The RV Water System is pretty easy to understand, once you know what goes where and why. This is an in-depth overview.
Hooking Up RV Water or Filling the Tank is easy since your RV has all the comforts of home. Including running water! Of course, since this is a home on wheels, you need to either; fill the freshwater tank and take the water with you or hook up to a water supply when you get to a site with full or partial hookups.
In this video, we will show you how to install a water filter, where the charcoal filter is, what a pressure regulator does, where to fill the water tank and the difference between the water tank and the City Water Connection.

My friend, Mike PQ, gave this info as a great addition (from the comments section) - The extra hose before the pump is to suck RV antifreeze into your system through the pump, so your lines don't freeze in VT at -20° hahaha. The red and blue lines outside are your lowest hot and cold line points in the system, so you can crack those and wait for the water to pump through your sinks, toilets, showers, and outdoor showers. The antifreeze will flow out the lowest points. then close those valves. The hot water tank shut-off valves are to bypass the hot water tank, so you can drain it out for the winter. All water must be removed!!
Frozen pipes suck, but you wouldn’t have to know about that in So. Cal
.
P.S. Always bypass your water filter before pumping antifreeze into the system!

Hey Southern friend.... LOLOLOL Hi Mike!
Great video!!
The extra hose before the pump is to suck RV antifreeze into your system through the pump, so your lines don't freeze in VT at -20° hahaha . The red and blue lines outside are your lowest hot and cold line point in the system, so you can crack those and wait for water to pump through your sinks, toilets, showers, and out door showers. The antifreeze will flow out the lowest points. then close those valves.. The hot water tank shut off valves are to bypass the hot water tank, so you can drain it out for the winter. All water must be removed!!
Frozen pipes suck, but you wouldn’t have to know about that in So.Cal.
P.S. always bypass your water filter before pumping antifreeze into the system!
Thanks, Mike PQ! I really appreciate the comment and clarification. Yes, you are totally right... I'm from Southern California and have no clue on how to winterize my RV :-). I would have to watch a UA-cam video. LOL. Your notes were so well written, that I have put them in the show notes area. I hope you don't mind. I gave you credit. Always a pleasure having you watch our videos. I love seeing you and Kathy flying around the country and riding your motorcycle. Looks like you're living the dream! Hope to see you both again soon. Michael & Melissa
How do you bypass the water filter? Do you have to do this manually? I just removed the filter and then used the extra hose to pull antifreeze throughout. It of course filled the water filter housing first.
@@cdb1386 I have a bypass hose with the filter fittings in both ends. It just replaces the filter, so the antifreeze just flows throughout the lines.
Just a heads-up. Your "extra hose" is the pick up line to draw antifreeze directly from the bottle to winterize the water lines.
Let's turn to God Shepherd's Chapel explains the whole Bible God bless
Can we take a moment to appreciate how this man just tore apart parts of his RV just to show us where water goes? Excellently detailed video!
Lance, thanks! That actually got a laugh outta me. I appreciate that YOU appreciate that I'm making these videos to help others. Wishing you nothing but the best and safe travels!
@@TheAdventureTravelers haha, best and safe travels to you as well! 😄
I was thinking same.
Yes, to take apart your rv, is to us a Big Thank You , its a big deal take it apart, i lnow, then to twist n turn your body for the best look into the repair area, gee, with what ive learned from all you, guys, i can open up a shop n help othrrs do yhe same ,thanks again
Yes this guy is the MAN!!!!!! Thanks again bro
Recently just bought a 5th wheel. First time camper. Got it all set up. Everything running.... no hot water...... after your video, I traced the shut off values and seen the hot and cold were mixing. Shut it off and hot water... thanks so much for the help, and saving up 100's of dollars on a service call.
That is great news Joel. I am so happy to help you save money. That is totally why I make these videos. Wishing you the best with your new fifth wheel and your future travels.
I've been around RV's, Living Quarters Horse Trailers, and Motorhomes for many years, and this is the most practical and best walk through explanation I've ever seen done! Outstanding!
Thank you so much Todd. I really appreciate it. Glad I can help in some small way. Wishing you the best.
Really great job showing the plumbing. I appreciate how you simplified it all for me so thanks.
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it.
