- Today I want to share with you how you can homestead without land or with very little land. We have been have been "homesteaders" since we first lived in a little apartment growing food out of containers. You don't need lots of acreage. We now have a mini homestead on 1/4 acre of land in the city.

I loved this! These are all great tips! We live on a quarter acre as well and have been interested in homesteading for a while now. We already do some of the things you mentioned like drying clothes on the line, wood cook stove, big garden. We even have enough space to grow a bunch of corn. We're also doing rain catchment for watering the garden. It's so fun and really gives us a sense of accomplishment.
I live on 1 and a half acre and I want a little hobby farm but my parents can’t afford a farm and we just finished building our house

I was raised with gardening and canning, sewing and dress making. These skills used to be in every household except the "very rich" in the inter mountain West. It makes me feel sad that my children didn't get this opportunity as I divorced and suddenly was a single parent either in University studies or later teaching school. We did can peaches during the summer though which my kids found disgusting. It was wonderful to have 3/4 acres, wood stove, fruit room which was a cool big pantry room in the basement. I felt so secure. The rasberry patch kept me busy picking and canning. The garden kept us in frozen corn, canned green beans, beets, squash, berries, chard and carrots. Irrigating day was swimming in the ditch day for my four little ones and lots of laundry and cleaning up mud everywhere. I miss those days but wouldn't trade my education for the world. It broadened my life and encouraged my children to move in the same direction. Education opens unbelievable doors and opportunities. Now though the old skills are going to be needed for survival. That and location. Head for the mountains if things get unsafe in the cities and farms. God bless America and it's families. Pray like crazy. That is what the Pilgrims did and they survived.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. What an amazing way to live life and teach your children valuable skills and hard work. I grew up in the suburbs and we had the tiniest of gardens, but I did learn to sew. I'm thankful to learn these other things later in life and able to share them with my children. They are so excited to grow our own food and really value good food.
We have been doing a ton of research, We have a half acre yard in Houston and since the spring we are raising, Chickens, ducks, quail and rabbits, A garden and are in the material collection phase of raising catfish and tilapia. Thank you for all the information you share on your channel. Been a lot of help.

I'm so glad I came across your channel. I feel like I can relate so much with you. I have a small city lot but it's amazing all the stuff you can grow if you add gardens where the sun is. Learning new skills is so much fun and rewarding. Oh and don't let that canned salsa deter you from canning. I've had trouble canning salsa too.

This sounds just like us. We are still in a big city in a little over a 1/4 acre. I was so excite when we moved as before we were in a little apt. You can definitely start even if its small. We have quail and chickens and a few pheasants with lots of plants and now some veggies. Such a great video thank you for sharing your experience. Look forward to learning from you guys.
We live in zone 9b in central Florida. I love being able to grow food in raised beds all year.

I 100% agree! We are starting our homestead on an half acre! I would love to have fruit trees!! Have you considered taking any of the trees out? Excited to follow along with you as well! All of your recipes look so good. I miss my CSA too!
That is awesome! We have take out one tree and I would love to take out more, but they are huge and would be very expensive. We are actually planning on buying a larger homestead in the nearish future.
I think the urban homesteading if gaining momentum, especially during this pandemic. My family's homestead is located on 1/8 of an acre, 10 minutes from downtown San Diego.
Yes, I totally agree. There was a surge of the "victory garden" this year with the pandemic. I hope this new trend sticks around. Nothing like growing our own food. That sounds like a lovely homestead.

I want to do bees , I’m extending my garden bed that was here when we moved in . I have had a water bath canner for three years still haven’t tried it I’m scared . I don’t know how to sew on a button but want to learn . We are starting to work on a budget and I’m in the simple living mindset now and decluttering !!! Now how to you get your “worldly children and husband” on board ? I’m homeschooling my youngest!!! He is on kindergarten! I went with a speed queen washer /dryer that a lot of homesteaders have !!!

Largely underestimating the amount food you consume in a year so this is more like a hobby HOWEVER I find those tips really valuable to adapt a more simple/sustainable/natural lifestyle even if you live in the city.
Did you start the bees? I've had an interest in bee keeping but I have 1/4 acre to work on
In an urban setting, would you recommend putting a couple beehives in a combined chicken and rabbit yard that is roughly 120m2 and has a 50m2 unused garage. Is it a good idea or all the poop and urine in their immediate "neighborhood" would make the bees ill?
HUNdAntae In an urban setting, the bees might be hurt by nearby pesticides, I don’t know if that would be a concern for you.
(I don’t know much about this subject, I’m just saying what I think.)
Bees are not interested in animal areas. They go out and forage in a 3 mile range around their hive. It's the pesticides that are an issue. We are in the suburbs just outside of Philadelphia and have not had a problem although their are some people within that area that have very manicured yards. So I don't actually know what they use. They keep bees on roof tops in urban settings. Read read read 🐝♥️

@@Hs-tu2sl I've been keeping my eyes peeled at the store whenever they have them. There is currently a nationwide shortage. So on a rare occasion I can find a box or two, I snatch them up. I've also been looking at thrift stores. My friend found 50 jars on FB marketplace for like $30 the other day. Weird times. Have to get creative.

1/2acre is a lot of land.
We only had 1/4 at the time. We used to only have 1/10 and we could grow a lot more then.

Agreed! Our quarter acre wasn't very useful since it was all shade and laid out oddly. We could grow more and do more on our previous lot that was only .10 of an acre.
