Just purchased a TSO and shot it for the 1st time yesterday. AMAZING pistol. This CZ #5. P01, 97B, SP01 Phantom and a P10S round out the CZ line up. All of them are a pleasure to shoot and extremely reliable. If you have never shot a CZ, do yourself a favor and try them.
One of the very few Utube pistol review videos that was actually informative comparison. I've been back and forth between both CZ models and several other companies now offering out-of-box competitive pistols for my next purchase compared to my normal expensive $2500 custom build to obtain an adequate competitive platform. I'm old school competitive shooter since the mid 80s and love the fact firearm industries finally started to offer custom builds. Until the last few years I have waited several months and 1000s of dollars for super match barrels and bore alignment builds to simply mount suppressors on pistols, rifles, and NFA registered machine guns. Back in the day I spent crazy money on high-end gunsmiths across the US to customize my competitive firearms, but now life as a fanatical gun nut has become as simple as finding the right information. I did notice your trigger pull test technique a little inconsistence with pull methods. You had a slight angle of pull 2nd attempt to last and you engaged very bottom of trigger. First attempt you test pulled horizontal level with pistol frame resulting 1.5lbs. and all other attempts producing 2+lbs. with slight downward angle pulls, which does not simulate finger direction travel also engaging most often center of trigger leg length. Use Trigger Gauge pull rod horizontal level with pistol frame method and try different areas of trigger leg length to calculate average of high, middle, and low trigger engagements. Width of the human finger actually engages the majority of curved triggers normally straight horizontal level pull with pistol frames. Overall good video comparison, Thanks.
The CZ Orange Tactical Sport is the most accurate pistol I’ve ever shot in my entire life and I’ve been shooting competitions for 30 years...The Shadow 2 is No slouch however.....either one and u are guaranteed a very, very fine pistol
Went down to my LGS that said they had the TSO. However, on arrival it was actually a SP-01 Shadow Orange and about $400 more than the TSO. I held off and am looking for some more info or a comparison on those. Thanks for this informative vid! --all your vids are top notch
As a lefty, it's depressing seeing really nice guns that scream "RIGHT HANDED ONLY!" The Shadow 2 seems a little more forgiving for us southpaws, however.
indeed. lefty too with shadow 2, im having troubles finding the extended safety for the right side. it came with extended one for the left side like in the video. wish they included both sides.
Thanks again Big Johnson. I took your advice and bought a 1441 Curve for my CZ 75B which incidentally I think is a better model than the shadow. Least in my hand.
I've always thought they had the cz names messed up on the TS lineup. Tactical should the the shadow. Since it has a DA/SA trigger and a tacrail. Never considered the TS tactical at all lol. Am I wrong? They should have named it the competition model etc. And the shadow as the tactical imo.
Thank you for your review. When comparing the CZ Shadow 2 to the CZ TS Orange, is there any difference in the frame, more specific beaver tail and trigger guard undercut? In other words, can you grip the S2 as high as the TS?
Yes you can grip them both high. The grip size is a tad wider with stock grips on the TSO. You should ✔️out my Instagram, I have 3 S2’s 2 are optic ready & the TSO has an optic as well. Thanks for Watching, Carry On
Nice review! I had owned both. Both great guns! One thing I prefer about the S2 is the weight in the front of the pistol. I feel it helps tremendously.
badbilly429 I probably can use the orange, this is an IDPA ish club rules. But with the Orange I need an open holster because of the kick stand. I may run it one day. TFW BB, Carry On!
Do they make a left handed safety and left handed magazine release. I should just switch to right handed because it is my dominant eye. it just feels odd hooting right handed.
I'm a lefty and right eye dominant. It's not a big deal. Line the sights up and go bang. As far as manipulating all of the right handed stuff using your left hand, it's not that hard to learn. It is, however, the reason I carry a VP9. It's truly ambi.
