Hey there! Just an update. Since making a reaction to the live version of this (which you can watch here: ua-cam.com/video/55wtEGpoOiI/v-deo.html ), I can say, I get it now. :) I've come a long way since this video, and I actually like this song now. It's not top 10 material to me, but I see when so many of you love it. If you think some kind of follow-up reaction would be worth it, let me know. Have a good one. :)
You know not growth, not on drugs most of them. Yearly knot was very intense. So is there newer work, I don't really know what im trying to say I guess its just they just can't compare there self to then and now justcsaying
The entire Iowa album is fueled by rage, hate, drugs and alcohol. You can feel Corey's emotions in the songs. As somebody who was full of rage in my late teens/early twenties this album along with their self titled helped me get through life knowing other people felt this way and it became an outlet to channel my anger instead of a random person or object. Their first two albums will always hold a place in my heart.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee Iowa is when I discovered Slipknot for myself and will always be my favorite, but I also love songs like Unsainted, Killpop, Snuff, etc. They have more misses (for me) on recent albums than they did on their first two, but there are still some absolute hits. Mostly it comes down to Corey's complete mastery of the clean/scream dynamic.
Disasterpiece is one of their heaviest songs, it`s about the time Corey suffered from Bullying and his hate towards it. The IOWA album itself is slipknot`s heaviest, for a person that doesn`t like their ``heavy side`` too much i would recommend to stay away from it for now hahaha. If you want a very calm nice song from them, try Circle.
This song was never fully about bullying. It is about a mental health crisis going on in the world where if someone sees or a child is told that they don’t have a soul and that every bond they thought they had with someone or special moment was just neurons firing off in their brain. That search for answers drives them insane and problems develop. It’s not about a belief in god but the spread of the truth that nothing matters and if something does happen it’s only a natural reaction that your body does to survive. You are just a clump of cells and nothing else. That’s the meaning of disasterpiece, the human body is the disasterpiece.
Definitely understand this take and your thoughts are valid on it. Early Slipknot as I mentioned were....inbridled rage and anger at the world and their situation. Most members having quite difficult lives, struggling with addictions, and abuse in different forms. Most slipknot fans will probably tell you they prefer this sound, (I admit I am among them) because ultimately, early Slipknot consisted of....."vent" songs, and it spoke to many going through tough times themselves, whilst the current Slipknot is definitely more matured...as they have learned how to properly manage how they feel, conveying friendly....ish accessibility to people newer to metal or songs dealing with dark issues. (Edit: I also understand being overwhelmed by the subject matter and the language choices, because it is ALOT if you're not quite used to it)
Thanks for the info. I'm getting quite a Slipknot education in the comment section. I appreciate it! Music means a lot to people, and I had a feeling this song in particular would go in that category, so while it's not my taste, I wanted to remain unbiased and see the value in it. Hopefully I did that. Vent songs (perfect label for this) are important, and I wanted to respect that. Thanks for watching. :)
I agree with "John Hesters" comments. This was an Album influenced by some negative things at its time of production and it shows. It also distance them from all the nu-metal and metal from that time. Definitely their heaviest album to date, in my opinion. There was also a DVD that came out after this album called "Disasterpieces" that is worth a watch. Its one of the most fun live concert videos i have seen. I respect that you tapped before the second listen, its not for everyone. Love your honesty in your reviews. Keep them coming!
Iowa is their most brutal album, for many reasons. First of all, Corey used to SH (I'm not even joking) and used those brutal screams for making the Album, most of those screams are also very 'real' with no technique, meaning they are very harmful to his vocal chords, he'd totally ruin his voice after every performance. I guess these songs are reflective of what the band went through and they wanted some way to express that, and therefore the Iowa album debuted in 2001 with its raw, and brutal aggression. The more you know. That aside, I have some slightly less off-putting suggestions for the next Slipknot reactions you may like: - Gematria (The Killing Name) (AHIG) -- Mick Thomson's Rhythm is brutal in this one. His most technical and impressive work. - The Nameless (Vol. 3 The Subliminal Verses) -- The subject matter is weird (just a heads up) but the way it's composed is interesting. Like the vids btw
Disasterpiece is one of my favorites off Iowa. I recall when it first came out I ended up listening to the whole album for free at my local record store. It instantly resonated with me. @@MusicCatsandCoffee Teacher Teacher official video, Home Back official video about the strife in their Ukrainian homeland, Judgement and Punishment One take vocal performance, Perennial live at Wacken 2009, Bad Water and I Speak Astrology are some of my favorites. Enjoy!
