And I just did this job myself for the first time ever. And I didn’t have to take off the alternator there’s enough room to wiggle that valve cover around to get it off and back on again.
9:38 dude. No doubt. I hate having to send my '91 Ranger to the shop, but sometimes I have no choice. I was just wrenching on the ol' pig earlier and kept finding all kinds of bootleg half assed work and it drives me nuts. I need enough time to do all of my own work. Enough time and a wayyyyy better equipped shop than my garage. 🤣
6:19 “whoever was in here before me fucked it” 😂 “I’ll come back to it tomorrow when I’m not angry” lol I’m the same way cuz someone snapped one of the bolts on my ac compressor
LOL, my neighbors asked me to not start before 6am, but living in phx, especially in the summer, once the sun is up, it's too hot to work. but they were put off by the grunting and swearing that early in the morning.
I'm about to tackle this exact valve cover gasket work. Watched this video and glad that I did too. Frustrating when you have to be delicate with the old plastic parts. My first thought when I examined the EGR situation was to remove the two bolts from the EGR body not wiggling the intake off the tube. Definitely need to heat the bolts but way easier. Great tips on avoiding a meltdown. Sometimes I think egineers do shit like this purposely just to mess with mechanics / automotive technicians and small dogs. I believe Indian Head Gasket Sealer is the product you were trying to remember but I use it for cork gaskets and water pump gaskets and bird houses
I just noticed you said you had to take the radiator hose off you said there was no way to get that valve cover out of there. I didn’t have any problem doing the job with the alternator and the radiator hose is still in place.
For that EGR tube it’s much easier to take the 2 bolts out about 6” below the intake and pulling straight down to remove it from the intake. Then it’s out of the way for the valve cover. No need to remove intake. I use “Right Stuff” rtv just on the front and rear mating line on head “2 joints” and then use the FelPro gasket that also has the captive area to hold the cover bolts in place.
Great video thanks for the information. I'm going to pull them off to see if the oil is circulating. Messy, but it's the only way I know how to check if the fuel pump is working (other than the guage which also doesn't work). 😐
Do you mean oil pump?? . If you hear the lifters ticking / clattering... that's a good sign you don't have oil PSI . . The sending unit is below the power steering pump.... 1 wire . Try unplugging it, key on Guage should peg out 1 way . Then use a wire and hook it to ground Should peg out the other way . . Check to see if you are getting voltage on that wire also . Probably 12 volts... but may be 5v . . As the PSI increases.... it drops/increases the resistance . Voltage flows down the wire....into sensor, which changes resistance.... and then into the engine block (returning to the battery through the ground strap/wire that hooks to the engine, then to the frame or battery)
I have a 1993 Ranger 4.0 OHC. I need to remove the Drivers side Valve Cover. Do I need to remove the AC compressor or does it move out of the way so I can get to it? 👍
they just... come off. If they are stuck a razorblade can be used to scrape it off. that's the same with every gasket, didn't think I needed to show such a basic step.
Thanks for convincing me I don’t want to tackle this job myself.
LOL, it's not that bad of a job, but it's a pain for sure.
It's not that hard, me and my friend did it in like 2 days.
It was worth the $420 to save two or 3 days and get a 2 year 24k warranty if it starts leaking again😂
I feel like i got schizophrenia trying to complete this

My neighbors probably hate me because of my mechanics temper I did an auto->manual swap you can probably guess how it went

@@AICvideo yeah I’m pretty sure my neighbors were scared as I was violently hitting the chassis with a breaker bar and yelling at the top of my lungs

Where did the crank case vent tube go to? Took mine apart and can’t find the tube
Thanks for the information.
Know where to get the pcv tube that comes off the intake post MAS sensor?
Junk yard.
@@AICvideo I'm in Texas that sounds like dry rot potential. But I will see if I can find it at the local yard anyway

I don't know how different a 93 is from a 98 (mine). but I did have to remove the bolts, and then I could move it around to get the valve cover off.
@@AICvideo Do I have to remove the intake manifold to get the drivers side valve cover removed.
I did on mine.
So the intake has to come off?
Ok you redeemed yourself from the other video. Thank you. You could reference this vid in that old one's maybe,
Good idea, posted a link in the pinned comment, and video description.
You didn't show how you put the gasket back on... Did you use anything to seal the gaskets
That depends on the gasket kit you go with. some require something, some do not.
Damn I watched till the end and basically it went to finished didn’t show how he took off cover gasket and replaced

What year is this engine
Mine is a 1998, but the engine stuck around till 2000 when the went to the overhead cam vs pushrod.
Pushrod is also called OHV (over head valve)
Just wanted to put a helpful comment in.
What type of rtv did you use
Just the standard black oil resistant type. I figured the intake is plastic, so it can't be dealing with that high of temps, and I had it on hand.
What year a ranger is this
1998
@@AICvideo ok thank ya
6:09 Autism moment 😂❤
Inspired by AvE.
I did it both in 1hr
Was it 115+ degrees outside when you were doing it?
Unfortunately you still didn’t show the work & just talked about it. Keep making money & wasting people’s time 🤦🏻♀️
Thanks for watching!
Really? I think he got us there, in this vid.
Can't believe I fell for your shit twice. Anyone can talk about this repair, but I mean come on dude show some work and be helpful
I don't have anything good to say, so I won't say anything at all.
