A 20-something Tuomas (pron: TOO-oh-Moss) , when asked the question, "If you knew you would die tomorrow, what would you say, today, to loved ones and foes?"
This song clearly effects the band as much as it does us. Emppu is so solemn when he plays the solo, and that's not something that you see from him very much. That line "And you, I wish I didn't feel for you anymore" gets me every time.
Background things Swan on the screen: In Finnish mythology and folklore, the swan was the divine messenger between the living and the dead. Tuonelan Joutsen (Swan of Tuonela) carries the dead to afterlife. Tuomas composed this when he was 22 years old. This from their book, timeline year 2000: ------------------------ Besides the choir, the album featured some other guest artists, Ike Vil of Babylon Whores contributed some deranged self-inspection for 'The Kinslayer', and 'Dead Boy's Poem' featured a child's voice. "I had an idea of a song with a young boy reciting a poem", Tuomas says. "The trouble was that no Finnish 12-year-old could pronounce English so that it sounded right, so I had to find a native speaker to do it. My mother's sister, actress Miitta Sorvali, knew (the English-Finnish director and writer) Neil Hardwick well, and my mom remembered that Neil had a son called Sam. I called him and asked him to do the poem, and Sam agreed right away. It was just funny that when I talked to this 15-year-old boy, he seemed like such a citizen of the world and was actually familiar with our band, too. Sam said he'd be free to record the poem anytime; I'd just have to give him a call. He even knew where Finnvox was and promised to meet us there." The professionalism of young Sam Hardwick made a deep impression on Tuomas. "When he arrived at the studio, I had to ask him to wait for ten minutes or so, and he just pulled a book from his pocket and sat down to read", Tuomas says. "I gave him the poem, and he read it through a few times. We did some editing, and Sam just sat down on the studio floor and read his book, after which I asked him to read the poem a couple of more times." "When I started talking about his reward, he wouldn't hear anything about it. He just said "It's okay, it was fun". I insisted on giving him at least a couple of hundred marks, and then he left. A very puzzling young man, but a real pro and a very nice person. He later did the beginning of 'Bless the Child', too, and once again, everything worked like a charm. 'Dead Boy's Poem' continues to be a sort of a signature song for Nightwish, and after 'Wishmaster' came out, the song was voted on our web site as the best Nightwish song ever. There's certainly something about it that defines us, and - for me at least - the poem is the absolute high point of the song. So Sam Hardwick made a big contribution to our music." For Tuomas, 'Dead Boys Poem' is a deeply personal song. "The idea for that song came to me when I was thinking that if I die tomorrow, what kind of a message do I want to leave behind", Tuomas explains. "That song is all about apologizing, about saying thank you to those who deserve it - and likewise telling those who deserve it to fu*k off. It's kind of a testament. I had to make a song like that, just in case I happened to die tomorrow. A Finnish man rarely thanks anyone, or says he's sorry, but for me at least, it was possible through music." "I still live at my mom and dad's, who are the best people in the world, but I've never been able to tell them what I think about them", Tuomas confesses. "Maybe if they listen to the song and read the lyrics, they'll understand that it's partly about them, too. It's also about my best friends and Nightwish, the band that has come to be a significant - if not the most significant - part of myself in the course of years. My band mates are really important to me, but it's hard for me as a Finnish man to show my feelings. I'd rather write a song like 'Dead Boy's Poem' and ask them to listen to the words, because I just can't say it out loud. It's such a personal song, and I think it has the best lyrics I've ever been able to write. Musically, it's really good, too, definetely the best song on 'Wishmaster' - maybe the best Nightwish song ever." It had not gone unnoticed by Tarja (1st lead singer) that Tuomas expressed his feelings through music. "The melodic power of music - and the fact that music can be beautiful even at its heaviest - has always meant an awful lot to Tuomas", Tarja says. "He's able to show all his feelings in his music. I think Tuomas is very brave, because not many people can do the same. He may not look like a macho man, but when it comes to music, It's all or nothing for him."
Buenos Aires 2018 one of my many favourite Nightwish live music masterclasses where Floor breathed new life in to a number of Nightwish classics that pre-date her time with the band. Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece. 🙏🙂👍❤️
One of the most perfect songs in their catalog, IMO. Everything gels so seamlessly. And, Floor! I don't know what to say. She is really the consumate performer. Others have noted how much this song means to the band. Even Emppo doesn't smile while he is playing, and that is very, very rare for him. It's almost like the rest of the band wants to make sure things go well, because that is the way that they can best honor Tuomas.