This is possibly my favourite Slipknot track (although there are so many!) it has saved my mental health on more than one occasion, which may sound strange, but it's so cathartic in terms of chanelling all that anger and resentment etc. That drum break is one of my favourite musical moments ever (Joey was a genius), note how the guitars take on the drum rhythm - so cool! Then it goes into that slow headbanging section. Amazing. I get that it's a lot to take in when you first hear it - especially the first line being quite shocking, and I apreciate your honesty, you are very genuine in your reactions. I've watched your reaction to the live version too and seen that you have warmed to this track a bit. Slipknot is definitely an experience, not just something you listen to in the background, and their videos and live performances are like performance art.
What you said about Corey`s voice is kind of true, back then he didn`t use any vocal technique for his screams and that made him almost ``lose his voice``, by the 3 album this alongside drinking and smoking made his voice change completely. He realized the importance of this a few years back.
I love chaos. I just love it. It's why I love the Iowa album. It's just great for me. It calms me. Numbs the sadness. And takes the dangerous edge off the happiness.
Honestly, I would suggest avoiding their first 2 albums because there are more songs similar to one and if not more chaotic. Not the best introduction for those who are starting to listen to Metal, but if you were to do more songs off their first 2 albums, pay close attention to how Corey sets the tone of his voice in each song. There are moments where he goes completely ballistic. It is clear that the Iowa album is not the right sound for you but we would love to see you react to the entire album to have a grasp of how they felt back in 2001.
Why hate pausing the video? :))) Much more interesting to watch a reaction video in which the person, you know, actually gives out their detailed reaction. Especially as opposed to someone just sitting there, taking the song in, not saying much or anything about it. Love your content so far!
love these videos. the reactions don't seem preformative like a lot of other channels i think that's super cool. you should check out vermilion part 1 and 2, preferably back to back. that makes it better, for me anyway.
Thanks! Honest and genuine, that's me! As for Vermilion, LOVE pt 2 but haven't really heard the first part, aside from probably the intro/first verse. So yeah, I'd like to do these. :)
I’d say in these days jay as surpassed Joey, his tempo is great,he hits his kit really hard wich sounds stunning and he is really technical. On sarcastrophe for exemple, his drumming sounds amazing in addition to being catchy. Rip to Joey he was really unique.
Corey's voice is amazing, and the way he can capture his emotions through his lyrics makes him an instant classic. imo. that said i fkn love Joey Jordison on drums. brutally quick with all the usual metal drum chops, but inventive and not afraid to pull from other styles. i think Slipknot lost some of that drive to push boundaries when Joey 'left'. but Corey is still awesome, and the boys can still crank out some heavy tunes;)
This song is about confronting/killing a bully, that why the first line says that, and the rest of the song saying "once again, its me and no-one else, I cant Remember if there was a someone else" he's referring to him and only him being bullied by this person

listening to you talk about "snuff" your gonna have chills from Cory alone acoustic snuff and the drummer is Joey Jordison from 96 to 2013 Jay Weinberg from 2014 tour till present
Their official video for this song captures their energy perfectly. It's live in London and you really should check it out...just to get the live Slipknot experience.
Also, hopefully you'll listen to the entirety of the IOWA album (which marks it's 20th anniversary this year!) - it's one of the darkest, most nihilistic, misanthropic, hate-filled to a tangible level and heavy albums not only of the decade, but in the entire metal genre. A real landmark that made elitist metalheads give respect to Slipknot's "nu-metal".
