We saw 15-20 metre waves during my 17/18 leg 6 (North Pacific crossing) during a storm in which winds exceeded 50kts for 24 hours, and hit 100kts for a good hour. Not sure why you think there will be 40m waves.

On Visit Seattle our boat speed topped out at around 30kts surfing down those waves. Other boats hit 35kts. In those conditions helming is extremely hard on the shoulders.