I think "honor" is a bit grandiloquent word for finnish style. The finnish way might be: Just be there, silently gathering around the one who's hurt. In unison, as sparkle wards*, keeping him safe so that he can go through what he has to go through. *(dunno if there's an english word for kipinävahti - that's the one who keeps an eye to the fire so that the others can sleep)
I read that somebody wrote that 7 Days to the Wolves was a secret weapon for Nightwish. I agree. This is also a secret weapon. In my top 3. So much emotion.
Hey My Dude, Great Review by you again, our Honorary Fellow Nightwish Army Member, What can one say about this Truly Amazing Band of People. Thank You, see at the your Next Live Stream 👍
'the sweet piano writing down my life' gets me every time. We can discuss Tuomas...his genius in composition, structure and lyrics but what sets this band apart from others (for me) is the emotional intelligence they bring. Then add Floor...she doesn't just 'sing' she becomes the song and her interpretation of the music draws you in and compels you to feel...whether you want to or not. Really enjoying your journey with this band. We enjoy watching others fall in love with our favourite band 😊
This is always in my top favorites of NW songs.. "..and you, I wish I didn't feel for you anymore" just breaks me Every TIME! Everyone in the band shows respect in this performance, because they know.. this IS Tuomas, this is his soul, a lonely soul, an ocean soul. Great reaction man, you got a glimpse of another side of NW. How many sides are there of NW? The answer is yes. 😊 Midwest hug and vibes to you Cosmic. ✌️
I commented before that your favorite Nightwish song is the last one you heard. You may be ready for The Greatest Show on Earth, truly a tour de force.
For one band to create so many great yet different sounding songs demonstrates why they have such a devoted fan base. Why we never hear them on the radio in the UK is a crime.
Pure emotion-symphonic metal in all its glory and beauty. Floor is the best female vocalist in metal-Floorgasm is THE REAL DEAL. This band is amazing beyond words.
If ever a song proved they always had that magic this is it, this is from their 3rd album almost 25 years ago, Dead Boys Poem is so powerful with Floor singing, and live it is pure magic
may we call this a metal power ballad? All the elements I love in the music of Nightwish are there, and the guitar solo by Emppu is the cherry on the cake.
The first time I heard this song, the line "And you....I wish I didn't feel for you anymore" had me crying like a baby. Nightwish draws out emotions I didn't even knew I had.
This is a very emotional and personal song for Tuomas. It is a hypothetical situation created by Tuomas. The small child's voice represents Tuomas inner child speaking. When asked what this song was about "Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him..." Notice the small boy on the screen reaching out to the flying swans on the screen. He is reaching out to implore them to take him with to the other side. In archaeological excavations done in Karelia, a child was found and its body was laying upon a wing of a swan. In Finnish mythology and folklore, the swan was the divine messenger between the living and the dead. When a swan dropped its head below the surface, people of old times believed that it was communicating to the spirit world. Killing swans was a terrible crime because it was as bad as murdering a human. Punishments for killing swans were severe, the usual penalty was death. Swan song often symbolizes an artist´s last performance but for a long time all across the world all the way to the 17th century it was believed that swans only sang when they died. A beautiful song filled with sadness from an unfulfilled destiny. Here are the spoken words from Dead Boy's Poem. "If you read this line Remember not the hand that wrote it Remember only the verse Songmaker's cry, the one without tears For I've given this its strength And it has become my only strength Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality Where being wanted became a thrill I never knew The sweet piano writing down my life" "Teach me passion, for I fear it's gone Show me love, hold the lorn So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me I 'm sorry Time will tell, this bitter farewell I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you And you I wish I didn't feel for you anymore" A lonely soul An ocean soul
This was such an emotional and beautiful performance by every member of the band. And what a masterpiece from our Tuomas Holopainen. Floor's voice so beautiful. The more you get to see of Kai... the better you realize what a great drummer he is. Loved it and thank you for this reaction.