That's worth a sub! Man, thanks for taking your whole frigging RV apart so us nosy people can see how it works! It was very informative and answered some questions I had about an RV I purchased but so far have not seen yet.
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment. I really appreciate it. Best of luck to you out in the RV lifestyle. 😁
I bought this water heater ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 for use in my bus conversion. I installed it under my kitchen sink and it is fed by a high efficiency on-demand LP water heater. It is both a backup hot water source as well as a water saving device since we have hot water on demand rather than having to wait for the gas on demand water heater to finish its ignition cycle. I decided on this water heater due to the fact that it only draws 1300watts when it's ON instead of the 1500 watts that most Water heaters this size draw. In an RV a couple hundred watts can be a big deal. With very low standby losses, I don't have to worry about excessive power consumption. When propane is not available for our gas water heater, in conjunction with our low flow shower head there is enough hot water available to shower, albeit we won't be taking "hotel showers." Also very happy with the recovery rate of this water heater. Granted, it is quite small, but it does exactly what we need it to do.
Yes indeed!
This is hands down the BEST informative straight-to-the-point no BS video I have seen yet, thank you so much
It’s my pleasure. Thank you for watching and sharing your comment. Sorry for the delay, I have been hiking the John Muir Trail with my wife over the last month. Wishing you the best.
This is by far the most amazing and informative RV video I have run across! You did an absolutely great job in locating and mapping out the water system and answered a lot of questions I had been thinking of for my RV. Outstanding!
Thank you so much for the great compliment Dennis. I appreciate it. I learned a lot tearing apart my RV as well. L O L.
really good video. I've moved up from a tent to a trailer and now there is a lot to learn. my camper is a 1992 Starcraft without owner manual. lol
If you find an owner's manual for any RV, you lucked out. I don't think they make 'em. Glad the video helped! Happy travels!
Thanks Mike. I just bought my first RV and needed to know more about my water system
I am glad it helped. Thank you so much for the comment Timothy.
Thank you young man, my sink lines leaks, and by the hot water tank pump area leaks outside, alot winter time frozen pipes, i bought antifreeze and forgot to do the set up for winter. By what you have shown me, im on the roll on fixing it my self ,called rv place for repairs, just to look at it, will be 100 bucks ,to fix 100 an hour, well its that or save a buck, UA-cam and you, saved the day, thanks again. Thank you for tearing all of that apart so we could see it in real life!!!!!!!!!!!
My pleasure. Wish someone did it for me early on my RV days. It was actually fun to go through this and see my own system as I was explaining it. 😁. Thanks for the comment.
Very well done. Impressive that you took so much time to explain all this. Thank you!

Awesome video! Found my pump and converter in one of my bays so easy to change filter or anything that might go wrong.
Oh, that is great news. There are a lot of RVs or trailers that have these areas in nightmare conditions. You should have seen when I would have to do oil changes or repairs on my boat. There is hardly any room on a boat. Glad I could help.
Excellent!! Excellent information, oh my thank You so much!! I truly appreciate you and all the work you have done for us! I can't thank you enough

Excellent video! Thanks for taking the time and effort to share the knowledge. Happy travels! 👍🏼🙌🏼👊🏼
So glad you like the video. I really appreciate it. I always love helping others if I can. Have a great trip wherever you are heading.
The spare hose at 5:35 is there to winterize the unit, simply close the valve at the bottom of the hose to cut the tank out of the system and place the end of the hose into a container of rv antifreeze turn the pump on and it will charge the lines with antifreeze. This feature is on rv's with "winter packages" along with tank heaters and a insulated underbelly.
Thank you so much. I found that out right after I posted the video. Since I live in Southern California, I don’t really have a need for it. I do however, have a polar package on my RV, which is great for camping in the snow. Thanks again. I really appreciate it.
It's on almost every camper not just "winter package" which is just a scam to charge more money. The belly insulation is just a foil sheet
Needed this im doing a rebuild starting from scratch, this helps, thanks
I am so glad that it has helped you. Check out some of our other videos. We are big-time Boondockers and have found some amazing places.
Thanks I'm in the midst of building a skoolie and this was super informative
Glad it helped. That’s an impressive feat build that bus. You’ll love the end result.
