    01:02 The Golden Globe - The race that changed the world
    12:29 IMOCA & the new Ocean Race goes public
    18:28 SailGP - The fastest cats into the wild
    23:41 Battle of the big guns - The Rolex Sydney Hobart Race
    In 1968, one race changed the world as nine skippers headed off into the unknown in their bids to be the first and the fastest solo sailors to complete an unaided lap of the planet under sail.
    Fifty years later, a re-run of the Sunday Times Golden Globe looks set to make headlines once again as the first two skippers head towards the finish after 29,000 miles and over 200 days alone. We look back at this extraordinary event, as well as the race that started it all.
    We also find out what the next fully crewed race around the world will look like as race formerly known as the Volvo Ocean Race announces big changes ahead.
    Plus, the fastest cats in sailing get released into the wild as SailGP prepares for its inaugural event in Sydney.
    Staying in Australia we look back at the battle of the big guns in this year’s Rolex Sydney-Hobart Race.

    Why is/are there no movable/retractable blade(s) in the bows of these boats that are so frequently capsize? Most of capsizing happens
    when the bow submerges and high angle at high speed. A properly created, placed and oriented blade that would be elevated from the bow at such moments could/would generate uplift force that could/would prevent capsizing. I presume such blade(s) could be built in the box watertight not endangering the movement, speed of boat when the bow the bow submerges but does not generate the risk capsizing. He used a wind vane self steering autopilot. Strong and doesn't use electricity, made by a company called Hydravane. Brilliant bit of kit!

    Wow, about 3 hrs. ago I finished reading Robert Knox-Johnson's book, "A World of My Own", what a coincidence!!! I turn on my computer and this video is on suggested list. Could that be an omen?

      How was the book

    • @raynic1173
      @raynic1173 5 років тому

      @@timh1187 the book was a good read, I knew the general story, but never read a first person account. Author and publisher did a good job mixing the narration with actual daily log accounts.

    Volvo Ocean, hmmm, if you're watching, the reason I stopped watching halfway thru the race is that for all the media opportunities you had with a dedicated crew man, electronics and satellite doo-hickies, the weekly show coverage kind of sucked, what's a boy to do? It should have been loaded with on boat coverage AND every boat could of had a drone, the aerial footage is amazing. I guess the budget was busted on the satellite domes? And don't get me started on all the Euro stops, that's udderly ridiculous for an ocean series. It could have been great.
