Key Takeaway: most people that get to heads-up in a tournament are thinking "don't screw up" so you should take advantage of this mindset. Most players are not that good so get the fear out of your eyes!
On the QT hand, I said about 80% of pot. Most of my 3-bets will include AK, KQ suited, AA, KK, JJ - so the value that I have on this board is pretty strong. I feel like my value range is already kinda narrow so I want to be betting a little on the polarized side, but maybe not full pot or more because what would I be trying to get value from? Most of my value combos are blocking hands that would call for value - so most of the time I'm trying to charge flush draws. I felt like 80% pot was selling the story of "I have KQ or better and I'm trying to get money from a lesser made hand or flush draw". What do you think?
At 17 minutes I could be wrong but considering you can fold 1/3 of your range here I don’t understand the point in check raising, because if he calls you are either way behind even his drawing hands... and check raising q 4 would put a lot of bluffs in your range
The stack and bet sizes are 5 pixels on my full screen monitor . I can honestly say I have no idea what I would do because literally unclear what the situation is. I couldnt imagine watching it on a phone. Use iMove, or something, put some numbers up there. Use your space.
I think of the hands i learned most from the QJ nad why i should check back there. This whole week has been a huge sales pitch for why you should buy flopzilla lol. Using pokerstove right now and it feels about the same value (or a little less value) than a free trial of flopzilla, if anyone has any comments about this, reply please. I'm doing work with ranges throughout the hand about once a day (i don't play every day and every day i do, i usually get 2-3 interesting hands to go through). That feeling when i work with my opps' ranges and finally get about the right result (whether my actions were correct or not) is so rewarding. During the hand though i notice i think on either too many value hands or too many bluffs in opps' range. Can't think of it all, just goes to show i need to work with the software way more in order to start putting the picture together more accurately.
Rule #1 to massive success = Invest in yourself. There aren't many places you'll get a better return than $35 for flopzilla. Think about it, how much money are you playing with? And how much more could it be with more knoweldge. Equilab from poker strategy is a good upgrade from pokerstove and it's also free. But I will say it because it's worked for me, once I started investing money in myself, and in the things I knew could help me learn faster, really good things started to happen. Mindset shit but worth it!
So... In the final example hand. I'm not sure I agree. I mean I can't argue with numbers, but if you're gunna teach scrubs like me to make this play, it would be helpful to run it out further. For instance, I would think a reraise is a clear fold, but what if he flats? That would put you in a tough spot, out of position. So what do you do on the turn? There's now almost 20% of the total chips in the pot, and assuming you don't commit anymore chips to it, you're at about a 45-55% (of chips) disadvantage. Not a wide margin, but what if: 1. The turn is a blank, checked to River and it's a heart? 2. You hit the queen of diamonds or spades on turn or river. 3. The turn is the 5of hearts
Thank you so much! Great video I'm actually learning good stuff and very great full to you... However that last draw with the clever pre turn over bet (ah hah yes), dosent it merely determine the value of his cards which is what we do want yes, but what if he does have nuts? then really youve just increased your losses 3x as fast cause if he calls you know he has better hand / good cards so with that logic isn't it fair to say youve just paid him off to see what he has and at the same time lost the hand. Is there some ''greater good"" to be learned here that i missed? besides the not so entirely obvious value bet... (i know my question probably quite naive and amateur but..im here to learn and I'd rather look foolish here rather than lose my real life money). My sincere thanks , Christian H. C. Of Vancouver BC. Blessings
unfortunately, for a number of reasons, number one being “the Rake” I find the game in its entirety has become the exact opposite as its original intended format. It is no longer just a player verses opponent game. That was the beauty of poker that inspired me to play the game. But I’m afraid it’s too far gone with its stats and strategies are no match for the governing operatives fraught with fraud, deception, theft, and profiteering. Which is btw illegal and 99% of people aren’t even aware of that fact. I respectfully denounce the game of poker both online and casino. If I do plan on continuing my playing it will only be in privately, in settings with only integral tables and players that are for all intensive purposes entirely unknown to 99.999% of the poker playing population. It is only then will I participate. My poker skills and strategies are only useful in completely fair and on tables that aren’t soaked in grease. Thank very. Much Gr8ful i am
Good stuff as usual. I don't love betting 77 on the QT6 flop but since almost every single turn is bad for me, I can get behind it. Personally, I c-bet small with almost all my range and look for how villain responds. I can shut it down on the turn in some spots and increase pressure in others - all depending on the villain. I really don't like raising Q4o HU but I'll give it some thought. HU I'm still far more range v range than maybe I should be vs this population?
Maybe it’s because I haven’t purchased Alex’s stuff, but based on his free YT work isn’t a half pot bet on a K83 board not that great? I thought we are looking to make it 3/4 pot on boards with at least 2 cards 8 and below?
There are way too many factors to generalize it that much. Kxx is pretty dry with no draws, you can bet smaller. More draws on more encourages higher bets. Rank of top card matters too... there's just so much :) which is why he made the premium courses :)
You are actually teaching me, Thank you so fucking much. I can't find any other exploitative players on youtube and this channel has been very useful. I plan on buying alex's book in the next few days because of this
It is always good to learn another way to play your hands. Poker is a progressive science so you are always learning and there's never just 1 correct way to do something. 2 quick questions on the 1st example why would you not lean towards a higher bet amount to try to fold out/charge flush draws? I dont recall the possible flush draw being mentioned. Also in the last example I have noticed at the lower levels people rarely know how to fold top top, even top pair period. So an over bet there would cause them to just go all in, in alot of cases, bc they don't know what else to do. I've got ran down with flopped sets and top 2 on enough occasions bc the villain played the hand horribly and got a statistically anomalistic runner runner. This ended up being either a boat over boat situation or a counterfeit on the river. So just saying all that to say that it is important to decipher what level of play and what level of player you are playing against to make moves/plays that match that skill level otherwise you may also be burning $$$. But as I recall Alex has reiterated which game level the quiz questions relate to but as you are learning it is important to keep this in mind.
Take your foot off the gas for a bit, stick to value hands, and when your image is moving towards the squeaky clean again, go back to your old bluffing ways. Bluffing is simply an investment in our image so we can get paid on our real hands, this is why getting caught bluffing isn't a bad thing at all!
I’m starting to get confused now I feel like these videos are contradicting each other. Last video we shouldn’t be bluffing turn and river. Now we are bluffing turn. There is KJ on the board QT in our hand and you say to bet because unlike last example where they likely have pairs this guy likely has mostly high cards. What high cards does he have that don’t connect with this board in some way? AQ which we block? AT which we block? Kx which gives him top pair? Jx which now gives him second pair?
@@gripsed Hendon Mob database shows all activity just stopped around 2009 or so. Khan must have quit poker a decade ago. His behaviour at the table was terrible you gotta admit...
How often on average can you use these tactics in a tournament? every 10 orbits? 15 orbits? Obviously if you're doing this every opportunity you're either going to run into a big hand and/or someone is going to rebluff shove over you if they feel you're trying to play them exploitatively.
Many opponents will not adjust even if they see you do something a lot. And when they do, the answer is you do it until your image is clean again. Until they actually catch you bluffing they will often think you're just running good and that you have it. No need to give them too much credit :)

Always depends on your opponent, but going range vs range strategy is never going to be a bad starting place.