I just bought a TS2 a couple weeks ago, and I've had a Shadow 2 for about the last seven months. I used the S2 at matches last year and it's awesome, but I found a good deal on a TS2, and I loved the trigger from dry firing one, so I figured I might as well just buy that instead of upgrading my S2. I've put about 5k rounds through my S2 but since I got my TS2, it's the only gun I've shot. I absolutely love my TS2. I only paid a hundred bucks more for it than my S2, but it feels like the barrel to bushing, barrel to slide, and slide to frame fitment are all way tighter on my TS2 than S2, and it seems more accurate too. At ten yards and under, it just shoots right where I'm aiming. It's awesome, and I can't wait to use it at matches!!!
@@BigJohnsonGG Have you seen that they are planning on selling the racing green version of the TS2 here in the United States? It has a frame mounted thumb rest, a green paddle mag release, green grip panels, and green mag base plates. The thumb rest is the main attraction for me. I can install the paddle mag release myself. I held and dry fired both the TSO and TS2, but they wanted $1900 for the TSO and $1750 for the TS2, and I had seen it advertised at Vance Outdoor for like $1530. I liked how the shape of the trigger guard and the slide profile were so similar between the TS2 and the Shadow 2 that I've been using. Then, after I found a local shop that offered to order one for me for $1430, I couldn't pass up that deal! I rented a Staccato P 2011 about a month and a half ago. It was really nice, and I liked how the bull barrel reduced the felt recoil, but it seems like my TS2 is better than the Stacatto! I'll have to try the Stacatto again, head to head with my TS2, but I think I prefer the TS2. My ultimate goal is to get a CZ Czechmate, and do USPSA Open Major Power factor and load my own ammo. It would be awesome if I could get sponsored, but I know that's a long shot.
The safety on CZ Orange is heavier when you pull it up because in open devision you do not use a double action trigger and you need to have your gun on safe when you are holstered. When you are ready to shoot the safety is disengaged and while shooting you do not want to bump up your safety and lock your pistole in the middle of the stage, that is why it is harder to engage safety than to disengage it. CZ's are the best competition ready pistols on the market!!
@@BigJohnsonGG You can actually take an S2 safety and put it on the TSO. I had to do it with my Czechmate (which is a TSO Frame) because the stock safety was TOO easy to move and it kept getting bumped during recoil or quick draws and would be engaged.
Changed recoil spring to 11 lb, and put moly lube on hammer and sear. Trigger pull is consistently 1 lb 2 oz. Pull to the wall and it breaks at 1/2 lb. I love it.
I just got the Shadow 2 Orange. Supposedly it has tighter grouping and shorter trigger pull. Not sure about the poundage of pull. Wonder how the new Shadow 2 Orange stacks up against the A01 and TSO
Thanks for the great video Keep it up! Do you think the accuracy could be comparable if the Shadow had the same trigger characteristics as the TS? And do the have a similar felt recoil?
I love my shadow tac 2, I own about 10 firearms now there are days when I go off-roading and just take my tac 2 and a couple hundred rounds to plink around with such a nice pistol! Have had my eye on the TSO for some time now... 👍🏽
Love the TSO. Hoping to pick one up fairly soon. Quick question ?? I haven't held one yet. How much thicker (if any) is it than the Shadow 2? That's the one thing I love about the S2 is it's thin and fits my bad had really well. Thanks!!
+SevenTv 7 TSO I haven't measured it but they almost feel about the same to me. Maybe a tad thicker? I'll try to measure them for you when I get back in town & let you know. What part of TX are you In? Im in N Dallas Area! TFW Carry On!
So which gun do you prefer? I saw that you made a more recent video saying that the only thing better than a shadow 2 is another shadow 2. In my opinion, the shadow 2 looks nicer, has a front serrations, a picatinny rail and seems safer to carry. I never had a double action gun. I have money for both. Which one should I get? If I get a TSO I would change the grip handel to black. And isn't a metal trigger better?
@@BigJohnsonGG Thank you. That is the answer I was looking for. The TSO only seems better because of a 20 round mag and SA but on the other hand, it is bigger, heavier, has no rail and serrations. That metal trigger on the Shadow 2 looks nice, kind of like a cowboy gun, while the TSO looks like a cannon.
