Do not like the Mirror Image bit but many clearly do so my view on the view is ONLY do mirror image when you’re facing the camera. When you are in side profile or back to the camera, do the steps correctly. I was only able to keep up with things based on having learned the early movements so it was beginning to make intuitive sense - thanks to your good teaching! - what to do independent of being thoroughly confused on the mirror or not-mirror bit.
Knee pain for me has improved with Thi Chi, Tai Chi has made my legs stronger. I go up stairs with ease and no pain, Before practicing daily, I had a lot of knee pain,,, I am really feeling and enormous improvement in my Tai Chi practice with these 100 days of Tai Chi you are so graciously sharing with us all , thank you DDR ,, I am making a commitment to follow along everyday , and then to practice at least 15- 20 minutes or more, after each lesson.
Starting Tai Chi at 63, I did have knee pain but I’ve noticed that after a year and a half, my knee hasn’t bothered me in quite awhile. Hmmm. I think it’s helping and I’m still enjoying learning more.
I am glad that you addressed the knee issue.. I was doing exactly that keeping one foot in place and putting pressure on my knee, so now I let my foot pull around to adjust itself..and straining gone.. and yes..I have arthritis in my knee..
I try to mirror what my instructor does but she goes a little fast ( enthusiasm) but you are a lot easier to follow. I’m glad I found your videos. I think I’m beginning to learn some of the names of the movements. I’ll keep trying.
Mirror image: for the initial demo, please do it with the correct feet/arms. For the instructional part, mirror image is great when you are facing us. For the butt view, it’s better to have the correct feet/arms. For ultimate clarity, can you label the mirror view frames “mirror view”? Great stuff! I love your approach to teaching us old timers!
Thank you for this series! I'm following this series and it's wonderful. Now that I'm developing an understanding of the types of steps and how to transition, my 'footwork' (though the movement really happens from my core) has totally changed when I follow your other programs and when I practice on my own. I have pretty bad knees, so I tried the 'baby steps' for some transitions that were challenging me and it made a huge difference.
Thank you for this amazing series. When I am writing this, I've just realised that what I am going to say will not be useful. It's an old video, and the series is already completed. But I decided to write it any way. This mirror movement thing is really really confusing. You said in the video to let you know if it happens. Again, I know that it's too late. But beside the mirror thing, your videos are really amazing. Thank you 😄❤🙏
First of all, thank you so much for your kind words- I'm so glad you're getting the "good qi" from these videos. And I do appreciate your feedback on the mirror imaging. It's been so interesting over the years to notice how different people are when it comes to helpful video perspective. Some people breathe a sigh of relief when I use mirror imaging - others don't find it helpful at all! I started making videos that ranged across lots of different camera angles so that we could help as many people as possible enjoy them.
@@DavidDorianRoss Totally understandable. Thank you so much for your work and also for your answer 🙂. ( ps: after my comment, I've read the other comments. And I found that the mirror imaging was helpful for some of viewers)
I had trouble keeping track of what came next in the sequence so I made a chart of the steps. I can look at that and get through the whole sequence correctly by looking at the chart to make sure I'm on the right step. It made it a lot easier. Before I was always in the wrong position because I skipped a step or was on the wrong step.
Regarding arthritis: after two months of doing Tai Chi I find that my arthritic left hip is improving- less discomfort and greater range of motion. I had given up on thinking it would improve. So, delighted.
When you did the mirror image facing the camera, it was easy to follow. It was a little confusing when watching from a side view. BTW I had been having some pain in my right shoulder, but while practicing, my shoulder popped, and the pain went away.
Thank you David . I know 3 years have passed since the production of this video but that " mirror image" made me confused. In Pipa the left hand is above. Right?
About knees; I was watching another UA-cam clip and they said that you shouldn't extend your knee beyond the front of your foot. Which made me look at T'ai Chi movements but also how I move day to day and I quickly realised that it is not possible to descend a flight of stairs without doing just that!
This is a "just curious" question...out of all the moves in the long version sequence is there a more dominant foot...for example do more positions start with the right foot/leg forward. Thanks...
I don't know if this is practical and may unnecessarily complicate the process but..... installing a mirror and positioning the camera to show both you and your mirror image might make it easier to see what's going on. That way you could do the movements the way they are meant to be and not 'confuse' our visual memory by an opposite image. People could choose which image they wish to follow- you or the mirror.
David, it was somrimes confusing as to when you were mirror imaging and what the movements look like in non reflected form. Maybe more verbal cues and demoing in non mirrored form. I really like how you are always generating new content to disseminate. Two thumbs up!
I realize that these videos are from five years ago but hopefully enough people complained about the "mirror" display of the moves that you have stopped them. At the very least do it both ways.

I am gradually getting used to the mirror image thing. I also find it helpful to slow the speed down in sections I have problems with. Yippeee!
Good for beginners specially the steep by steep insertrucions

Excellent :) Thank you, David.
Thanks David for another awesome lesson!

Thank you for Day 11 !
Day 11 done.

Correction to that, it is possible but you have to go down sideways!

I position my computer facing a mirror at home to follow.
I love the mirror imaging it makes more sense to me.
How did you get started with tai chi? I think I already asked this. Jegan
Go to taijifit.net/store, and check out the base memberships (there's a free one, too).

Greg thanks for the feedback. I was kind of feeling like going back and forth between mirror view and regular view would get confusing.
Mirror image is so confusing..get totally mixed up with it.
About loosing weight is practicing tai chi do that for me
Can you just do the forms, and we through much practice copy your moves.
The mirror image is indeed confusing. may be 2 butt views would help.
Or put a MIRROR IMAGE font on when in mirror image....
Mirror definitely does not work for me.
I realize that these videos are from five years ago but hopefully enough people complained about the "mirror" display of the moves that you have stopped them. At the very least do it both ways.
Filmora9 app is free and will reverse the whole youtube for people who want to see in reverse.
I know this video is older, but that mirror stuff is SUPER confusing.
So much unnecessary confusion with "mirror image" - just front / back views are 10x better with a few reps.. about to quit..
You make things very confusing with to much explanation
