Him saying “I don’t use human logic” might be the most helpful thing I’ve heard from all of your podcasts. Sometimes things can look so good you think, there’s gotta be deer here. But like he said If there’s no sign then I ain’t huntin it. There’s a reason the deer aren’t there and you shouldn’t care why. I love that.
Part 1 was great because it was an excellent overview on a lifetime of wisdom on how to live life that just happened to be using hunting as the example. Part 2 gets into more hunting details. My two favorite episodes I’ve heard so far.
I really appreciate you guys honoring a true whitetail hunter…us old guys who grew up with learning from Rotharr, the Wenzel brothers, and Bobby here. Give credit where credit is dew…our skills and woodsman-ship far surpass the food-plot craze…you either know how to read deer sign or you don’t. Bobby is the real deal…👍🎯
Guys….this podcast is going to change my game and change the outlook of my hunting career. Bobby is an example of what it means to be a master among deer assassins.
Clearly a wealth of knowledge, a great episode. But I gotta give big props to Jacob. I felt like sometimes he would get off topic or ramble and Jacob did a great job of summarizing what pertained to his question.
The video in the field with him made me buy his book. They way he had both yall walk the trails from the pinch point until the area where they were closest was something I never considered. I figure if I can learn that in a 20 min video, I will learn alot more from the book.
I’m glad I’m not the only person that has not had much success with low gaps. I use them to narrow down trails and movement but never right in the low gap.
Love this guy! Great channel. I never deer hunted I am 58. I have lots of gun experience but I need to figure out a good place to go put up cameras this spring. I don’t have any private places to go. I live in Dalton, GA.
Man you can learn so much from this show. And it shows me why I see so many more deer in one area of a property compared to another 1 question when he's talking about dates when bucks leave home range to long distance searching what regions is that for and how much does that vary from regional to region? I'm in the north east and that sounds pretty accurate from what I've seen, I would maybe even move those dates up a week or 2
im from west virginia got into bowhunting when i was 14 ive never got a buck with a bow but ive gotten 6 doe had some dandy's on camera my question is what if your hunting a holler with a natural spring from top to bottom an a logging road from top to bottom they got trails coming to the logging road in one spot its like a sweet spot but i would like to know how to hunt it im glad i came across your podcast im glad to hear from someone like bobby
Do you think after passing certain deer they know the next encounter with you won't make them uncomfortable. Had a Mamma and a baby come in I passed on opening day of bow season. Possibly passed the same 2 several weeks after. 2 hunters jumped them and they came strait to my stand and stopped. Mamma looked at me and did a slight hop to take off running but stopped. Turned and walked 5 feet from my stand and walked slowly up a hill like everything was normal. What's the possibility that Mamma knew I wouldn't bother her? The way she acted in the whole way just felt like she's seen me and smelled me before.
That's something Michael Perry has discussed on the podcasts quite a bit in the past and works well for him. Definitely worth doing in the right funnels.
Bobby how do you adjust when hunting around baiting? Or, do you not hunt those states? Our state went to baiting years ago and the deer act totally different now.
Would love for him to walk me through a spot of a big buck Im after. I saw him December 4, but didn’t have a good shot. After that, didn’t see him again, but got him on camera three or four times: one being daylight at 9:15am where he put the most rubs.
He mentioned that he has a product for when the deer get downwind of him yet he never mentioned it. I’d like to buy stock in that before you reveal it to all southern hunters. Shelves will be emptier than the great pure turpentine gum spirits famine from the Rick Cope days!
I'm telling ya I've used a great spray for years now that will help extremely when hunting sketchy winds. You'll probably laugh at me for it but deer dander from Fitzgerald's really works as a cover scent. I've used it for 25 years now and it seems to almost relax deer if the winds swirling and they get on the wrong side of your set. Another thing I've used is sweet anise seed. When hanging sets early in the year I'll broadcast the seed around the immediate area and hit it randomly through our the season. Then when I hunt a set that I've put the seed around I'll use a little diluted oil as a cover scent it works as well. I know these seem a little far fetched but it works pretty well in certain spots where the wind seems to swirl a lot or you have bad thermals
He's referring to a old company called elimitrax it leaves zero ground scent ,he's praised them for years they don't make them anymore but there the real deal for ground scent I've got 2 pairs they absolutely work i use it for checking cams all summer deer will not catch your trail scent. But can still smell u down wind no doubt.
Guys! You shouldn't use the term "Masterclass." The term has been so abused it's now synonymous with infomercial. Usually, when I see the word masterclass on something, Iscroll right on by. If I hadn't noticed the name Southern Outdoorsman, I would have just kept scrolling. I just happened to see the name as I scrolled it off the screen, so I came back.
@StealthTRD I'm not questioning anyone. It's just the term. I've seen it sooooooo many times I just scroll right past it. These titles are to catch attention. That word makes me go the other way.
I was born and raised in Pikeville, TN myself. Bobby is a real legend and I appreciate you guys taking the time to get his knowledge on video!
I could listen to this wise man for days
100% agree. I have listened to every podcast episode he’s appeared on as a guest and have them saved to a playlist on Spotify.
I’d rather shit in my hand and rub it in my hair as listen to this dumbass.

To learn a piece of what has taken a lifetime to accumulate is such a blessing. Great stuff!
Mr. Bobby reminds me of my Dad and Uncle’s. Same stories. You don’t find um like that anymore! Great listen!🦌
So much knowledge from a seasoned veteran.
Not sure him and Dan Infalt would see eye to eye. But each of these two guys have'em on the wall.
But at the end of the discussion, they'd probably agree
This is some of the best information out there!! I hope you guys do more of these with Bobby.@

He's talking about a traditional November rut like where he is at in TN.
I run 20 game cameras, and can prove 99% of what he is saying is correct! Great man! Times dates and funnels!

I think leaving cameras year around on funnels and then making a calendar of what you get is a pretty good strategy to use year after year
That's something Michael Perry has discussed on the podcasts quite a bit in the past and works well for him. Definitely worth doing in the right funnels.
@@thesouthernoutdoorsmen it helps when they are still there when you go back to get them lol
This is the tactic I’ve been using for the past year now and it’s really helped pattern certain deer I want to hunt.

Mainly depicting funnels.

I see a flux of secondary hard rutting on Tennessee last week of season
Does Bobby still do his 2 day class/workshop?
@@Ken_Hardee yes! The email address to sign up is in the video description
Am i correct understanding that the majority is his focus is getting the highest probability of an encounter during the rut with cruising bucks?
Yes Sir
I didn’t see link to learn more about his work class can you provide that link please?
It’s in the video description on this video. But here it is.
To sign up for Bobby's in-person scouting class, contact Joe Miles - joe@asiogear.com
When does Bobby have his classes?
In early spring
What did Bobby do for Work before he retired
Are we talking about rut funnels specifically or are we talking about travel routes close to buck bedding?
Rut funnels. We hope you get a chance to watch it!
What did he mean when he said his “tread on his stabilizer started going back” (talking about thermals) at 33:47?
He has a thread of string tied to this stabilizer on his bow to see subtle wind changes. He’s talked about this before on past episodes with us.

Rick Clunn of hunting
Love that!
What string is he putting on his stabilizer for thermals ???
String fiber will only give you immediate close thermal current. Cotten fiber is a lot better.
