I think NZXT should watch people doing this and look for where people are stumbling or having issues and take those as learning points to improve their documentation. Honestly as a first pass for this kind of thing the document is very impressive. I truly hope they keep making these kinds of kits

even with no shakey hands, m.2 screws are so annoying.. especially with non magnetized screwdriver and already installed motherboard in the case that is standing.. gosh that was hell for me :D

I did this with a screw from my high-end sunglasses recently. Spent hours combing the multi-tone carpet with a flashlight and magnet. I found it on day two, turns out it wasn't even magnetic
i spent 5 or 6 hours during my first build looking for a screw that i had no idea whether was in my case or dropped somewhere else. it was horrible lol
Gotta say I love that Nzxt has this. Such a great way for new people to get into building. Frankly I’d buy the book for myself just to have separate of the actual components

Thank you!! It was a really fun experience. As for diagnosing the error, I wasn’t fully confident about my cpu cooler mounting. Something about it hadn’t felt right… I was close to calling customer support just before we checked the bios and confirmed my doubts. I was also lucky to have Dawid there who could confirm the issue was with the CPU cooler. Thanks for watching though :)
Writing good manuals is hard, especially when targeting end users. The thing is you can't assume anything about what they know, and just hope their reading comprehension is at least decent. So you write the instructions as if it was for morons, while carefully trying to make it not entirely obvious that's what you are doing as it will make some users mad knowing they are treated to instructions intended for the less cerebral amongst us. At the same time you have to make the text flow so people feel compelled to keep reading even when they feel things are so obvious that they can handle it without the instructions. That's why often the users with some prior knowledge are the most dangerous. The total newbie who can't even start to fool themselves into thinking they've got this are he ideal audience. They will read and follow the instructions to the letter while the one with some prior knowledge is far more likely to just skip ahead and potentially miss a important step. But again you can't let the customers feel you are treating them like idiots because then they WILL skip ahead just in spite. "You think you can get away with treating me like and idiot? I'll show you who's the idiot here!" And then they at best spend twice the time trying to find out why it doesn't work, or at worst break something expensive. But I'm not holding that against them as I know I've done things like that myself. All the author can do is try to keep the instructions interesting to read while not sounding infantile or condescending. I've written some instructions like these and I'm always surprised by how short attention span most people have when it comes to following instructions. Watching the video of someone following my instructions can have me wanting to scream at the screen shouting instructions, usually it boils down to things like "But just read the instructions, it's all in there. Look it says exactly how to do that step for step. Please I wrote that extremely carefully. READ IT. IT WILL SAVE YOU TIME!" I guess it's a bit like how some sports fanatics watch matches on the TV, just a bit more personal as every time someone fails to follow the instructions it's because I failed when writing them... The manual from NZXT seems to be very heavy on the pictures and diagrams and light on text, and if you can swing it that's usually much more efficient than walls of text. Also a good and light structure with ordered and bullet lists helps people follow along in the instructions. There are probably a lot I don't know about the secrets of writing good instruction manuals as I only wrote a few and never looked back. It didn't help that my boss thought writing a complete system manual was something that I could do in a week or so...

It's easy to miss things when your mounting plates can install several ways. I had to keep double checking when I upgraded my 3900x Ryzen from the stock cooler to a Arctic Freezer 50. Then when I was sure everything was good the backplate was loose so I thought I had something wrong. I put the heatsync on loosely without thermal paste and it looked right and so I put my dot of paste down and started screwing it down. As it pulled to the cpu the spring you missed pulled it tight and it was was seated. I think you got the mounting plates backwards and so it couldn't touch the cpu properly. Back in ancient times when I started building it would probably have immediately fried the chip and you'd be out a ton of money. Modern mother boards are so easy because most things are keyed in the plugs and the things that aren't won't blow up if you get it wrong, plus the wonderful cpu overheat fail safes😎
In these videos (tech-tubers having others build) two things become apparent. 1: NZXT did a great job with the instruction booklets. 2: NZXT needs to tweak a few things. I saw one video where the paste was discarded accidentally (I think it was Jayz' video), and in this one Anna ended up putting the brackets on the wrong side. Both of these are examples of how difficult it can be to catch things that experts consider obvious. E.g. obviously the bracket is on the wrong way, and you obviously shouldn't discard the small packet with paste.
In Jayz video, like in this one the paste esa in a little paper bag, not on a siringe, Jay addressed this on the comments I think that they thought it was silica gel or something and just threw it away, the paste was there they just didn't notice
@@briandiaz1363 I know - and it's something that anyone could easily end up doing by accident. In that one, it should be mitigated somehow. Maybe a big piece of cardboard attached to it or something? Adding a complete list of everything included and asking people to check at the start would also be a good idea.
Its hilarious to me that she says she's embarrased by mistakes but they're the same beginner mistakes as everyone makes! Good on her, this was a great video!