Wow i am so grateful. We cannot find our fresh water inlet anywhere on our new-to-us truck camper. Not sure where the freshwater drains either. So we havent been able to use our freshwater tank yet or sanitize it. But your video confirmed that i have figured out a lot of things correctly so far, so thats encouraging at least lol😅
Wow, that is such a bummer. I’m so sorry to hear that. That would drive me nuts. I’m sure you will find both the intake and outlet. It’s there somewhere. Perhaps trace your hoses from your sink backwards. Or find an easier one to trace back. Wishing you the best.
@@TheAdventureTravelers thank you so so kindly for such an empathetic and genuine response. Truly. I will try tracing it back like you suggested. ❤️❤️
Great video! Thanks for posting. I learned a lot.
Thanks, Farrah. Glad it helped. We have seen so many people looking at their water inlets with a confused look that we wanted to help. :-).

@@TheAdventureTravelers what are the blue and red pex lines hanging on the rear of my RV for? The dealership walked us through everything but I forgot what they are there for.
@@jocarson5310 If they have valves on them, they typically are to let out (discharge)hot (red) or cold (blue) water out of your water heater or water tank. Can't really tell without pictures. Sometimes they can be a way to input antifreeze into the system when you winterize your RV. Hope that helps. Hard to tell without pics. Sorry.
really thorough explanation, thanks it made perfect sense & I know nothing abt RVs.

Hi I just Found This Video and Thank YOU , if I May the Check Valve will Be In the City Hose Inlet Flange on the outside of the RV where the City Hose Connects to. again I Enjoyed This Great Informational VIDEO from You....

Excellently detailed video!
Thank you so much, Mario, I really appreciate it.
As others have stated, well-produced video in tracing and explaining the typical plumbing system. Kudos!
One comment, though, that I have not seen on this thread: the RV industry's mixing of materials in the plumbing systems...namely PEX and vinyl tubing. This is a pet peeve of "Rigor RV Repair" (also on UA-cam) to the point where he won't consider some RV brands (such as GDRV). In short, he believes that using PEX crimps on vinyl tubing is a big no-no....a set of leaks that are inevitable. Yes, the vinyl tubing is flexible and makes great curves (as in your rig going to the outdoor shower fixture), whereas PEX is not so easy to make turns (without the use of more fittings and more time ($$) in manufacturing), but I believe him when he says that PEX crimps should NOT be used on vinyl tubing (you couldn't pass code in a sticks & bricks application, so why does the RV industry get away with it?). As such, I plan to strip out all my rig's vinyl and re-plumb with PEX tubing and PEX crimps on PEX connectors (brass). Just food for everyone's thoughts. Cheers.
That is great information. Thanks for sharing. Don’t even get me started on RV wiring. Lol. Every color under the rainbow and none of it makes sense.
Awesome job! Explains a lot
So glad you liked it. Thanks for the comment.

Glad it helped LaTonya! Thanks for watching. Have fun out there!
Nice video, looks like you have 2 leaking valves at the back of your water heater.
The corroded ones I'm talking about.
Thanks. Already replaced those. Yes, they were leaking. I didn't realize that I didn't have an Anode Rod in my water heater, so they got sacrificed and corroded. Uugh. All done now though. I will post some pics or a video of that soon. Can't post any pics on these comments, which sucks.
thank you, nicely done
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.
Awsome video, all you need now is a video of how the electrical system works. 12v and 120v.
That is a great suggestion Fernando. I will have to think about that and possibly make a video on both the 12V and the 120V. So many RVs have absolutely no specs on their electrical systems.
Did you make one yet? On 12v vs 110
Thank you still figuring mines out as it's an Pace Arrow 1983 given to me.. My water isn't on & I had to call a plumber also Propane tank filled up but I'm not sure if it's clogged etc. It was a gift that set for years and given to me
Best of luck to you. Getting an older model is like doing a puzzle.
Thank you for showing this in detail. I'm new & need to learn it all! Any recommendations for a great shower drain catch? I shed a lot! I'm currently a tub shroom & sink shroom to catch hair & debris in my sticks & bricks.

My pleasure. Hope the video helped in some way.
Excellent overview, best I've seen. My rv 2012 23ft Walkabout by Homette has some of the pluming above the underbelly and below rv's floor - not as accesable.
