So lovely to watch the podcast today. Those vintage patterns from the 50s are great to look at and remind me of the adults around me when i was a child. 🇬🇧

I am really enjoying the ideas for needle storage. Currently, I keep my needles in their original package. When I use needles that have an individual package, I just put the package in my project bag. When the project is completed, the needles slip back in their packaging and then return to a large clear zipper bag. It’s not ideal, but it works. I think I really need to go through my needles and pare them down. My interchangeable ChiaoGoo needles always return to their original pouch. Guess I should be grateful for having such a problem 😉!

Thank you for the podcast! We were at our daughter's this weekend. Got there in time to go out for lunch. We got back to her house and it started snowing! Big , wet flakes. And she lost power. Her husband is in Mexico on a mission trip. They have been in the house 2 months. So glad we were there for her. Knitting? Didn't happen! The snow about melted over night. We got home Sunday afternoon to a ton load of snow. Living in michigan is always a different day. I'm back to knitting and enjoying the warm house

Love the Jovis Colorway. I’ve been on the hunt for something special for my battenburg and have decided Frankfurt fingering in the new Colorway is the pick. So happy when I heard that it will be a permanent color in your shop! Thanks. Still look forward to your podcasts. Thanks for making the time every week to share with us.

We had about 2” of snow last weekend, the most we’ve had so far this winter, but it didn’t last because we had torrents of rain shortly after, and the next few days, along with flood warnings. If all that rain had been snow I don’t know how much we would have had. I like to get 1 big snow, preferably on a day that would have been busy, and everything gets cancelled, so you get an unexpected day off, as long as it doesn’t happen when everyone is out and I have to worry about them getting home safely. Then I’m satisfied and don’t want any more. We live on a corner and have lots of sidewalk to remove it from - that’s not fun. It is rather magical, though, when snow comes overnight and you wake up to it in the morning. I have fond memories of listening to the radio on a snowy morning to hear our school’s cancellation number on the list. Once it happened on my January birthday.

We don't want snow as its summer here but after a week of temps in the late 20's early 30's Celsius today is quite cool 16 at present. If hadn't been for the fact its rained most of the day it would have been a good gardening day instead I'm getting a little knitting time in before its time to finish cooking dinner.

Hello from OK-LA-HO-MA (are you singing the song?) where it is finally snowing. After church today I came home to enjoy the beautiful scenery outside and warm cozy inside while I knit your Vesper pattern. I hope to get it done while it’s still cold outside. Once again enjoyed your cheerful podcast!

I totally agree about undyed yarn being ugly because of the yellow cast! Your new Jovis colorway is gorgeous…a creamy white that reminds me of whipped cream! RE husbands knitting…a few years ago mine was trying to think of white elephant-type gifts for his office Christmas party, and he asked me to show him how to knit a hat! So we went to Joann’s and picked up some bulky acrylic yarn in red and white. I did the cast on with large needles, did a few rows of ribbing to get him started and showed him how to do the knit stitch. It was the cutest thing watching him be so intent and focused on knitting the 2 hats…I even showed him how to do the decreases. Best of all, the person who got the hats was absolutely thrilled! He hasn’t knit anything since, but that’s okay…we don’t need both of us with a yarn habit! 😂

I was born and raised in South Dakota and lived in North Dakota for 30 years. I now live in Tennessee and it never, ever needs to snow for me. We do have snow in the forecast for later today and tomorrow. I plan to ignore it. Stitch markers! Why is it you lose the expensive ones and the cheap ones never get lost?