Kind of unfair to say 😂 It’s healthy for y’all to have separate likes. Willing to bet she has plenty of hobbies u don’t like, or think is dumb. I met my husband in an MMO about 15 yrs ago. So we had gaming/PC stuff in common. I also was super into Camaros, old muscle cars, building fiberglass speaker boxes, and goin to the beach at night. He liked building absurd bike ramps, skateboarding, hunting… The real trick is to keep ur hobbies, but find things u can both enjoy (tolerate hahah). Chances are she doesn’t even realize u actually want her to join in, or if she has kids-she’s too drained from parent stuff, maybe she’s worried u might laugh at her.. so many possibilities. Sry. It’s none of my business, I just felt bad for u cause u have that “grass is always greener” talk. That’s just gonna become a self fulfilling prophecy unless u challenge the way u think about & approach about this kinda stuff. Take care!
I mean the concept is pretty cool for a first time builder, and I gotta say that case is beautiful. But I do think you probably spend a bit more than you should on it for the ease of it all. However It's a super cool way to get people into PC building! I love it!
I like the case too. The final product looked really good. I think the added experience with the book, and journey makes it worth the extra cost. Buts that’s just my opinion :)
I know this video is a couple of years old but I just wanted to say that Anna did a great job on this PC build. It's alright to be nervous when it comes to building a PC, but the end result is lovely. Definitely leagues above what The Verge did.

I'm loving my NZXT system so far. I do wish this had been a option a few months back when I ordered mine but their customer service has been on point when I've had questions come up

This was actually a really great look at the BLD kit. I was curious about how it was all put together, and I think this is a really nice option for those that want to build it themselves and save a bit of money, but want everything to be compatible. One thing, Dawid, does the literature have a section for "Stuff That Could Go Wrong"?
It did. We could have showed that part of the book. There was a long troubleshooting section and lots of customer support videos/links/tips. It was well thought out I must say.
Those H510 cases are so well built. My system was inside my old car when I rolled it in a ditch. Brushed it off with like one bent part of the chassis by the psu and that was it.
Your wife definitely learned from you! She knows quite a bit of stuff right off the beginning! I mean average people don't even know what RAM is or looks like!

Building PC's intimidates regular folk and this is a great video which will not only entertain, but also inform potential builders on how rewarding it can be to do it yourself. I had to look away because I almost spit my water on my keyboard when you lifted that CPU cooler up! I think this is a really cool concept for NZXT to do. So many people feel overwhelmed when I say that (in normal times) it's much better to build your own PC. When I built my first many years ago, I just did a lot of reading. Building a PC today is far, far easier than it used to be. Also there are less tacky builds than back in the day. If this is a success, it would be nice to open up PC building to more people in a way like this. Once you do a bit of reading, watch a YT video, and do your first build, you'll feel accomplished and have more confidence in yourself. You are all capable of building your own PC! And then having to spend more time working on RGB than actually playing games.
Man it is so easy to build in NZXT cases, also very cool of them to actually make that " Guide " kit thingy, most of my friends could use one of those, instead of having to constantly call me over the phone, or make me assemble their PCs *SIGHS*

That nervousness is so relatable. I've lost count of how many PCs I've built by now, and I still got the nerves when I built a brand new rig for the first time in 15 years this week. I STILL shake when I peek in the side panel and see just how much money I put into that thing.
Seeing the unsquished thermal paste after Anna had to go back and remove the cooler was hilarious. Other than that, she did a clean build and it was fun to watch.
Best part....Anna saying that she wanted to build without the instructions......Anna your not alone people rarely follow instructions. It came out beautifully. Really nice job