Mind you, everyone in the media/labels/whatever expected them to put out something even more commercially successful/catchy in terms of the 2nd album, after the unexpected success of their self-titled debut. IOWA was a big "fuck you!" to those expectations. They really went into very dark places, mentally (the band were at each other's throats while recording this album, since pretty much right after touring extensively to promote their first album, they already had to get back in the studio and produce this) to create this monstrosity of an album.
Hmm, that's interesting. Love the story behind it! Don't get me wrong, I respect what they've done here. But I can't realistically see me listening to this entire album. I don't think I could handle it. :)
Enjoyed your journey homie. Orphan is a pretty cool song. I didn’t really like Nero Forte when it came out but it has grown on me a decent bit. Good on you for pushing your way through this one, though. Should have mentioned the live video instead of the lyrics lol. It’s really not a song for most people but it’s interesting to hear different kinds of music. What you hopping into after the slipknot journey?
I did what I could with this one. :) I have to be honest while still being respectful to those who love this song. As for what's next, I'm going through some of the song suggestions I'm seeing, but I'm definitely doing more Slipknot too.
the reason why coreys voice is kinda weird in this album is because corey was an extreme alcoholic at the time. in a q&a he said that he would drink 3 bottles of jack daniels a day wich dropped his voice and made it super raspy. edit: forgot to mention, the screaming technique, or lack thereof he used in the first two albums was INCREDIBLY destructive to his voice and made his talking voice and singing voice super weak. the upside though is it feels a lot more genuine. around Vol.3 he learned from a vocal teacher to do it the healthy way.
You're definitely right, and I wonder if I'd heard those first two albums first, if I'd had a different opinion now. I'd say absolutely. It's a lot easier to "get into" this band if you start with their lighter side, or what I'd call, not as scary. :D My 1st Slipknot song was Snuff, so that tells you all you need to know. It's a journey for sure.
Hey, I think you would generally like the band Gojira, a lot of people say they sound like Slipknot. I would start you off with the song Gojira: L’enfant Sauvage I think you would love that song
This song is really good and I feel like it is a more raw version of slipknot good reaction keep up the awesome work also could you please react to Abbie falls mayday the lyrics are in the description
If you want something from this era with more polish, I'd go with My Plague. Disasterpiece has one of the most shocking opening lines of any song ever, but the chorus is weaker than a lot of Slipknot songs. You can hear the beginnings of the Unsainted formula in My Plague.
I'm not fully through the video but I already know exactly what your talking about. Like a lot of other comments have said Corey Taylor was fueled by rage in his vocals back then and it shows. Personally I love the rage stuff from slipknot but I'm not a huge fan of disaster piece. Honestly my favourite song instrument wise is "lech" the vocals are a tad .. much, but not as graphic as disaster piece. Lyric wise my favourite has to be unsainted. That song connects to me on a spiritual level. But yeah if you haven't already you might want to check out lech, it's very fast paced but it's good. I tend to associate the lyrics with war in general featuring a line such as "no one is bullet proof" Wich I associate with feudal Japan when they discovered guns🤣🤣 it's pretty cool and I'd love if you react to it!
@LaurenSeeWrites This song is definitely not for everyone haha. You guessed it though, The whole band was pretty angsty and pissed off at this time. The lyrics and music 100% reflect that. For context, The band were in a bad mental state(especially Corey) at this point in time. They nearly broke up a few times. It was just pure drug and alcohol fueled hate for everyone and everything. If you want a glimpse into Coreys mental state in this era you can read up how he made the song Iowa, Its disturbing as hell but really gives some insight into how messed up he was. IMO their Vol 3 album is when they really hit their stride musically. The instrumentals on that album alone are top tier.
I like that ur honest about this not being your style of music. I LOVE the entire IOWA album. I think you may enjoy songs off their Subliminal Verses record more.
I think you're right. :) But yeah, I have to be honest. I can't sit there and pretend I like something just to make the comment section happy. Way too many reactors do that, I think.
By the way... judging by your opinion on their music so far, what side/aspect of their art you enjoy the most... I highly recommend "If Rain Is What You Want", from their .5: The Gray Chapter album. It's one of their most un-characteristic songs they ever put out, more or less crossing the bridge into doom metal territory in some regards... very experimental for them, to say the least. Which is why I give them huge props for this song (besides the fact that it's a VERY good one), for having the balls to do something quite "anti-Slipknot" in a sense... but while still retaining their DNA in it.
