In 1984, there was a film called "Teachers", starring Nick Nolte. 38 Special did the title song ("Teacher, Teacher"). You guys are teachers, so... I think you see where I'm going. :) "Back Where You Belong" is also a banger, as is "Somebody Like You".
Filmed in my hometown, a few friends were extras. Here are a couple pictures how the building looks today; you can still see the School portion. www.fmsp.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/COSI_03-2877x1570.jpg cosi.org/images/about/bldg2.jpg
Caught up in you, Rockin into the Night. Wild Eyed Southern Boys. Fantasy Girl. Chain Lighning. You Keep Running Away. Back Where You Belong. 20th Century Fox.Somebody Like You, Like No Other Night, One In A Million. Hearts on Fire. Teacher, Teacher.
I truly believe that the band is just that damn good. I’ve not seen them live since the 80’s, but they freaking rocked back in the day. *THE* best concert I’ve ever attended.
Don Barnes is the lead singer in almost all of their songs. He sang Hold On Loosly. He and Donnie VanZant founded 38 Special. Don Barnes still sings lead in 38. I will be seeing them in May.
Van Zant sang lead on a lot of the early albums and then when they changed their sound to pop rock and enlisted the outside writer (from the band Survivor) Barnes took over.
Fantasy Girl!! Don Barnes sings most of the lead vocals. But Donnie can sing too! And Jeff Carlisi is one of the best guitar players around! Rough Housin' is another rocker with Don and Donnie sharing lead vocals.
Well, Don sang lead on most of their big hits, but Donnie sang on a lot of the lesser known ones. But Donnie was the lead singer on 2 of my favorites, Chain Lightnin' and Rockin' into the Night. What was cool is Donnie was known as the lead singer, but they had been friends for years, and Donnie insisted and encouraged Barnes to take the lead on several songs. That's what I've always liked about them, no egos
My fave song by them. Such a driving beat and "imperative" feeling to the chords and vocals. Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant took turns singing lead but Barnes sang lead on most of their big hits up until 1987 when he tried going solo. During that period they brought on Max Carl on keyboard and he sang lead on some big hits. Then Max left and Barnes rejoined in 1992, once again sharing leads with Van Zant. All three lead singers have great voices, with their own strengths and styles. While Barnes was solo he recorded an album that got caught up in legal issues and wasn't actually released until 2017. Currently, Barnes is the only original member still performing in the group.
Barnes sang lead on most of their songs. Donnie was the lead in their early years, but they didn't have a whole lot of commercial success back then. He's doing well with Lynyrd Skynyrd now.
Love so many 38 Special songs but this was one of the best videos they filmed. Expertly portrays the raw emotions of the lyrics. Takes me back to watching Friday Night Videos.
They have an awesome song called Teacher Teacher. It's a straight up rockin banger from start to finish. You'll both love it :). Much love from Canada!
I like their big, signature hits but this is easily my favorite 38 Special song. They had a lot of good tunes! Jay and Amber - I recommend Back to Paradise; Teacher, Teacher; Hold on Loosely; and Back Where You Belong.
.38 Special was the first concert I ever attended and I loved every moment. They always have a beloved place in my heart and I love everything by them!
I saw 38 special in a concert, get this, when I was in basic training in the Army...a long time ago. They were great. I still can't believe they took all of us new-bees to a concert.
In October 1977, Ronnie Van Zant was killed when Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashed. Donnie wrote "Take Me Back" as a tribute to his brother, which appeared on the band's second album, Special Delivery (March 1978), also produced by Hartman
There was 3 Van Zant brothers Ronnie which was the original lead singer for Lynyrd Skynyrd, Donnie in 38 Special and Johnny who had his own band for a while and is now the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd
Don Barnes is the lead singer on this one, not Donnie Van Zant. Great choice of video, folks! FUN FACT: the lady driving the car in the blue shirt eventually married Bruce Springsteen, but she was just a model/actress when this video was shot. I believe her name Is Julianne Phillips. She and Bruce were divorced after about 4-5 years of marriage.
38 Special - "Rockin' into the Night' is probably their hardest sounding song. Interesting Fact: 38 Special uses two drummers/ drum sets playing at the same time.
My personal favorite song by them is "Like No Other Night," which came out of the album after this one. The video is a fun contrast compared to this one as the studio marketing department got a hold of them, dressed them up a bit, changed their hair, etc. The new look fit in much better with the 80's MTV scene. I know I saw that video on MTV a lot more than I did any of their others.
This is my favorite 38 Special song. The lyrics are great and the music and just 38 Special. That is Don Barnes singing. He is the singer for almost all of 38 Special's music.
I fell in love with Julianne Phillips when she looked into the camera, devastated with a tear running down her cheek. I was 13 and these were new feelings to me. Combined with the absolutely rocking song, I became misty-eyed with nostalgia at 54
Love! Love! Love this song! I grew up hearing this as a teenager in the 80's. Really fell off my radar the last 20 or so years and I rediscovered it about 6 months ago. It's been in my Spotify playlist since. Thanks for listening to it!
This has always been my fav 38 Special song!!! One of my go to bands as an 80s teenager on a Saturday night...cruisin thru town with my friends in my '65 Mustang. My best friend had a Firebird...and us two gals used to tear it up on the weekends blasting our music. Most other girls loved the dressing up...shopping and such....not us....we were happy in our tight jeans...T-shirts....muscle cars and rockin' music. (We also got more attention from the guys that way....LOL!!!)
One of my favorite bands. This is original lead singer (Don Barnes) of their classics in their early 1980s heyday. The only time it was different was in 1988 for their big number one hit “Second Chance”. But this and “Caught Up In You” were from their heyday and that leaves songs like “Teacher Teacher”, “Rockin’ Into The Night”, “Like No Other Night”, and another one of my favorites “Back Where You Belong“.
These guys are amazing. Some of the best. I grew up in ‘70’s and ‘80’s! We had the best artist! Hard working and paid their dues! I love how you guys feel the music! It looks like Amber’s heart was breaking listening to this. I love you guys! So great to watch y’all enjoy my childhood!
Oh my where to begin. They have so many fabulous songs it's really hard to pick a favorite. This one is super great but so is second chance and my number one would have to be rocking into the night.
I’ve always enjoyed .38 Specials music. Saw them in concert when i was 17. Great show. You two cheer me up with your reactions. Wide range of music and its great seeing you guys reacting to music I grew up with. Thanks
.38 special had that great combo of gorgeous southern rock guitars and super-catchy pop melodies and hooks. this completes their trifecta of classic hits with "hold on loosely" and "caught up in you". fun fact: the model/actress that stars in this video is the 1st mrs. bruce springsteen, julianne phillips.
Thank you for choosing this song to react to. I have to go along with others and claim this as definitely my favorite .38 Special song. The instrumentation gets me moving every time. And Don Barnes vocals on this do something to me that I can't describe. Beautiful.
Wow!One of my all time favorite tracks off my absolute favorite album "Tour De Force" I wore out several copies!! I was really proud to be a part of the tour promos on this album
I'm so glad you finally got around to reacting to this song. I've waited along time. This is definitely one of my *"Top 5"* Favorite songs & MTV Video of all time. Its a song that really grabs me everytime I hear it play! 😉👍❤
That was the sixth 38 Special song you've done, and there are still more excellent ones. My personal favorites among those not yet done would be "Back Where You Belong" and "Somebody Like You".
My favorite .38 Special song. Don Barnes just has an undercurrent of anguish in his voice as he sings of lost love. You just don't get that much emotion in a song very often.
Don Barnes simply had the perfect voice for this band. He sang lead for most of their biggest hits(Hold On Loosely, Caught Up In You). Also, the girl in this video is Julianne Phillips, who was married to Bruce Springsteen from 85-89. The biggest gift of living in the 80's was just experiencing it...the biggest travesty was taking it all for granted! What i wouldn't give to be able to go back!!!
Thank you for this❣️ 38 Special is on my all time favorite list of memory makers! I just close my eyes and I'm right back there in some of my best memories!
Oh, one more thing: 38 Special was known for having two drummers during that time, which really helped them create a very deep bottom to theirs songs, along with the heavy bass.

