Great video! I used most of this setup for the first time this past Sunday. Already had the Keystation 88 and the iPad mini. Downloaded the MKSensation app. Great piano/string/pad sounds. Man John Mike! You've been poppin' up regularly in my recent "gear acquisition syndrome" wormholes on the UA-cam homie. That rig setup right there ticks all the boxes for me.
Cheap as chips, lightweight, independent monitoring control. That's pretty dang slick I must say.
You actually turned me on to the MidiPlus AKM320 I ordered the very day I fried my M-audio Oxygen 25.
Man, I've been playing multiple instrument self taught for 30+ years, but have only just recently within the past 3 years now fully discovered & embraced the endless potential of what midi keys and controllers are capable of. Piano was never my strong point at all, and I come from a completely different musical background, but I'm being real honest with you, I finally downloaded the free LABS sample packs from Spitfire Audio last night, loaded up a couple of cinematic instrument tracks set to click in Reaper?! Dude, my little John Williams wanna be self didn't go to bed till 5 am!! LMAO! It's an inspiring thing. Anyway, this comment is getting thick.

That was the thing for me, when I was young, I could carry around all that gear now that I’m older, those days are over. Portable is where it’s at, my nectar GX 61 and my iPad Air 2 and powered speaker and I’m good to go
This is the best thing I've ever tryed, and bro, I am super satisfied. I don't have to lug my big Roland juno stage around anymore and our MoX8 and Mo6 stays at church. Triton pro X at home but my Ipad Air 2 and Nektar controller and two Ev powered speakers always on the fly whenever I'm on the go. Thanks Man.

Can’t believe I hadn’t found this before. Got a Nektar GX61 last year after I had to switch from bass to keys and been using GarageBand since, but your rig is really solid. Thanks for the video!

This one I sat down at was a Yamaha DXG 640. I just showed up to play with my ipad, USB cable, MKSensation, and Prime, and plugged into their system. it plugged and played for me fine. volume on the keyboard was turned all the way down.
Decarius Spells if you want more tactile control then you're going to want to get either a midi board(I have a necktar impact 61) with assignable knobs and faders...or you are going to need to get a portable Midi control surface like a korg nano-control or a akai lpd 8...in which case you will also need to get a USB hub to plug up both your board and your control surface

John Mike, thanks for all of your great videos. Can you do an updated version of this video? It is very helpful; but I wonder if what iPad recommendations you would have for 2023. I notice that you recommended the Prime & imaschine software for backing tracks. Would that be your recommendation for backing tracks in a live (small) church service when there is no drummer or as a compliment to a drummer? To be able to, in real time, adjust the tempo of a shout track and so on? That would be a very helpful video.

I have the same headphone amp. Cool way of using it. MK sensations is a great app too. Check out the AUM app . It’s a super mixer.
Do you need to have a power cable for the amp? I was wanting to get one and wasn’t sure if I should get the one with the power adapter

MK sensation is fire, it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Now even better is the MKSensation extreme, you gotta check that out.

update! i went out and bought an iPad and downloaded loops. Today was awesome. Eventhough I have a bass, lead, and drummer, the stems helped enhance our sound. The click track was good with keeping our tempos locked. And guess what? Guitar player going to be out of time. it's cool. turn the guitar stem on!
That’s one thing I like about loops, before Covid, we had a full band, after Covid, it’s just myself on keys and my drummer, And sometimes on Wednesdays it’s just me. Loops makes it sounds just like it used to be when we were a full band.

Hello, I have a problem of dynamic on my M-AUDIO KEYSTATION88 MKII. The black keys are much more sensitive than the black keys. This boring problem is experienced by many people on the net.

A few more questions, my church has a Kurzweil, I think its a ps 88 I believe. it an older model and I have a mm6 do you think I still need to get a controller or would one of these work. What about using this through an keyboard am and then send out to the main board? Am using a power speaker as an amp but the sound is not to good. I know am asking a lot of questions. Thanks