This is why Nightwish gets right inside your soul..Tuomas is a poet..every sentence has meaning and to have Floor and the rest of these amazing musicians bring the poetry into another dimension is mindblowing. Tuomas, his wife Johanna and Troy also have a side project together called Auri.. Another musical bow to their talent! Stay well..and l like hearing the ' mushy stuff' not enough in the world lately! 🤗
Tuomas' self-written eulogy. Note even Emppu kept a serious face during his solo..... and this was written before TPATP! also, this was the gig where, half an hour before the start, Floor could barely stand without assistance due to a cold/flu! - a handful of Troy's pills and a few minutes into the first song......!!! The show must go on! And it DID!
I think it was the gig before this one she was really sick with a flu, but she still wasn't fully recovered here. Crazy to think of when you hear her hit those notes like it's nothing!
Did Floor just kill me with that last note leaving me sitting on my desk sobbing? definitely.. (and i've heard this 100 times before) The whole song is a masterpiece, but omg Floor what kind of magic is your voice, there's no way to withstand it...
I don't know if Marco is crying, it's kinda hard to see. Emppu on the other hand seems to be on the verge of tears after his guitar solo. Tuomas is an ocean soul, and his soul pours out of him like a turquoise waterfall (guess the song) whenever he writes music.
A song more than 20 years old, but a new adaptation (three people have left the original performance and 4 have taken their place). I love this 2018 version! The original was already good, this one is even more touching. Tuomas has been a master composer and lyricist right from the moment Nightwish was founded. I hope with all my heart that he will continue to have the financial freedom to make the kind of music he wants. Because..., after all, we win in it !!! Every time you see the words Dead Boy, Oceansoul, Oceanborn in the lyrics, there is a big chance that Tuomas is writing about himself!
Second one of your videos I have watched and I appreciate your honesty and the style of the video. You rock. I'm a well earned subscriber now! I've been around 60 yrs. and the sound that comes from Floor is one of the most perfect voices ever; she is easily on level with Ann Wilson, Annie Lennox and Stevie Nicks. Love them all, and again, thank you for your effort.
Great reaction as usual. What I like about you Cosmic is that you see past the obvious. Everybody raves about Floor’s vocals in this one, as well they should because they are awesome. But, you notice little things like Troy’s driving acoustic rhythm and Kai’s immaculate drumming. They add to the overall sound in an important way. This song is an amazing emotional rollercoaster.
Great reaction. One of my top 5 Nightwish songs. One of the more personal songs for Tuomas and the fans. An old song written by Tuomas when he was young. Inspired by the question what would you say if you knew you were going to die tomorrow. Tuomas has said this song was a way of thanking all those who deserve his thanks and a piss off to all those who deserve it as well. Tuomas often uses the dead boy as a symbol of the loss of childhood innocence and imagination that we experience as we grow into adulthood. When you hear dead boy or poet in his lyrics he is usually referring to himself. He also has a strong connection to the ocean and sees it as a place of peace and tranquility. A refugee from the modern world. So in this song Tuomas is saying that he no longer lives for himself or his friends but only for the music. He puts all his feelings into the music and his music is what gives his life meaning. He tries to make his life better but can never get back to the innocence of his youth. He wants to be loved but can't connect with people. He asks that they remember his music, not him, after he is gone. Thus a lonely soul, an ocean soul. Note that on the video wall behind the band the boy is holding up his arms to several swans. In Finnish mythology swans are the creatures that guide your soul to the afterlife.
6:15 That gawddamn pick scrape! First popularised by Gojira, now every metal band uses it... Tuomas wrote this song when he was 22. Just for the hell of it, here is one of the songs Floor wrote when she was the same age: ua-cam.com/video/JuO53UMMElc/v-deo.html 🤘
The masterpiece, always my #1. So many great Nightwish songs reacted to, so many more to go ❤️ I recommend also going for some Tarja versions from End of an Era Helsinki concert. Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan if nothing else.
Awe you leave the most kindest comments for us all that's cool. My journey into Metal as a boy was to escape the violence and other bad things happening at home all my friends where raised in such family's and we felt both lost and unloved. So we discovered love and built our own paths except the few of us that never made it. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for another brilliant reaction! There is always meaningfull lyrics in Nightwish songs. Tuomas thinks very carefully the message he wrotes in his music. They are also very much of his own experiences.
My friend this one it's one of my favorites, everything is on point Floor's story telling uff, Kay Marko, Troy Tuomas and of course the little wonder Emmpu talking about the evil 😂 this song it's the only one who Emmpu don't smile, do you note that? My friend sending love and hugs to you C U SOON 🤘💀🇨🇷
"Never sigh for better world. It´s alreadt composed, played and told. Every thought, the music I write. Everhing I wish for the night" If that´s not poetry, I don´t know what is.
