Buckin’, hope all is well my brother. Having just experienced a chimney fire I commend you for giving advice here. Grew up heating with firewood and have never had it happen. We moved to a new house recently and had several fires issue free. Always burned seasoned wood as hot as possible. Didn’t realize the chimney cap had a good amount of creosote around the top. Sounded like a tiger torch when that thing lit off. Scary stuff. Luckily no harm done to the chimney or to the house. She’s freakin clean as a whistle now!!! Burned all the trash right out.
Ive only ever seen one chimney fire, and your torch analogy is exactly right. I was shocked at the rumbling noise that fire made. When my dad first saw the fire he raced us over there, just to show me why he was so insistent on keeping a hot fire. Message recieved and retained.
Happy anniversary to you two love birds! 30 years is amazing! I’m really looking forward to the adventures the forge will bring and the knowledge that will fills us all. Thank you buckin! Love wins always!

Wow, you folks aren't used to snow hanging around that long. We don't really have much of anything for snow in southeast Wisconsin, but that will probably change soon. Happy New Year to us all, let's make it a good one!
On my 72 ford 4x4 I use a big pipe wrench hook the jaws over the top of the gas pedal then the weight of the Handel will hold the gas pedal where ever you put it. Better than a choke. Oh and I didn’t learn this in ten minutes from watching videos. I learned from over 30 years of driving the truck. Oh and by the way my anniversary with this truck is Halloween. Congrats on 30 with your partner.
Yes ,chokes can drive you nuts . I also love manual chokes over auto chokes . Adjust carbs fully warmed up after thermostat opens and truck has run 20 minutes. Adjust auto chokes on cold day before start up . Adjust auto chokes to where butterfly is closed all the way but bairly touching . Start truck should be wide open after engine has run two minutes . If not replace choke thermostat . Manual choke ...go buy a new choke cable and on cold day pull out to close choke all the way. start truck . Slowly open choke as you drive should be able to have wide open choke by the time your heater blows warm . If truck is still cold natured re adjust carb mixture screws on front of carb ... make it alittle richer . Good video have a great new year .
that cold start info is great!! Its really a feel of having owned old rigs for a long time like yourself.. It becomes second nature after awhile, like tuning a guitar with just your own ears and not a mechanical tuner....Same goes with drums..You definitely tune your drums really good too!!
"It's not like something I read about on the internet a few weeks ago and now I'm a specialist" 🤣 Buckin you're too funny. The youtube master certified ( insert text ) Thanks for sharing real knowledge 😁👍
This year I bought some tree service maple had it delivered last February I got it cut to size and stacked it by end of March end of June I split it it burns.perfect like that also got 4 bundles of mixed hard wood slabs but those were nicely seasoned beautiful fires
Hey Buckin’. I got a Ford 300, 6 cylinder. 7 pumps and she’ll go. Sometimes I press down all the way and let up slowly. It’ll hit the detent and start and idle up. After warm up, you can punch quick and light (tap) and she’ll idle down. That’s not as predictable as the 7 pump method. It’d be hard for somebody to steal it ‘cause if you don’t get it right the first time, she’ll lay down on ya’, and no bueno. Then they’d have to figure out how to put it in gear. 😛. Second the fire method. Dry wood and let her rip. Chimney fires are no joke
Your mannerisms tell me you're a solid cat, and a very proud one to boot. If for some reason you're ever in missouri, I offer you a bed and warm meal. Be safe, sir
My dad has been splitting for 30 years. I've been splitting for around 8 years. I'm turning 15 in 4 days. Thank you so much for all your tips. I personally prefer splitting with a maul because I think you use less energy with them, but I respect axes as well. Axes are incredible, since they're so much more useful for everything else. Thanks for all the tips with sharpening chainsaws as well. Very useful, and Happy New Year!
I take automatic chokes and throw them in the trash. A manual choke makes life easier then trying to devine what the automatic choke wants or is trying to do.
Manual chokes are so easy to install on these old fords. With an edelbrock or holley. Usually you can buy them from LMC and they will match the trucks interior.
Having dealt with carburetors all my life, by feathering the accelerator pump, you are just richening up the fuel mix and using the stick increases rpm, works great! My old Chevy liked one full floor pump, then 1/2 to set choke, each vehicle is different, so as with the weather, knowing where you live, the climate and the weather is just as important as knowing how to build a fire!...yes I heat with wood!
I had a 1977 ford with a 351M and I will have one some day again. They are great trucks, working with a carburetor is a skill that we are losing. My father in law taught me how to start the truck in the cold. He also taught me about spark plug gaps! I had no idea when you put them in you had to gap them and he didn’t make me feel too bad when he told me what I did wrong.
Always love them lil tricks to getting the old iron goin in the cold. I use a ice scraper against the seat in my old square body Chevy to set fast idle. Edelbrock carburetor with no choke
Happy new Year to you all from italy. Stay safe. Well done about your new job as blacksmith. The man must be grow up in every time!. Good luck. As well you say love wins. Be kind. ciao Riccardo