Everytime I hear you say its so manic I just gotta say you need to check out Periphery- stranger things or the bad thing. Their vocalist is insanely talented. If you can find the groove theyre amazing.
Yeah this song can be a serious turn off for new fans if they aren't prepared. But it does come from a very emotional place and I do appreciate the effort, however drastic and even unethical to a point, that it took to male this song.

Slipknot is definitely an experience, not just something you listen to in the background, and their videos and live performances are like performance art.
if you want a really wierd Slipknot song you should check out Spiders from the new album, it's one of my fav after Nero Forte!
ok :) Weird is good.
Yes! Agreed! And prelude 3.0.
What you said about Corey`s voice is kind of true, back then he didn`t use any vocal technique for his screams and that made him almost ``lose his voice``, by the 3 album this alongside drinking and smoking made his voice change completely. He realized the importance of this a few years back.
And we're all thankful. :)
First line is disturbing but it sums up what it's like to be bullied to an extreme desperation
Still waiting for purity. Also very disturbing but quite beautyful. Also pulse of the maggots is imo a really uplifting song.
I don't remember seeing this title, but rest assured, it's on the list now. And the second one too.
I love chaos. I just love it. It's why I love the Iowa album. It's just great for me. It calms me. Numbs the sadness. And takes the dangerous edge off the happiness.
Iowa is their best album hands down.
:)
The thought of doing this entire album is overwhelming. Maybe someday. But today is not that day. :)
Why hate pausing the video? :)))
Much more interesting to watch a reaction video in which the person, you know, actually gives out their detailed reaction. Especially as opposed to someone just sitting there, taking the song in, not saying much or anything about it.
Love your content so far!
And ah yes, Slipknot's most "romantic" intro. Love it!
THANK YOU! Yeah, most people skip all the parts that aren't the actual song. I'm glad at least someone listens to me. :)
Awesome reaction it is definetly one of their darker songs but musically its amazing , maybe "not long for this world"by them in the future? 🙊
Thanks! I'm adding your song to my list. :)
@@MusicCatsandCoffee you're awesome sauce!!!
I've listened to Cannibal Corpse and those songs have brutal lyrics, but that first line of this song...
Good LORD, Corey! 😂
love these videos. the reactions don't seem preformative like a lot of other channels i think that's super cool. you should check out vermilion part 1 and 2, preferably back to back. that makes it better, for me anyway.
Thanks! Honest and genuine, that's me! As for Vermilion, LOVE pt 2 but haven't really heard the first part, aside from probably the intro/first verse. So yeah, I'd like to do these. :)
You have to watch the live version in london 2001...Incredible performance
That's pretty far down the list. Never say never though!
Weinberg is awesome no doubt but Jordison was just something else, another level imo but i don't know much so it's just my gut feeling
They both sound good to me! But at this stage, I can't really choose one over the other. I think I've heard more of the second guy so far.
I’d say in these days jay as surpassed Joey, his tempo is great,he hits his kit really hard wich sounds stunning and he is really technical. On sarcastrophe for exemple, his drumming sounds amazing in addition to being catchy. Rip to Joey he was really unique.
One of my favorite songs off of Iowa(My favorite Slipknot album) Song about wanting your bully to die
Slipknot's best song
Corey's voice is amazing, and the way he can capture his emotions through his lyrics makes him an instant classic. imo.
that said i fkn love Joey Jordison on drums. brutally quick with all the usual metal drum chops, but inventive and not afraid to pull from other styles. i think Slipknot lost some of that drive to push boundaries when Joey 'left'.
but Corey is still awesome, and the boys can still crank out some heavy tunes;)
Corey Freaking Taylor. That is all. :D
This also is Corey's favorite song to play live give it a few more listens and you will come to love this song like every other maggot
Verses, sorta. Chorus, not so much. Ending, probably never. :)
This song is about confronting/killing a bully, that why the first line says that, and the rest of the song saying "once again, its me and no-one else, I cant Remember if there was a someone else" he's referring to him and only him being bullied by this person
This song was a message to the people who bullied him as a kid.
