This school year will be our 4th year at LUOA. We love it. It’s worth every penny. My kids are very happy with it, and my daughter will graduate at 17 with her HS diploma AND her Associates Degree. This makes it very cost effective.
I think it's amazing that you have found a way continue to homeschool as a single dad!!!!!!! I am one of those moms that piece together different curriculum. But I know my husband wouldn't want to do all that research & extra work. He would want an all-in-one.
We’ve used only these books… KJV Bible, McGuffey, Rod and Staff for English… Life of Fred for math. We have two children on full academic scholarships at university currently. Shalom 🤓
I have been homeschooling our 5 kids each from pre-school to grade 12...started in 2002 with eldest and finished 2022 with the youngest. I used Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) from School of Tomorrow in the USA. We live in South Africa. No matter what curriculum one uses....all are better than the state schools 😅
We added Campfire Curriculum units into the mix this year. It is designed by dads for dads to get involved with homeschool, even if it's just 20 minutes a day. Right now we are going through the Natural Medicine unit, and the kids are really enjoying it. I think we will do their gardening unit next, and the camping unit right before the next sukkot. :)
My child is on her 3rd year at LUOA and we love the simplicity and the parent dashboard. I have never had a problem at LUOA I even had a parent teacher conference live with my child teacher. They’re pretty great in my opinion
We are looking to start this next school year at LUOA. Can I ask about how much time your child works on schoolwork each day? I’m just trying to gauge the amount of work given and the time it takes to accomplish it each day. Obviously, some will work faster and some slower but trying to get an idea so I can plan this coming year. Thank you!
I'm kind of sad to hear that LU is still getting beat up because of what Jerry Falwell's son did. I lived in Lynchburg for about a year, grew up about 45 minutes from it, so I'm very familiar with its culture. Jerry was a complicated man, he was human, but he started a pretty good school. And that school had to compete with nearby Virginia Tech and Radford University to the south, JMU and others to the north, and it has expanded to be a forceful presence in its own right. When Jerry passed and his son took the reins, he actually did pretty good with it at continuing the growth, including the online stuff. It was unfortunate that he also was human and committed some indiscretions. And they got rid of him very quickly. I will say this, as a product of one of those other colleges, I have seen far worse things happening in the private lives of many of those individuals than what Falwell's son did. In fact, it pales in comparison to most of our politicians themselves. It's just that he was held to a very high standard, as he should've been. But I don't see how it should have ever impacted the school, its curriculum, or peoples perception of the school. It offers a good faith based mixture (which is a breath of fresh air compared to some of the other colleges around us). Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox. I'm glad that you are getting value from their homeschooling stuff, and I'm sure that it isn't perfect, but then again none of them are. It's still better than the public schools. God bless you brother
I have worked for Liberty (a long long time ago) and even met my lady there. Liberty has been doing Home school and from home education in General (higher education) since VHS tapes were a thing. Sure everything has its cons. But Liberty is not a Scam and has one of the longest historical from home programs that exists. I do agree that the financial check in is a pain. Had that issue in the 90s too. You would think they would put together a team to work on that but who knows. Note that Mardels and the Master curriculum is excellent too. We use that for math.
I had the privilege of helping my DIL homeschool my two granddaughters and I loved every minute of the 18 years I did it. I couldn't tell you the curriculum she used but I thank God for teachers' manuals. The relationship I had with my granddaughters as a teacher was quite different than the relationship I had being their grandma. We did so many things together that were considered learning that are not part of public education. We went to museums and plays and nature centers and arboretums. I was so happy that we could team up to do this. The girls ate healthy food while learning. They had plenty of social enactment with other children without the "harmful" influence of children that had backgrounds so diverse in moral behavior. Both girls went on to graduate from university.
This video was God sent. Watching you for thr first time. I was looking for someone to talk about LUOA's math. My student has been using Teaching Textbooks and is doing well with it. Didn't want to "have to" do LUOA math. So sorry about your family's loss.
