom all around the year.
If it makes you feel better I only have one pair of jeans! Based on your closet you love skirts and dresses! Enjoy that you love those kinds of clothes and don't worry about only having a few pairs of jeans. As you know, the less clothes you have, the less laundry you have to do! Haha. I finally figured out my style, now just trying to figure out my colors. I am so happy to have my wardrobe for all seasons (including formal wear) to be about 60 pieces. I might try to bring it down but I am happy with the progress.
Erica, You are safe and you are cherished. It is not a fluke that we are all drawn to you and feel grateful and happy to spend time with you (sorting clothes, talking things through... Anything! lol). Although our connections are facilitated by the internet, we respond to you as the woman you are. We value you because you are Quite a Woman and Quite a Soul. Cherish yourself for us. The internet is like old fashioned pen pals and is as valid in helping us see that we are Valuable and that we make the world a better place. You are Important and valuable. Now go have fun and give yourself a great big hug from our souls to yours. : )
Oh Erica, you are an awesome human being. I so wish society would allow us to be kinder to ourselves!!! However, you are on the correct path and as long as you are happy and healthy that is what counts! ❤️
This could have been me cleaning out my closet last year, lol! "I have more things that are too big or small than I do that actually fit me!" AMEN! I've been on a weight loss journey, very slow & steady, so I know there are things that WILL fit again. I made 2 bags for storage - one of stuff that WILL fit again (my size larges!) and one full of my winter stuff. I was in a purging mood so anything i didn't like or feel happy about was donated. Around the same time I happened to stumble across a stylist on YT that talked about choosing clothes that complement our coloring. I really focused on that aspect and it turns out most the clothes I avoided in my closet were - guess what! - bad colors for me! I pared down about 75% of my closet and am so much happier now. I like to wear everything in there and it's so easy to get dressed now.
I walk everyday that I can! It really does help maintain my weight. I shoot for at least 3 miles, but will take what I can get. Today was a wash as it has literally poured rain all day.
Would love to hear more about your 100 walks idea. My son is getting married this fall and I need some encouragement. You usually do that for me. Thank you.
Yay for decluttering clothes that are too big! But really, if your goal is to continue loosing weight then I would keep all the items that are too small but of course not keep them in your closet to make you feel guilty.
Two books I’m reading and enjoying are Body Clutter by Marla Cilley (The FlyLady) and Healthy As F*ck by Oonagh Duncan. Both books are about incorporating small healthy habits into your lifestyle. I need small and easy rather than a complete overhaul, because I want something I will stick to. Good luck with your 100 walks.
Eric this was very motivational, and eye-opening. I love that you’re so real about life, motherhood, and weight. It is crazy the emotions that this video brings to the surface. Thank you for sharing your journey I’ve been following you since you got back from vacation and decided to start the minimalist path. I just wish I had started it with you I would be so much further ahead. 🌸
Thank you for being so real & relatable. Your 100 walks is a great idea. I have discouraged myself because of physical limitations but if it doesn't matter how long the walk is I know I will be encouraged & 100 walks is definitely doable!
Erica something that has worked for me to incorporate exercise is to give myself a limit. Just like people often do with cleaning, I set a timer and do ONLY so much. I used to keep increasing my time (typically on my elliptical) to try and beat my last time. Since I was always trying to beat my previous number, I would get where I was using ALL my free time and some in the morning to work out. By the time my daughter woke up I often times would have worked out an hour or more and was then exhausted, needed to shower, wasn’t ready for the day, etc. Or I thought - I don’t have time to beat my previous number so I am just not gonna work out. Now I ONLY do 30 minutes. I can adjust the resistance level or incline to challenge myself but not the time. Also, I listen to audio books or watch youtube videos and I LOVE making the time for myself. It has been slower to see progress but I am seeing it. Good luck with whatever you do.
😂 Talk therapy is so effective. Welcome to my world 🌍. Together we know how we'll deal with 1/2.of last year's seasonal clothes not fitting🤷from now on. The fortunate thing is there is clothes out there that fits us well. I did the walking thing with new sneakers....park walk way was full of goose crap!!!
My suggestion would be to buy a really nice set of hangers for your wardrobe (maybe wooden hangers). The same hangers for the whole wardrobe so that it looks really nice and uniform. If find it really makes the wardrobe look better, it makes me enjoy my wardrobe and makes me want to keep my wardrobe clean. It's just so much nicer to be in. Something that also helps is to have as little possible on the floor, it makes the space look larger and cleaner. Good job on your decluttering!
Oh lord, you just made me realise i should do this too. Even tho its winter here, we're pretty mild. This isnt fitting well for me. Ill consider it. I mean, a lot of those might be around the block... sometimesi need to talk things thru too 😆. Sigh. I think I'll put a tally sheet on the fridge...
