Happy Maggot Monday! :D I couldn't think of a song with lots of Sid, but Not Long for This World would be one, right? And The Nameless? Anyway, hope you enjoy this one!
The lyrics are, like you said, on another plane. I remember that when it first come out there was a lot of speculation if it was about Joey, but Corey said it wasn't. My favorite from this album is sarcastrophe, looking forward for your reaction.
You’re right it’s hard to fill the shoes of somebody like Joey, and due to the controversy surrounding his departure people didn’t necessarily hate Jay at first but I do think a lot of us resented him. That said he has earned his place and proved himself more than worthy. As for The Gray Chapter, it’s a tough choice between Skeptic because it is an amazing tribute to Paul and Custer for the pure anthem vibes.
I think in a way every song on this record is somewhat about Paul in one way or another, some are more obvious than others. Songs about Paul are more like: XIX AOV Skeptic Lech Goodbye Nomadic The One That Kills the Least If Rain is What You Want Songs that are kinda their own thing: Sarcastrophe The Devil in I Killpop Custer But even still these are like you said touched by him in one way or another, certain lines and what not. Personally I wouldn't say this sounds like We Are Not Your Kind. I think what's happening is they are the two most RECENT albums, so they do share production qualities, and Orphan and The Negative One as clown would call them are "barn burners" so they're the same style of song. But your opinion is valid and I haven't thought of it that way before, I may need to revisit this one soon and compare!
My favorite song from .5 is The One That Kills The Least, but I also really like the two bonus songs (The Bruden & Override), and Goodbye, even though they don't sound very Slipknot-like. And I also enjoy The Negative One very much, .5 in general, so it's very difficult to decide.
I was supportive of Jay knowing his history from Against Me and especially when he filled in for his dad for Bruce Springsteen, aftering hearing this song a year before .5 was announced sold me on his intensity and speed that really added some much needed punch for their 5th album
I would suggest you react to Custer. Just sayin. Has some of those cool siren type sounds probably from Sid. Corey also sounds incredible. Thx for another great video!!!!
As for my favorite songs off of this album, all of them as I am a fan of musical diversity and this album is filled with it, not nearly as much as We Are Not Your Kind but I enjoy it nonetheless
Just post Paul's death, Corey Taylor and Shawn Crahan clashed with Joey Jordinson and his health/drug abuse. Jay Weinberg is a generational drummer, IMO, hos dad Max Weinberg is a great drummer to and he says that Jay surpassed him talent wise when he was a teen. Jay and Joey are about the same height and sit at the kit about the same way.
I agree, Corey's lyrics are on another level. If you see Corey's interviews he's a very intelligent, very thought out, very well spoken guy. He chose rock, but he's one of those people that has so much drive and so much intelligence he probably could have been pretty much anything he wanted to be ... lucky for us he chose rock. Sarcatastrophe is my favorite song off The Gray Chapter.
Oooooo. AOV and Custer. Soooooooooo close. Both epic tracks but then again so is this one though there is a lot of melodic Corey on AOV. Just saying like. And while I'm here, have you posted the Duality video reaction coz I ain't seen it. Hope all is good in Lauren world.x
I definitely want to do more from this album because it's sounding a lot like WANYK, which is probably my favorite of theirs. You haven't missed Duality. SHOULD be this Friday or Saturday. :D
@@MusicCatsandCoffee Fair enough petal. I jumped in to early re the question and my answer is Custer and AOV equally. And I had my worries over Jay but as soon as I heard this album all doubts were dispelled. Bloody amazing drummer. AOV is a tour de force of drumming with some very nice melodic Corey thrown in between the heavy. Taken up far too much of your time so I'll bugger off now. Ta ta for now.
I would love to see you're thoughts on Gently whenever you revisit IOWA. that's ones of the songs on that album that I feel is reeeeeaaallly underrated. It has such a organic build up from beginning to end and it's also one of the few songs brought over from MFKR which was the EP slipknot put out before Corey was even part of the band, Idk if you knew that but he isn't actually the original lead singer. He was with Stone Sour first before Slipknot.
Absolute favorite off of .5: The Gray Chapter is easily "If Rain Is What You Want"... even if for the sheer reason of the band going outside their comfort zones and going borderline doom metal, but still keeping their core sound - but overall it really is such a great song. 2nd favorite is definitely "Sarcastrophe" - it's basically the "Gematria (The Killing Name)" of The Gray Chapter, an absolute metal banger, with technical riffs, crushing sound, etc. Other honorable mentions will go to Killpop, Skeptic, Goodbye & Lech. Ok, maybe Nomadic as well.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee I think it was leaked who they were and it then ended up being officially revealed. I believe vman was Paul's tech and played bass backstage after Paul's death and before they bought him on stage. Don't quote me on that tho
I love this song, but my favorite on the album would have to be "Custer". It channels Self-titled/Iowa Slipknot, but with modern angry Corey. If the intro track "XIX" and "Sarcastrophe" were a single track, that would probably be my favorite on the album. Separately, they're both really good, especially Sarcastrophe, but together they're awesome. I don't necessarily know if they should go together, based on lyrics or meaning, but it works for me.
The entire album was made after Pauls death. It's also dedicated to him. Best song of album for me is either Custer or Lech and this track. Gotta check out Custer live 2014. 2 other bands you need to listen to are Slaughter to Prevail and Ice Nine Kills. Great bands.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee oh trust me they will frighten you. They are a Russian death core band. A lot of the their songs are half Russian and half English but very heavy. If had to compare them to anyone, I'd say they were Slipknots Russian cousins. The drummer is faster than J awesome sauce and the singer Alex Terrible, his voice is straight demonic
I started listening this album very judgemental, but Jay just broke me once I first listened to Gray Chapter, he absolutely killed it and I guess only those who just deslike everything obviously don't like him. And I don't know if you realized that but you used WANYK as a reference several times on this video. 😂
Jay dad is A Drumming Legend so we were all surprised that A legends son was joining the band & his dad loves the band he's been at live shows. I'm gonna be a bit controversial here but i think jay is a better drummer than joey IMO i mean come on Jay Weinberg won the title of the best metal drummer of all time in 2019 on music radar
We have totally different ideas jajaj, its fine but weird at the same time, I definetely prefer iowa 2001 corey, his guturals were si brutal back in the day, after that the Young angry corey os my seco d favourite and then the WANYK voice would be mi third, my fourth is in AHIG mi fifth is .5 and my oeast favourite is the subliminal verses
Happy Maggot Monday! :D I couldn't think of a song with lots of Sid, but Not Long for This World would be one, right? And The Nameless? Anyway, hope you enjoy this one!
Well if you want a songs with lots of sid(and pinhead also in some of them) so check surfacing, birth of the cruel, spiders, only one, no life, scream
Purity had a lot of Sid, Eyeless had a lot Sid, so did Birth of the Cruel. When I think of more I'll let you know.
I stayed till the very end👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😱
@Yeltnerb 1 no one has outed tortilla man yet!
@Yeltnerb 1 yeah but his first appearance nobody knew who he was for the longest time
The lyrics are, like you said, on another plane. I remember that when it first come out there was a lot of speculation if it was about Joey, but Corey said it wasn't.
My favorite from this album is sarcastrophe, looking forward for your reaction.
Sarcastrophe is my favorite slipknot, song. It is beautiful!! 🖤
My favorite song is a deep cut Called if rain is what you want, it’s two song in one. It’s about how Slipknot grieved in their own way.
Ah that one would be good for her with all of coreys vacal styles.
I’m obsessed with if Rain is what you want in my current mental state. Definitely check it out
This is one of my favorites from the Gray chapter. The next one you should check out after this should be Sacastrophe
Nooooo... PLEASE do "If Rain Is What You Want"
Corey's very good in his timing screaming his lyrics in the mic. Btw AOV is my favourite on this album. Cheers again.
Favourite - Sarcastrophe. Sow heavy and awesome
My favorite from this album has to be Skeptic! The whole song is dedicated to Paul! To me it is the best tribute song on this album.
In the Grey Chapter my favorite songs of course Negative one, Devil and I, and the Override.
You’re right it’s hard to fill the shoes of somebody like Joey, and due to the controversy surrounding his departure people didn’t necessarily hate Jay at first but I do think a lot of us resented him. That said he has earned his place and proved himself more than worthy.