You're amazing! Thank you for this video. I, too, saw some of those coments just as we are about to dive into Liberty next year and was a little nervous. You debunking those coments solidified what I was thinking. Also, it's The Good and the Beautiful, haahahahaa! That made me giggle because The Bold and The Beautiful is a soap opera my Grandma used to watch! Anyway, thanks for all your videos and reviews. Can't wait for the one for the homeschool dads.
I used the Holt system. It is a Christian based program and we did fantastic with it. My children, at the end of the year, were 4 and 6 grades above the public school system. That is where they tested put in the SAT tests. I was very pleased.
YES!!! Thank you for speaking to the Dad's! My husband is very involved in our homeschool and it has made a world of difference for our 3 boys. It's not always easy, I'll admit, but it is the best for our children. We are in STL, sorry we missed you and your boys at the conference. They would have loved to meet you. Looking forward to the upcoming homeschool videos! And, I may be wrong, but the curriculum you may be thinking of is The Good and the Beautiful. Bold & Beautiful was a soap opera 😊
Please talk to the dad's, too many just view this as mom's territory and oftentimes, many mom's become overwhelmed but push through because it has to be done. I saw this a lot in our homeschool community. I homeschooled my 3 grandkids, 3 1/2 year between the oldest and youngest, and I did the piece together from different publishers. We combined all classes except for math. The first year when the oldest was Kindergarten age, I bought a full Abeka set...nope, lasted 6 weeks. I found out later he is on the autism spectrum and the colors of the books were too much for him. (I ended up starting a year "late" with him). We tried computer based switched on schoolhouse one year....FAIL!!! My youngest has always been gifted in the computer area and I found out he was going in and giving he and his siblings grades on incomplete assignments, bypassing the "security"...lol. (He is now earning certifications in cyber security)
My daughter did her senior year of high school on line with LU to graduate a year early. Both my son and daughter went to Liberty University and met their spouses there. I don’t judge people, we all have our own issues. Nobody is perfect in God’s eyes.
I am currently a LU student majoring in CMHC. I was wondering how your children graduated from LUOA early. My son’s current new school is trying to make him stay until 12th grade although he’ll be finished with the rest of his courses, complete the requirements, and credits by the end of the 11th grade in his public school. He is 15 and he only needs 6 credits to graduate from high school because he took a few 9th grade high school courses in the 8th grade. The school is trying to put him in courses he is uninterested in for this upcoming 11th grade year because they need to fill the gaps in his 11th grade schedule. My son has always been very independent. He asked to finish school online. LUOA was one of my options.
We've used Classical Conversations for 8 years now & love it...meets one day a week in community, and the rest of the week is at home... challenge level (Jr high and HS) is why we joined (looking forward, she was kindergarten at the time), and we're in our 2nd year of challenge and it's excellent!
For our Catholic family, we use the Mother of Divine Grace curriculum. It is a classical education rich in tradition. This year we will have students in preschool, Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 4th grade.
Thank you! I just enrolled all 3 of my children in LOUA. I work from home and decided to homeschool them this year after a negative experience at their current school.
My children are now grown adults and they attended public schools. As you know, everything has changed. I just wanted to say how happy I am that there are choices. These weren’t available many years ago. Now I’m trying to influence my children about schooling for the grandchildren. The evil world that was locked out when I was a child is now hiding in plain sight in public schools. The greatest success in your life is to get your children to safety outside of public school system! What could be more important than that?
We've recently changed to Simply Charlotte Mason. I've always used the Charlotte Mason Method but this is the first time using this specific curriculum. We're in a different season so sometimes you just have to change the rhythm. Love your channel by the way.
We do child led learning (aka unschooling but I hate that name because people think the opposite of what it is), we also do a mix of other things too such as Montessori and different workbooks for the basics. When they get a little older, we will be using the Tuttle Twins too.
I agree with you 100%!!!!! I currently have one child in LUOA online academy and WE LOVE IT! We have NEVER had any issues with submitting assignments, reaching support, grading, etc…. This is our second year with LUOA and I couldn’t be happier. I also have a younger child coming up to school-age soon and will be enrolling him as well. The teachers are compassionate and nurturing. They are always available to answer questions and help with assignments. I have to agree, the financial check-in process can be a little slow but it’s not terrible. This program is affordable and works well for our family.