@@BigJohnsonGG I watched your vid on the only thing better than a S2 is another S2. So you have 3 S2s and 1 TSO and prefer the S2 for competion although the SA and crazy light trigger on the TSO? I am not to the mods yet. I have only been three times to the range so far with my Canik TP9 SA, which I like but find the trigger kind of mushy. The next guns I plan to buy are the Cz P-10s, P-10f, TSO or S2. Good choice? In my country SIGs P226 made in Europe are popular but are super expensive.
Yep, I shot the S2 in Outlaw. Now I have 3 S2’s and they are trimmed of weight & milled for red dots & I shot them in USPSA carry optics. Thanks for Watching, Carry On
Its more important for him to put the puller consistently on the same spot, at the bottom of the trigger. You will always get different readings when you're putting the puller all over different positions of the trigger; because it has more leverage, the further down the trigger you are. People need to understand this when you're shooting long range rifles too; pull the trigger from the very bottom to get maximum leverage, the least weight of pull and keep it the most consistent.
I'd like to see a comparison video of all of the competition models offered by CZ. I have the Shadow 2 SA and can't decide what I want next between the Shadow 2 Orange, TSO, Accushadow, A01,etc. I love watching your channel, they're really informative. Keep up the good work.
I am confused. I just got what I thought was a CZ Shadow 2. Box and paperwork say it is so. However the grip is orange just like the tactical. It say CZ 75 on the slide yet it is DA/SA. The magazine is normal
Big Johnson Guns and Gear ok makes sense. I was actually borrowing the gun from a friend as my Beretta went to Wilson for some work. I just found out he bought it used on gunbroker. So it is tricked out orange or they just changed the grips. Beautiful gun. How was the orange model tricked out?
The previous owner may have kept them? Look a shadow 2 orange up & compare what yours has to what it says come on them. Someone also could have just put orange grips on it? Hard to know without seeing it? Carry on
You would think so, but I have never experienced that with either pistol while shooting or even while carrying the shadow 2 in an IWB holster for the last year. The mag release on both these guns are easy to access and manipulate yet they provide enough tension that your not going to accidentally depress either one easily.
2 things that I think need to be clearer in this video. I have both of these pistols also and love them both : 1. The TS is considerable larger in the grip than the Shadow2. They do not even feel like the same brand of pistol. 2. The SHadow2 is not IDPA legal. I actually shoot a older Shadow in IDPA. I wish I could shoot the Shadow2!!!!
Oh my God, yes! I held them both yesterday and the 75 just felt too large for my small hands. But the shadow 2 seemed like perfect fit. Im really tempted to get one now.
So the Shadow 2 is IDPA legal in the USA, but the optic ready Shadow 2 is not Production optic legal because of the weight? That is just messed up. In Canada I can’t shoot an iron sighted Shadow 2 because it’s over the weight limit for IDPA. It’s time everyone standardizes. You guys should be allowed to shoot the CZUB OR Shadow 2 in the PO Division which is Carry Optics I guess, right? Which also doesn’t make sense because Carry Optics should be IDPA, not IPSC/USPSA.
Come in late to this but CZ Custom has an extended safety that you don't flip up or down. You just roll you thumb forward to turn off or roll back to turn on.
Big J the p320 drop discharge is no joke ! My friends and I at fmj did our own drop test this am . The results where not good ( brand new out of the box ) it discharged several times .Alex called the sig rep told him to come pick up his inventory asap . Now to cover his ass he is contacting all folks he sold them to . Wow what a mess ! We never liked this gun from get go . Be careful if you own one , and just think they sig just won that big government contact . Scary stuff brother! Be safe K
Both great guns, but completely different triggers (DA/SA vs SAO) and usages. It all depends on what you’re using them for and if it’s competition, which division you’re shooting determines which you can use.
if you pull from the bottom of the trigger curve you will get a lighter pull. It would be more accurate if you measured it from the middle of the trigger.
