Lot of knowledge there mate , bit like that Dinky bedford Duple coach you thought was from The Italian Job .......the one that was worth 3 quid on a good day and completely unconnected.. Always a good idea to leave some things to those who've been at it in the real world for 45 years. Those Matchbox lots look like my 5 for a £1 box I keep under the table at fairs , cheers, hope the people who watch this will give me a tenner apiece now ;-).

"Off the trolley" valuations here I think. The 2016 Model Collector Price Guide values a mint and boxed Mustang at £60 - £125, and a mint and boxed Mercedes at £20 - £25. I couldn't see anything in this collection worth more than £5 - £10 and most are probably only worth a couple of quid. Still, you definitely can make money buying a collection and selling individually but you have to be realistic 👍

Loved Matchbox, Corgi and Majorette as a child. I loved the No. 5 Routemaster bus best of all. My mother worked at Matchbox in Abbey Wood and would bring me unpainted cars, or different colours. They were never my favourite preferring the solid wheel models of real cars of previous 75 series. Thanks for showing.

I nearly agree but restorers will pay £1-3 just for the original spares such as the window units which are easily damaged with heavy play. If I get them for less than 50p each in a job lot I consider I've done very well. The Ford Mustang in the video was only fit for restoration so max £3-4 as the screen and wheels looked reasonable, and it still had the tow hook on the rear.

I had an original Opel Diplomat in gold color (like yours). For 5,000 Pounds why not just re-paint it in sea-green ? I'll have to convert Pounds to Dollars because I live in Boston, MA. I had about 75 Matchbox Cars that I gave away to my nephew back in the 1980's.
The newer models produced in Asia are junk. Same thing with bicycles. As a child I owned a 1967 Raleigh Mountie single-speed. It was a great bike, very durable, gave it to my niece many years later. The new Raleighs are cheaply-made Asian junk. I guess modern companies only care about the profit margin and not about quality. Very sad.

Yeah I love these and collect them but I got into it because they were cheap to collect. Collectables have a moment in the sun when the people who had them back in the day hit their 30s and 40s and then get aged out. That time has been and gone for matchbox. Plus people collected them back in the day and they are incredibly well made so there are a lot of them in mint condition. I’ve bought mint condition in box superfast for less than the prices mentioned for the knocked up copies and I actually don’t want the box. You can get the ones from the 50s in great condition fairly easily.

@@DavidHarperAntiques The top price for an early Matchbox toy was the only known dump truck which sold for GBP10,000. Next up you have things like the small N0.5 bus in green which fetched around GBP 8-9000 (ps I turned it down at AUS$1500 and kicking myself) and several you comment on around anything between GBP1000 to 8000. These models are extremely rare, faked aplenty so you have to know your hobby and you are very unlikely to ever come across them in a junk lot, not that it doesn't happen because it has but basically like winning the lottery. The average price for even the earliest mint and boxed would be around the 100 mark. I only comment on those from the 1953 era onwards as the earlier toys like the soapbox racer and Coronation coach es are a whole different ball game.
