In the books Serena and Blair are constantly fighting over Nate, whereas on the show it was a mistake Serena made once and regrets. His father is a really tough Captain, and his mother is a waify french socialite. 2. The characters in the books are a lot less focused on schemes and taking each other down, and a lot more consumed with their own individual crazy adventures like Dan becoming a poet, Serena becoming a famous actress, Vanessa as a DoP and Jenny becoming a model. They have a lot more random celebrity friends in the books. 3. There is a lot more references to strong drug use in a very casual way in the books like the ski trip with Georgina Sparks, or stealing the viagra from the teacher. 4. Overall the tone of the books is a lot more light hearted. The parents are barely involved in the children's life and they are often away, leaving their children completely to their own devices. 5. Vanessa's character is really awesome in the books and she has a lot more backbone. She is actually friends with Blair and Serena in the books and mostly pretty oblivious to the major class differences and she only cares about film. 6. Chuck's character in the books is also briefly gay! 7. Blair has 4 siblings in the books! 8. Rufus still always cooks in the books but he's a terrible cook and puts rum in everything! 9. Im a guy and i am late but this topic wasnt the thing to talk about at the time. nowadays it is way different. people arent scared to talk about it even on television. it was difficult to handle on tv.
possibly because its a story line thats been overdone so much already, cant believe people are still interested in it. I actually rolled my eyes at that episode. its just such a cliche writing. oh the pretty girl hanging over a toilet with masacara running down her eyes to still look pretty(eating disorder have been romantized so much im so fucking done with it) any teen drama series has had a center topic on eating disorders since the 80s lol.
To add another difference: in the novels, Blair is wait listed at Yale, doesn't haze a teacher and actually gets admitted. She also decides to pursue a career in law unlike in the TV show where she goes to NYU then Columbia and pursues a career in fashion like her mother. Also, in the novels Chuck & Blair do end up dating while running into each other during a semester studying abroad at Oxford but end up breaking up. It's never really stated whether or not they get back together. The last novel just shows Blair & Serena deciding to travel throughout Europe together leaving Nate behind and ultimately choosing each other over constantly fighting over him (which was also one of the main story lines throughout the novels and not in the TV series).
@@annerittwage1401 hi! I know it’s been 4 years but I literally just saw this comment now when I was notified that someone else commented on original post lol Yes, you’re right. In the novel (which is also portrayed in the show), Blair kisses her Yale interviewer on the cheek in a moment of panic and desperation after pretty much tanking her interview 😂 at least she got in in the books despite all of that
What about Aaron Rose. He was in almost every book and he was in love with Blair. I actually liked all the changes they made in the Gossip Girl show except their exclusion of Aaron Rose.
Greatest Eva he is, in the books though he was more frequently featured. We never see him again after him and serena broke up even though he is Cyrus' son
I think Ed Westwick brought so much to the character of Chuck they couldn’t help but make Chuck a forefront character. His and Blaires plot lines carried the show. Ed and Leighton have incredible chemistry and the writers worked around that. In regards to Rufus I think the writers were inspired by a Sandy Cohen type dad. (Same creators from the OC after all) i think they saw how well it worked there and replicated the same archetype dad with him. Approachable, loving, down to earth, full of good advice. Lily also reminds me or Kirsten now that i think about it so i think there was a lot of cross over ideas there.
@@moon.937 Doesn’t make it any better lol just because someone was “better” towards you (which Dan wasn’t at all either, she was so damn lost for the most time) doesn’t mean they are better for u. Dan fell in love with a character from his book and not Blair and unlike him Chuck actually loved her. And in the end they found their way to each other again 🤷🏻♀️ Chuck might have been an A class asshole to Blair but he grew and matured. He had an amazing character development. Dan and Blair had such a great friendship and imo they really shouldn’t have ruined that 🥴
it just didn't make sense tbh, and they should've toned down on all the haters to lovers- Chuck and Blair were fine as haters to lovers, but adding another one? seemed like they were too hungry for drama WHICH WAS UNEEDED.

Another difference between the books and the show...the whole timeline. In the show, the first season starts off with them being juniors in high school; second season, seniors. In the books, up until book 8 I think, it is set during their senior year of high school only.