My leak occurs at water pump, which is under the kitchen drawers, and placed nearly to the outer edge of the trailer, making it hard to access without removing all the drawers and the vertical panel above the pump (panel is right at, touches, mid-section of pump, arg). THIS LEAK ONLY OCCURS WHEN I TURN ON THE HOT WATER HEATER !? Is It: 1) the hot water 'in' fitting on pump? 2) some other logical point on the pump? 3) should i pull everything out and check the shurflo 4008 for other possible failure points ?
Sorry to say but you are most likely going to need to take out the drawers and panel to get a better look. If your drawers are like mine, there should be two black tabs on the side of the slide mechanism. Simply press those together while pulling the drawer and your drawer should release from the slide. Typically, a pump, pumps water into the water heater, not the other way around. Typically, the hot water never goes into the pump. The pump just pressurizes the hot water in the tank and pushed hot water to the sink/shower. Maybe the water heater (when turned on) is putting backflow pressure to the pump and perhaps there is a check valve near the pump that is not working correctly. Sorry, without being there, hard to help.
Wishing you the best. Please let us know the fix. ~ Michael
Thank you for the great explanation! Definitely the most helpful videos out there. I do have one question how does the outside water inlet connect to the tank fill port? Is there a fitting in the outside inlet or just the hose?
Sorry for the delayed response. My wife and I are training to hike the John, Muir, Trail, and we have been out of cell phone connection. To answer your question, if I understand it correctly, to fill your tank, there is just a cap and an inlet that you put your hose into and you fill up the tank that way. There is no connection per se. your tank is filled by gravity. The water just goes down the hose into the tank.
Great video..very informative! Can I remove under bed "city water tank" and use only water supplied by hose? (For non traveling trailer) Since water is supplied with some pressure would I need water pump? How would you get to this issue? Winterizing would be a snap! Thank you!
In theory, yes, you can remove the water tank, if you never plan on using it and only want to have city water fed directly into your rig.
The water pump only pumps water from the tank. You will not need the pump if you are directly connected to city water pressure. Hope that helps.
This video is so helpful! I'm about to add a water system to my '71 scotty camper and this is exactly what I was looking for. The only question I have is, is it possible to plumb it so that the city water can be used to fill the tank inside the camper? Or is there a good reason why these are separate connections/points?
Hey Klayton, i’m so glad you like the video. Yes it is possible to plumb the water to fill the tank inside the camper but what happens if you forget to turn off the water at once the tank is full? It will just spill out the overflow valve. Typically, you just fill the water tank and once that’s done, you can connect to the city water and just use the city water pressure to have plumbing inside your RV just like at home. Just ensure that you turn off the water pump, or else you will be pumping water from your water tank instead. I hope that helps. Try not to think too far out of the box, RV water systems have been around a long time and most people have thought of everything. The way the RV is typically set up is usually the best for that type of RV.
Very helpful video. I'll want to watch it again. Do you have a "hair catcher" drain recommendation for shower? A little overwhelming. A lot to potentially go wrong in these things isnt there? I love to fix things myself if I can but I guess I'm not that mechanically inclined to figure them all out. And if not done correctly can potentially be very costly. I now see you gave a recommendation for the hair catcher to another commenter.
This is what we use for the drain: amzn.to/3yk7eU2
Very Good
Thanks so much Jeff. I’m glad you liked it. Appreciate the comments.
Your "Extra" water line next to your water pump is there to add antifreeze to the water system for winter storage.
Hey, thanks for that. Somebody told me that right after I posted the video. Now I know. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the detailed video. So I’m assuming as hot water is used from the hot water heater the water pump keeps adding water from the fresh water tank to it when it’s running?
Yes, let’s say you have a 5 gallon water heater, you can get about 8 gallons out of it during a long shower because it is constantly being replenished with water from either your tank or city water. I typically only turn on my water heater about 20 minutes before I need it. So it’s not consuming a lot of energy all day.
Thank you ,now i know more of my rv trailer ,my problem is or maybe was, i was filling the potable tank with city water, and a rush of water is coming out from a tube underneath the rv near the other exit lines, i know i filled it up correctly ,but there must be a faucet turned the wrong way for the water not to fill up all the way, ideas?