38 Special - Great vocals, 4 guitars, two drummers, and all out southern R&R. What is not to love.
Great scenery with video, the original not the review
Omg I forgot about this one...love this song !!!!!!!
Chain Lightning, classic .38 Special.
I grew up listening to 38 Special so glad to be an 80's girl 👧 💗 💕 💓
In 1984, there was a film called "Teachers", starring Nick Nolte. 38 Special did the title song ("Teacher, Teacher"). You guys are teachers, so... I think you see where I'm going. :) "Back Where You Belong" is also a banger, as is "Somebody Like You".

Suggested Teachers on the video channel long time ago. Hope to see the reaction. Haven’t seen anyone else do it.

Saw 38 special in the early 80s. Was awesome.
I love sharing in a first time reaction. This one was just good pure rock.
This is my absolute favorite song by .38 Special. I crank it every time it comes on.

Me too, and sing at the top of my lungs

Man their music is always so well mixed and balanced. Just one of those bands who’s music never gets old.

My absolute favorite song by them
One cool thing about them is how lead guitarist Jeff Carlisi often times plays a scorching lead on the outro, as the song is fading out. I love that!
"Hold on loosely" is one of my favorite 38 Special tunes.
Don Barnes sang lead on most of the 1980s .38 Special hit songs, including this one. Such a great voice.
38 special is one of those bands you can listen to an album straight through and not be disappointed.
Your curiosity and passion for music give you genuine credibility.
Like no other night - 38 special. Love for you two to react to this great tune. Pretty sure both of you would enjoy it!!
This is my favorite from them!
Definitely this one!
from their last album with 2 drummers
I remember my brother had a t-shirt with this album's cover on it.
One of their very best songs! Side note - the actress featured in the video is Julianne Phillips who was married to Bruce Springsteen for a few years.
Stinker Bell!
This is my all time favorite 38 Special song, one with great personal meaning for me. Glad that you enjoyed it.
Mine too!!
Special meaning for me as well :)
This is my favorite 38 Special song....just fantastic
Don Barnes on lead vocals. The same vocalist on Hold On Loosely and many others.
