Very interesting video. As a Georgian that’s always been into history/ American history, “the lost cause” or civil war revisionism has always confused me. some people in the south are so obsessed with their “heritage” that they still identify with these confederates and get offended if you call the confederates traitors or slavery defenders. I love Georgia but i’ll never identify with its abhorrent past. none of that is on me, so why TF would i ever defend it???
They are the poison that is worse than any enemy army .. history is the elite using the poor to defend their wealth or to try and take other rulers wealth by telling the poor they are defending their own interest
I'm not that fond of our middle class right now who only protest or demonstrate when something happens to them or as an outburst of spontaneous outrage over particularly egregious behavior. Otherwise we seem to be content to spending all our time on social media complaining and whining
Why is this the first time I am hearing about this? I am an African American man and I went to a HBCU and took all kinds of African American history courses. Why is this not being taught along with the Trail of Tears, Black Wall Street, Emmett Till, 3 civil rights workers in MS etc etc? I have been living in a small town in Tennessee for 10+ years and just recently found out the last lynching in Nashville, TN on record was a 15-year-old boy less than 2 miles away from my house.
Yeah I know when my niece was in school I set her up on the computer she found the real history and I got a call saying that they will teach her history and I should butt out of it. I said she will learn the real history not the white washing history so if it hurts your feelings to bad. Well she got a bad grade I didn’t get mad I told her the whites of this country don’t want to feel bad on what happened. I’m still learning myself the more I learn the more I get sick to my stomach.
The US often reminds me of the HRE. The HRE was hegemonic in Europe on its time & its ruling class based their power, wealth, & legitimacy in the institutions of feudalism & monarchy. It was very well positioned to stay on top going into the modern era. It had the wealth, the military, the alliances -- every advantage you could want. But its ruling class found their material interests to be in opposition to industrial capital & liberalization, so rather than inheriting the new world order, they resisted it at every turn. Ultimately, this caused the HRE to be destroyed & relegated to the dustbin of history while other, lesser powers such as France & England mastered the new liberal world. The United States has every advantage today -- the wealth, the military, the technology, the alliances. We could use these things to maintain our hegemony in a new socialist world... but our ruling class finds that to be against their material interests. We've seen this story before.
I don't know the details very well, but thats what i heard. He wasn't even on the ballot the way i understand it he was planning on just getting elected in the electoral college if i'm not mistaken.
You may want to look at General Longstreet to see what the Union, Grant and Lincoln intended. Longstreet was one of Lee’s most trusted Generals and Advisors. He was Grants roommate at Westpoint and best friend. He welcomed him back with open arms at Appomattox. After the war, Longstreet became a reconstruction supporting Republican and supported the reforms. He even led a Black regiment to put down racial violence in Louisiana at the request of President Grant. Despite Longstreet being a good military commander and Robert E Lee’s most trusted, he became widely hated by former Confederates and you will notice he has no real monuments to him. To confederate sympathizers they deemed him a traitor. Grant had a remarkably progressive Presidency that has been whitewashed by confederate sympathizers as corrupt and incompetent. Only now recently being revived and better understood.

Interestingly enough the New York Times ran cover for that businessman's plot by calling General Smedley's testimony a hoax. Also the investigating committee refused to call most of the people named by Smedley as conspirators.

Especially since he has one of our best historians of the late nineteenth century in front of him.
Some interesting points, the most interesting take away though not really pointed out here is that all this Right left is nothing more than balls, as pointed out concerning prior to 2008 and Obama the republicans were considered left of the Democrats on race, this is a key point, not because of the stance, but because it show that the left right scale is a siding scale and there are many siding scales, in fact almost every issue is no a scale, which is often over simplified, that collectivism v individualism or state control v free enterprise, in the these case it often depends on how people view and understand these, some consider free enterprise to mean the small shop keeper and small business man, the small c form of capitalism (often those who identify as being on the right) however we must also consider that large corporation and constructs such as those of Bill Gates are the most capitalist is the sense of the C form, the irony is that thought many who class themselves as being on the left (*note that I used the word many rather than all) seem to claim to be against capitalism yet at the same time support the likes of Gates, is a state which is bed with a small number of elite business left or right wing? certainly if one truly studies history certain models which have used this have muddied the waters. In short the totality of left and right is often nothing more than a veneer if not a distraction from the darker sides of what is going on and a way to engender a collective response.