I love this. As someone with lots of experience building PCs, I think it's super cool NZXT has put together kits like this with illustrations and whatnot to make the process as accessible as possible. I may actually recommend this kind of thing to people in the future after seeing this video. I mean...knowing how to do everything without help is great and all, but like why have kits like this one not been a thing for so much longer? lol. We've had "PC build kits" that'll pair parts for you online to make sure it's all compatible and stuff, but then when it's sent to you, you're expected to figure out the assembly on your own. Oh, and bonus points for Windows being pre-installed! No one ever talks about that part of the process. It's not like it's a difficult thing to do, but for someone doing it for the first time, I could see it being pretty intimidating.
5:50 To be fair, if I was a youngster and didn't know anything, I would totally have tried removing that chipset heatsink thinking it was for the M.2 slot. I think a slight revision to the book might help to warn users of it.
I want to congratulate Anna on a frankly spectacular job. Also NZXT for providing such a good introduction for new builders. One thing Anna did much better than I ever have is the cable management! Having three sata drives connected DOESN'T help, but I'm sure if she had those too she'd have presented it nicer than I've managed to. Thanks to this video, I now know how to install a modern Intel processor, which believe it or not, I haven't done yet. Good video.
Great job Anna! I think videos like this are very important because they demonstrate that nearly anyone can assemble a PC.. they really ARE insert tab A into Slot B equipment now. So many people are afraid , when really its very easy to learn and do.
So, because the heatsink and fan wasnt making any contact with the cpu, the computer was crashing. Dell, on the other hand, only considers a cpu "overheating" when the computer is crashing. Conclusion: for a Dell to be overheating it literally need to have NO heatsink/fan. (If your fan dies but you still have a big heatsink, i think it will still throttle massively but not crash). Maybe a video idea for Dawid 🤔
I built my mom a little pc out of My leftover parts and after a while she started complaining it was slow and hard to do anything with. I finally was over and checked it out. The cpu was running at 73c and throttling back dog slow. I looked it over and one of the heatsync mounts was broken and it wasn't really tight on the cpu any more. I didn't have another one with me and so eventually I found a twist tie and cranked the loose side down with that. It dropped back to the mid 20s and was fast and happy again. I actually was in the bios screen and looking at the temp as I tightened it down and could watch it drop immediately when I got it right. It ran for years till I upgraded it again.
I got my BLD kit yesterday and it included a motherboard with an AM4 socket but the provided CPU is an i5 11400F. NZXT is going to replace the motherboard, but has specific packing instructions for the motherboard so now I need to go purchase supplies that meet their shipping return criteria. I hope others have better luck with their kits! Definitely killed my excitement for building my first PC.

Wanted to try build a PC with my son but don’t trust myself to buy components. Almost debating going this route so I know everything is compatible and fits proper.
And in today's marketplace, you most likely will not be able to purchase all of the components at reasonable prices individually. But remember this; "No, try not. Do or do not. There is no try."

What is weird about the CPU cooler is on the Vetroo one in my Dell XPS 8940 does have the brackets on that way. I had to double check my video and the directions after watching this video. Great job Anna!

Mounting the cooler without actually mounting the cooler was impressive actually.
I struggled so much with mounting the cooler because i probably screwed too much on one side and one corner couldnt get a grip

Both of these are examples of how difficult it can be to catch things that experts consider obvious. E.g. obviously the bracket is on the wrong way, and you obviously shouldn't discard the small packet with paste.
In Jayz video, like in this one the paste esa in a little paper bag, not on a siringe, Jay addressed this on the comments I think that they thought it was silica gel or something and just threw it away, the paste was there they just didn't notice
@@briandiaz1363 I know - and it's something that anyone could easily end up doing by accident.
In that one, it should be mitigated somehow. Maybe a big piece of cardboard attached to it or something? Adding a complete list of everything included and asking people to check at the start would also be a good idea.

Its hilarious to me that she says she's embarrased by mistakes but they're the same beginner mistakes as everyone makes! Good on her, this was a great video!
my beginner mistake was bent the pins in the MB socket of a 450-dollar MB, so it turned into a 600-dollar board as it cost 150 to replace the socket.
Nice job Anna! Kudos on the cable management. I think Dawid needs to subcontract that portion of all his PC builds to you. Make sure you charge him appropriately for your skill. :)

I'm loving my NZXT system so far. I do wish this had been a option a few months back when I ordered mine but their customer service has been on point when I've had questions come up

This was actually a really great look at the BLD kit. I was curious about how it was all put together, and I think this is a really nice option for those that want to build it themselves and save a bit of money, but want everything to be compatible.
One thing, Dawid, does the literature have a section for "Stuff That Could Go Wrong"?
It did. We could have showed that part of the book. There was a long troubleshooting section and lots of customer support videos/links/tips. It was well thought out I must say.

Those H510 cases are so well built. My system was inside my old car when I rolled it in a ditch. Brushed it off with like one bent part of the chassis by the psu and that was it.