love these videos, keep them coming
Thanks for watching! :)
My favorite from this album is Custer. Very angry Cory.
Custer is a banger
My favorite off this album too!!
My fav from this album is the burden(its not in the actual album cuz its a bonus track)
I havent really heard a lot of songs from this album yet, but for now, The Negative One is my favourite from this album :D
Sarcastrophe is a song that has the guys say a word in the background and Corey sings a lyric like Nero Forte.
Vacuum was from A liar's funeral l
This is my top favorite from this album.
My favorite song from .5 is The One That Kills The Least, but I also really like the two bonus songs (The Bruden & Override), and Goodbye, even though they don't sound very Slipknot-like.
And I also enjoy The Negative One very much, .5 in general, so it's very difficult to decide.
I think this was made entirely after Paul's death.
I remember when this track came out and people were thinking they wrote it about Joey. Corey had to come out and squash that rumor
My favorite song on the gray chapter is definitely custer
I was supportive of Jay knowing his history from Against Me and especially when he filled in for his dad for Bruce Springsteen, aftering hearing this song a year before .5 was announced sold me on his intensity and speed that really added some much needed punch for their 5th album
Joey left giant shoes to fill but damn jay has big feet.
LOVE THIS. :D
@@MusicCatsandCoffee glad you like it :D
I know it finished 2nd but I would love to see your reaction of AOV. Such an underrated song
I would suggest you react to Custer. Just sayin. Has some of those cool siren type sounds probably from Sid. Corey also sounds incredible. Thx for another great video!!!!
The best song on this album in my opinion is Custer but my favourite is Sarcastrophe. Hope you get around to both of them. Loving the content.
Personally I love AOV so I would love to see you're reaction to it.
Good morning Lauren!
Good morning to you too! :D
Devil in I is definitely my favorite on the album
18:00 You have an extra special place in my Maggot Heart
You should have that put on a merch. shirt
lol :D
Such a bad ass song I love sid turntables solos.
I love the music video for this song, it’s so creepy and weird
We know you dig songs about unrequited love, that's what Iowa is really about.
......sort of.
Unrequited love is indeed my jam. :)
Next if rain is what you want
😍

