I had a feeling, though I did go crazy wondering if I made up watching it halfway through when I didn't see it in my watch history and it also not coming up in whatever derivative of "Michi reacts to bao agency rant" I tried to enter into the search to find the video!
Basically Michi was saying that although vtubers aren't dumb (academically and/or common sense-wise), when it comes to dealing with (predatory) agencies they (vtubers) lack a lot street smarts and are too naïve from being too young and inexperienced in the world to know better. This leads to them being easily outsmarted and/or straight up scammed, conned, tricked, and taken advantaged of due to their lack of experience dealing with potentially manipulative and/or shady people. They are far too trusting of people and too impulsive with wanting to live a dream that they neglect (or don't even think about) doing enough research to know most of the red flags, warning signs, and horror stories of malicious individuals involved within the space. The less worldly you are (in regards to knowledge and identifying situations of caution), the more vulnerable you become to those who wish to prey upon you. And a lot of vtubers are ripe for the picking. That's why they end up in these unfortunate circumstances. If you've been sheltered for most of your life due to your parents/family, and haven't experienced the harshness and unforgiving reality of the "real world" due to living in a bubble for so long, then you have NO BUSINESS becoming an agency vtuber because YOU WILL be target #1 to any agency that wants to use and abuse you. Get real life experience dealing with various types of people (the good, the bad, and the neutral) AND THEN AFTER you understand the "true" nature of people better, then you can consider joining an agency (assuming you know what you are doing and understand the risks associated). Do not be naïve. Do not be stubborn. Do not be impulsive. Do not be impatient. Do not be immature. Vtubers who break those rules end up getting themselves in a whole mess of trouble. Unfortunately, most vtubers are so young/inexperienced that they end up breaking AT LEAST 2 out of 5 by default.
Streamer culture in general has a lot of people that lack common sense, and in my opinion, this is especially true for VTubers and their fans. The amount of pretending the anime character isn't a real person or thinking they're endangered for mentioning past lives is crazy.
I'm not too far into the video, but there's also something to be said about how many of these corporations are taking advantage of very young people without much experience, many of whom later talk about their mental illnesses or struggles that the corporation seemingly perpetuates and takes advantage of. Kuro is bipolar and I'm pretty sure has spoken about having ADHD. Michi has BPD. Doki and Matara have severe cases of imposter syndrome. You can't tell me Niji isn't taking advantage of these people, and I think it's even possible they're seeking people who they can more easily manipulate. If nothing else, the amount of VTubers that have CRIPPLING social anxiety is kinda worrying.
Pigs get fed, hogs get slaughtered. More people need to realize this because big corpos never will. They're soulless and only care about getting bigger at the expense of their people and consumers. It's highly doubtful anybody will ever reach Holo or Niji levels of money, and even now we're seeing the cracks in the walls with them both. VTubing is essentially just streaming, with better advertising and branding coming at the cost of higher expenses and the IRL streamer being a "nobody". People need to stop thinking of VTubing through the lens of a Japanese idol industry, and more like regular streaming. We don't need more VTuber corporations. We need more talent agencies like VShojo, and more regular talent agencies willing to work with VTubers.
Whenever Michi asks how honest chat wants her to be from 1 to 10, just once I want to hear what a 1/10 sounds like. Just because I think it would be funny.
Gonna be real. I respect Randon's take more because he's been in the corporate rat race. He knows the deal from the business end and gave much better insight on why these agencies fail right down to the actual running of the agency and the managing of the budget and start up investment.
If I had a nickel of a vtuber I really liked , but the company imploded after their debut, I would have 2 nickels, which isn't much, but it's sad it happened twice. I have mixed feelings for real, but I agree on Bao's takes on this overall. The moment there is a stain towards the company, public trust will be very hard to re-obtain.
Sounds like a lot of overlap with Hollywood, animation, game development, fashion modeling, music etc. The entertainment industry is a meatgrinder, pretty much all areas of it; you creatives gotta take care of each other, unionize etc. It's very easy to abuse people that are passionate about their job, specially when there's a shitload of desperate folks that will take the place of anyone that got killed on the job before the body even gets cold.
Hell yeah, thanks for fixing it. Time to like, comment, re-watch to make sure it gets the algorithm and views (i know reuploads sometimes struggle with that)

A company that doesn't have to care for their workers end up with workers that don't care for their work, and that shows to the customers, and over time competition that has people happy to provide a better product/service will outcompete the vultures (unless severe enough corruption is involved and the market isn't truly free and just wears the skin of the dead free market).
As much as the Vtuber Agencies are underqualified in managing talents, I gotta say most of the random unknown vtubers joining those agencies are uninteresting/bad streamers. 90% of regular streamers arent good entertainer and will never succeed. The desperate vtubers drawn to those scammy companies are usually all part of that unsuccesful group.
A good agency would have an eye for talent and support those that are less experienced. But as Bao said: if you have to many vtubers, you can't get quality, just quantity.
