  • This is something a bit different to my other videos so might not be of interest to some people. This is a slideshow video showing the construction of the Beck View housing estate which was built on the site and playing field of St. Anthony's Secondary School on Cargo Fleet Lane. At the time where I lived I had a bird's eye view of the construction process and took photos at regular intervals. This was before I started making videos and these photos were just for personal interest and when the construction was finished I put them on a photo DVD and there they stayed until I came across the DVD again and thought I could make a video that a few people might find interesting.

I come from Coulby, lived in the Boro my whole life and I just want to say I have binged your channel this enitre sunday morning. It's been quite an emotional experience actually! The Then & Now series you currate has given me an amazing sense of empathy with my Grandfather and Uncle and what they grew up around. I've long since fled the Boro to Bristol, where I study at uni. I've never understood their town pride, beeing born in 2001. To me Boro is this dried up husk of neoliberal, new-labour Blairite waste... But from your channel, I have seen a side to Boro that barely remains of a place that really looked and felt like it had a sould and was a place to be proud of. Wanna say ta lad, for showing me my ignorance and there's really nowt daft about being proud of the Boro x

Thank you very much for the kind words, they do mean a lot to me. One of the reasons I decided to make these videos is so that people like yourself could see what Middlesbrough was like when the older generations who remember are gone. Middlesbrough was once a proud town build on the iron and steel that was exported all over the world. Gladstone called us the "Infant Hercules" but the decline started in the 1980's with the decline of the heavy industries on which this town was built. I'm happy that you can now understand why some older folk still have pride in Boro's heritage 👍

@@BigMack1959 Completely I do, and I'm sorry it took me this long to find out the source of their pride. I've never been ashamed of Boro, at all, it's my home and I love it for all it is. But seeing what it was has been amazing!

Thanks Roy, this is a video I wasn't intending to make but when I found the photo disc after seeing your excellent videos I thought I'd have a go and crop the photos to make them fit the video.