Yes, it sounds like you may have an open valve. Typically you may see some hoses coming out of the bottom of your RV. Chase those hoses back up into the RV and look for an open valve. Those are usually to empty the tank. Other than that, I would just go through kind of like I did one hose at a time and ensure that all the valves are in the right position. Remember that the valve knob should be in line with your hose for it to be open and if it’s at a 90° angle that typically means it’s closed. Best of luck to you Miguel.
Thank you sir
It’s my pleasure. Thank you for watching and sharing your comment. Sorry for the delay, I have been hiking the John Muir Trail with my wife over the last month. Wishing you the best.
Great vids. When your RV is hooked up to city water how do,you prevent water coming from the city from over filling your RV water storage tank when all your faucet are off?
If my check valves are working correctly, the water should never be going into my tank. It is a straight path that bypasses my tank altogether. The only way I can fill my tank is from the outside (a totally different input).
@@TheAdventureTravelers but at one point the output from your storage. tank merges with the output from city h2o then heads to the shower/faucets at that point where they merge , when pressure builds up from city h2o does it back flow to your storage tank or does it have a one way valve? Thanks
Thanks you
No problem. Glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
I already fived the kitchen faucet. But now i need to fix the bathrooms faucets
I’m so glad you got your kitchen faucet fixed. Wishing you the
I have a truck camper. My sink in the bathroom has very low water pressure and sometimes I get No water at all . How can I find and fix this issue?
Thanks great video
Sounds too easy, but first check the screen on your tap. It may be clogged. Clean with vinegar and water to get rid of the scale. Let me know if that works.
Where would be the best place to put an extra filter ? I don't have a water system like yours, because I have a older 5th wheel. I'm asking / wondering because the water here has chlorine/hard water with lime scale issues and a funny smell... I need to put in a filter for my kitchen and for my shower... I'm wondering where to put a small one at and how to do it. My under sink is exactly like yours but I cannot get to my shower lines. So I was thinking of adding a filter where my bathroom sink is because of the lines connecting, what do you think? I live in VA and the weather here last night was 7 degrees...
Of course, it is hard to give you an exact way to do this because I don’t know your rig. Since it is freezing there, you should put your filter on the interior. I have seen many people put a filter outside, just before it connects to the RV, but since it’s freezing there, you need to put it interior. Is there a way you can trace the water hose from the connection on the interior? It may be behind a cabinet or something. That would be my best advice but it’s hard to know. So sorry. Please let me know what you come up with. 😁
Ya I have a problem with my water system on my 2003 Winnebago journey fresh water system when it on the potted water no water coming out on city water it’s perfect have any suggestions on what could be the problem I would appreciate your help sir god bless
Hey Bob. Without actually looking at it, it’s really hard to tell. Have you checked all of your check valves? Typically, that is the first point of failure. If you are connecting to city water, well, a check valve might be broken or damaged and that right exactly could mess things up. There might be other videos out there on check valves. if you are using city water, and have pressure to your system, make sure that you turn off your water pump. Hope that helps some.
is there anything on the city water connection that could turn it off? Like a valve? My pump works fine. I can fill the tank up and use it but, when I was connected to city and turned off the pump water would not come out. The water was on and I connected it with a pressure regulator and without and nothing.
That is kind of unusual. I haven’t heard of that before. I would check to see if your check valve is working on your city water connection end. It would either be that or one of your valves is turned off. It sounds like you had it all right. When you connect to your city water connection, you should turn off your water pump and everything should work fine with the pressure coming from city water.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Thank you
Glad it helped. Thanks for the comment. 😁
I am living in my morterhome where is the best place to run my water hose to the water tank or is there another hose hook up spot ?
Typically, there is another port for your hose that says city water. If you turn your hose on and have it connected to that port, you should have running water and you won’t have to use the pump. Depending on where you are in the country you may want to get a heated hose, so your water doesn’t freeze inside your hose or at the Spigot.
Nice video. Has your clear filter canister ever come unscrewed? For some reason ours has during the middle of the night spilling water all over. Luckily we were in the rig when it happened.
Gary, our charcoal filter canister has never come loose. We have a little plastic wrench that comes with it (fits around it like a glove) and we tighten it with that. Ensure your O-Ring is seated with no kinks. Glad you were in the rig when it leaked. Thanks for watching our video!
@@TheAdventureTravelers thanks. Yes I have one too.
