How to add a video background to Microsoft Teams

Absolutely! If you are familiar with OBS then and your PC has the processing power, then I would prefer OBS. But not all users understand OBS as it needs a bit more config.

When I went to remove the background my camera froze and the background did not get removed.

Thats typically a sign that your PC may be struggling to process this.