Any one who doesn`t tear up at this song isn`t human. I even tear up at their harder song`s. This band is in my opinion the best in the world, sad they are not more popular in the US. Kudo`s to you for knowing their name`s!!
New subscriber here! Just discovered your channel this morning and have already watched all your Nightwish reactions and many others. Thank you for the positivity and good vibes. Love from Spain!
I love how much love you always give Kai. He's amazing and I love Jukka N too but I feel like everyone is always like 'kai is good but we love Jukka more' and I'm just happy he's getting some love too. Magnificent song this. Floor is just out of this world.
Nice reaction dude. I got a couple of songs to recommend from the band called Shadow of Intent like "The prelude to bereavement", "the horror within", "malediction", "From Ruin... We Rise" and "the migrant"
This have to be my favourite Floor version of an early Tarja era song, everything in this live is just amazingly well performed and in harmony to rival the original (imho, usually Floor starts to rival/dominate over the originals starting from the next album 'Once' and onwards) I'd never noticed that possible tearing up of Marko, it kinda does look a bit like he is tearing up there, and continues to seemingly wipe that cheek a couple of times. If he was, who could blame him, I'm kinda surprised Tuomas can perform this song without tearing up
My favorite Nightwish song, sooo beautiful and touching❣️ If only my heart had a home…… 🥹 And Floor’s stage presence is so subtle and mega powerful! ❤ It’s Tuomas’ message he wanted to leave to the world whenever
I usually never comment on reaction channels but i really like you. I want to suggest a nightwish song called pharao sails to Orion, album version. Its my personal favorite from nightwish and probably one of the most unique songs ive ever heard.
One of the most deeply personal songs Tuomas has written, I thought it would be the type of song to kinda fade out of view once Tarja was gone, but the Decades tour brought so many older tracks like this to a brand new refresh thanks to Floor's incredible abilities as a storyteller 💜 Also, you mentioning "who says Kai doesn't show emotion!" I figured I'd mention some backstory that yes, a lot of fans did view him as a bit "robotic" once he took over for Jukka. This was misplaced, naturally - Jukka had a very specific style (as do most drummers), and he personally picked Kai out as someone who would be a great replacement. Kai put a huge focus on emulating Jukka's style as best as possible, which takes a lot of focus - that's where the "robotic" complaints came from, without those same people realizing how much work Kai was putting in to keep Jukka's style still alive.
Always makes me cry 😊. Now it is maybe a good time to check out two emotional ballads with Simone. 1st Apocalyptica feat Simone Simons " Rise again" live and 2nd Epica feat Apocalyptica "Rivers" live AFAG. ❤😊
oh and i forgot. I got a few songs I recommend for future reactions. AT THE GATES - To Drink From The Night Itself and Avatar - Smells Like a Freakshow.
@@howlandgrowl Nah, Yannis does a pretty good job covering the song considering he's male and even Scardust have a pretty good cover of it. They do not and can not beat Tarja or Floor but they are still solid listens.
@@ZParker619 Have only listened to this once, and couldn't even get all the way thru to the end, it sounds to me like someone's squeezing 'em. Sometimes you get a wicked cover of a song, just like high hopes, but I'm afraid this is just sacrilege, they should bring back the stocks for anyone who murders a song like this.
If you want to really feel something by listening to a song, try this: ua-cam.com/video/KdIhq1tb8Co/v-deo.html. I have seen almost all your Floor Jansen videos now and I am sure you will be moved by this girl's story (it is at the beginning and is a prelude to what is the song about) and will be in even more thrills when you hear her singing.
Your commentators have explained it all well, Tuomas' self-written epitaph. We have told you before of Tuomas' pseudonyms, "boy" especially. I don't think it has been mentioned so far, but he has slightly modified two apt quotes from Shakespeare in this: Sonnet 71 - synopsis: the poet [poet = Tuomas pseudonym] addresses his own death and its effect on the beloved, he here urges the beloved to forget him once he is gone, the line in full: "Nay, if you read this line, remember not the hand that writ it". Sonnet 72 - synopsis: this sonnet explains that the beloved can defend loving the poet only by speaking falsely, by giving the poet more credit than he deserves. The beloved is urged instead to forget the poet once he is dead; the line in full: "And live no more to shame nor me nor you." I think you can safely assume that Tuomas is extremely well read. To quote another respected and competent reactor: "The last two minutes of this song deserves to be in a museum."
