Try doing a timing chain job on these. You have to take the engine out and that's the easy part. Timing it requires an expensive tool kit. Once you get it timed, reinstalling it is the hard part. Getting the torque converter lined up is a bitch!
Thanks man/amigo, you helped me out. The gaskets will fit to the grommet screws using a $1 pick and hook tool from harbor freight and then the gasket will stay in place, very nicely attached to the value cover as you reinstall it. the passenger side back bolts were tough to get to. I found my front drivers side timing chain guide was broken but my passenger side - the back one- was still in good shape. Any advice about the broken one? mine is a 98 sohc, 223333 miles

What kind of spray did you use for the part you clean with the white brush?

How many day it took to finish the job
Is the engine setup about the same on a 1995 explorer?
Did you use sealant to seal the gaskets on the covers?
I only use the gaskets
