I am currently in the process of ordering parts each time I get a paycheck for a 26er build. I have my 1998 Barracuda XC URT frame that I bought and rode for 12 yrs. It going to be a "softtail" gravel bike with old moto-style Dia-compe brake levers, a thumb shifter, 1 x 7, Paul Cross Stop brake on the rear, Shimano canti's on the front, and a rigid fork.
This build was a huge inspiration for my Trek 820 resto mod, also bought 2nd hand without the original rigid fork After a long search I finally found a suitable threadless rigid fork off ebay, looking forward to see how it comes out
If you don't want to go with a QR binder bolt, I've had good luck with a short recessed nut from a rear road brake caliper and a short canti/v-brake mounting bolt. Makes for a clean look.
Great build and awesome fork. I still have a disc only aluminum fork for 26 inch wheel that needs a frame. But i have to find a nice light front disc wheel first. Today is the day I found out you are in Nova Scotia also. I'm near Hantsport myself but grew up in Halifax in the 80-90's. Cheers
Wondering about the axle to crown on the project two versus the one you had made custom?. Curious about those numbers. Building out a mid-90s Kona Found a project 2 for 40 with a2c of 395. Have a a tange fork laying around to try if that's not feeling good. I'm kind of thinking though, the answer is somewhere in the middle of the two.
That new fork is worth it because nothing renders a bike so outdated and somewhat useless as an old suspension fork. I'd go as far to say suspension forks are actually a consumable item.
I really like the looks of the bar setup. Would like to replicate it on my bike but I already put a riser stem on... Side note: It seems a few of us here get attached to your bikes.
i got a 930 with a sakae mts-101. very similar vibes. green purple with black fork, think it's a 95 I hate that cassette. worse.. I hate the front chainring combo with it.. slow. keeping mine 3x7 - 3x8
Bye bye Grouch. You will be missed but money is pretty cool too. Honestly it was my favorite but I totally understand thinning the heard, making room for new bike interests. Can’t keep them all.
Please consider: the annual fleet review should have an "In memoriam" segment for the Grouch and any other bikes you've sold in the past year.
@kccauldron6411 yes.
Noon grouch
A few tears were shed here for the Grouch;)... The Trek looks amazing!!
The Rockhopper with the blue riser bars was peak cool.
The Gran Turismo music at the beginning was 🔥 fire
💘💘💘💔🪦💀
Miss you grouch. You inspired my very own 90’s gravel bike build!!!!
I did the same
RIP Grouch. Way to bury that in the middle of this video. That bike was like two full years of content! 😂
I think that’s very cool of you to giveaway the bike to one of your watchers.
I look forward to when the entry website goes live
I’ve got a trek 6500 and this video inspired me to bring her back to life

It would be cool to hunt down once of those old fashioned spring powered dropper post attachments for a '90s bike like this.
Vale The Grouch, long may you roll with the wind at your back and the sunshine warm apon your stem 😔
the dude who bought it is super hyped on it!
What?!? You sold the grouch!
Thats awesome, love your bike builds. Please put a drop bar on a Norton now! Make a Monster Gravel!

Beautiful looking bike.
Such a good looking bike dude. Love it!
Wow! that set up came out awesome. Love it. I can relate to the 2 year build time.
I am happy with everything I now know about it. Thank you.
I had the Trek 8500 '98 - the best ride I've ever had ❤
We need the Spindatt tour... travel and ride and meet your fans and do tinkering abroad

I love the PlayStation Gran Turismo soundtrack lol
90's Marzocchi work great and are easy to rebuild. Thank you for reminding me in the first minute why I'm not subbed.
You sold Grouch, that breaks my heart I watch your channel cause of Grouch
I appreciate the patience that went into this build.
That Gran turismo soundtrack was a nice touch.
I still have my old 830 fork, but I had to try a surly troll fork and it is pretty cool but I should probably go back to the original
Clean built
Really like the Grips if you remember what they are please tell me/Us
Awesome. Worth the wait. Thanks!
Very very cool. How do the canti’s work with the V brake levers?

The TREK became a cool daily driver.

excuse me what? the grouch is gone?!? D:
I freaking love the gran turismo music
i will miss you grouch
If the chainline isn't correct have you had any issues with the chain dropping off the chainring in the easiest climbing gear?

Dude that intro song was menu music from gran tourismo 3 a:spec haha
What’s your brake hole mount cable hanger?
Needs a Hite-Rite
Vee levers with cantis? Surely feels like garbage.
Bike looks awesome though. Love the fork.

that is what we call a survivor
Sweet!
395mm 400mm or 440mm axle to crown?
395 is what I had built
What is the wheelset size? My bike is 26X1.95 wanted to change it and look more fat like this cuz l think it looks cool.
i got a 930 with a sakae mts-101. very similar vibes. green purple with black fork, think it's a 95
I hate that cassette. worse.. I hate the front chainring combo with it.. slow.
keeping mine 3x7 - 3x8
Was Grouch the same size frame?
It was a 20 inch

dude! my trek multitrak 750 is calling from the living room wall and wants to be this
Yeah an old bike at last!
What's the custom fork manufacturer's name (brand)?
Search for Altruiste bikes, they’re in Quebec 👍
@@arden0 Not exactly near me (🇨🇭). Merci quand-même...
Spindatt world tour?
2 years ago?? No way
I looked at Klein attitudes and my draw fell open. Spindatt warned me and I didn't listen
Paint fork wrinkle red please 🥊
Fuckin rad. I want it haha
The Fairdale idea is the superior idea for sure though
Bye bye Grouch !!!
"Friends " ??????
Dude, way to glaze over the fact that you just sold my favourite bike in your fleet. I hope you did a last ride or final video
Wait, you sold the specialized?!?!!?
Well that's it, I'm unsubscribing...
(I'm not unsubscribing).
