  • @jesselioce
    @jesselioce 10 років тому +1

    I thought you should not actively shrug. That it's a reaction to the pull. It's all in the hips or am i wrong in this?

    • @alrightalrightalright6165
      @alrightalrightalright6165 10 років тому

      Depends on who you are talking to. I find the shrug helps, but it is not essential.

    • @jesselioce
      @jesselioce 10 років тому

      From what i've learned it's all in the hips. The shrugging shoulders is just a result of the bars momentum. I'm not saying you shouldn't shrug i'm saying you shouldn't actively pull by shrugging. I did hear however they teach it differently in america compared to here in europe.

    • @alrightalrightalright6165
      @alrightalrightalright6165 10 років тому +3

      Well yeah, all of the power does come from the hips. I'm just saying trying to get a little extra juice outta the shrug doesn't hurt.

    • @kopparsomfan
      @kopparsomfan 10 років тому +3

      The coaches that teaches you to not shrug and claims that it comes "naturally from the pull" are wrong. Or they are just teaching a simplier version och the lift.
      You usually leave out the shrug, since the lift itself is already so complex. However, if you are going to use heavier weights, or you want to be a better olympic lifter: the shrug is a must.
      The thing is: in the last 5 years, fitness is THE SHIET. Olympic lifts are cool, and everybody wants to do them now. The inexperienced lifter in the gym wont notice if you shrug or not.
      But this is for all of you: SHRUG. If you do the hang clean/power clean etc right you will be able to use more weight = more strength = more eplosive = faster in your sport. Which is usually why people are doing the hang or power clean. They wanna be more explosive and faster in their sport (basketball, football, soccer etc).

    • @jesselioce
      @jesselioce 10 років тому

      from what i've learned they teach a different technique in the us, the jump + shrug method, compared to here in europe where we use the catapult technique which is without actively shrugging, it's all in the hips. jump shrug method is easy to learn but at a certain level you need catapult.

      I was doing these last night, including finding my one rep max lift. If you drop it on your sternum you're really doing something wrong. Learn the technique with just the bar (or even a piece of PVC pipe if you have too) before adding weight for reps. I'm only about 10 weeks into crossfit and have yet to come close to hurting myself. Know your limits and work within them.

    whole point of the squat movement is so the bar doesn't have to go as high off the second (or in this case, only) pull. Hate seeing what basically looks like a hang power clean followed by a front squat. If you can't demonstrate good mechanics on a light weight, show a real work set

    I think my form is decent for Hang Cleans. The problem I experience is pain in the hand when lowering the bar for the next rep. It's pretty much just dropping the bar and catching it and that rotation tears up my palms and sometimes hurts bones in my fingers. That's the reason I sometimes do one less rep. Tomorrow I'm going to try using lifting gloves mainly for Hang Clean and see if they help.

      +PureZOOKS 1 rep is hip to hip. He was just picking it up off the floor to get started. Sometimes you will see people hang clean from a rack so they don't have to pic it up. Technically 1 rep is hip to the catch on the shoulders. For jumping and explosiveness hang cleans are often done with a stomp jump. Hard to explain but sure there are vids on here showing that.

      @@PilotW65 It's not that they're doing the lifting, it's more that they're just bending in general, my wrists catching that weight in the bend while they land on my shoulders is extremely painful

    • @PilotW65
      @PilotW65 Рік тому +1

      @@feels5460 it takes a lot of practice, but just like any weight lifting movement, you'll get to a point where it "feels right" - it takes a lot of experimentation, and as more of a strength guy than an Olympic lifting guy, cleans have been one of the hardest movements for me to get the hang of. But unless my tenonitis is very flared up from work (I have it in my right wrist and elbow, my dominant arm), I almost don't feel it in my wrists now.
      My advice; do the movement with a bit of weight on it - enough that you have to assume proper form to lift it but not enough where it'll really hurt if your form gives out. I find it's too easy to break form when you lift too light, as your body isn't being forced into adapting to form.
      Secondly, front squats - try doing those with a clean grip first. They are a lot less explosive and don't require such heavy technique training. Slowly your body will get used to "shelving" the weight on the shoulders.
      Sorry, one more thing I might add; don't go for super high rep counts of these, only do like 3-5 per set. Hope my input helps.