@@prism3224 we’ve been with LUOA for 3 years. He just finished 6th grade, with straight A’s (again🤗). My youngest will be starting 1st grade with the same program, in July.
We love Generations curriculum. They just don't have math, so we use Masterbooks for that but the History, Science and literature are great with Generations.
I was a student at Liberty 10 years ago getting a masters in divinity. I had to work as hard for the masters as I did for my bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering. I was very satisfied with my experience from the quality of instructors, choice of books, communications, grading, online portal, and the curriculum. Positive experience. I would recommend their program for a masters. I have no experience with their other school levels.
I think when my son gets a bit older I will end up using an online school if I can find one that is acceptable in Canada. My husband will definitely watch the upcoming video he always watches your stuff. I would like him more involved especially seeing as anything can happen and I may not be here to do it! Shalom Zac hope everything is going good for you.
You may really enjoy a Teach Them Diligently homeschool conference... their sessions cover Christian parenting, the Christian family, as well as homeschool. I've learned a lot from them, and they have an amazing community of moms and dads. I have found the dads to really be involved there, which I think is important. --- As far as curriculum goes, I do a lot of what your late-wife did... I pull from different resources for the different subject areas. I have a 7th and 9th grader.
I grew up with Abeka and now so are my kids. My mom homeschooled me, my 2 sisters, and my brother from 1st grade through 12th with abeka books. Never used their planners or anything just used their books and built a schedule from them. Now my wife is working full time from home and I work full time outside the home and my MOM is helping homeschool our 5 kids! Again with abeka books. We looked at several different curriculums even several online options. Even tried some different things in the beginning with our kids and two different online curriculums for our oldest, but eventually went back to all abeka books for all our kids. And my moms amazing we couldn’t be homeschooling our kids right now if it wasn’t for her. She spends three days a week either at our house with the kids or kids go to her house and my wife handles the rest. I’m hoping to be quitting the job I’m at now this year and be working our homestead and building a UA-cam channel and running some workshops and classes at our place in Maine, and get to be more involved with my kids homeschooling next year! I currently work a job that keeps me on the road most weeks from Monday to beginning of Sabbath and I can’t wait to be in a position to be home full time!
I homeschool 8 children using the Charlotte Mason method like your late wife and yes it is time consuming! It helps that I use two months during the summer to organize everything for the whole school year to lessen my burden. I found that people from public school start homeschooling using these online places and treat it just like "doing public school at home", meaning they are just as hands off homeschooling as they were public schooling, and yes I know that will offend some, just my observation. When you homeschool you are the teacher and parent, regardless if you are the main teacher or not!
My daughter-n-laws use Heart of Dakota. They like that everything is set up already. When you purchase a grade, all the books come with the fee. My granddaughters are reading and learning so much. I think they changed math because one of the grades the math was confusing. The bible is interwoven in all the subjects as well.
This makes me feel better there is a way to homeschool with an actual diploma. My big problem is I've heard you have to get a GED if you're homeschooled and I don't like that idea. My son is only 2 so I haven't looked into school too much yet.
Thanks for putting this clip out. I volunteer as a board member on a Homeschool lobbying group in my State. I believe some of the negative feedback you receive regarding not building your own curriculum being”Homeschooled” comes back to the “legalese” terminology when working with the legislative process. 1). Many school districts offer the state run school program on line, that is public school conducted at home and when this is done the state still receives the over $3500 per student from the federal government just as they would if the child was in their classroom. 2) Every legislative season the inclusion of “Homeschool” students gets wrapped into legislation bills that will remove parental rights etc. taking away our state constitutional rights to determine our children’s education needs, programs etc. This frequently occurs with the offering of “tax funded vouchers”. When ever one takes government money they “must comply” with government requirements etc. Homeschooling offers true liberty in education for children and families. We have chosen to do mixtures of programs for our children who range from 2-19. My older 2 graduated with AA degrees before graduating from their home school high school program we developed for their completion. I’m not a chemist, I don’t own a chemistry lab, so it makes scents to send my kids (teens) to a local community college for specialty classes like chem 101. Many states offer a “dual enrollment” programs so your student takes classes on line or in person etc. I know this has been a verbiage communication issue in my state to ensure there is a clear line between the government run schools and anything a parent chooses for their child’s education. My $.02 Have a Blessed day and stay active as a Dad!!!