Seriously awesome video Dawid & Anna (w/low key assist to NZXT). Building PC's intimidates regular folk and this is a great video which will not only entertain, but also inform potential builders on how rewarding it can be to do it yourself. Kudos for NZXT for this push into DIY PC too. (Takes balls to do this from a Business standpoint)

I think this is a really cool concept for NZXT to do. So many people feel overwhelmed when I say that (in normal times) it's much better to build your own PC. When I built my first many years ago, I just did a lot of reading. Building a PC today is far, far easier than it used to be. Also there are less tacky builds than back in the day. If this is a success, it would be nice to open up PC building to more people in a way like this. Once you do a bit of reading, watch a YT video, and do your first build, you'll feel accomplished and have more confidence in yourself. You are all capable of building your own PC! And then having to spend more time working on RGB than actually playing games.

Man it is so easy to build in NZXT cases, also very cool of them to actually make that " Guide " kit thingy, most of my friends could use one of those, instead of having to constantly call me over the phone, or make me assemble their PCs *SIGHS*

I love this. As someone with lots of experience building PCs, I think it's super cool NZXT has put together kits like this with illustrations and whatnot to make the process as accessible as possible. I may actually recommend this kind of thing to people in the future after seeing this video. I mean...knowing how to do everything without help is great and all, but like why have kits like this one not been a thing for so much longer? lol. We've had "PC build kits" that'll pair parts for you online to make sure it's all compatible and stuff, but then when it's sent to you, you're expected to figure out the assembly on your own. Oh, and bonus points for Windows being pre-installed! No one ever talks about that part of the process. It's not like it's a difficult thing to do, but for someone doing it for the first time, I could see it being pretty intimidating.
Hats off for NZXT :) What a great way to get people into PC building ;)

5:50 To be fair, if I was a youngster and didn't know anything, I would totally have tried removing that chipset heatsink thinking it was for the M.2 slot. I think a slight revision to the book might help to warn users of it.
Tbf Its probably pretty hard to remove, its not a screw (its like clips on the back of the motherboard you need to squeeze)

One thing Anna did much better than I ever have is the cable management! Having three sata drives connected DOESN'T help, but I'm sure if she had those too she'd have presented it nicer than I've managed to.

Great job Anna! I think videos like this are very important because they demonstrate that nearly anyone can assemble a PC.. they really ARE insert tab A into Slot B equipment now. So many people are afraid , when really its very easy to learn and do.
So, because the heatsink and fan wasnt making any contact with the cpu, the computer was crashing.
Dell, on the other hand, only considers a cpu "overheating" when the computer is crashing.
Conclusion: for a Dell to be overheating it literally need to have NO heatsink/fan.
(If your fan dies but you still have a big heatsink, i think it will still throttle massively but not crash).
Maybe a video idea for Dawid 🤔

I built my mom a little pc out of
My leftover parts and after a while she started complaining it was slow and hard to do anything with. I finally was over and checked it out. The cpu was running at 73c and throttling back dog slow. I looked it over and one of the heatsync mounts was broken and it wasn't really tight on the cpu any more. I didn't have another one with me and so eventually I found a twist tie and cranked the loose side down with that. It dropped back to the mid 20s and was fast and happy again. I actually was in the bios screen and looking at the temp as I tightened it down and could watch it drop immediately when I got it right. It ran for years till I upgraded it again.
"Ok, now time to stuff."
She's a very quick learner, she's got the finer intricacies mastered already!

I got my BLD kit yesterday and it included a motherboard with an AM4 socket but the provided CPU is an i5 11400F. NZXT is going to replace the motherboard, but has specific packing instructions for the motherboard so now I need to go purchase supplies that meet their shipping return criteria. I hope others have better luck with their kits! Definitely killed my excitement for building my first PC.

I've seen 10+ year "PC Techs" do the exact same thing with cpu coolers and fans. Anna did a great job, Definitely something to be proud of. Congrats Anna!

Wanted to try build a PC with my son but don’t trust myself to buy components. Almost debating going this route so I know everything is compatible and fits proper.
And in today's marketplace, you most likely will not be able to purchase all of the components at reasonable prices individually. But remember this; "No, try not. Do or do not. There is no try."
And the book is awesome. I highly recommend doing this with your kid 😊 if you do, let us know how it goes!

What is weird about the CPU cooler is on the Vetroo one in my Dell XPS 8940 does have the brackets on that way. I had to double check my video and the directions after watching this video. Great job Anna!

Dope as fuck video mate. When I built my first PC it took me absolute ages, it was frustrating as balls but rewarding in the end. I have since built and maintained quite a few chasing that high, but nothing beats the memory of your first.