Great video but you failed to mention what prevents the city water from filling up the holding tank. Unless I missed it? In my experience it’s been the only part of my rv’s (3 different makes models etc) water system that failed me.
That’s the check valve on the water pump. My 1997 Winnebago wonderer 35 motohome ever saw 5lbs over 40psi it would overwhelm the valve on the pump and fill up my freshwater tank until it was like a balloon under my floor😅. 40psi is the magic #.
Thank you so much for the information. Yes, I always use a 40 pound water pressure attachment on my hose. We just got back from a 21 day trip traveling in the Pacific Northwest. Good times.
My RV is a 2000 33 ft Jayco
I hookup to city water and it fills my. Water tank then when tank is full water comes out the air vent ìs ther a back flow valve somewhere and it does have a water pump
It sounds like you have a faulty check valve somewhere. Without looking at it, it’s kind of hard for me to diagnose. Does the sink give you water pressure when you are hooked up to city water without using the pump?
I have a question, can you fill your fresh water tank with your city connection line to use the electric water heater? I hope I worded this question correctly because I honestly just want to use my electric water heater with out filling up the fresh water tank manually. It’s there a valve I have to switch? I’m just confused.
No worries. It is all confusing when you first start. OK, let me try to tell you how to use your electric water heater. Since the water heater is downline of both the tank and the city water connection, you can use either. Just make sure that if you are using water from the tank, that there is water in it if you were trying to use the electric water heater. Typically, if you have a hose turned on and connected to the city water inlet, you should have direct plumbing to your entire RV. That means that it would go directly to your water heater. Also, in my RV, if I turn on the water pump, it will pull water directly from my tank even if I am hooked up to city water. Does that make sense?
@1:26 - does that filter need to be changed, and if so, is there enough room to remove the cover and filter?
Yes, I change my charcoal filter about every six months. Sometimes it gets clogged or it’s just more sanitary to ensure I change it every six months. yes, there is enough room to undo the filter housing. It looks big, but all you need to do is unscrew it from the top and it just drops out. When you replace it. You just put a new filter in there and clean it and it is super easy to reinstall.
I hope some reads this soon . Ha
@9:24 it shows 3 valves but my water tank has 2 only .. will that become an issue?
Basically the bottom line and the valve in the middle are only ones I can see .
Without seeing your water tank, I can't really give you a, "for sure" answer, but I think you're good with only two valves. Just think about the flow of water (hot or cold) and what the valves accomplish by turning them on/off. I think you should be good. Hope that helps. If everything is working well now, even better 🙂
I have a 2019 Coleman camper, Lantern Edition.245RK my commode fills up but won't empty.Fuse to water pump is good. What do I do.Pump don't come on.
Not sure if I understand correctly. Is the commode filling up with water or human waste? Is it’s filling up with water, and you’re not actively filling it up, then you have a leak somewhere. Is your camper hooked up to city water (water hose connected to a spigot)? If so, your pump will not come on.
The extra hose is your winterising line put that in antifreeze turn valve on it sucks antifreeze through your system
Thanks, yes, I got that. Right after I made the video one of my friends told me about that. I live in San Diego so we don’t winterize our vehicles here. I had a good laugh. Thanks for the information. Safe travels.
I canr find the faucet but i think is behind the city water and cable connecter
By now, I think you got this. Let me know if everything worked out well.
Awesome video. explained a lot. One question. I am a newbe, What the difference with filling the water tanks with city water from the driver side or the potable gravity fill water on the passenger side. Does the potable water come from the same source? i.e city water? Again, thank you!
There would only be a tank on the portable gravity fill area on your passenger side. If you choose to use the city water attachment on the driver side of your rig, that will not go into a tank but will go directly to your plumbing, meaning your shower, faucets and toilet. Does that make sense? thanks for watching.
@@TheAdventureTravelers Thank you!
The cold water coming into the water heater has a check valve at the bottom of the tank that looks like it is keeping cold water from coming in. Is that correct?
There is a valve on the water heater side but it is not a check valve. A check valve basically is open all the time and when water backflows it will stop the water from going backwards. I believe the valve you are referencing can just turn the flow of water on or off.
After the hot water comes out of the hot water tank there is a connection between the hot and cold with a valve in between. The valve appears to be closed. What is it for?