@@marianosax I've learned how.u can do 2 ways use a small analog mixer say 2 -6 chanel and use a male dual xlr split to 1/8 inch cable from your tablet to 2 xlr channels on the mixer.then u will send a 1/4 inch patch cable from the "aux send jack on the mixer to a DI box .then conect xlr on the other end of DI box to the snake that will go to the house.one chanel on your small mixer will be click lower the aux send knob all the way so u only hear it in your ears.the second chanel will be the loop your sending to front of the house that one u will give the aux send knob volume to the front of the house.and the main for each chanel u will turn up as well.also make sure aux to main button is pressed in and main to aux button isnt..the other way is much easier .u need 2 DI boxes and a dual 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch cable. 1/8 inch goes to tablet or iPhone the dual 1/4 go one to each DI box.then 2 xlr from each DI box to 2 empty channels on the snake. The audio engineer will have to send the 1 click chanel to in ear monitors and the other chanel for front of the house

The subscription aspect of the Loop Community Prime app makes it undesirable for me, as it seems that you may only upload stems if you’re subscribing - correct? Do you know of any other similar iPad apps that don’t require a subscription to load up your own full stem tracks?

Hey John Mike, I'm trying to simplify my question but it may not work lol...How do you get the guide/cues tracks to your singers for direction when using stems in the PRIME app with this setup? It seems like only you and your drummer gets them. Do the singers just have the direction pre-mapped for them?
Just me and the drummer get them...since I can skip around the song I just follow the leader of the song
I got an Ipad pro with the USB C , and I am really confused about what I need and what I dont as far as Live rig situation , I have an Sub Mixer with balanced outputs that I can connect to , My question is : Do I really need a DI Box AND ! An Audio interface ??? and if Yes , why ?? I'll mostly be using it for Live performance and occasional midi recording ( NO or minimal Audio )

+BroJona you can do that from your controller or keyboard and the software will adjust...check out Galileo Organ...sounds a lot better than the GarageBand one in my opinion...and it has the Leslie switch and a ton of tweakable parameters

Yep, Galileo is fire, I started with the GarageBand Organ too since Our old C3 Organ give up the ghost. But for keys strings and pads, MKSENSATION Is the way to go but there are other greats out there as well. Ravenscroft has beautiful pianos, it’s best to go and explore.

Hi, how do you manage the power supply of the IPAD, does the IPAD be charged from the M-audio keystation trough the camera kit...?
No it doesn't my keystation is powered by the iPad...battery life is excellent...I use it all the way though two 2-hour services(4-hours of continuous usage and still have about 60% battery left after church

I bought a behringer stage mixer(little small 5-channel mixer) it has EQ on it so I can adjust the lows, Mids and highs on it to get a better sound

I'm running iMPC & MkSen simultaneously. The MkSen is acting as a trigger to the MPC app. Certain lets starting the loop/recoding a loop. How do I disable that!?
Try putting your midi controller and the MKsensation app on a different midi channel
Put them on both on the same midi channel...any channel besides channel 1

I ran into an issue last night. First time using the app. I don't know how to:
1. turn the WHOLE THING DOWN without fumbling with the side of the Ipad, which is nearly impossible on the fly. is there an on-board way to adjust the volume up or down in this app down globally? one slider at a time isn't working well.
2. Guy sat down to play for his group and asked me where the transpose button was.... Is there one?

hey john, if im using ipad to run mk sensation and prime at the same time and I wanted only the mk sensation to come out my piano amp and wanted only the stems to go out to the house, how would I do that?

Hi Erik. It looks like it does. At 4:55 I see a 'Reverb' control in the lower left section of the app's dashboard.
How do you do a midi unlearn in this app? I made a mistake and assigned #5 the power grand to the sustained pedal and it's driving me crazy

Hey John one more question how have you managed to balance between you playing the iPad and the drummer being able to here the click track with out you being to loud while playing keys since they both coming from the same source
+Brandon no magic tricks...just trial and error...in my case my drummer actually prefers to hear the whole mix in his ears...in an ideal situation you would have more separation (using a multioutput interface) for the drummer to have his own submix

Pan left/right click and cues on the left...track on the right
But that means the track is then in mono only, right ?
Whats good man? If im running mksensation and another app with a bass on it is there any way while having the bass split , can i have the bass not hold while im.holding the sustain pedal....?

Check out an app called AUM it’s a music app host that lets you load all of your music apps in one app...you can filter things out like sustain pedal and all that

What is a stem?
Pre-recorded audio files used in live performances...some call them backing tracks...the main difference is that with stems you can control the individual volumes on each part of the song...so you can turn the bass up or down or turn the drums up etc etc
How do you get mkSensation to play in the background? When I switch to prime, MkSensation no longer works.
There’s been a problem with mksensation and prime playing together since like iOS 11...we haven’t been able to figure it out