Micah Williams it was pretty much like book 1 would be the first month of school so September, by book 7 it’s like late May/early June...something among those lines
I was skeptical about reading the books at first because of that, but they are SO good. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I feel like the author nailed the world of Gossip Girl in a totally different way than the writers of the TV show did
I beg to differ that Rufus and lily were a favorite, they were on and off so much...it was annoying. And they didn’t even end up together in the finale (not that they could) but damn...
honey monet since I read the books before I watched the show (and I didn't watch a lot of it), I could not get over the fact that Rufus and lily were brought even remotely close together. Completely different from the books. Why did everyone on the show have to be hot? Rufus was old, had a pot belly and was a slob.
Different strokes for different folks but I prefer to show especially with how much Chuck grew and how they handled Dan. Could have done without Dan and Blair dating. They could have just been good friends and it would have been fine.
I only got up to the 4th book in my teens (i plan on getting back into the series), but I remember thinking that Nate and Serena deserved each other... and I don't mean that in a good way. I didn't like either characters; I saw both of them as dumb airheads that never seemed to have their feet to the floor. I held much more respect for Blair despite how much of bitch she can be. She deserves much more than having Serena and Nate as they 'friends'.
I think it would have been nice if Eric was older and had a brief romance with Blair--it would be very juicy. I hate vanessa but if she has to be in the show I think it would have been interesting to stick with the book version.
Paul Pogba The Black Sensation oh they never dated each other in the books. Chuck is bi and dan was experimenting with another person that was not Chuck lol.
sharu812 I think she did at first, but then she stopped, she did idolise Serena in the first couple of episodes, so you could say she idolised them both

because the author worked as an executiv eproducer on the show i thought it was very similar to the books but i have been FOOLED wtf im buying the books today
Chuck had an amazing story arc in gossip girl but all the story arcs of the major characters were rushed to a climax in season 6. Why did s6 only have 10 episodes??? They had so much content to end the gg universe in a fulfilling way, i.e. showing a Blair labour scene with Chuck next to her holding her hands. That would have literally melted my heart
In the book they described Vanessa as a pale, bald girl whose wardrobe was filled with black shirts, but when i started watching the show I was so confused. Same with Eric, he was supposed to be older than Blair.
People hate Vanessa for No reason she deserved more air time and a way better story line even while being the hero it was misconstrued as her being an enemy. Which literally made no sense as though she adds humanity to every character

Everyone keeps saying that they forgot to mention how chuck was bisexual or gay in the books but he admitted to being with guys before in the past to Blair...
Jenny's boobs were such a major part of her character in the books, I don't even know how they thought up her role without them (and yes, I actually mean that. Her boobs were just as massive as the role they played in developing her story in the books. She even got her own literary spin-off. The "It Girl" book series). And the way the show portrayed Vanessa was really a shame. She was an adventurous, fearless, wild-hearted punk girl who sported a pale complexion, bald head, and her signature doc martens. I never got past episode 2 of this show. I read all the books when I was young. I was surprised and excited when I found out it had been made into a popular show. But the tv series is basically a completely different story line that used the books as only a starting point.
I like both books and show but if you thought the show was already the worst with everybody dating everybody, in the books everybody CHEATS on everybody, and nobody even minds.
OMG I'm so glad they changed it, the tv show is far much better like can anyone imagine Gossip Girl without Chair because I know I ceraintly can't. They were the reason I continued watching GG of course otherwise than the fact that the show is great.
Chelsea Canales So the actors are good looking, not a good reason to watch the show, especially with the rumors going around that Ed possibly raped 3 women.
Okay to everybody that hasn't read the books and watched this video thinking the books are boring; Watch Mojo did a shitty job explaining the books and what kind of feeling they had compared to the series. The books are amazing: deeper, darker, more interesting and at the same time more toned down. The only thing that is better with the tv-series is what they have done with Chuck and his relationship with Blair. When I first started watching the show I was so disappointed, but had to acknowledge that the show was a new story and had nothing to do with the characters I fell in love with in the books.
What’s better with the TV show is Blair. Leighton made the book character come alive and then some. Cecily Von Ziegesar, the writer of the GG novels, thought Leighton was “totally perfect for Blair”.