Big Johnson Guns and Gear i think the rules changed and the weight went up. I only do 3 gun right now but i want to get into some idpa i want to make sure i can shoot ssp for what i get since my glock is alredy an esp
+joseph danao Cool, I would look up the rules to be for sure. Someone said there to long so some guys grind off the beaver tail to be under the length. TWF Carry On
Enjoyed your review thanks, BUT Please pull straight back on the trigger pull test and have the device in the middle of the trigger! You are pulling at all angles giving weird readings, and the device is on parts of the trigger that is not natural for you finger to be
When measuring trigger pull make sure you're pulling the trigger perpendicular to the trigger. These readings were done off angle and erroneous. Esp the TSO.
Polymer trigger? 4:47. I had to hear that a few times to make sure it wasn't my imagination. Polymer trigger on an $1,800 pistol. Why would CZ do that?
Big Johnson Guns and Gear I've always had an affinity for the CZ75 design, they can definitely be carried concealed given the proper holster and atire ;-)
DPC has a Outlaw Club rules IDPA ish event, some others ran bigger. There are actually people now cutting the beaver tails off S2 & making weight in legal IDPA Weight. TFW Carry On
Understood....! (As the max unloaded weight of an SSP-legal pistol is 39 ounces, that must be a pretty chunky beavertail...unless it is only the size box that matters in some places) :)
Yep a lot are only box size & they will also run lighter grips & baseplates as well to make the weight. In true IDPA I run a P-09 & Sp-01. TFW Brother, Carry On
I saw a stat (possibly at CZ's website) that said some 40-50% of competitors in one or two of the recent IDPA Nationals were using CZ variants; I'd guess everyone wants all 38.9 legal ounces in SSP when possible :)

Your welcome, TFW Brother! carry on
I just got a smoking deal on a 2011 , but still maybe looking for a shadow 2.
I'd like to see a comparison video of all of the competition models offered by CZ. I have the Shadow 2 SA and can't decide what I want next between the Shadow 2 Orange, TSO, Accushadow, A01,etc. I love watching your channel, they're really informative. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Brother! Carry on
could these be used as bear guns or field guns?
They are only 9mm but can carry a lot of rounds! TFW Carry On
I am confused. I just got what I thought was a CZ Shadow 2. Box and paperwork say it is so. However the grip is orange just like the tactical. It say CZ 75 on the slide yet it is DA/SA. The magazine is normal
That is the Shadow Orange. It’s like a tricked out shadow but has the orange trim.
The real shadow oranges have orange grips & mag ext & Trigger Kit & some have a barrel bushing. Carry on
Big Johnson Guns and Gear This one does not have orange mag extender
The previous owner may have kept them? Look a shadow 2 orange up & compare what yours has to what it says come on them. Someone also could have just put orange grips on it? Hard to know without seeing it? Carry on
Another worry is long may release begs to be pressed while shooting
Never has happened with me with either pistol..even under stress in competition! Carry on
You would think so, but I have never experienced that with either pistol while shooting or even while carrying the shadow 2 in an IWB holster for the last year.
The mag release on both these guns are easy to access and manipulate yet they provide enough tension that your not going to accidentally depress either one easily.
2 things that I think need to be clearer in this video. I have both of these pistols also and love them both :
1. The TS is considerable larger in the grip than the Shadow2. They do not even feel like the same brand of pistol.
2. The SHadow2 is not IDPA legal. I actually shoot a older Shadow in IDPA. I wish I could shoot the Shadow2!!!!
+Stephen Trindall TFW Carry On!
It’s already been done a guy I shoot with cut the beaver tail off of his & lighter grips & baseplate & made the weight easy! TFW Carry On
I will see what I can do, yes Indeed! Carry on
Oh my God, yes! I held them both yesterday and the 75 just felt too large for my small hands. But the shadow 2 seemed like perfect fit. Im really tempted to get one now.
Just do it! TFW Carry On
I am confused , how do you shoot theShadow 2 in IDPA? Isn’t it to heavy?
ua-cam.com/video/-gOHVgTW9XY/v-deo.html
It’s was an Unofficial / Outlaw version match.
