Stevie Wonder is, among many other things, a great bassist who just happens to play keyboard.
Btw - he plays acoustic bass
@@danbelmontpianoteacher9285 and the drums......
@@danbelmontpianoteacher9285 Do you mean upright?
@@ainsbass yes
@@danbelmontpianoteacher9285 Ahhh...I think not
One other Stevie track that has a rockin bass line is “Master Blaster”. That thing grooves!!
Surprised it wasn't on here, that tune is lit
That tune taught me how to REALLY play bass. Still my favorite!
Totally agree!
I love funk and Know a lot of songs....I cannot think Of many tunes groovier than Boogie in reagae woman....
LOVE YOU STILL LOVE ALL MUSIC
What about "Higher Ground"? It's got the funkiest bassline!
that's by rhcp ? ._.
@@villusive no
@@villusive Stevie originally did it in 1974 and then the Chili Peppers covered it in 1989 on the Mother's Milk record
Forget Bruno Fernandes, or Edouard Mendy, Ian Allison is surely the best signing of 2020. Absolutely love everything he's done for this channel. Big thanks to Ian and Scott.
how bout ruben dias?

Who???
11:30 a bassist mimicking a bass line from a keyboardist, what a great tribute!
Which song - Sir Duke? I thought Nathan Watts played the bass on it?
This was really great, but it's criminal to not have included For Once In My Life. Not only is it a great bass line, but for me personally, is one of the most difficult to mimic. So good.
Anything James plays bass on is very difficult to mimic... any repeated runs are modified each time. He was the best.
James Jamerson baby. Thats why hes the GOAT
That entire album was a Jamerson masterpiece. Probably his best full album.
"I Was Made to Love Her" isn't even mentioned?? Criminal!
My thought exactly
Yes, the most interesting one ! Also "Master blaster jammin".
I was waiting for it the entire video
My very first thought as I loaded the vid. Agreed!
"I was made to love her" was in my opinion his best bassline.
MY FAVORITE TEACHER combined with my favorite ARTIST????..wow what a present!!!
Stevie Wonder has some of the best bass lines. "Jamming", "Sir Duke"
Songs in the key of Life is one of the best albums of all time. 'As' is an amazing song.
As is not just amazing it's one of the greatest songs of all time in my opinion.
@@ineverswag strongly agree.
@@ChunkyPuke4me agree with all of the above
Those ghost notes on So What the Fuss were an absolute treat
When I saw the title, I was thinking “looking forward to hearing ‘I Was Made To Love Her’”, but a little shocked that my favourite Stevie Wonder bass performance not even there. Wow.
That was the first baseline that made me sit up & appreciate the instrument‼️
Lost guitarist here, quality video and a great breakdown. Your ear for tone recreation is second to none mate.
I mean, who doesn’t love Stevie Wonder?? I love the bass lines in his songs just as much, but he’s a genius. ✌️😌
Mesmerizing bass lines. It is tough to put 10 bass lines of Stevie's classics together. There some other gems like "All I do", "Master Blaster," " Higher ground," " living for the city," "Part-time lover," " I was made to lover" and "In your corner."
It’s an aesthetic pleasure to watch this for the Stevie Wonder’s fan from Russia. I love this channel, love what you guys are doing. It’s not about scores or tablatures that are available everywhere, This lesson truly inspires!!! 🔥 Sending you my good vibrations!
Seriously how could you not even mention “I Was Made to Love Her”?
John Paul Jones of Zeppelin called the 'I Was Made To Love Her' bass line the best pop/rock/R&B bass line of all time.
Because you need to learn more songs than the popular songs everyone is told to play 😅
James Jameson was the bassist on I was made to love her.
What about “All I Do”? One of the greatest synth bass lines ever.
he does, at 9:30
@@toasty9670 That’s “Do I Do”
WOW, Heart felt thanks from 56 years on the Bass, at 68 you have provided my first 2 lessons and hope. On the way has always been enough, maybe there is a place in space. Sincerely Woody Woodard
I think your use of pedals is incredible. You have such a great sound and your timing is so tight and funky. You really know this stuff. Thanks for doing this.
I don't even play the bass (I am a drummer) but I love the bass. Having Stevie's songs highlighted...such a great video!!
Same here. Can't play guitar either, but I do like playing those solos on my also when it's possible.