Love this show (on season 4 and I'm hooked) but Serena went from my favourite to hated. She was so mean towards blair (yes I know, blair can be mean too) but her character development keeps going downhill. She keeps going from guy to guy, hurting people and getting away with it and I hate how everybody does everything/everyone for her and I don't see why. It's chair that is making me want more ♡

Im a guy and i am late but this topic wasnt the thing to talk about at the time. nowadays it is way different. people arent scared to talk about it even on television. it was difficult to handle on tv.
But her bulimia is mentioned in the TV show, what are y'all talking about?
possibly because its a story line thats been overdone so much already, cant believe people are still interested in it.
I'm a little ashamed about how quickly I clicked on this
To add another difference: in the novels, Blair is wait listed at Yale, doesn't haze a teacher and actually gets admitted.
Wasn't there something about a kiss and she didn't get admitted at first?
i like this version!
@@annerittwage1401 hi! I know it’s been 4 years but I literally just saw this comment now when I was notified that someone else commented on original post lol
Yes, you’re right. In the novel (which is also portrayed in the show), Blair kisses her Yale interviewer on the cheek in a moment of panic and desperation after pretty much tanking her interview 😂 at least she got in in the books despite all of that
I remember reading the first book, and literally the whole book was just the first episode of the show lol
Aurora Anciso oh wow 😂
Omg really- well that would’ve been a bit boring. I’m glad they switched it up but I wished Serenate would’ve end up together.
Oh shit 😅
Yes, just what I tought.
What about Aaron Rose. He was in almost every book and he was in love with Blair. I actually liked all the changes they made in the Gossip Girl show except their exclusion of Aaron Rose.
I thought the painter guy that Serena dated briefly was Aaron Rose
Greatest Eva he is, in the books though he was more frequently featured. We never see him again after him and serena broke up even though he is Cyrus' son
I was in love with Aaron in the books, and he was so cute with Blair.
He was so boring
Actually, Aaron was in love with Serena both in books and show. He became Blair's brother when his dad married Blair's mom.
Please! Differences between The Vampire Diaries books and TV.
please do that
Thanks for the suggestion, Sabrina!
yes please
it would be easier to mention the similarities
Sabrina Diniz agree
“Book” Vanessa was WAY more interesting
I’m busy with my Homework, so I wanted to Skip the video. But then I saw the word Gossip girl😂
Good call, Yasmin :)
MsMojo Always 🙃
The Dan gay storyline is still more believable than that Dan/Blair romance 🤮🤮
i know like why d*n and blair
ikrrr what in the damn world were they thinking I couldn’t even watch that without cringing 😫
@@happychildforever9750 at least he never sold Blair for a hotel. You have to admit Dan treated Blair a lot better than Chuck did.
Dan and Blair had such a great friendship and imo they really shouldn’t have ruined that 🥴
it just didn't make sense tbh, and they should've toned down on all the haters to lovers-
Chuck and Blair were fine as haters to lovers, but adding another one? seemed like they were too hungry for drama WHICH WAS UNEEDED.
Damn, they should be shaved Vanessa's head.
Do top 10 differences between pretty little liars on tv and in books.

ANOTHER GOSSIP GIRL VIDEO😍yaaass!! thank you thank you thank you msmojo❤️
What can we say, we love Gossip Girl! Let us know if there's anything else related to the show that you would want to see!
MsMojo please do more O.C videos...great show same producer as gossip girl
Omg.... if chuck and Blair never happens I would be lost
I would have dropped the show!
Asvea haha me too tbh
The top pick should’ve been gossip girl’s identity was never revealed in the books
I can’t imagine it without chair being a big relationship
As a gossip girl books fan, when I first saw Blair and Chuck together I cringe so hard, but then I fell in love!! Best tv couple ever
Another difference between the books and the show...the whole timeline.
In the show, the first season starts off with them being juniors in high school; second season, seniors. In the books, up until book 8 I think, it is set during their senior year of high school only.
Scotti Brown 7 books about one year. Damn. Must have been a lot of flash back.
Micah Williams it was pretty much like book 1 would be the first month of school so September, by book 7 it’s like late May/early June...something among those lines
Scotti Brown wow. I can see why Serena ran away If months of my life was that dramatic. Shit.