Dry hard wood wont smoke unlike softwood i believe its the sap that makes softwood smoke keep up the great videos happy new years to you and your family
Dry hardwood certainly will smoke. It’s easier to get hot enough to burn clean, but it’s just like an engine. When rich and having poor combustion it smokes. Get it hot enough for full combustion (lean it out) and it is clean. Dry hardwood doesn’t generate as much creosote, but it will leave buildup that is flammable if it builds up enough. Softwoods have more internal moisture keeping temps down and the burn rich like green hardwood. Creosote is mainly partially burned sap. Every tree has some sap, softwoods just have more. In the east we don’t burn any softwood like pine, fir or

Funny, a lot of people don't really get the technique of the light pump. Works for all kinds of things and it's a technique. Can't just go pumping away, have to feel the engine.
If you have single wall stovepipe you can put a thermometer on it (magnetic or maybe laser), keep that pipe between 259-400°F and you'll be fine. I just had my chimney cleaned after 19 months of usage. Not a single bit of creosote, only small amounts of soot. I burn only cedar and oak.
…as long as the wood is dry. I burned a mix of red oak that was extremely dry, and ash and poplar which had been cut just that fall. The difference in creosote buildup was exactly as dramatic as the internet would tell you. I ran a brush down it three times in 2 months, just to be safe. This year the wood is dry. Looking great.
Ive been burning along long time. I find if i load wood into the stove. 3 layers deep, like a log cabin fire lay. 2big pieces on the sides/bottom, front to back. Then 2or3 pieces right to left and 1 piece on top of that. Light up at the center bottom. That stove will roar and heat the entire house. Then drop some big pieces in and shut down the dampeners and pipe plate. Then you are set. That stove has a great coal bed and wood to burn. Coals heat your home. Flaming logs dont
That works based on stove shape. I prefer long ones that burn the wood like a cigar. I had both growing up and have had both in my house. With a long one you can actually get it sounding like a jet engine when it’s breathing and getting things going because all airflow is aiding the fire just like a jet engine. I find the long style much easier to get a 14-16 hour temp maintaining burn in which is nice if you work 12 hour days, or just like it to still be warm in the morning when you get up.
In the Netherlands people have to pay CA $414 per 1 Cord of wood. Even driving a 40 year Ford F150 cost annual CA $3500 a year. Cutting a tree down without legal felling paper work sets you back with a fine of 1500 CA$ per tree. This 4th EU Brussel Reich is one big disease. Everything cost a huge fortune, and nothing but tax rules. I like woodstove fire's ,4x4 trucks, hunting and the outdoor life but in this place of earth life is not healthy. I find it nice too see that you guys in BC have a free normal life. You enjoy life every day. That so nice to see.

Can we take a moment and appreciate how easy that old girl lit up on that key turn? Music to my ears.
