- On this Part 1 video, we are growing this Giant Taro, harvesting and wintering the bulbs during 2020 season.
Part 2 video will document the bulbs during the dormant winter, planting them in Spring, documenting the growth during the 2021 season, and harvesting and winterizing the bulbs again for the upcoming Winter.
Good video! Nice to see a Father and daughter create memories. 😊
Thank you. Have a great evening. Gob bless
This is the best video I've seen on growing and over wintering of these amazing plants. I live in Canada so would have to dig them up in the fall also. I'm very new to gardening and I just live the giant leaves of these plants!
Thank you for the kind comment 😊. Have a great evening
Down in my area they grow along the sides of ditches, creeks and a lot of the elderly people’s homes. People will gabs a shoot or two and plant it in their yards and a few years later they are all over. I appreciate you showing how many bulbs came from the mother. Very informative 🌱
Wow! I purchased one of this giant bulb for $15
Wow I’ve watched a lot of elephant ear videos and this is by far the best! Thanks!
Hahaha. Thanks. I’m working on editing part 2. Have a great weekend
Thanks for this. Now I have to get more big plants despite I dont know where to put them. Lovely species! Your daughter is a natural talent in front of the camera.
Thank you! Hahaha yes, Jesenice loves being in front of the camera. She continues to hone in her skills at it. She’s been on UA-cam vloging since she was 2 years old.
Thank you for chronicling your experience with these mammoth elephant ears. We just bought some and you have given us insights as to care and what to expect. Good luck with the rest!
Thanks! Good luck with your elephant ears. I am working on editing part 2 of this video now. We have a lot of bulbs now from these two bulbs. It’s good that we don’t have to buy bulbs every year.
Just purchased 1 mammoth bulb from Home Depot! I’m excited to plant it, thanks for sharing a video
Best video ever! Thank you!
Wow that is amazing! From one Mammoth elephant ear to more than 5 bulbs.
Great job of documenting the progress of the elephant ear and how to propagate.
thank you Keely
Best video out there! And I've watched way too many videos on this topic. Great job guys!
Happy New Year! May you and your family have a healthy and prosperous 2022.
Great tutorial. Just planted my first bulb today. Thank you!
let me know the progress. we are fairly new of growing this so curious how others do it
How long do they take to grow?
@@LoveNLight1111 it's growing pretty wild!!! Four main shoots with two leaves each. More growth developing. It's pretty tropical here, keeping soil moist and sticky. They seem to really love that and a little shade. How are yours coming along?
@@bassphantom4613 I saw these bulbs at Walmart and was on the fence to buy them bc I wasn’t sure how long they would take. I instead bought grown ones from Lowe’s. Will try the bulbs next
Dear sir I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. May the good lord bless you and your family every day of your lives .
Jesenice is so hilarious 😅
Thanks Joe! Merry Christmas to you and your family also. May 2021 be healthy and prosperous for you. Jesenice turns 13 today! But most of the time, I think she's older than i am.
Fascinating video! Thanks for sharing this. What an amazing place you have. Have a great upcoming weekend and a Merry x-mas! 🎼✌🎵🌹🎸❤️

Did you ever post the 2nd video just purchased 4 from sams yesterday for my daughter's and I!
Awesome video really enjoyed the quality content!
Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful Sunday.
Another nice video. Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you also. Looking forward to 2021
Cool video👍
Thanks. Merry Christmas
Put 10-10-10 fertilizer on them. They will become MASSIVE! I apply about a cup to our elephant ear bed each month during the growing season.
thanks for the tip!
Great video!
Thank you. Have a great weekend.
I've been propagating elephants ear also for my turtle pond filtration
Thanks for watching. Yes, these plants are very good at being a natural filtration
I jut got done watching this video. And I must say this has got to my favorite elephant ear video!! I was looking for the part 2 but I don’t see it posted 😔. Can you please give an update once you plant them back??! Pleassseee! Thank you!
Thank you so much. I will definitely let you know once I post part 2
These are Colocasia not Alocasia. Leaf points down versus up. I enjoyed your video, thanks for making it.
Thank you! I just did a little more research and I believe you are correct especially also that this variety also grows in standing water unlike the Alocasia. And I do use this plant as a big plant to help filter my pond. I will change the title.
so I plant it with that little leaf downward???
Awesome! What fertilizer did you use?
Thanks for watching. I didn’t use any fertilizers. I use my pond water to water them so the water is full of nutrients from the fish waste
Is there a part 2?
What kind of soil are you using Black Gold Soil?
I mainly use compost from our compost pile.
Bonjour
Vous sauriez où acheter des bulbes d'oreilles d'éléphants ?
Merci ❤
Im in the USA, so I can get them anywhere here. If you are in France, maybe Amazon
How long does it take for one of those to grow
during hot weather, within a week it will begin
I planted 3 bulbs about 3 weeks ago. One is growing but the other two seem to still be dormant. How can I wake those up?
What’s the temperature outside consistently at? And what State are you located?
It can take up to 8 weeks
Mine took little over a month to peek out of the surface, they grow roots for a while underground before you can visually see any growth.
@@hectora7479 are you growing now? How is it doing?
@@kimuseni growing well, still small, but growing rather quickly nonetheless
I have mine growing in my Koi Pond. Do I put them in the garage in the winter?
I’m not an expert on these plants but I don’t think they will survive cold temperature 50 degrees or lower. I live in Chicago, so our winters are harsh at times with below zero some days.
@@kimuseni, I live in Southern California and it is a little chilly. My Elephant Ears are starting to curl up. But they haven't turned yellow yet. I use them in my Koi Pond. I can't believe how huge they got. I guess that is why they're called Elephant Ears, Lol! When they start to show signs of stress I will clean them as you demonstrate in your video. Thank you so much! I hope you have a Merry Christmas.
Diana Blanke Merry Christmas to you and your family also Diana. Make sure the bulbs are dry before winterizing them in a dark and cooler place like the garage otherwise they will rot. I learned that the hard way. Stay safe!
@@kimuseni thank you!
Diana Blanke 😊
I planted one two months ago and haven’t seen any growth. I’m in Texas.
Oh wow! I would dig it up and see the condition of the bulb making sure it’s still solid and not didn’t rot.
So did I and mine just sprouted like a week ago ❤
I thought this was a silent got spooked cuz the kid, lol
You shouldn’t water the ears only the ground which it’s planted in.
Weird because when it rains as the makers intended the leaves get wet...🤔😂
Man, that bulb was the size of a coconut 😳
yeah! its huge. im still learning on how to take care and winterizing these plants
Tight
That is yude