@@greatauntlizbethg9137 go for it 😊 like Erica says, some days it might be 5 minutes! It's summer here in Wales and I've just come back from a walk to the Allotment 2 down 98 walks to go. 🚶🏴
Your inner voice sounds so much like mine. Why do we do this to ourselves?!?! I don't walk much anymore as I have a lot of pain in my feet. My weight has sky-rocketed 😢 I like your 5 minute idea. I would like to watch videos of your journey if you want to share. I'll definitely be cheering you on!
"I'm hesitant to get rid of stuff because now I don't have things." Ahh, but see you still don't have things by keeping them. Having kept those hasn't given you more. The Illusion of more items equaling your having more when they aren't actually usable or serving you.... and I think that was such a picture when you identified having more clothes that were too big or too small than ones that fit. Caught between the past and fantasy future self. To honor where you are now as you continue on your journey
Good video, I have the same inner voice and yes, she is mean sometimes. I am trying to gear up to declutter my big, full, walk in closet. I don't think I can get down to as few things as you have but this is an inspiration for sure. I also love the number of walks idea. That seems like something I can do. A few years ago I lost about 35 lbs and the way I started was to never think about giving up food items but adding the right things instead. I made sure I had a cup of berries plus one other fruit each day either to eat or in a smoothie, I also made sure I added a meal size salad (at least 5 cups of low carb veg and protein) plus either a side salad with another meal or 2 cups cooked veggies with another meal. When you add in all the good things you should be eating, you don't have room for some of the not so good stuff. This mind shift was amazing for me, made things remarkably easier. I know you don't need diet advice but I always feel that I can pick up some little tidbit from other people's experiences so I tell you anyway.
What a practical and sensible way to make a change. Thanks for sharing! I need to eat more fruit so I'm going to try adding one more fruit serving a day. :)
encouragement self talk is the best. I keep a donate box in the closet so I don’t have to make a production out of getting rid of any kind of clothes. It itches...in the box. When the box is full into bag and out the door.
Weight loss comes down to a calorie deficit. I would focus on nutrition for weight loss and exercise as secondary as a bonus and to feel good moving your body. I know you can do it. I have lost 60 pounds and kept it off for 10 years!
I've been efficiently doing this at the start of each season, for ages. But it's amazing how bad i am at discarding the things i haven't worn! *smiles sheepishly *
Awesome you have done a great declutter ✅ I always remove labels as I find them annoying & uncomfortable. Wishing you good luck with the walking 🚶♀️ & I love your ramblings lol from Israel 🇮🇱 ❤️
Inspirational! Have you thought about getting the jeans/pants that are too big taken in? If you like the fit, sometimes I’ve found it easier and cheaper to have pants tailored if they get too big. Well done that they are too big, Erica!!!
Thank you so much for your honesty and being so real! You, your videos, your encouragement and realistic goals in life are so inspiring!!! You make my heart smile and help me feel better! You are so a blessing!!!
I LOVE the 100 walks idea!! I am six months pregnant and constantly exhausted, but I am definitely going to be using the 100 walks thing as a goal for myself...I probably won't even set a deadline for it or anything.
I hear ya! And I am doing the very same thing with my closet. Time to set some things free! I have looked at so many pictures and was slimmer….but wasn’t living that day happy. Enough. Hugs to yiu. ❤️😀👋🌸
Please treat yourself to some matching hangers, the flat velour ones can be purchased at Dollar Tree, the cream ones would be a nice compliment to the blue bins.
When I start my journey to lose weight I bought a pair of jeans and a shirt the size which I want I hang them in front of my wardrobe it took me almost 1 year and half but I am proud that I made it
I like your 100 walks goal! It’s specific enough to give you a fixed goal, but flexible at the same time. I might steal this idea! (Although I think I’d need to set a goal of how many walks per week, to stop me procrastinating)
Hi, Erica. Great job. Will you do a video where you play the minimalist game? (get rid of one item on day one, two items on day two, etc. for an entire month) They are my favorite decluttering videos.
I am sending love to the mean voice inside of our dear Erica and whispering, "You don't have to be mean anymore. Whatever is making you say mean things to her can dissolve in the soft beauty of summer and in knowing that you can have a much better sense of meaning in being within such a Bright Loving Wonderful soul and woman. Erica, our Soul Love for you can outshine the remnants of whatever role that voice thought it was supposed to play. Find loving kind things to say to yourself when the voice forgets that it can have a happy new life of joy inside of truly wonderful you.
