I have the honor of being the plumber on the generals new house in Telluride. First impressions were great because as he told me, "if my dogs like you I like you", and both of his dogs loved me. and for the next years, I had a unique relation with this man. Irony was that we both were stationed at Chu Lai Vietman in late 60's, where he guarded our perimeter. He said to me, "we were safer in Chu Lai, than in the states", plus we could go to the beach right on the airbase. Although I was just his plumber when I was with him I knew that I had met a truly amazing man. He marched with us during the Veterans parade but then the next year he said, "I'm not marching with you guys this year because I'll step back, this is about you, not me. This video should be replayed at high schools, the general has a great voice and storytelling quality, and no politic, he was just an old bear hunter and dog lover. The general had given me a signed picture of himself to give to my son who just joined the army rangers. For 3 years it sat on his desk as a recruiter and the people asked, "wow, is that your dad? with just a grin back. Jo Rogan should revisit what happened some 30 years ago, but so happening today.
He speaks from a Military Officer Leadership perspective - if you have not been a military officer educated, trained, experienced, and promoted - it does not translate to corporate
Unfortunately, I disagree if by character he refers to some quality of righteous morality, with his following statement: "The single most important ingredient in leadership is character," Schwartzkopf. Successful, compelling leaders, project an intuitive, ideal of being, at the emotional level. I call it being the alpha. At its essence, it is an averbal language that is instinctively understood by the limbic systems of those who follow, imho. However, good utilitarian outcomes are more likely to come from leaders with character.
One of the greatest leaders giving a speech to the deaf or insane