Message received. :) But just imagine the kid you picked on ending up in a band like this.
listening to you talk about "snuff" your gonna have chills from Cory alone acoustic snuff and the drummer is Joey Jordison from 96 to 2013 Jay Weinberg from 2014 tour till present
Thanks for the timeline. As for Snuff, see previous comment. :)
some songs from this album are a little more tame are, The Shape and Left Behind. this album is a masterpiece and i hope you look into it more lol.
The thought of it scares me, but never say never. :)
Their official video for this song captures their energy perfectly. It's live in London and you really should check it out...just to get the live Slipknot experience.
If/when I get into videos, maybe. :)
@@MusicCatsandCoffee Good stuff. I didn't particular like this song, but then I saw the official live video for it and it blew my socks off 😂
I would really like to hear your opinion on "Purity". The story behind it is super interesting and creepy.
ok :)
You are truly evil lmao 😭
@@MusicCatsandCoffee you did your best 🤣
What do you normally like listening to?
Breaking. Benjamin. That's my band.
the reason why coreys voice is kinda weird in this album is because corey was an extreme alcoholic at the time. in a q&a he said that he would drink 3 bottles of jack daniels a day wich dropped his voice and made it super raspy.
edit: forgot to mention, the screaming technique, or lack thereof he used in the first two albums was INCREDIBLY destructive to his voice and made his talking voice and singing voice super weak. the upside though is it feels a lot more genuine. around Vol.3 he learned from a vocal teacher to do it the healthy way.
That's a lot of Jack D.
Nah, disagreement. Iowa is their magnum opus. The holy grail. It's just heavier than you are used to because that's what slipknot used to be.
It's a journey for sure.
the song's about a bully that Corey had when he was younger and the song is about how he wants the bully to die
Everyone almost always compares corey vocals here on the lowa era to every other album and concerts wishing he sounded like he does here
Really?! Hmm.
Indeed. I can't stand the newer stuff from slipknot for some reason. Lol. It's like listening to stone sour with a tiny bit more heaviness.
@@necrofear9896 I'm assuming that you don't like it because there's a little bit of singing? Doesn't even sould like stone sour lol
Hey, I think you would generally like the band Gojira, a lot of people say they sound like Slipknot. I would start you off with the song
Gojira: L’enfant Sauvage
I think you would love that song
I'll give it a try. Thanks! :)
Controlled chaos isn't fun. Rip #1 and #2. Miss you joey and paul.
This song is really good and I feel like it is a more raw version of slipknot good reaction keep up the awesome work also could you please react to Abbie falls mayday the lyrics are in the description
Raw! That is the perfect word for this song. Thanks for watching! I'm adding your song to my list. :)
@@MusicCatsandCoffee your welcome and thank you hope you like it when you listen to it
If you want something from this era with more polish, I'd go with My Plague. Disasterpiece has one of the most shocking opening lines of any song ever, but the chorus is weaker than a lot of Slipknot songs. You can hear the beginnings of the Unsainted formula in My Plague.
Aaaaa you paused during the full release cathartic final breakdown of Disasterpiece! 😔 Haha it's okay, you are forgiven.
I love this song
How do you feel about their more recent stuff then? Because to me, they sound like 2 different bands. Just curious.
Sounds interesting. It's now on the list! :)
Love this song
slipknot first 2 album are the best
:)
"Did he say what I think he said" yes...yes he did
@LaurenSeeWrites This song is definitely not for everyone haha.
Yep, this is what pain sounds like.
custer, sic, aov, wait and bleed, spit it out album and live 2009 at download festival
They're all official on the list now. Thanks! :)
Nobody tell her about Infant Annihilator 🤣🤣
You know I read these comments, right? ;)
@@MusicCatsandCoffee I'd advise against it...
But I'm also evil and want to see your reaction 😈🤣
I like that ur honest about this not being your style of music. I LOVE the entire IOWA album. I think you may enjoy songs off their Subliminal Verses record more.
