It Gets Good - Sonic Chaos for Game Gear

Game Gear Sonic comes into its own in 1993 with the release of Sonic Chaos, one of the best entries for the portable version of the series. With lots of explore, fun level design, the addition of Tails, and wacky new abilities like rocket shoes, Sonic Chaos is a huge step up from the punishing Sonic 2 for Game Gear. As good as it is in context of the Game Gear, is Sonic Chaos still worth playing today?

Translated from the JP instruction manual: "Sleeping Egg Zone is a dream world created by Dr. Eggman, taking place on a mysterious floating island in the sky."
I'm guessing Gigalopolis Zone (or Gigapolis in some versions) means giga + metropolis.
And it's funny you saw this game has no memorable music... that zone's theme has stuck with me since I first heard it on GameGear as a kid.

I really dig your style. 8-bit parallax is one of my favorite things. The Master System ad Game Gear have a feature called Horizontal Interrupts that achieve this effect. In reality it's actually not that hard to do, but not many games do it.
Sagaia on the Master System uses it to great effect, and GG Shinobi and GG Aleste use different techniques (Background Palete changing and tile animations respetively) to achieve the same effect.

I never really got into this one like I did with Triple Trouble or Tails Adventures, but I'm actually really nostalgic for the music because Kevin Eva would play it a lot in the background on Radio Redux when he was just talking

I feel like sonic chaos was made because sonic 2 on the game-gear was just so bad that they had to make a more accurate portrayal. Even with the playable tails, and better levels.