So now you know why I keep mentioning this one, and why it's in my top 4. Also you may be starting to see why this is my favourite concert, above Wacken. Here are notes and also comments from the band: Tuomas: "Dead Boy's Poem' featured a child's voice. "I had an idea of a song with a young boy boy reciting reciting a poem", Tuomas says. "The trouble was that no Finnish so I had to find a 12-year-old could pronounce English so that it sounded right, so I had to find a native speaker to do it. My mother's Sister, actress Miitta Sorvali, knew [the English-Finnish director and writer] Neil Hardwick well, and my mum remembered that Neil had a son called Sam. I called him and asked him to do the poem, and Sam agreed right away. It was just funny that when I talked to this 15-year-old boy he seemed like such a citizen of the worldand was actually familiar with our band too. Sam sa is d he'd be free to record the poem anytime; I'd just have to give him a call. He even knew where Finnvox was and promised to meet us there. The professionalism of young Sam Hardwick made a deep impression on Tuomas. "When he arrived at the studio, had to ask him to wait for ten minutes or so and he just pulled a book from his pocket and sat down to read". Tuomas says, " I gave him the poem, and he read it through a few times. We did some editing and Sam just sat down on the studio floor and read his book, after which I asked him to read the poem a couple of more times."
My early favorite, along with the whole "Wishmaster" album... The idea of a child dying within us as we grow into the "sober" adult life is just one of the themes, revolving around artistry and concealed love. A great "building" song, easier than "The Poet and the Pendulum" (it had not gotten to those lengths) but along the similar lines of music being the vehicle of the spirit. Btw, the original, darker version with the first vocalist Tarja is still probably my preference. Listen and compare.
Hey, another great reaction! The next Nightwish song you should react to is "I Want my Tears Back" (Live at Buenos Aires). And also, please react to Draconian "The Sethian" Official Video, you won't regret it!
"and he doesn't realize that he created it " I think it is the opposite. As far as I know Tuomas, it is far more likely he revisits that moment in time when he wrote this song. And especially the emotions he felt, back when he was this 22 year musician, who felt his success cut his childhood short. And now he is stuck with all those expectations (produce even more awesome songs, run a multi-million dollar business, go on tour, be a band leader) Expectations that are hard to live up to. And the worst is: he cannot complain about it, because he got exactly what he wished for, he is living his dream.
When you get a chance check out Sabaton, they are a Swedish Metal group that sings of military history (mostly) with out taking sides, political or moral, they are soldier centrist and tell the tales that all should remember about sacrifice, heroism, history. Oh and Floor's husband is the current drummer. Even the covers are excellent from bands: Here is a uncomplete list of the bands songs: Much like Nightwish, Sabaton has NO bad music. One of the few song Emmpu doesn't smile and joke around in.
This song is at once humble and grand - and Floor - she is a Goddess in human form.
A 20-something Tuomas (pron: TOO-oh-Moss) , when asked the question, "If you knew you would die tomorrow, what would you say, today, to loved ones and foes?"
This is Nightwish! This is it, at its best... Heart and soul. My favorite...
Floors singing those long notes at the end makes every hair on my body stand up.
Same.. so good.
Ditto! EVERY. DAMN. TIME.
Yep, goosebumps on my goosebumps
This song clearly effects the band as much as it does us. Emppu is so solemn when he plays the solo, and that's not something that you see from him very much. That line "And you, I wish I didn't feel for you anymore" gets me every time.
Background things
Swan on the screen: In Finnish mythology and folklore, the swan was the divine messenger between the living and the dead. Tuonelan Joutsen (Swan of Tuonela) carries the dead to afterlife.
Tuomas composed this when he was 22 years old. This from their book, timeline year 2000:
------------------------
Besides the choir, the album featured some other guest artists, Ike Vil of Babylon Whores contributed some deranged self-inspection for 'The Kinslayer', and 'Dead Boy's Poem' featured a child's voice. He even knew where Finnvox was and promised to meet us there."
The professionalism of young Sam Hardwick made a deep impression on Tuomas. "When he arrived at the studio, I had to ask him to wait for ten minutes or so, and he just pulled a book from his pocket and sat down to read", Tuomas says. "I gave him the poem, and he read it through a few times. We did some editing, and Sam just sat down on the studio floor and read his book, after which I asked him to read the poem a couple of more times."