a person favourite on the album is either AOV or custer
One step closer to 2k subscribers!!!
Custer is my favorite song on this album! I love the beginning
Mega Maggot OG here ;)
Aov & Custer r like tied for first place for favorite song on this album
My favorite song off the gray chapter is Sarcastrophe, you should definitely try it out.

I've definitely watched some Corey interviews, and yes, he's just too awesome to deal with sometimes. lol :D
Pinhead in a tie IS pretty legit. Wonder if it was....
pinstriped. 😎
I hate this comment. Because I didn't think of it first. Man, that's a good one.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee If there's anything that I really excel at in my life, it's the #dadpuns. 😆
Sarcastrophe, AOV, Custer, Lech, Nomadic, Skeptic... It's hard to choose only one. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
This one is my favorite song of 5. The gray chapter:)

I can't be the only one that clicked on this video too quickly when they saw the song title and thought it was Mudvayne...
I pretty much love this album in its entirety, but I'd say the best song is the Devil In I, but my favorite is Killpop
The song Skeptic of this album is a tribute to Paul !
Oh.. man.. favorite song.. hmmmm I'm gonna say Y E S.
:D

@@MusicCatsandCoffee it absolutely blew my mind when I found out. 😂
AOV is definitely my favorite from .5. probably heard it a million times. Lol

Oh yeah, forgot about Custer - although at first I disliked it for having such a stupid, edgy chorus.
i believe the one that kills the least is my favorite
My favorites from Gray Chapter are XIX & Sarcastrophe.
I'm not entirely sure that Jay had anything to do with this album. He's not credited in the album booklet and the drums actually sound programmed.
Don't forget they kept Jay and Vmans identities secret for a long time. Same as what they're doing with tortilla man

This song is about parting with their drummer Joey..bad blood