As one of my drummer friends told me ( I'm a bassist) "we have the same heart" .... the drums and bass are best friends
You should start. The background in drums definitely helps with rhythm. And it’s also really nice to be able to play a melody like one can do on a bass
Good list, but it misses "I Was Made to Love Her" and "For Once in My Life".
You did a truly awesome job. And you are a fantastic bass player and superb teacher. Also, your positive energy makes your lessons so much fun to watch and learn from. Thank you so much.
That was TOTALLY awesome. Ian your bass playing is amazing!!! You breaking down the already killer bass lines makes it that much more fascinating . You’re a fantastic teacher!!! I love watching your videos!
"I Was Made to Love Her"
"For Once In My Life"
"Golden Lady"
all songs that would've nicely fit in with this list, but I'm happy to have been exposed to some new Stevie Wonder lines that I hadn't heard before!
Love it Ian! I had such fun! Thank you for doing such an excellent job.
A great selection there. Stevie has so many wonderful bass lines. One of my favourites you didn’t mention is a track called ‘Black Man’ from songs in the key of life. Cheers
Love the format on how you show and partly instruct on your favorite songs.
What a fantastic video. Well done SBL serving up a platter of Ian Martin Allison's infectious joy! Love love LOVE this video. I got work to do . . .
For years, I've been wanting to play those exact baselines. SBL has made it not only effortless on their part, but has shown me how to do it just as effortlessly.
So many amazing lines and such great tone and playing
When I first started playing bass, i considered learning the bass line to sir duke like learning stairway to heaven(6 string guitar being my first instrument). When I finally started digging into his tubes, I fell in love with playing bass.
I have most of Master Blaster, and all of the Sir Duke unison down, but I'm in the middle of The Fretboard Accelerator, (and now The Fretboard Challenge); so I'm going to have to put this one "on the back burner" -- and come back to it when I have more time... Learning all 10 of these basslines would be like taking a master class in Funk!
Thank you!!! amazing video! I really enjoy these series from Ian! Cheers!
Love your stuff!!! So glad you're with SBL!!
Great breakdown of some beautiful basslines and the effects that help achieve the tones! I will be going over this probably 100 more times to snag this stuff!
“…sling shot effect…” Man, Ian, that is SO WELL expressed. I will absolutely be stealing that. :)
It’s all yours!
The fact that "All Day Sucker" is on this list makes it a good list! Thanks again Ian! You Rule!
I love Ian's videos so much because of all these cool information he provides
Awesome!!! Loved every second. I love Jamerson, so the more the merrier.
Yet another great video, Ian. And this one goes straight to the top of my list of favorite SBL videos, for the great choice of content and the way it is presented. Thank you!
So cool! I've always loved the funk that Stevie puts out. Thank you for playing and breaking down the Bass lines!
Ian!!!!!!! You are such a great addition to Scott's Bass Lessons! Love your style of playing! Love your teaching style! Love your positivity! Love learning how to make cool sounds on the bass! Keep it up broheim bass-man!
Great vid!
Ian you are amazing.
Thanks, 4 makin this series.
Thanks Ian! Mind blown. I'm really enjoying hearing new bass artists outside of my bubble.
Hooooo! That tone on "So What The Fuss" is NASTY! Love it!
Thanks Rom!
Always love your videos, Ian!
That was awesome. I've never seen someone look so happy to play!
I've been a SBL member off and on for years, and I recently started taking lessons in person to take me to the next level and provide a different perspective. The best of both worlds! Awesome! Liked and subscribed!
Wicked bass lines and playing - Stevie Wonder is superb
Yesss. This is amazing. It's awesome to see how you approach these lines, Ian.
I've been working on learning Sir Duke by ear for about a week and I was trying to decide where to put the left-hand shifts and this is really helpful!
All 10 of these are incredible lines that I want to learn :)
Awesome playing and sounds, thank you Ian!
I worked at the pro audio company Solid State Logic (SSL) in the late '80s. They had a copy of the 24 track multi-track to the Stevie Wonder songs "Do I Do" and "That Girl" in their demo studio there. I'm a bass player, so I spent quite a few hours after work sitting by myself in that studio listening to the "Do I Do" bass and drum tracks mixed very prominently trying to work out the parts. Happy times.
Your 'Boogie On' tone is absolutely brilliant !!!
Thank you for posting this important work of Stevie W. Excellent lesson on the bass.
I really enjoy your segments Ian. Please do more.
Man! That was a lot to take on, I'm sure many comments on all Stevie's other bass lines. But just wanted to say GREAT JOB!!!