Im considering POWER curriculum im reading more into it but the curriculum seems very basic w an elective . It affordable for this single mom i only gave my 16 yr daughter finishing out 11&12 grade ! Shalom from Louisiana
I homeschooled my son. I wish I had a system that the on line schools now offer. Had no other choice but create my own system. It was during the late 90's. I am glad I don't have to deal with the public school this day. I would say look at the curriculum see if you think it would work for your family and each child. Mix and match and if your homeschooling your suppose to be a part of the daily routine so how a parent know is because they aren't involved and the child should go to public school
For math, I like Saxon Math the best. It works great for K-12. It gives you enough problems for every topic and then 1 or 2 problems for the past lessons. This gives the student the repetition over time needed to actually learn the specific topics. It also includes geometry with algebra 1 & 2, as all should. This allows the student to learn how the subjects interact with each other without forgetting one or the other. This also allows the student to complete the same subject matter in 2/3 of the time without and additional stress. I was homeschooled for 6 of the 12 grade, including 2 of the 4 high school years. I have an engineering degree and tutored college math for 6 years. In my experience you can’t get a better curriculum for math. I have also used abecca and one or two others but have never found anything that compares.
Public school online is free and it gives me the opportunity to point out the B.S. to my children and explain why it's B.S. It's probably not as good as paying a tuition to an online homeschool curriculum, but it does help my children learn to detect the B.S. they will run into in the world.
We can use ACE for my youngest (6), and a hodgepodge of stuff for my 15 yo. I hate to break it to you, Zach, but you’re not homeschooling…at least not completely…and that’s okay. Your boys are in an online private school. That’s a great choice for where you are at in life, and no one should find any fault with your decision in how your boys are taught. We don’t use online because I don’t like my kids on the computer all day, and I like seeing them diligently working, using their hands.
1st off, yes it is HOME SCHOOLING. They are at home and they are doing school. Liberty is just part of that experience. 2nd, they are not online all day. They spend about 4 hours a day doing school and the rest of the time they are playing, chores, running around, etc.
@@Anamericanhomestead you said yourself in the video that Liberty is an online school. Yes, they are at home and you are monitoring their schoolwork. I am not trying to offend you. I never said your boys are online all day. I said I don’t like my children online for schooling. ACE actually offers an online school now, I believe, and they do offer the same PACE curriculum through their accredited school. You have to do what works for you and what matters most for your family. I don’t lean so hard on the need for a high school diploma…my older 4 children have GED’s and are quite satisfied with that. It’s all perspective, and again, I’m sorry if I offended you. I understand your position as a single father and don’t begrudge your decision to have your boys in Liberty Online. 🙂
Hi! Thank you for the video, new homeschool mom here so this helped a lot. Question you say you supplemented the math can you share the math that you are using and was approved by LU. Thank you!
Unfortunately, LU changed their policy since I recorded this video and so we made a change. The math was Teaching Textbooks and we still use it because my kids really like it. But LU now says that you can't get a diploma from them unless you use their math. Soooo, we stopped using LU. We are now using Bob Jones University for History, English and Science for my youngest. We are using Apologia for science for my oldest. And still using Teaching Textbooks for math. We are still using Talkbox.mom for foreign language.