You were explaning how many shorts you have and I was thinking, how many do I have. Well, 2 cotton for sport and 3 jeans for everyday use. I am not a minimalist, have a lot of skirts for work and dresses for home 😉 Nice video. Thank you.
Love how you are talking about what YOU know/feel is doable for you and agree with your idea of apreciating the moment no mather what size whe are...and find your decisiveness inspirational ! Thank you for mentioning your 'inner voice'....and hope that at the end, you also will be friends with her...
Erica, you inspired me to write a poem:
These Clothes I Do Not Wear
I do not wear them in the winter
I do not wear them in the fall
I do not wear them spring or summer
I do not wear these clothes at all
The season's come to let them go now
The season's right to set them free
The reason's simple: I am changing
And now these clothes do not suit me
(You can substitute specific items..."these skirts", "this blouse"...in place of "these clothes" if it helps.)
Awesome! ☺️👌🌼
Well Done 👏👏👏
This is great!!! ❤🌞😀
Love it :D
“My unmentionables, which I just mentioned.” The giggle I needed today.
"Sometimes my inner voice...She's MEAN!" 🤣🤣🤣 LOL, yeah Erica, mine is too.
I agree!
How are you?!! Now that I’m not working 60 hours per week, I can finally watch my friends again 🌟🌟🌟
Hey!!! Can’t wait to catch up!!
@@EricaLucasLoves yesssss!!! It’s been too long 💗💗💗
I love the ending, "Now I'm rambling. If you enjoy that, please like and subscribe." I love it!

Love your idea of 100 walks! Totally stealing it! 😊
Vlog your 100 walks, Erica✨ We want to be there with you 🥰 and cheer you on🎉
Enjoyed your closet declutter. I get it. If you don’t like the way it feels or fits, discard it. Very nice.
Girl, you could inspire us all to do 100 walks!! We could all do it together!!!!
Thank you Erica for another authentic and inspiring video. My inner voice is mean too, let's shut those voices up once and for all. We are more than our bodies. You are beautiful as is, I love and appreciate you!!💞
Thank you for the no bs bedroom chat.
Welcome!
So wish I could go walking with you.💕 I like the idea of number of walks I think that might motivate me 😊
If it makes you feel better I only have one pair of jeans!
Your decluttering muscles are STRONG! I am not quite as 'toned' as you but you are very motivating to watch.
Oh Erica, you are an awesome human being. I so wish society would allow us to be kinder to ourselves!!! However, you are on the correct path and as long as you are happy and healthy that is what counts! ❤️
Of course we love your rambling, thats why we're here! So relateable.
It’s summer! Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, less processed food, swim/do water exercise, nature hikes...ENJOY! You’ll feel fit and happy! ❤️
Thank you for showing that’s ok to walk without a limit
Thank you.
Thank you for giving me the push to declutter my closet today! 🙏🏻
I like the 100 walks .I have health issues so this would work for me. Love your attitude.
The 100 walks idea is fabulous! I’m going to try it too. Thanks for sharing. 😊
I am like you this summer😊.
I always push it forward.
Instead of starting now!!
Thank you for being so real & relatable. Your 100 walks is a great idea. I have discouraged myself because of physical limitations but if it doesn't matter how long the walk is I know I will be encouraged & 100 walks is definitely doable!
Oh yes. Love that side by side before and after!
Andy’s second best outfit. The first, of course his Uniform!
100 walks... Brilliant idea. Can I join in? Today 40 mins to the allotment and back. Go Erica👍
@@gjones9409 did a decent walk yesterday. 99 to go :)
You inspire me to continue my journey of decluttering, donating and enjoying my home. Thank you so much.
Erica have a read of a book called 'Delay, Don't Deny' by Gin Stephens. Highly recommended for health.
You decluttered like a champ: You go girl!!
Your closet looks inviting and easy to maintain. Great job!
You are amazing. I declutter just like you. Get rid of all things that do not fit! 😀😀😀
Weight loss comes down to a calorie deficit. I would focus on nutrition for weight loss and exercise as secondary as a bonus and to feel good moving your body. I know you can do it. I have lost 60 pounds and kept it off for 10 years!
BEST VIDEO! So identifiable.....that closet now makes me feel calm...teehee.
I’m ready to turn my hangers backwards to help me see what I really choose to wear. I find that technique helps me
I've been efficiently doing this at the start of each season, for ages.
Andy is a pretty good model! Great job.
When I start my journey to lose weight I bought a pair of jeans and a shirt the size which I want I hang them in front of my wardrobe it took me almost 1 year and half but I am proud that I made it
I have so many fantasy self clothes....looks like I am decluttering this weekend
Love the 100 walks idea!
This was so encouraging. I like your 100 walks goal.
Me too. You are so smart to know what motivates you personally.