This is the first time I even heard of a book xD
Me too didn't know there was a book
only reason not to read the gossip girl books: THERES NO CHAIR!!
Esme Purdon more like only reason to read the book
I was skeptical about reading the books at first because of that, but they are SO good. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I feel like the author nailed the world of Gossip Girl in a totally different way than the writers of the TV show did
Esme Purdon More like a good reason to read the books
Well, there is...
Ava Silvestri thanks! I might read them
I beg to differ that Rufus and lily were a favorite, they were on and off so much...it was annoying.
I'm glad the show deviated so much from the book. The book sounds very boring.
C Ewe the books are really good. I recommend.
Gossip Girl marathon after watching this lol.
Lilly Yarney SAME
Different strokes for different folks but I prefer to show especially with how much Chuck grew and how they handled Dan.
Could have done without Dan and Blair dating. They could have just been good friends and it would have been fine.
Can we talk about how much Nate and Serena were in love with each other? And that they should have been together not Serena and Dan😐
Sabrina Henning agree
preach. we should always talk about that!
It was kinda one sided for Serena it was always Dan.
I actually hope it would be Dan and Nate tho 😂😂
GG would be nothing without Chuck Bass his and blair's relationship was the best part of the show
Blair should have gone to Yale
Omg so true o was disappointed when she didn't get in Yale like WTF
I think it would have been nice if Eric was older and had a brief romance with Blair--it would be very juicy. I hate vanessa but if she has to be in the show I think it would have been interesting to stick with the book version.
Camille Weil same I hate Vanessa too. She got on my last nerve and how she treated Jenny ugh
but Eric is gay on the show and sam I also hate Vanessa
i meant keep the book version
Is it me or the books sound awful?
Cut me and I'll bleed Dior right!! They made it sound like the books were horrible
They still sound better than the show
The books aren’t the best but let me tell you they are addictive
I actually like the books better than the tv show.
The books ARE awful. They can't even be called 'literature'. TV show is so much better.
Dan was supposed to be bisexual? What? Why they changed that?!
So dan had a gay experience. Chuck is bi. Erick was actually straight and a player but they made him gay.
@@crysdee461 that would've have been so weird with Chuck and Dan lmao
Paul Pogba The Black Sensation I don’t know why you think that’d be weird lol...
@@crysdee461 because they pretty much hate each other
Paul Pogba The Black Sensation oh they never dated each other in the books. Chuck is bi and dan was experimenting with another person that was not Chuck lol.
Now i want to rewatch the show and read the books.
I thought Jenny idolized Blair in the show
sharu812 I was thinking the same thing! But I’m pretty sure that we’re right, she idolized Blair rather than Serena, I think they made a mistake 😂
sharu812 she idolized Blair on the show, but in the books, she idolized Serena.
sharu812 I think she did at first, but then she stopped, she did idolise Serena in the first couple of episodes, so you could say she idolised them both
sharu812 she did idolize her for most of it not Sarena.
I believe you need to watch the show again she wanted to be like Blair most of the entire show not Serena.
I literally just finished watching Gossip Girl today, now I am bing watching all the Ms Mojo videos about it!
In the French version of the books, Blair's name is Olivia *major shocking difference*
Jimi Desmet Yeah and in the TV show Tripp name is Seb like why
Thank god the editors changed that, cause I could never imagine chuck not being a major character
I literally just finished watching GG for like the 3rd time and I''m probably watching it again❤️
it is pleasant to know that most of the changes where for good. most shows and movies fuck up the source material in a bad way.
Lol i just noticed that they never mentioned Nate until the end
Nate was the least interesting character in the show.
Anneetta Life Agree. Everyone liked him because, I mean, he is Chace Crawford...
“You know u love me xoxo gossip girl.” Damn I will always remember that iconic line forever
Do this for Pretty Little LiArs!!!
lorettaluvs maxine chan 1.mona dies after falling off the cliff. 2.ezra is a Minor character only. 3.caleb doesn't exist in the books. 4.aria dates noel for most of the books. 5.toby was a creep in the books and he also commits Suicide. 6.hanna and Lucas dates on the books. 7.emily dates both girls and guys in the books and ends up ding dong ditching her baby. 8.hanna dates arias brother Mike. 9.theres no N.A.T club in the books. 10.hanna ends up in radley after -A exposes her bulimia (where as in the show it was spencer in radley). 11.No Spoby. 12.emily has 2 sisters and a brother. 13.ali's twin sister Courtney was the one who was friends with the girls (also mr Hastings is Ali and Courtney's father making them spencer and Melissa's half sisters).