What's the difference between the TS and TSO?
TSO lower is a Czechmate Frame with kickstand for left thumb or optic bracket & mag well, also Hand fitted & polished. TFW Carry On
So the Shadow 2 is IDPA legal in the USA, but the optic ready Shadow 2 is not Production optic legal because of the weight? That is just messed up. In Canada I can’t shoot an iron sighted Shadow 2 because it’s over the weight limit for IDPA. It’s time everyone standardizes. You guys should be allowed to shoot the CZUB OR Shadow 2 in the PO Division which is Carry Optics I guess, right? Which also doesn’t make sense because Carry Optics should be IDPA, not IPSC/USPSA.
This was an IDPA Outlaw match so you could shoot what you bring...not an official match. Thanks for Watching! Carry on
Great information thanks for sharing Big Johnson.
+Luke DAWG Thanks LD, I appreciate ya Brother! Carry On!
A pair of beauties that I would love to own either as thanks for the info....Good stuff...
+Scott F. Thanks Brother, Carry On!
Shadow 2 is heavier than the IDPA weight limit, are you sure you shot IDPA? Or maybe it wasn't weighed?
It was an outlaw club match, Carry On
Dear Big Johnson, what about the S2 Orange?
Have 1 that’s customized even a tad better with the bushing, CGW Kit & all plus it’s milled for a DPP. Carry on
@@BigJohnsonGG The Shadow 2 Orange, seems to be the winner. It even has a bigger mag...
finally someone made this video,i really want to know which one is the king of CZ
TFW Carry On
i bought a TSO about one year ago, really love it.and i ordered one Shadow 2 at the last day of 2017,should be here on this Saturday
Cool, Congratulations! TFW Carry On
Come in late to this but CZ Custom has an extended safety that you don't flip up or down. You just roll you thumb forward to turn off or roll back to turn on.
Cool, TFW Carry On
You have some nice pistols. Very good job on the reviews...I enjoyed it.
Glocked 17 Thanks my Brother, carry On!
The trigger pull test should be on the center of the trigger shoe.
I pull from where my finger rest on it. Thanks for Watching, Carry On
I really like the looks of the Shadow 2,...but I don't like the feel of the backstrap. I wish they hadn't done so much of an angle.
They did it so you can get even higher up on the Pistol for a better locked in grip. I prefer it over the On S1 frame, TFW Carry On!
The orange grips are just a bit more sexy.
Staticjm35 😜 TFW Brother, Carry On!
Be safe K
+keith kent Thanks Brother, I do own one & carry it all the time! Carry On!
Both great guns, but completely different triggers (DA/SA vs SAO) and usages. It all depends on what you’re using them for and if it’s competition, which division you’re shooting determines which you can use.
I’m aware of that, but I had a lot of demand to compare them! TFW Carry On
No worries, great guns
if you pull from the bottom of the trigger curve you will get a lighter pull. It would be more accurate if you measured it from the middle of the trigger.
I test from where I pull it, Carry On
does anyone know if the cz 75 ts mags work with a cz75?
No They won’t, Carry w
@@BigJohnsonGG thanks for the reply!
Isn’t the black and blue a 17+1?
You can use the shadow in idpa ssp correct? But you cant use tso in ssp?
+joseph danao The shooting club I go to uses IDPA ish club rules! With by the book IDPA it may to big for the box & weight! TFW Carry On
Big Johnson Guns and Gear i think the rules changed and the weight went up.
TWF Carry On
Big Johnson Guns and Gear oooo i see i read ppl modify it. Ok thank you!!
+joseph danao Yes Sir, TFW Carry On
awesome review thanks a lot
Andy luxembourg Thanks, I appreciate ya! Carry On!
I just got my cz sp01 tactical, idk exactly what upgrades to do to it, anybody out here can help?
You can do a basic spring kit to lighten up the DA. Thanks for Watching, Carry On
@@BigJohnsonGG thanks, Will do
Grip widths?
Price ??