"When I started talking about his reward, he wouldn't hear anything about it. So Sam Hardwick made a big contribution to our music."
For Tuomas, 'Dead Boys Poem' is a deeply personal song. A Finnish man rarely thanks anyone, or says he's sorry, but for me at least, it was possible through music."
"I still live at my mom and dad's, who are the best people in the world, but I've never been able to tell them what I think about them", Tuomas confesses. Musically, it's really good, too, definetely the best song on 'Wishmaster' - maybe the best Nightwish song ever."
It had not gone unnoticed by Tarja (1st lead singer) that Tuomas expressed his feelings through music.
I've grown to just appreciate Tuomas so much! Hes sooo genuine and real
hey Valtte 🐕
“Never sigh for a better world, it’s already composed, played and told.”
Buenos Aires 2018 one of my many favourite Nightwish live music masterclasses where Floor breathed new life in to a number of Nightwish classics that pre-date her time with the band. Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece. 🙏🙂👍❤️
One of the few times you will see a somber Emppu...
I always think about during this song
One of the most perfect songs in their catalog, IMO. Everything gels so seamlessly. And, Floor! I don't know what to say. She is really the consumate performer. Others have noted how much this song means to the band. Even Emppo doesn't smile while he is playing, and that is very, very rare for him. It's almost like the rest of the band wants to make sure things go well, because that is the way that they can best honor Tuomas.
it was such a beautiful song!
I concur
I think "honor" is a bit grandiloquent word for finnish style. The finnish way might be: Just be there, silently gathering around the one who's hurt. In unison, as sparkle wards*, keeping him safe so that he can go through what he has to go through.
*(dunno if there's an english word for kipinävahti - that's the one who keeps an eye to the fire so that the others can sleep)
@@sateentuoksu Yes, I like that interpretation much better. Thanks.
I read that somebody wrote that 7 Days to the Wolves was a secret weapon for Nightwish. I agree. This is also a secret weapon. In my top 3. So much emotion.
Thank you for all your reactions emotions and feelings. There is still "The Greatest show on earth"
Also,,one of my favorite solos from Emmpu,,,so much emotion.
He's always fantastic at reprising the vocal line- emotion and all. Love this one...

One of my favorite songs
'the sweet piano writing down my life' gets me every time. We can discuss Tuomas...his genius in composition, structure and lyrics but what sets this band apart from others (for me) is the emotional intelligence they bring. Then add Floor...she doesn't just 'sing' she becomes the song and her interpretation of the music draws you in and compels you to feel...whether you want to or not. Really enjoying your journey with this band. We enjoy watching others fall in love with our favourite band 😊
I concur.
Absolutely true..
A frickin' masterpiece
Pure emotion-symphonic metal in all its glory and beauty. Floor is the best female vocalist in metal-Floorgasm is THE REAL DEAL. This band is amazing beyond words.
Floor is very expressive singer, she can capture emotions and her voice touches the heart and soul, just like Thuomas' music and lyrics.
If ever a song proved they always had that magic this is it, this is from their 3rd album almost 25 years ago, Dead Boys Poem is so powerful with Floor singing, and live it is pure magic
may we call this a metal power ballad? All the elements I love in the music of Nightwish are there, and the guitar solo by Emppu is the cherry on the cake.
im with you
The first time I heard this song, the line "And you....I wish I didn't feel for you anymore" had me crying like a baby. Nightwish draws out emotions I didn't even knew I had.
Right! I felt that lyric
Hope you are having a great night!
just at the old work! Hope you are well!
This is a very emotional and personal song for Tuomas. It is a hypothetical situation created by Tuomas.
The small child's voice represents Tuomas inner child speaking.
When asked what this song was about "Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him..."
Notice the small boy on the screen reaching out to the flying swans on the screen.
"If you read this line
Remember not the hand that wrote it
Remember only the verse
Songmaker's cry, the one without tears
For I've given this its strength
And it has become my only strength
Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality
Where being wanted became a thrill I never knew
The sweet piano writing down my life"
"Teach me passion, for I fear it's gone
Show me love, hold the lorn
So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me I
'm sorry
Time will tell, this bitter farewell
I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you
And you I wish I didn't feel for you anymore"
A lonely soul
An ocean soul
This was such an emotional and beautiful performance by every member of the band. And what a masterpiece from our Tuomas Holopainen. Floor's voice so beautiful. The more you get to see of Kai... the better you realize what a great drummer he is. Loved it and thank you for this reaction.