I always have a giggle when you all talk about snow. I was sitting in an air conditioned cafe, knitting and watching your podcast, with a sheen of sweat still on me despite having arrived at least ten minutes before. It is only 32 degrees Celsius today, which seems cool after the 41 (105.8 Fahrenheit) we had yesterday. But I still laugh at the idea of snow and that it really is so far away from me here in Perth, Western Australia to where you are. Always enjoy your podcast. 💜

Hi Devin, I just got home from spending the day at the hospital and the first thing I did to unwind was watch your podcast. Watching you was a bright spot in an otherwise very emotional and stressful day. My 23 year old daughter had brain surgery today to repair her Arnold Chiari malformation at the base of her skull. (It also happens to be my husband’s birthday - what a way to celebrate!) Walking your daughter through brain surgery and recovery is not for the feint of heart. I’m so thankful for our network of friends and family who are praying and supporting us through this ordeal. Surgery went well and she is in recovery, which may take some time. Her husband stayed at the hospital with her and so the rest of us were able to come home. I’m knitting and watching yarny podcasts to unwind. Yours was the first one on my list because I absolutely love your podcast and feel like you are a dear-friend-whom-I’ve-never-met. Thanks for brightening my day.

Audiobooks…I love them, but don’t think I could do a textbook…I’m an underliner and note taker! Fun fact, since your friend your age just went back to get her Masters…it’s never too late! I went back to start my Bachelor’s when I was 50 and a few years later went for my Masters as well. I’m now 62, and about 10-11 years ago when I finished up my Masters I contacted a friend of mine who knit and said “Teach me to knit - I need to use the other side of my brain again!!” I had spent a number of years working full-time and going to school, and felt like I lost track of my creative side. She met me at a fast food restaurant with knitting needles and yarn and taught me to knit - I loved it and never looked back!! For my first project she said, just pick something that says “beginner”. I picked a scarf pattern and started knitting, but then one day I was a bit lost and couldn’t figure out what row I was on (didn’t know how to read my stitches yet), and my knitting friend was out of town…so I took the project in to a local yarn store and said “help”! She looked and read the stitches and told me what row I was on. She asked how long I’d been knitting and I told her. She said “Why are you making this pattern?!” I said, it says it’s a beginner pattern….well, it was a beginner cable scarf pattern! Ha Ha…I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Now, all these years later, I’ve retired, and 2 years ago I opened a yarn store…it’s been fantastic! Anyway - my point is, it’s never too late!!

It’s 20 in Texas too. You’re doing Audrey proud! Or are is the Hepburn names after Katherine?
As you asked about men knitting I thought of the ancestor who was said to knit. I think he was my grandmother’s uncle. He also was a surgeon and knit to keep his fingers agile. He would have lived in the mid 1800’s. On some historical sites it is said that only men knit many years ago because it was considered a privilege. There were pictures of shepherds knitting as they watched their flocks atop tall stilts.

Hi! I’m excited to knit up with Flux cowl in Jovis. I think it will be so beautiful and versatile. I will plan to go on the retreat next year. My little kids are getting to the point where I can slowly start venturing out into the world again. It feels weird. I think there are sometimes classes at knitting retreats? My 2 cents: I’d love to learn how to weave. I’ve been trying to find a local teacher but no luck so far. Anyways, thanks for the great podcast!

Hi there Devin! I was surprised by the fact that you're reading "Wool". I read it while I was watching the series "Silo" on Apple+, which is based on the trilogy which, of course, begins with "Wool". Wool is what the "cleaners" use to clean the camera lens outside the silo. I'm currently reading the second book in the series. I hope you enjoy it!

I watched the independent film you linked called “Wool” It started out pretty dark but I had to laugh at how she got her revenge! Honestly as I watched her stare at her knitting needles I thought she was going to use them to do him in 😂 Side note my son in law is an independent filmmaker and has won a few awards on his short films. I’ve gone to a couple film festivals with him and my daughter. I have to admit this is the first one I’ve seen about knitting 😂

I was a percteen and teenager in the 50's. The woman were not that thin. Same size as today's women. The pictures were just as sugary as today. And no body knitted those style or patterns. You had to be there. I was a size 12 then but by today's standard I'm a 6. So as you size those patterns check your gauge against their gauge.

As I reread this comment I sounded a little harsh. Please accept my apologies. But to help understand what the 50's were like watch some 1950's movies and then just tone it back some. Can't remember women wearing those styles. It just like today. Photos don't tell of those times accurately. They were there as advertisement so you would buy their products. Just like today.