Wish the TSO trigger could be swap into a cz p09
Thanks for Watching, Carry On
Shadow 2 is Life ............ the Hammer
It is a great pistol! TFW Carry On
Just shot my shadow last week. What an amazing gun. Holy cow is it nice
+Joey Cuz Yes Sir, TFW Carry On!
Enjoyed your review thanks,
BUT
Please pull straight back on the trigger pull test and have the device in the middle of the trigger!
You are pulling at all angles giving weird readings, and the device is on parts of the trigger that is not natural for you finger to be
TFW Carry On
Great video thanks for the upload, its still very relevant.
Thanks for Watching, Is what still relevant? Carry on
@@BigJohnsonGG comparing these 2 models :) Much appreciated!
Zhanny you may want to ✔️ out my newest video..I think you will like it! Thanks for Watching, Carry On
When measuring trigger pull make sure you're pulling the trigger perpendicular to the trigger. These readings were done off angle and erroneous. Esp the TSO.
Nice very nice. Good info
Isyour6covered® Thanks Rick, I appreciate ya brother. #CZLIFE Carry On!
Thanks for the video, good information
Thanks Brother, TFW Carry On
I thought the shadow 2 is not IDPA legal... I have an SP01 that I am trying to cajunize for IDPA without the race hammer
+JimSigP226 The club I shoot at its IDPA is Rules! People have shaved the beaver tail to make length & done other thinks to make weight! TFW Carry On
+JimSigP226 IDPA ish rules at the club I shoot at!
Very nicely done sir #CZLIFE
Thecrazy Scotsman Thanks Brother, #CZLIFE Carry On!
did he say polymer trigger?
Yes That’s what the TSO comes with, but it’s super nice.
Can't go wrong with either one!😎ty
Abaddon 12 No Sir not at all! TFW Brother, Carry On!
Random question but will the TSO slide fit/function on the shadow 2 frame?
Not sure, they are both fitted so I won’t try it. Carry on
I don’t care 🤷🏻♂️ if it’s loaded or not u can’t shoot me
This to be honest
Polymer trigger? 4:47. I had to hear that a few times to make sure it wasn't my imagination. Polymer trigger on an $1,800 pistol. Why would CZ do that?
They have on a few models for ever with no issues. Most of all you striker pistols have them, STI as them as well. Thanks for Watching, Carry On
Polish the safety innards. I’ve got a Checzmate and my safety is buttery.
So jealous! I hope to join the CZMafia this year.
Scott Coile Don't be Brother, we will be glad to have ya! TFW Brother #CZLIFE Carry On!
I like them both!
Keith Gregory Thanks KG, I appreciate ya! Carry On!
The CZ SP01 is one of the most accurate semi auto pistols I've ever owned...
+Jared Green Its nice indeed! These have much better triggers so there even better On accuracy! TFW Carry On!
Big Johnson Guns and Gear I've always had an affinity for the CZ75 design, they can definitely be carried concealed given the proper holster and atire ;-)
+Jared Green Yes Sir indeed, carry On!
I will take both ..
Rudy The worker Thanks Rudy! Carry On!
Nice pistols sir!
Huligone Thanks Brother, Carry On!
Very nice
jeff fleser Thanks Brother, I appreciate ya! Carry On!
2:53 -- what IDPA event were you shooting this 47 ounce /too heavy for IDPA/illegal behemoth at without a sense of competitive decency??? :)
43 ounces in ESP, perhaps that is viable....
Yep a lot are only box size & they will also run lighter grips & baseplates as well to make the weight. In true IDPA I run a P-09 & Sp-01. TFW Brother, Carry On
I saw a stat (possibly at CZ's website) that said some 40-50% of competitors in one or two of the recent IDPA Nationals were using CZ variants; I'd guess everyone wants all 38.9 legal ounces in SSP when possible :)
great review big Johnson hey those are almost as nice as my Glocks!
Pops Quest Thanks Maybe some day, I can work up to those 😜..Not! #CZLIFE Carry On!
Pops Quest lol
😂🤣
Great job
Thanks Brother, Carry On