Thank you for that. I haven’t heard of Bob Jones University so I will look into that too. Do you have any opinions about Abeka Academy. I have a 10 year old going into 5th grade and a 8 year old going into 3rd grade, they’ve been in public school thus far but this topic has been heavy on my heart. My kids are way too exposed to things that here at home we’ve tried to shelter them from. Public school are the worst. I’ve been praying about this and I believe god wants me to pull them out as soon as possible. My oldest has changed so much and I worry that he’s most definitely picking up bad habits and behaviors from his environment at school. I can’t continue to send my kids to public school and lose everything I’ve tried to hard to instill and teach him. I just subscribed to you and forwarded you to by husband. Your views and your honestly is very inspiring and appreciated. If you have any more insight about how to navigate this change or opinion on Abeka I’d appreciate it. Do you like bob jones university for your family thus far?
Dear Nick and Kelli, You are taking this way too seriously. Your kids are in elementary school, for goodness sake. Homeschooling is wonderful because it can be flexible and formed to fit your children. Elementary school should especially be fun for everyone,,,student and parent. Just present the lessons, help your student understand what the lesson was and go on. Enjoy your children. Enjoy the process.
Hey Zach, I think you're confusing the 'complainers'? For example, in Wisconsin if you pay for the curriculum, you file the homeschool form. If you enroll in a public virtual school, and you pay nothing out of pocket, that's home education. That tends to be the biggest issue. Also, something to check out might be the Homeschool Resource Roadmap. The curator of the map is an ex public school teacher that quit her school job to homeschool her daughters. She has contacted every and any learning program/curriculum that she ever hears about, and still does and updates the list frequently. She finds out the stances of the company, and how they are, if they are, toned towards common core. Her girls graduated jn 2020. Just my thoughts.😅
How long each day do your kids have to spend doing their schoolwork? We looked at Liberty for our 2nd grader but they made it seem like she would spend 8 hours a day.
They probably spend around 4 hours a day...sometimes 5 at most. They also give you 10 months to complete 9 months worth of work so can work at your own pace.
The college tide is turning. Its no longer a badge of honor for homeschool parents to claim their kids are in college. Most now are avoiding colleges like the plague and it's totally understandable.
@@Anamericanhomestead My family is avoiding college! My three oldest are about to graduate my high school, and plan to continue "homeschooling" themselves into blue collar work with computer based careers on the side. They are learning it is best to start your own business and have multiple income streams.
What didn’t you like about LUOA’s math? I have a third grader and want math that is back to basics. We’ve experience the eureka garbage and don’t want anything to do with anything that remotely looks like that! Please respond! BTW great job!

After this last convention, I have a whole new level of admiration for Tuttle Twins than I had before. He is awesome!
Thank you for your comment!
How much is the tuition for each student?
@@mycabinlife1291 it’s about $275/month per student
What grade?
I looked into that conference as well. The GHC is very much Christian based and oriented. I enjoyed it.
Bob Jones is the best. We used it for 12 years!
They had a booth at the convention.
Charlotte Mason mom here too! And I agree with the time consuming, but this method of schooling has brought so much beauty to our lives! ❤
My $.02
Have a Blessed day and stay active as a Dad!!!
Education is never-ending........just enjoy the ride.
Sounds like they are sending bad reviews because they are mad the homeschoolers are winning the spelling bees.
Thanks for the info. How much emphasis is placed on religion with LUOA ?
I would have most definitely home schooled if I had to do it over again.
Are you and your family still using LUOA? Do you still like it? Would you still recommend it? I have a 9 and 5 year old in school
Awesome video Zach
Giving you a like and a follow for calling it “the bold and the beautiful” 😂 sounds like something my husband would say.😅
I want to homeschool my son, who's about to start Jr high. My husband is very against it, unfortunately.
Go for it. First his sake
Liberty U home school academy is very expensive.
Are you selling that shirt Zach?
I cant understand why money needs to be paid. All i care about are college entrance grades.
I used khan academy for math. It was fantastic.
@@beccajackson9942 Exactly!
What is the average cost per student
About $250 per month. All curriculum provided with the small exception of the occasional paperback reader they need. They usually cost about $5.
What didn’t you like about LUOA’s math? I have a third grader and want math that is back to basics. We’ve experience the eureka garbage and don’t want anything to do with anything that remotely looks like that! Please respond! BTW great job!