Correction Hanna marries Mike & the rehab place is called The Perserve at Addison Stevens
Not gonna lie, I liked what Bart brought to the show as a character, and I wish they would've done more with his and Chuck's relationship when they brought him back.
The world needs more Gossip Girl videos !!!
I don’t care what anyone says, Rufus and Lily made the show for me. It’s a shame they weren’t endgame 💔👎🏼
Kirsten Zammit I know right!
They should've been 😭
they were tho right?
didn't they still get married?
They ended up divorcing....the best couple that stuck through the most in my opinion
Yeah same I really wanted them together so Nate and serena would be endgame
Chuck Bass is such an amazing character, how some fans can hate him is beyond me.
because the author worked as an executiv eproducer on the show i thought it was very similar to the books but i have been FOOLED wtf im buying the books today
I literally thank the show for Chuck Bass!
In the book they described Vanessa as a pale, bald girl whose wardrobe was filled with black shirts, but when i started watching the show I was so confused. Same with Eric, he was supposed to be older than Blair.
Looks like the books deal with a lot more important issues than the show, I'm thinking of listening to the audio books .
People hate Vanessa for No reason she deserved more air time and a way better story line even while being the hero it was misconstrued as her being an enemy. Which literally made no sense as though she adds humanity to every character
@@cierrajackson9982Vanessa and Georgina drugged Serena and got her sent to rehab….. Blair dated chuck who sa’d her best friend and Jenny. Y’all are comparing Serena’s boy drama to things that are ILLEGAL. Vanessa was not a good person .
I totally loved chuck involvement in the series
Didn't even know this show was based off books!!! I HAVE to read them all now! All of these difference omg
Chuck is my favorite character.
Ok but I love the little nod to the pet monkey by naming chuck’s dog monkey lmao
Hey do the vampire diaries and pretty little liars
jennifer karat There are more than 10 differences between Pll books and serie, maybe try 1000 differences

Anthony Fay THANK YOU
the books sound amazing and different entirely, kinda wish we’d got to see it in a truer form
Adrienne Paige the books are like a parallel universe but they’re SOOOO GOOD
I don't know about ya'll but I prefer the series over the books tbh
The series sounds SO MUCH BETTER than the books I couldn't live without Chuck Bass being a major character
Y'all forgot about Chuck being gay in the books. Half way through the book series Chuck comes out as gay.
Lloyd Williams really?
Low key glad he didn’t coz him and Blair are my otp
I just finished the show tonight and the comment section on this video is a safe place to put my GG post depression. CHAIR IS MY AIR LITERALLY
Alright... just don't date guys like Chuck in real life... trust me....
Can you do it for The Vampire Diaries?
Ellie Fairy yes please
Everyone keeps saying that they forgot to mention how chuck was bisexual or gay in the books but he admitted to being with guys before in the past to Blair...
Another thing, apparent in the books, gossip girl is never revealed
Chair?
@@velmadoo626 Chuck+Blair=Chair
3 reasons why girls watch the show:
Chuck Bass
Dan Humphrey
Nate Archilbald
Can’t blame them, though
Chelsea Canales
Correct
Incorrect
Incorrect
Chelsea Canales chuck and Nate for sure not so much dan
Only reason
CHUCK AND BLAIR 😉
Hell no. I watch for the clothes.
HAVE YOU SEEN THE DRESSES?
Also, Nate. To this day, Chase Crawford is a babe.
It's chair that is making me want more ♡
yeah Serena was by far the best character in season 1. I just hate how the writers destroyed her
I live for point 6!!! Lily and Rufus forever!!!
so basically the tv series is far much BETTER than the books
this show right here made my childhood awesome
i would’ve made such a good jenny humphrey if she was totally based off the book
-curly brown hair
-large breasts
-short
I LOVE RUFUS AND LILY. they are literally my favorite
I’m a normal person i saw gossip girl i click.
Chuck's dog's name now makes a lot more sense😂
