    I agree with the folks below -- you are definitely a great rider -- much better than me -- so you should give your opinion on the F850GS because I know you have lots to offer. I ride a R1200GSA and when I take it off-road as I did on my last trip in January -- April, 2018 through South America, I found it heavy when taken off the comfy pavement and it was sloppy with mud and heavy gravel. I guarantee you would be a great rider on a R1200GSA off-road. I am now going on a 25,000 km ride though North Europe and Asia this coming summer, 2019. I am seriously thinking of getting a F850GS because it is that much lighter. What do you think? Again, I am an average-decent rider but not in your category.

    • @Urkain87
      @Urkain87  5 років тому +2

      I love the R1200GS and GSA, Its the best allround bike, and in 90% of the time better than the F850GS. What impressed me most with the F850GS is how close it gets to the R1200GS. Especially considering the price.
      F850GS does the really rough stuff better than n the 1200. Keep your 1200 and go for an offroad/gravel riding course i. e. BMW offroad school or touratech offroad school. It will give you inspiration and lots of confidence :)

    • @abcusa123mich
      @abcusa123mich 5 років тому +1

      Last year I switched from an F800GS to a R1200GS and I think with the extra low speed torque and lower center of gravity that the 1200 is actually easier off road for my type of old guy low speed stuff. But I just had a quick test drive of the new 850 and at least on a short pavement run felt a lot better than the earlier 800. I don't have an interest in moving to the 850 but it definitely worth looking at.

    what are your thoughts s?
    its not released here in India yet .. but when it does I'm booking it .. I had the old 650 parallel twin ..thinking of this instead of the 1200 gs base version ..

    • @Urkain87
      @Urkain87  5 років тому

      Its gooood, especially if you want something made for gravel roads!

    • @sidkarnick
      @sidkarnick 5 років тому

      honestly .. my riding would be around 70-30 road to off road .. because to get to the trails I need to cover a lot of distance ..
      which is why I want an adventure tourer .. its between this or the Africa twin , I've ridden the AT ..ITS A GREAT BIKE .. but I still want to enjoy the gears till I go DCT .. I love the specs and the quick shifter and slipper clutch package offered on this bike .. is the power enough on road? my sweet spot would be between 80 to 120 ..dont intends on going above that for too long .. Indian roads can be quite unpredictable.. \
      How are the brakes off road?
      does the 21 front really compromise on the cornering or is it just something you get used to .. this would be the only bike I own so since I won't be used to a street bikes cornering capabilities . I would think it would be flickable , since I would have nothing to compare it with ..
      sorry for all the questions . . but imv ery keen on this bike .. and they haven't launched it here yet..frustrating the wait

    • @Urkain87
      @Urkain87  5 років тому

      @@sidkarnick Me personally preferred the BMW over the Africa Twin. The BMW feels more nimble. The power is about the same. Comfort seems better on the AT. Equipment is not even comparable, the BMW is far ahead. Traction-Controll on the AT is useless offroad, but the engine is Honda, so thats pretty flat and predictable. BMW has a bit more exciting engine, not necessarily better. 21" is just something to get used to, at the relatively low speeds you will be doing its just fine. It gives better comfort on bad roads.

    • @sidkarnick
      @sidkarnick 5 років тому

      fantastic .. thank you for your answers and your prompt reply .. 3 more questions pls .. hows the clutch lever ?..is it relatively light .. with old 650 had a heavier one so in traffic ( and Mumbai has ALOT of it) my palm would get a little stiff .. I hear in the new 850 they've paid special attention to it and made it lighter .. and the brake lever , they have an adjustment so that when you are standing and riding makes it easier to break? does it work ?
      Im 5 feet 11 inches tall .. would I need to put handle bar risers?
      I'm sorry , I know these questions will be answered once I see the bike .. but they say here it won't be available till end of the year..and BMW India isn't reliable when it comes to their promises of launch dates .. so like an excited child I'm frustrated when I can't get the candy I really want .

    • @Urkain87
      @Urkain87  5 років тому +2

      @@sidkarnick It has a slipper-clutch, so its very light!
      The bike itself is not superlight, but it feels light and nimble because of the chassis and setup. Much lighter than the AT for example.
      Not shure if you would need risers, i think it would be better to bring a tool for tilting the bars for on/offroad riding.
      Haha, all men are like kids when they see something they really want 😂

      Dynamic ESA in the front, cardang and telelever.
      1250 is better for touring, 850 is better for "extreme" offroad.