Song, composition, band, musicianship, performance, staging, lighting, venue, crowd, everything, just sheer perfection.
Auri is awesome.
It was in Bogata. Look to Floors own reaction of GLS.🤗
Of all my favourite Nightwish songs/performances, this is my no. 1. When things go south, this is what helps me 🤘🏻🖤
This is Tuomas's eulogy in a song form
Did Floor just kill me with that last note leaving me sitting on my desk sobbing? definitely.. (and i've heard this 100 times before) The whole song is a masterpiece, but omg Floor what kind of magic is your voice, there's no way to withstand it...
Cheers!!!!
Nightwish Army south Brittany France reporting.
A beautiful emotional song, Emppu's expression chokes me.
Thank you 😊
Dead Boy's Poem! 💙
This was an emotional ride!
So much happened in there which words can't describe
This Song broke my heart 💔
God this song....😢😢😢 every time, so sad, beautiful but wonderful music ❤❤
I don't know if Marco is crying, it's kinda hard to see. Emppu on the other hand seems to be on the verge of tears after his guitar solo. Tuomas is an ocean soul, and his soul pours out of him like a turquoise waterfall (guess the song) whenever he writes music.
One of my favorite performances by them.
I freakin love you Pom! I appreciate your kind words always!
Love this song only guitar solo that has ever made me cry, love this band tuomas holopainen greatest song writer ever God bless
A performance like this comes once in a lifetime....My all time favorite song
Another excellent performance, and great reaction thank you 😊🇬🇧
Much love!!!
Floor always looks so stunning. Her outfits and her charisma alone are amazing. Such a great front-woman
this song gives me goosebumbs its a personal song for tuomas it discribes his state of mind in this song
Love this one. My favorite little Emppu solo.
6:15 That gawddamn pick scrape! First popularised by Gojira, now every metal band uses it...
Tuomas wrote this song when he was 22. Just for the hell of it, here is one of the songs Floor wrote when she was the same age: ua-cam.com/video/JuO53UMMElc/v-deo.html

It is superb. Perfect sentiment.
The masterpiece, always my #1. So many great Nightwish songs reacted to, so many more to go ❤️ I recommend also going for some Tarja versions from End of an Era Helsinki concert. Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan if nothing else.
This is one of the most incredible songs ever performed on a metal concert - Floor is unique ❤
Awe you leave the most kindest comments for us all that's cool. My journey into Metal as a boy was to escape the violence and other bad things happening at home all my friends where raised in such family's and we felt both lost and unloved. So we discovered love and built our own paths except the few of us that never made it. Keep up the great work.
much love Jason! Keep being awesome dude, thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself
Epic song! Floor is magical and Tuomas is a genius! The band is excellent as well!🤘🎸
Thanks for another brilliant reaction! There is always meaningfull lyrics in Nightwish songs. Tuomas thinks very carefully the message he wrotes in his music. They are also very much of his own experiences.
They are soooo good!
Feeling that hug in Chicago bro. Love you too Cosmic, you put a smile on my face 🤘🥂
Thank YOU for this reaction!! I 🖤 this song so much.
Sooooo good
for me personally is my N1 song of them, it speaks through my soul.. !

Magical.i love that song. Thanks bro. Happy to see you. Greeting from Greece.
You are also great Cosmic, thank you! 🤘
Thanks dude! So are you.
My favorite song.
My friend this one it's one of my favorites, everything is on point Floor's story telling uff, Kay Marko, Troy Tuomas and of course the little wonder Emmpu talking about the evil 😂 this song it's the only one who Emmpu don't smile, do you note that?

"Never sigh for better world. It´s alreadt composed, played and told. Every thought, the music I write. Everhing I wish for the night"
If that´s not poetry, I don´t know what is.
Floor is everything!
This performance and song could be my favourite, so emotional and never fails to put a tear in the eye. Fantastic stuff.
Any one who doesn`t tear up at this song isn`t human. I even tear up at their harder song`s. This band is in my opinion the best in the world, sad they are not more popular in the US. Kudo`s to you for knowing their name`s!!
