  • In this video, ‪@VolunteerValues‬ walks us through why we periodically move the herd from one field to another and why it is important not to only rely on spring grass for nutrients for your beef.

Is there any way to manage the plants that grow in you sections that would help balance the deficiency? or is that just a spring plants thing?

@berrean8339 One way to manage the plants in your fields to balance the nutrition deficiency in spring grass for cows is through rotational grazing. This involves dividing your pasture into smaller sections and rotating the cows through them. This allows for better utilization of different types of plants, ensuring a more balanced diet for the cows. Additionally, you can consider planting legumes like clover or alfalfa, which are rich in protein and can help improve the nutritional content of the pasture. Soil testing and fertilization based on the specific nutrient deficiencies can also aid in promoting healthier grass growth. We don’t do soil testing in fields for the cows although this year we did for a garden to see where we were lacking for plant growth, but once you start soil testing you need to mark it on your calendar and test every year around the same time to see the best results.