I think you're right. :) But yeah, I have to be honest. I can't sit there and pretend I like something just to make the comment section happy. Way too many reactors do that, I think.
I think The Negative One need to be the next one ! It's an amazing song
Going on the list, thanks! :)
You had me at doom metal. Going on the list. :)
I dont really like the grey chapter that mutch but this song is awesome
Everytime I hear you say its so manic I just gotta say you need to check out Periphery- stranger things or the bad thing. Their vocalist is insanely talented. If you can find the groove theyre amazing.
Sounds interesting. I'll give it a go. :)
Ooo, iowa. Definitely hardcore stuff. Be careful 😂
Yeah, NOW you tell me. :) I was warned but not nearly enough.
at least you gave it a try
That I did.
You should absolutely listen to snuff acoustic version
I've heard this about 372 times. :)
There is 3 percussionist's. Joey, Shawn, Chris.
I’ve never heard someone say Corey’s voice is better now for a reason, because it’s not
try "Slipknot People Equals Shit Live In London 2002" Its basically them in their live prime.
I will get to this. :)
I miss Corey’s old voice. But I love him none the less
The whole thing I think is sic
I think you would really like Nomadic.
Well, I'd like to find out. Going on the list, thanks. :)
Cory Live acoustic snuff,nuff said
Christopher, Christopher, Christopher, listen. Snuff is perfection and I have officially broken its repeat button in whatever form exists. :)
You’ve ventured far into the slipknot worm hole. Lol
You said it.
Idk, first Stone Sour album and Iowa are my favorite things from Corey Taylor.
hi. How can I watch your first reactions to slipknot on this channel? they’re blocked :D
Which videos? All the Slipknot ones are blocked in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, & Syria. Sorry!
@@MusicCatsandCoffee not all of them are blocked Also Im not in any of these countries !
Hmm, I don't know then!
I’d f it too if I went through hard work of making the hole imma effen it
Yeah im watching your reaction to it again two months later What about it LOL
Heh, jeden z lepszych kawałków. Iowa to najlepsza płyta .
Yeah this song can be a serious turn off for new fans if they aren't prepared. But it does come from a very emotional place and I do appreciate the effort, however drastic and even unethical to a point, that it took to male this song.
For me Iowa is the best album
You gotta do Slipknot - Spit it out live at download 2009!
This song is about a bully he had
I've learned this from the very informative comment section. Thanks! :)
LOL dude everyone loves the Iowa album the most
they may have grown as musicians but everyone always goes back to the Iowa album
but u know Each to their own
So do you like their current stuff more? Because for me, there's no question. :)
@@MusicCatsandCoffee Yes & no there a few songs in my top ten slipknot songs like Orphan, Not long for this world, Critical darling the rest is basically songs from The grey chapter like skeptic, AOV, The devil in i & Lech i love all their songs but some r Top tier for me
If you want a good song to listen to listen to Vermilion pt 1 and 2
Vermillion Pt 2 I've heard 732 times, but Pt 1 I need to check out. Thanks. :)
Love your videos, react to Slipknot- Solway Firth.
Thanks for watching! If I see Solway Firth one more time... haha! But yeah, that's my next one. Next week at least.
Great reaction! Waiting for It Never Ends by Bring Me The Horizon 👀
Hey, man. I'm only one person here. :) It's on the list so no worries.
Do sic next please.
Not next, but ok! :)
1>everyone
I don't think your made for slipknot love!! Iowa is their best work! U just don't get it!!
Eh, I do get it. People who watch reaction videos aren't used to someone being honest enough to say when they don't like something. This song is not for me, but I respect that it means a lot to people. THAT I get, 100%. :)
@@MusicCatsandCoffee your opinion I guess
you have to do people = shtt !!
It's on my list, but not anytime soon. Let's just say, I'm not too anxious to return to this era. :)
Your mind is so closed.
You are beautiful.
Why thank you.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee did you reacted to Vermillion by Slipknot yet
I'm going to do this at some point. Not yet though. :)