Ian this is super stuff from a big Stevie fan 👍, great playing and info on the effects to get those classic sounds ! it would be great to see a more in depth mini course in SBL on the bass lines of Stevie Wonder , ! here's hoping 😃
Ian, your videos are simply fantastic.
Totally awesome!
Hey Ian. Thanks for bringing the funk. It really made my Wednesday morning with coffee.
All my favorite bass lines in one video!!!!
You guys keep me learning. Weather I intend to, or not. It's always badass at SBL
Great choices and love the joy you get from playin-learning how you created the sounds as well
👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
So many great lines to choose from!!!
Amazing Man, please more of this!!!
My favorite ever since I was a little kid (1975, 76) the groove of Superstition has been one of my faves! The organ (souding like a harpsichord), horns, bass...all of it.
Scott has helped me a ton ever since the Technique Challenge. Recently, your videos struck me with your remarkable execution of funky time feel (swung 16th note syncopations) and glorious legato. I can picture you on the bandstand. You really are fabulous. Thank you for your wisdom.
Ian does it again! Keep em comin!
Love your videos Ian! You rock
Jamerson was a master of tension and release. That P-bass looks stunning.
Ian is such an awesome player. So versatile and in the groove of each song
Scott I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you for this wonderful and most excellent tutorial on some of the most difficult songs ever created for the pop culture. You have so much soul and BackBeat groove. It's refreshing watching you illustrate how the songs are really supposed to be played. I do the best I can by ear. I generally don't refer to tablature. But there are some tricky things about Stevie wonder's songs. My mission is that I have to learn how to sing and play on the base at the same time lead vocals to Sir Duke, and I wish. These are my homework assignments.
I always have so much fun watching you share your tips! Great passionate mutual fun. Keeps me running back to my shed.
Love this, it's a great way to expand a bassplayer's arsenal of creative options and not just for instrumentalists but songwriters too.
One of your BEST videos! Thx for this
I love this series of videos from Ian. I'd love to hear you do a breakdown of Pearl Jam and STP basslines. Thanks for doing these!
Yeah, Stevie has the best bass lines.
Had so much fun Ian.
This was awesome u inspired me to get back on bass after 10 years.Another video that would be awesome is a ZAPP and RODGER top 10 baseline...I'd commend you lol✊🏾🙏🏾
Top stuff Ian! You really lifted those bass parts out and brought them to life. It can be so hard analysing synth bass parts not to mention reproducing the sounds. 11 out of 10 go to the top of the class!
Nice work Ian! So many epic bass lines to choose from! One of my favorite synth lines from Stevie is "GO HOME" off of Square Circles 1985. Be nice to have Your take & break down.
Thanks for sharing the inspiration & Good vibrations One & All :)!
You guys are so amazing, and that bass is so cool.
So good, I’d love to see one like this on Jamerson!!
Some of my favorite lines. Nice job...
Thanks for breaking down your sound creation. We might need a volume two. Even songs that use synth like "Go Home" would groove so well on electric bass.
Awesome video, my favourite one yet, love me some Stevie all day
Thanks Ian you are amazing!!!!!
Probably the best bass video ever loved it. And Stevie.
Thanks Ian & SBL! Brillant!!!!
you guys make me motivated every day, even I am surely too old ...thanks a lot. And Ian, you are an awesome teacher
Never too old to do something for yourself that pleases you. When you're older you've likely done so much for so many others. Enjoy!
superb video. thanks
You could’ve made 5 videos of top 10 Stevie Bass lines and not have any overlaps. Love that this video wasn’t just the hits! Some of my favorites not mentioned are:
I Was Made To Love Her
For Once In My Life
Master Blaster
Summer Soft
Part Time Lover
Boogie on Reggae Woman
Great video Ian!
Hey I grew up w/ wonder. From my father. You took it .,and made some of the concoctions easier to understand man. So much for back scratching all my dads 45's just to learn. Thank you.🙋🙌😘
Thank you Ian that was awesome! Sooo well played and your enthusiasm is contagious...
How about a lesson on Paul Mc Cartney bass lines?
Thank you again mate and please keep on like that
Loooooved this Ian! Two that I’m surprised that didn’t make were hotter than July’s Master Blaster and the chorus/solo sections of I ain’t gonna stand for it.
Awesome Stevie stuff Ian!
You can never teach to much Jamerson, Babbit and Watts...please continue!...Masterblaster +1
Awesome, thank you!!
Awesome Dude, Awesome Artist, Awesome Video!!