This is a Nightwish classic :-)
New subscriber here! Just discovered your channel this morning and have already watched all your Nightwish reactions and many others. Thank you for the positivity and good vibes. Love from Spain!
Awesome thank you! im so grateful for the kind words friend
I really love your reactions ❤️ they are genuine.
Much love friend
I love how much love you always give Kai. He's amazing and I love Jukka N too but I feel like everyone is always like 'kai is good but we love Jukka more' and I'm just happy he's getting some love too.
Magnificent song this. Floor is just out of this world.
for some reason Kai just hit, especially when listening to Wintersun
man, I really love the tone during the guitar solo.
Its soooo good
Nice reaction dude. I got a couple of songs to recommend from the band called Shadow of Intent like "The prelude to bereavement", "the horror within", "malediction", "From Ruin... We Rise" and "the migrant"
Empuu playes his signature EV-1 wich is based off of the ESP Horizon And Marco playes his Warwick Vampyre 4 string bass.
This have to be my favourite Floor version of an early Tarja era song, everything in this live is just amazingly well performed and in harmony to rival the original (imho, usually Floor starts to rival/dominate over the originals starting from the next album 'Once' and onwards)
I'd never noticed that possible tearing up of Marko, it kinda does look a bit like he is tearing up there, and continues to seemingly wipe that cheek a couple of times. If he was, who could blame him, I'm kinda surprised Tuomas can perform this song without tearing up
This one resonates deeply with me, and the feeling that I'll leave absolutely no legacy behind. Existential dread ftw?
I am a firm believer that your legacy is the memory of you in the people who know you.🙂
My favorite Nightwish song, sooo beautiful and touching❣️
If only my heart had a home…… 🥹
And Floor’s stage presence is so subtle and mega powerful! ❤
It’s Tuomas’ message he wanted to leave to the world whenever
Absolutely agree!
I usually never comment on reaction channels but i really like you. I want to suggest a nightwish song called pharao sails to Orion, album version. Its my personal favorite from nightwish and probably one of the most unique songs ive ever heard.
I actually have that in the chamber to do. Thanks for sayin hi though dude. Much love to you!
I love this song. Great reaction, thank you for doing this! Greetings from the Netherlands
One of the most deeply personal songs Tuomas has written, I thought it would be the type of song to kinda fade out of view once Tarja was gone, but the Decades tour brought so many older tracks like this to a brand new refresh thanks to Floor's incredible abilities as a storyteller 💜
Also, you mentioning "who says Kai doesn't show emotion!" I figured I'd mention some backstory that yes, a lot of fans did view him as a bit "robotic" once he took over for Jukka.
Superb and tears "drawer"
Always makes me cry 😊. Now it is maybe a good time to check out two emotional ballads with Simone. 1st Apocalyptica feat Simone Simons " Rise again" live and 2nd Epica feat Apocalyptica "Rivers" live AFAG. ❤😊
I concur Bob, these are great songs
oh and i forgot. I got a few songs I recommend for future reactions. AT THE GATES - To Drink From The Night Itself and Avatar - Smells Like a Freakshow.

Just thinking "uhhmm..." reading the Title, that will be hard boy..
But love the song..❤🔥
There is an awasome cover of Ghost love score from Yannis Papadoupolus (Beast in Black singer)in YT. Highly rrcommended!!
I got that one coming, I cant wait to hear it!
I concur
No No No, This song can ONLY be Tarja and Floor.
This song is Nightwish. This song is Tuomas Holopainen.

I don't think it has been mentioned so far, but he has slightly modified two apt quotes from Shakespeare in this:
Sonnet 71 - synopsis: the poet [poet = Tuomas pseudonym] addresses his own death and its effect on the beloved, he here urges the beloved to forget him once he is gone, the line in full: "Nay, if you read this line, remember not the hand that writ it".
Sonnet 72 - synopsis: this sonnet explains that the beloved can defend loving the poet only by speaking falsely, by giving the poet more credit than he deserves. The beloved is urged instead to forget the poet once he is dead; the line in full: "And live no more to shame nor me nor you."
I think you can safely assume that Tuomas is extremely well read.
To quote another respected and competent reactor: "The last two minutes of this song deserves to be in a museum."
So now you know why I keep mentioning this one, and why it's in my top 4.
Also you may be starting to see why this is my favourite concert, above Wacken.
Here are notes and also comments from the band:
Tuomas:

Added! Thanks homie