I see what you're talking about. It's at 9:23 in the video. I'm assuming it's a bypass valve (I actually don't know why they put that in there). It is closed because if it was open, the hot and cold water would mix at that point and it would defeat the purpose of each system. Any plumbers out there have an answer? I'm stumped too! Thanks for bringing this up Greg. I'm sure there is an easy answer. :-)
My question is what does the INSIDE of the fresh water tank look like. Is there a hose inside that pulls the water out of the tank or is it just gravity drained out the bottom. I ask because once our fresh water tank gets about 1/3 full and lower, the pump will ramp up as usual, then go down to a slow idle and continues until you run more water. This only happens when the water is low. Any suggestions what is wrong? We have tried 2 new pumps and a 3rd that was a different brand,. Not the issue.
Typically you have a hose at the bottom of your freshwater tank that is connected to your water pump. It depends if you are on a hill or not how the water will get to the hose, thus get to the water pump. The only gravity fed hose is the one where you fill the tank from. Everything else is run by the pump. If your pump is continuously running. It is most likely that the tank is empty or a check valve is not working correctly. It’s my pleasure. Thank you for watching and sharing your comment. Sorry for the delay, I have been hiking the John Muir Trail with my wife over the last month. Wishing you the best.
The problem with our water is when the freshwater tank gets below say 1/2, when we use water, the pump will continue to run at low idle and does not stop until we turn the faucet on again. Then it ramps up to full idle, and then stops, but this seems like a real waste of water, while we are not connected to city water. We have changed the water pump three times so we figure it’s not that.
I recently acquired an RV the guy done a full redo of the waterlines took out the pumps if I plan on just running off city water the entire time do I need to reinstall the pumps
If you are hooked up to city water, you should never need the pumps. If that is your case, that would be much less maintenance for you. 🤙🏼
@@TheAdventureTravelers thank u
I am trying to add an an RV pump to my truck so I can pick up water out of a stream and wash the truck and dog. How does the RV pump know when to start pumping water?
Basically you just flip a switch and then the pump should start running. You need to ensure that you have enough of a pump to pump from another source, such as a stream or lake. The longer the hose, the bigger the pump you will need. You lose a lot of pressure depending upon how long your hose is.
Hi
Can you please send me the link for supplier of the filter and the equipment
Thanks
There should be a plastic handle nearby. If not, you can purchase one here. amzn.to/49AX8Sp and I buy these filters. amzn.to/3R5WBRc
Thanks, nice video. That blue line under the shower pan is not a drain. I think the drain is likely 1-1/2” pvc that goes into a gray water tank. That blue line is a water line that probably feeds something in your bathroom. That small line would not work as a drain for the shower, it would get clogged too easily.
A lot of things on an RV don’t make sense. Manufacturers cut corners everywhere to save a buck. The drain is the Only thing I can see that connects to that. We have a great drain screen that keeps most junk from clogging that dinky hose.
Hey! Loved the video! Are you available by zoom to walk me through my own system? What’s the charge for that? Haha
If you have an iPhone, I can Facetime you to help. I may not know your system in-depth, but I can offer some sort of assistance (for free). No worries. Don't post your phone number here, DM me if you can.
@@TheAdventureTravelers ok! I messaged you on IG, I’ll send my number there and look on here too- THANK YOU!!
@@abigailhoover7653 I didn’t see the message in IG. I’ll check it out on my computer. Maybe I’m missing it somehow.
does that hot water heater also heat cold water
That’s hilarious. I’ve never heard that one before. Yes, it does heat both hot water and cold water. L O L when you’re making a video, I just go with the first take. Whatever.
I have a permanent stationed rv that has been sourced with an underground electric and a fresh waterline to my rv ( they were placed 24" underground.) So, I don't use my pump. Problem is fresh water runs up to the pressure regulator, but no water running in the rv? We have had an unusual freeze for the last few weeks (10, 12, 16, etc degrees and day temps of 30-42) could this effect water flow in the rv....sorry for the long verbage
Yes, a freeze will definitely affect your water and water pressure. Hopefully your pipes are not frozen. Typically people leave a faucet dripping to keep water flowing throughout or they use heaters to keep the pipes warm. I am sorry, but I am not a cold weather enthusiast. I live in Southern California, so I don’t know much about that. So sorry.
How do you change that filter? Help
